Jay Halstead usually had the typical day, going to work at the district on a case and rarely undercover, and then going home. But this one familiar undercover duty was one he wasn't expecting. Voight had ordered Halstead to go undercover so they could see what a suspect that they were looking at was doing. He had been doing the normal things they usually did. But by the 5th day, he never expected to get caught. They had figured out he was a cop; and the prick decided to kidnap Jay. He had been sitting on his couch because he was watching the hockey game. He didn't hear his door opening because he was more focused on the TV. He was still undercover as well but he wasn't needed at the time. He had felt something hit the back of his head, he then fell to the floor landing directly on the corner of the coffee table with his head. He then fell unconscious and his limp body was then thrown over one of the prick's shoulders and was carried away. That next morning, Voight had noticed there was no sign of Halstead. "Upton, where's Halstead?" he asked. "I don't know Sarge, I tried to call him but got no answer." she then said. "Ruzek, get a ping on Halstead's phone." he said. "Sarge, his phone's pinging at his apartment still." Ruzek said, flipping the screen to show Voight and the others. "Upton, Atwater. Go check it out and get him." Voight said.

Upton POV: Me and Atwater reached Jay's apartment, his door was busted open. We both then pulled out our guns to start searching. I took the bedroom and bathroom and Atwater took the living room and kitchen. I found nothing in the bedroom and bathroom so I went back out and searched the living room more. And that's when I found the blood stain on the corner of the couch. "Kev, there's blood." I said, with a tremor in my voice. I then kneeled down below the couch and found Jay's badge underneath it. "He's gone." I said. Me and Atwater then waited outside of Jay's apartment til the others showed. Voight and the others then showed and I showed them on what I found on the edge of the couch. "We need to look at the cams outside this apartment between last night and this morning." Voight announced. "Upton, Rojas try to find witnesses, Atwater and Ruzek see what can be found from the Cams." he then said. I then went with Rojas to find witnesses. I eventually found a witness that said he heard noise coming from Jay's apartment. "Sarge, I found a witness that is in the unit below Jay's and he said he heard noise coming from Jay's apartment around 9 pm last night, but that is all he heard." I said, going towards my desk. "There was a van outside Halstead's apartment around 930 last night and it was there for about 30 minutes until one of the perps had a body over his shoulder and it was Halstead." Ruzek said. "Did you ever get a plate?" I asked. "No, the plate was taken off." Ruzek said.

No One's POV: "Ok, Jay is missing; we are keeping this IN house and off the books." Voight announced. They all then went to work. "Hey Sarge, I think Jay is possibly kidnapped because of the perp we were looking at." Ruzek said. "What makes you think that?" Voight asked. "Well, one of the perps was identified as one of Santiago's runners on the cams inside and the other one is not in the system." Ruzek said. "Show me a picture of this runner of Santiago." Voight said. "Meet Jose Marcos, long list of charges did 10 years in Statesville for assault and battery, has a few misdemeanors." Ruzek said, placing a picture on the board. "So this man KNOWS where Jay is. Find this prick and bring him in." Voight said. "Sarge got an address, on a street in Englewood." Rojas said. "Hit it." he said. They all then pulled up to the house and busted the door open and started searching, they never found no sign of Jose at all. They then had to dig more into where they possibly thought where Jay was. It was the next day, 12 hours since Jay went missing. "Sarge, that blue van that was outside Jay's apartment the day he was kidnapped was caught on surveillance just 2 hours ago." Burgess said, walking into the room. They had one start, but now to figure out where the blue van went.

Jay's POV: All I remembered from last night was that I was watching the hockey game, but never remembered after that. When I woke up, the floor was hard, something was placed on my face hard which made me fall back and then I was unable to breathe. I then was able to spit out what was in my mouth and then it started making me cough. My vision was blurry, I didn't know where I was and my head hurt a lot, and I mean A LOT. I heard voices a lot but I hardly understood them because I was out of it. Little did I know that this building I was in was going to be caught on fire. Everything then started to get darker and blurry until I succumbed to the darkness. My hands still bolted to a wall and me being stabbed and not feeling it because the perp did it a while back. I was out of it, I didn't know where I was.

NO ONES POV: The building was then set on fire. Matt Casey and the rest of 51 were having a somewhat quiet day. They never knew what they were getting into. The alarms then went off "Industrial Fire, 2454 Industrial Road." they all then got in their normal vehicles and sped off. When the trucks halted to a stop, the fire was blazing. "81, search the first and 2nd floor, Squad search the 3rd and 4th." Boden said into his radio. "10-4 Chief." Severide and Casey radioed back. Halstead was on the 2nd floor, but was now stuck under wood. Casey was with Mouch and Kidd and Severide was with Cruz and Capp. Kidd was the first one to reach the pile of wood. "Casey, I got someone here." she said. Her and Casey then started digging and then Casey automatically knew who it was. "Oh my god, it's Jay Halstead." he said. "WHAT?" Mouch said from behind. "Yeah, it's him." Casey said. "He's barely breathing, pulse is irregular." Kidd said. "We have to hurry because he's got 3-4 stab wounds." Casey said. "Severide, we need help on the 2nd floor." Casey said into his radio. "Alright we're coming." he said back. Severide then reached where Casey was 5 minutes later and Casey said, "Sev, it's Jay Halstead." What?" Severide said. Casey then shook his head yes. "Hey lieutenant, he's bolted onto the wall." Cruz said. "Tony, bring in the bolt cutters, 2nd floor." Severide crackled into his radio. Tony then radioed back "10-4, I'm coming." The cutters then were brought and Severide broke the bolts off Jay's hands and then he and Cruz then carried Halstead out. "Chief, someone needs to call Voight." Casey said, walking up to Boden. "Why?" He then asked. "We just found Jay Halstead in that fire, and who knows what he was doing in there." Casey replied. "Is he alright?" he said. "His breathing's shallow and pulse is irregular and he's got 3-4 stab wounds." Casey said. Boden hated this part, calling Voight and telling him that they found one of his own.

He then pulled his phone out and dialed Voight's number. Meanwhile Voight and the others were briefing to see if they could find out where Jay was. His phone then vibrated in his pocket and noticed the familiar number and then answered it and went into his office. "Go for Voight." he answered. "Hank, this is Wallace; 51 just responded to an industrial fire and we found Jay in the fire. He's alive, but unconscious, he's on his way to Med right now as we speak but I figured I would call and tell you." Boden answered. "We've been looking for Halstead; because he's been missing for almost 48 hours now." he said. "He was kidnapped?" Boden questioned. "Yeah, from his own apartment and we've been trying to find the prick that took him." he said. "Thank you for telling me that you found him Wallace." he said. "No problem Hank." Boden said. They then hung up and Boden told Casey and Severide, and Voight walked out of his office and said, "That was Wallace Boden, his firehouse just found Jay." "But how?" Ruzek asked. "They responded to a fire, they found Jay unconscious and alive but pulse was irregular and breathing shallow, he did also suffer stab wounds." Voight said. "Is he at Med?" Upton piped. "When I was talking he said as we speak, but he's probably there now; but we still have a part in this; trying to find Santiago's runner." Voight said. "Upton, Atwater, go to Med and get an update on Halstead, the rest of us will stay here." he then said. They then went their separate ways and got to work. Upton and Atwater and then reached Med 5 minutes later.

Maggie then saw them walk in. "Floor 3." she said and Upton acknowledged that and then walked to the elevator with Atwater. They then waited in the familiar waiting room that they both knew and waited until Marcel came out. After about 2 hours; he then came out of the OR and noticed the 2 familiar faces waiting. "Detectives." he said. "How is he?" Atwater said. "Jay's injuries were critical, the stab wounds punctured one of his kidneys and he's got a couple broken ribs from what looks like a beating." Marcel said. "That was probably because he was kidnapped from his own apartment just 48 hours ago." Upton said. "And you've been trying to find him?" He said. "Yes, we just found out from 51 because they were the ones that found him in a fire." Atwater said. "He also had mild smoke inhalation; his SATS when he came in were 85, but which intubated." he said. "When can we see him?" Atwater said. "You can see him in 30 minutes when we get him settled into an ICU room." Marcel replied. They then thanked him for all he did and then sat back down and waited another 30 minutes until they could go and see him. After 30 minutes, a nurse then came out and got them and led them to Jay's room. When they walked in; the tube was in his mouth and his face was bruised. He had all the familiar machines that they both knew. They couldn't stay long because Voight expected them back, but Upton knew she would be back later. They then left and got back to work at the district. After about 2 days; they finally caught Santiago and his runner that kidnapped Jay. His condition changed; he had developed an infection which was not severe. Upton was back and forth because they were getting case after case. She would usually go with the others to Molly's or some other bar and she really needed a stress reliever from going from working to straight to the hospital. It had been almost a week since he was found, the tube was taken out and he was breathing normally. It had been 2 weeks, getting close to the 3 week mark, Halstead was being stubborn but he was slowly getting back to normal but he had to fight off the new infection that occurred prior. It had been 3 weeks, Jay was slowly getting closer to waking up; Upton had still been back and forth.

Voight then gave them all time off because they all looked like they needed it. Upton was at the hospital, browsing through her phone and almost ready to fall asleep. She was still awake when Jay finally woke up after 3 weeks. She had woken up enough to hear Jay slowly waking up. "Jay, take it easy there." she said, standing up the slightest bit. He then noticed the bags under her eyes and he then knew she was tired. "Hailey, you know you could sleep right? I'm not going anywhere." he said. "I know, but I was worried." she said, yawning. Jay then thought, should he let Hailey on the bed or let her sleep in the chair? He had to do something, so he did. "Hailey, do you want to get up here?" he asked. "No, I'm fine." she said. "No you're not fine, you don't look comfortable, now get up here." he said. "You sure?" she hesitated. "Yes, I'm sure now get up here now." he said. She then took off her shoes and then got in the bed and automatically embraced Jay's warmth, she needed this, she missed it. She then fell asleep immediately and Jay placed his arm around her. They both then were asleep for a couple hours. Fast forward another day or two, Jay was finally released from the hospital. He then went home with Upton and he then went into his bedroom and went to sleep because he needed sleep. Upton then left because she needed to get home. After a couple days rest, Jay was finally able to go into work again.
