Yang Xiao Long was surprised when she woke up. For one thing, she was very well rested. For another, the sun was up at its highest point. And of course, the plaza which she was sleeping in was totally bereft of any potential students.

Scratching her eyes, with a deep, lion-like yawn, she looked around. There was still the very faint smell of noodle soup in the air, but not much else. An empty table where it looked like the breakfast food would have been served was now totally empty, completely packed up. There were few sleeping bags left unfurled on the hard ground, as well as some leftover cutlery and what appeared to be metal scrapings. No doubt from people sharpening their weapons before Initiation.

"Holy crap," Yang gasped, eyes wide. Still in her pajamas, she threw her covers off of her, grabbing her weapons and sliding them on her wrists, making a break for the cliff where Initiation was set to take place. All the while, she was scolding herself, yelling expletives at the top of her lungs.

She was missing Initiation! And by the looks of things, it had started quite a while ago. Tears welled up in her eyes, but she quickly rubbed the away and forced down those horrid emotions. How could she have slept through the start of the most important day of her life! It was over for her. No Beacon Academy, no huntress training, no finding her mother and no worldwide adventuring. Her life, for all intents and purposes, was over. All because she was unable to set a damn alarm clock.

Then fate struck again.

Suddenly, Yang felt herself tripping over a slightly raised slab of ceramic tile. She crashed hard on the ground, leaving her rolling forward, scraping up her arms and legs. Luckily for her, her aura quickly sealed her wounds shut, leaving only the bare aftermath of pain. And there, on her knees, in the middle of Beacon Academy, did she finally start crying.

Her life was over. How could she go home after this? Her family was a huntsman one. Everything about her life revolved around being a huntress. She had absolutely nothing left for her now. Her sobs were loud. No matter how many times she wiped her eyes or nose, more liquid came pouring out.

"A-are you okay?" Came a sweet and friendly voice.

Yang looked up, eyes red with anguish, only to be stared back at by a cute little girl with bright silver eyes.

"Huh?" Yang said with a snotty nose.

"You look really sad. Maybe I could help? Do you need a hug?" Came her child-like voice filled with too much compassion for a no-good loser like Yang.

"No, I'm okay," Yang sniffled, wiping at her eyes one last time. Then, she felt tiny arms wrap around her, engulfing her in a warm hug. Feeling the little girl gently pat her back, Yang broke down again, crying into the girl's shoulder, soaking through her shirt with her tears.

After a few minutes of quiet sobbing, Yang broke away from the hug, having felt like she cried herself out.

"Feeling a little better?" The girl asked.

"Ya, just a little." Yang smiled with a last sniffle. "I'm Yang."

"Ruby," Ruby replied. "So, what are you doing out here?"

"Well, you know… Failing at the dream I had wanted since I was younger than you."

"Hey! I'm not that much younger," Ruby squeaked in adorable anger, bringing a small chuckle out of Yang.

"Well, it's not like you'll be seeing that much more of men anyways. I've already failed Initiation. What are you doing out here?"

With that question, Ruby seemed to withdraw into herself. "Well," she mumbled slowly. "I'm part of Initiation."

"I… don't think I understand."

"I'm the civilian everyone was supposed to find. But, I was alone in the forest and I got scared. So I snuck out and hid in the gardens until it's over."

"So what you're saying-"

"I'm so scared and I don't want to go back! But if I don't everyone is going to fail, and it will all be all my fault!" Now it was Yang's turn to comfort a crying Ruby, who buried herself in Yang's chest.

Yang whispered sweet coos into the girl's ear, hoping to relax her and calm her down. After some time, Ruby's own crying stopped and was replaced with a muffled voice.

"What was that Rubes?"

"They're too big."

"Wha- Hey!" Yang said, covering her chest with her arms. "That's very rude!"

"Thanks Yang. That helped. A little."

"No problem."

The two sat in silence for a moment, each of them collecting their thoughts about what was going to happen next. Then, to Yang, it looked like Ruby had an idea.

"Hey Yang? I may have an idea that gets both of us what we want. You get to go to Beacon and I won't get in trouble for running away from the forest."

"What do you have in mind?"

"Well, during Initiation, when I'm caught, I'm supposed to hand out these pins here. See?" Ruby showed Yang a pin. "And Initiation is only completed when you can come back with one."

"I think I see where this is going…"

Headmaster Ozpin stood nearly alone on the main stage, surrounded by the student hopefuls who had failed to join that year, as well as parents, staff members, other teachers and even news reporters. This was always a very big time of year.

"This was a unique Initiation. Some may say it was… the hardest one ever recorded in the school's long history. So, none of you should feel bad that you have failed it. Please, know that you may all try again next year, as long as you have your admission's letter. I hope that you all try again next year." Ozpin sighed. He wasn't even in the mood for coffee. Not after this horrid attempt at an Initiation.

"And without further ado, let me present the students… erm, I mean student class this year. Yang Xiao Long of team… Yang-Gang."

Ozpin bowed his head in frustration. Both at having to read that name, as well as knowing what was about to come next. "And that is all. Please wish our huntsman-in-training students of this year."

The room, of course, was met with absolute and utter silence.

Wow, I bet none of you expected that turn of events. I know what you're all going to say. What about Weiss, and Blake and Ilia! And what about Nora and Pyrrha? They were all in it and now they just aren't what's going on? Well, to that, I only have two words for you...

APRIL FOOLS!

Who expected that? Well, it is the right day. So, ha! I hope you all enjoyed this extra chapter. And don't worry, in a few days I will relabel it as an April Fools Day chapter so you guys all know in the future to skip over it (or not skip it) if you decide to read this again. Anyways, I hope you are all having a great day! Stay tuned for the next (actual) chapter of Goodrose!

PS. This chapter is a joke, and is not canon to the story. Just making sure everyone is 100% aware.
