Finn stood up, eyes locked on the piercing red lights in the darkness. He palmed the hilt of his sword and gripped it tightly, alerting Fionna to look in the same direction.

"We're not alone in here." Finn breathed silently.

From the back of the cave he could hear a low rumbling that seemed to shake the ground. A guttural growl of danger that raised the hairs on Finn's neck. What was this feeling he was getting? Fear?

No.

This was desperation.

Everything in his instincts was telling him to run. He looked up at the hole that he and Fionna had fallen in from and squinted. The entrance was far off. So much so that the sunlight he knew that was gracing the fields was completely hidden away. It'd be impossible to climb that height while running from a monster. Behind him, he noticed the darkness stretched far down the corridor. The sticky cool air was moving, meaning the corridor was long. If he was to escape, he'd have to run as fast as he can.

"Fionna. We have to go." Finn whispered, "I'm getting bad vibes off of this place."

Behind him, Finn hears Fionna gasp for air as she grasps his shoulder.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?" Finn asked, turning to her.

"I can't stand up, I think my leg's broken!"

The options that had flooded his mind seemed to vanish in that instant. They couldn't run. They had to fight. He looked back at the glowing red eyes, and heard an immense pounding that seemed to penetrate his head. Footsteps. Giant footsteps.

"Well, well, well, look who fell down the rabbit hole." said the grisly voice, "Come boy. Gaze upon death while you have the chance."

From the shadows crept an immense figure. Outlined by bones and robed with blackness. His hand was immense, grasping the side of the wall and covering it, leaving splits in the rock on impact. Finn's eyes couldn't seem to adjust to make out the entirety of the being. As he tried to focus on any feature, the figure seemed to blur and dissipate.

"You must be quite unlucky to have stumbled upon my humble abode. Or rather, maybe your luck's just run out hmm?"

The figure cackled, leaving shivers down Finn's spine. In his entire life, he's never felt so afraid of something. Especially something he couldn't see or understand. It was as if his body was being crushed under the weight of the being's presence. The eyes dropped down, closer to Finn's face, and examined him closer.

"Oh? You are… Finn, the human boy! Aren't you a little ways off from your world? Last I checked you couldn't quite transcend the dimensions could you?" the figure laughed. "Oh but such a treat, you are exactly what I've been looking for! Someone with your prowess and spirit could make a good addition for me. Then maybe I can finally beat that wretched being that keeps me down here."

The giant hand reached out, and the blackness that surrounded it inched closer to Finn's face until he could smell the stench of plague on it's fingers.

"Let me draw up a curse for you boy."

Suddenly, a jolt of black lightning burst from the being's palms, slamming into Finn's eyes. He saw his own death, countless times in countless ways. All playing at the same time. In each one, his screams can be heard emanating through his head. Pounding and making his eardrums burst.

"You will die for me boy. And finally I'll have the power to destroy this wretched place, including the one that created it."

With another blast, the pain in Finn's eyes dissipated. Finn fell to the ground, clutching at his eyes to force himself to blink. As he looked down, he readjusted to the darkness and saw the floor of the cave. The red eyes were gone.

"Finn… Finn!.. FINN!" Fionna screamed.

Finn looked back over at Fionna, who was still struggling to stand on her feet.

"What's gotten into you? You said we had to run and then started screaming! And I don't see anything in here with us. It's just an empty room!"

She was right. As Finn reexamined the room he was in, the place was completely empty.

"Please, can you help me up? I really think I broke my leg from that fall. And we need to find a way out of here…" Fionna said.

"Right, here, get on my back" Finn said as he crouched. He lifted Fionna onto his back with a huff, and began walking down the dark corridor.

"Whatever you do, watch where you're touching okay?"

Finn didn't hear her. The entire experience felt so real. It couldn't have been his imagination. And the pain was too great to be fake. Whatever he just met was nothing he had seen or faced before. Finn had a horrible feeling that what he just met with might have been the worse thing for anyone to meet.

"Fionna… I think I need your help." Finn said, turning his head to her.

"What's up? You're the one carrying me after all." She replied.

"Fionna… do you believe in Death?"
