Hey everybird! What's up!?
So sorry for the wait, I would have had this yesterday, but well… The night before yesterday I barely got any sleep and I was exhausted throughout the day.
But anyway… This idea comes from JAQUI THE SPIX MACAW. And also regarding the last idea from you JAQUI, yeah… It's clear you need to catch up on the actual trilogy, which is important to do and that goes for everyone. You do need to be aware of all the events in the trilogy.
And lastly, a quick thank you to RIO2Lover100 for the fav and follow! And now onto the story!
Feeling and Trust
A few weeks have passed since Blu and Jewel have escaped from the plane and freed everyone as well as Blu saving Jewel just in time before she could hit the ocean. And now with Jewel's wing fully healed from the cage landing on it and breaking it, she was finally free from the cast, able to feel the feathers on her once injured wing again.
"Okay Jewel, your wing has fully healed back, but you should still be careful for a couple more weeks just in case." Tulio informed the female after he finished removing the cast, Jewel flapping her healed wing as she had a huge smile on her face.
"I'm so glad you're all better Jewel, I was worried all the time that you wouldn't." Linda coming froward and rubbed faces with her macaw as Blu, who was also there, cringed slightly at the scene, still trying to get used to having humans as friends.
"Well now that your wing is healed, we better start teaching you how to fly." Blu told Jewel as Jewel gave a fearful face, even after everything the two have been through, learning how to fly was the most scary thing for Jewel.
"Woah, slow down there Blu, my wing just got healed and Tulio said not to push it." Jewel trying to avoid learning.
"Oh come on Jewel, there's no better time than now." Blu trying to convince the female.
"Just give me a couple of days to adjust." Jewel pleaded with Blu.
"Fine… But don't think I'll forget." Blu snapped back.
Day turned into night and the two new lovebirds were settled into their birdhouses, just outside the small house Linda and Tulio had at the edge of the rainforest. Blu and Jewel all set to sleep for the night as Jewel laid down while Blu was staring up into the sky, at the moon and stars. Blu was thinking about how to go about teaching Jewel…
"Blu, come on, we got to sleep if we're going to do things tomorrow." Jewel called Blu over.
"You go ahead, I'll be there soon." Blu replied as Jewel just let Blu do so as she went ahead and closed her eyes, falling to sleep as Blu eventually turned around to see Jewel's sleeping form.
Blu knew teaching Jewel how to fly was going to be tricky. He wasn't much of a teacher to begin with, added to the fact that normally birds learn to fly when they're just tiny chicks and most of the time it would be the mother who would do so. To teach a grown up macaw to fly how and from a male was extremely unheard, but yet again… The Blue macaws were extremely rare as well. Blu sighed as he knew he had a heavy weight on him, but he knew it was important to teach Jewel this lesson.
The couple of days passed by soon enough, with Jewel mostly staying inside for her wing to heal fully, which, except for occasional stings of small pain to remind her that her wing was once broken, everything was fine. As morning came once again over the coastal city of Rio de Janeiro, with Jewel just waking up, Blu came flying in from somewhere, carrying the two's breakfast.
"Good morning, slept well?" Blu asked.
"I did and I see you got breakfast in bed." Jewel smiled as Blu gave her half of what he got as Jewel ate it. "delicious." Jewel commented.
"I'm glad you like it, because after we finish eating, we got a lot of work to do." Blu told Jewel.
"What are you talking about?" Jewel replied, confused.
"Flying, remember?" Blu reminded Jewel.
"Oh right…" Jewel gulped as her fears once more returned.
"Hey, it's going to be alright, I'll teach you step by step and if you fall, I'll catch you, promise." Blu reassured Jewel.
"Okay… If you say so…" Jewel still super nervous about this as the two finished up their morning meal.
And so the lessons began as the two were now outside their birdhouse, on the small platform attached to the front of the house as Jewel, shakily, looked down over the edge. It wasn't a long fall down, but still very scary for a bird who doesn't fly…
"Okay, lets get started." Blu said as he began to instruct Jewel. "First, lets see if you can get a few inches off the ground for a couple of seconds, for this, all you have to do is flap your wings, not too slowly, but not too fast."
"Okay…" Jewel sighed as she did as she was told, beginning to move her wings up and down, eventually generating enough power to lift herself off the platform, but well a second later, she froze for some reason and fell face first against the wood surface, Blu helping her up.
"Okay… That was a good start…" Blu trying his hardest to stay positive as he knew this was going to be a long day. "Lets keep going at it and we can improve." Blu urging Jewel on as he helped pick her back up.
"Whatever you say teacher." Jewel returned as she retried the exercise, getting just a tiny bit better, but it was hardly progress in the right direction.
As the day was starting to near its end, Jewel wasn't anywhere close to even thinking about going off the edge of the platform and trying for a short flight as she was exhausted, her wings sore from all the exercises Blu put her through. Blu was patient with Jewel and tried his hardest not to be upset, after all he knew this was going to be hard and getting it in one day was too much to ask for. Still, if this was the progress they were making, this was going to take a very long time… Blu needed help and he knew exactly who to ask.
"Alright, I think that's enough for one day Jewel…" Blu told the female as Jewel was all out of breath, panting and catching some much needed fresh air into her lungs.
"Finally, I feel like my wings are about to fall off…" Jewel replied. "Sorry I couldn't do much…"
"That's okay, we'll try again." Blu told her as the two went and enjoyed their last meal of the day before going back to sleep. "Hopefully next time is better." Blu said inside his head as he closed his eyes and went to sleep.
Early morning came and Blu woke up as the sun was barely showing over the horizon, the first rays of sunlight shining over the city as Blu looked to see Jewel still sound asleep, not ready at all to wake up just yet, which was good. Blu wanted to go see one of his new friends, Rafael and seek his advise, after all the toucan had tried to help the two fly together when Blu and Jewel were chained to each other, maybe he could do so now. There was also another reason Blu wanted to go see Rafael as soon as possible as he flew to where the toucan lived…
"I hope those little monsters aren't up yet…" Blu commented as he was close to where his new friend lived, being careful to keep a 360 degree look out as he arrived at the tree hollow the toucan lived as Blu looked inside to see Rafael sleeping… As well as his mate and his eighteen kids… "Rafael… Rafael wake up…" Blu softly called so as not to try and wake up everyone.
"Too early Eva… Five more minutes…" Rafael sleepily replied as he wasn't quite paying attention to the sound of the voice.
"Rafael!" Blu loudly whispered, risking to wake up everyone, but only Rafael woke up to Blu's relief, getting up and rubbing his wings, turning to see Blu, who was a little bit of a blur at first as Rafael focused.
"Blu?" Rafael said back. "I guess you're one of those early birds…" Rafael replied as he stretched and carefully walked around his mate and his many kids.
"Sorry, but I needed to talk to you and also I wanted to avoid your kids." Blu informed his friend.
"Don't worry, it's still a couple hours until the chaos starts here." Rafael told Blu. "But anyway, what's on your mind?"
"It's Jewel, I started teaching her how to fly, but well… It's not going so good." Blu tried to put it as lightly as possible.
"Oh Blu, you must be overthinking it…" Rafael guessing that his friend was trying to take it too literally. "Like I first told you guys, flying comes from here, not from here." Rafael putting his wing to his heart first, then his head second. "It's a feeling, Jewel has it just like any other bird, you just have to help make her realize that."
"I guess that's as good an answer as I can get." Blu thinking about Rafael's advice. "Thanks."
"You're welcome." Rafael smiled before turning serious. "Now you better go, my kids are sleeping, but our talking might have woke up some of them, better go before they get started." Rafael warned his friend as Blu heeded it and took off back for the birdhouse.
Blu entered inside the wooden structure, Jewel was still sleeping as Blu settled on down next to her, staying there until Jewel woke up, once more stretching out her wings as she saw Blu was up.
"Oh Blu, you're awake." Jewel noted.
"Yeah, for awhile now, but I didn't want to wake you." Blu replied. "So, ready for another round of lessons?"
"After yesterday… not so sure about that Blu…" Jewel returned.
"Today will be different, I promise." Blu smiled as the two enjoyed a good breakfast to get their energy for the day, Jewel really needing it as she felt just as nervous and worried as yesterday.
Once again the two were on the wooden platform in front of the birdhouse, ready for today's lessons, well to Blu it really wasn't going to be lessons…
"Okay Jewel, now I want you to close your eyes and fly to there." Blu pointed out one of the window ledges of the house next door, which was only a few yards away, but it might as well be a few miles for Jewel…
"Whatever happened to taking it step by step?" Jewel very much surprised by what Blu told her to do, thinking he was crazy.
"It's what Rafael told us, flying happens in here, not in here." Blu touching his heart then head. "You just got to imagine yourself being free through the air, feel the wind through your feathers."
"Alright… I'll give it a try…" Jewel replied as she took a deep breath and closed her eyes, spreading out her wings and ready to launch herself off.
"Remember, I'm right here and watching over you." Blu held onto Jewel's wing tightly to let her know he was right there if something should happen.
"Okay…" Jewel said softly as she ran froward until she no longer felt surface under her, keeping her eyes closed until she felt ready to open them up again and to her great surprise…
She was flying… She wasn't falling down to the ground, she was up, keeping her current attitude as the window of the house next door came closer and closer. Jewel couldn't believe it as she slowly turned her head from side to side to see her gently flapping wings keeping her up. Jewel enjoyed her second of triumph as she held out her talons, ready to come in for the landing as she touched down onto the window ledge. Jewel couldn't get any words out at first as she was super excited, the adrenaline pumping through her body as she turned around to see Blu still standing on the wooden platform, still there keeping watch.
And what's more… Jewel flew right back to Blu, this time with her eyes wide open to see her whole trip of just a few seconds. And when she got back, she gave Blu the biggest hug she could to show how happy she was that she did it.
"Thank you Blu." Jewel told him as she looked at him with her eyes.
"I barely did anything, it was all you and I knew you could do it." Blu smiled as he then gave Jewel a loving kiss. "Now, how about we try to go for a longer distance?"
"Sure thing." Jewel replied as the two continued on.
And so after much practice and endurance, after just a couple of weeks Jewel became a natural at flying, keeping pace with Blu as Jewel grew more confident as well. Their friends as well as Linda were also quite surprised and happy that Jewel could finally fly, having achieved that impossible goal and all it took was to feel it and trust in her one and only.
And there we go! Hope you enjoyed this time!
I'm looking froward to more ideas you all have and with that…
See everybird later!
