Hey everybird! What's up!?

So I decided to expand the series to also include the time before the first story and after the third story in the trilogy and well rewatching the first Rio, it gave me some ideas for the series!

So lets get moving onto the next one!

Memory Lane

It was a wonderful day in Rio de Janeiro, sunny and bright as a new shop was opening up in the city, a small bookshop with the walls painted a bright blue as in front of the shop a picture was being taken to commemorate the moment…

"You sure you don't want me to take the picture Jewel?" Linda asked as her feathery companion was standing on a stack of crates, with the camera.

"I got it." Jewel replied back, of course it came out as squawks to Linda, but she understood owning to Jewel's facial expression as Linda got ready while Tulio and Fernando were also there, Fernando holding up a sign that said "Open".

"Dad, why are we here again?" Carlos asked, rolling his eyes. "I much rather be in Uncle Nico and Pedro's club…"

"Oh come on, aren't you excited to go in once Grandma Linda unlocks the door?" Brandon smiled, clearly happy to go inside already.

"Of course you would say that bro…" Tia sighed at her brother's behavior.

"In fact you know I bet you would be happy to live there…" Carlos added. "Yet again if you did, we would have more room back home…"

"No one's moving or going anywhere, we're here to support your mother and Linda, this is important for them." Blu told his kids as Linda, Tulo, and Fernando finished posing for the photo op, with Jewel snapping off a few pictures to remember the moment.

Once that was done, it was time for the first day of opening as Linda, with the key, unlocked the door, finally opening the Livraria Jewel bookshop. Tulio and Fernando went in first, quickly followed by Brandon, who hurried on inside to help with final organizations. Meanwhile Carlos and Tia, under the eyes of their father went in next, complaining under their breath as Linda and Jewel have yet to come inside.

"You coming honey?" Tulio asked, noticing Linda was still standing outside, with Jewel now on her shoulder.

"You go ahead, I'll be there." Linda returned as Tulio nodded his head before going back in. "Can't believe we still opened a bookshop here in Rio Jewel, never thought I would do that." Linda then chuckled a little. "Remember when we first opened the shop in Minnesota?" Linda turning her head to look at Jewel, Jewel with a nervous smile on her face as she did remember that time when the two were younger and well less experienced with this…

Years ago in Moose Lake, Minnesota…

"Mom, come on, hurry up and finish taking the pictures, Jewel and I really want to open up already." Linda pleaded as her mother was holding a camera, taking what seemed like a hundred pictures of the same thing, which was just Linda, with Jewel on her shoulder, in front of the new bookshop in town, which Linda named after her feathery companion.

"Almost done sweetie." Linda's mom replied. "I'm just so happy that you finally own your own business." Linda's mom almost sounded like she was going to cry happy tears.

Linda really couldn't blame her mother for her behavior, after all it was a tough road to open up this business, with many obstacles along the way, but Linda figured it out and with Jewel's help, succeeded in her goal. Eventually Linda's mom put down the camera and Linda and Jewel could finally relax their smiles as Linda took out the key to open up the shop. Linda took a deep breath as she guided the key to the lock, her hand shaking as it wasn't from the cold, but nervousness of the first day.

"Uh oh…" Jewel said in her head as she quickly brushed up against Linda's cheek to provide comfort and reassurance that everything was going to be fine.

"Thank you Jewel, I needed that…" Linda softly replied as she steadied her hand and turned the lock, officially starting the first business day. "Well, this is it, no pressure." Linda trying to stay positive as her mother followed her in.

"Not as big a space as I thought, but cozy nevertheless." Linda's mother replied as the shop, which of course was all set up since yesterday, with new books all organized neatly in their shelves and tables, was all set for customers to come in.

"I just hope everyone in town thinks so." Linda replied as if no one came, than her hard work wouldn't be rewarded.

"You'll get customers sweetie." Linda's mother said as the three ladies heard the door open, with the bell attached to the top of the door sounded, a man coming in.

"Hello, you ladies must be the owners." The man smiled.

"Oh no, not me, just my daughter, today's her first business day and I'm so proud of her." Linda's mom raised her hands and waved them to signify she had nothing to do with this as Linda blushed from embarrassment.

"Mom…" Linda said under her breath.

"Well sweetie, I should get going, good luck." Linda's mom told her daughter as she left, leaving Linda and Jewel to take care of everything.

"You have a great mother." The man commented. "Anyway, I'm just looking to read anything new, doesn't matter what."

"Oh well, I can help you with that." Linda replied as she turned to Jewel. "Jewel, keep a lookout for anymore customers and help them if you can." Linda requested as Jewel gave back a "Yes".

Linda helped out the man finding something new to read as the two returned to the front desk, where the man paid for the book, said his goodbyes and left, with Linda putting the money in the empty slot in the cashier, the first real payment of the day.

"Easy so far Jewel." Linda smiled. "We're going to do a great job together." Linda commented as a pair of customers came a few minutes later, searching for their own new books. "You take care of one and I'll take the other." Linda told Jewel as Jewel nodded her head back and once more the customers got what they wanted and money was added to the cashier.

"Yeah, we got this." Jewel said in her head as she was going to regret those words later…

A Few Hours Later…

With the news spreading that there was a new bookshop in town, more and more people came flooding in, more than what Linda and Jewel could manage as the two tried their best to keep things under control. The two however did their best to help out everyone they could, but it was surely tough and difficult as Linda sighed, her young adult mind not sure how much longer she could keep up.

"I never thought it would be this hard Jewel…" Linda told her as she was currently sitting down at the front desk, holding her head with her hands as Jewel patted Linda's arm with her wing, Linda taking a deep breath. "We just got to keep going, everything will be fine and we'll cook up a good dinner tonight to celebrate today after we close up shop." Linda said cheerfully for the both of them.

So the two carried on as the shop was so full now that there we barely any empty floorspace and well since Jewel couldn't fly and had to walk everywhere, she had to resort to going about by using bookshelves and tables, jumping from place to place as she navigated around the crowd.

"Well, least I'm getting some exercise from this…" Jewel noted as the shop was full of activity.

Sooner or later despite Linda and Jewel trying to stay positive, something was going to happen that would make one of them crack… And that something came sooner as some of the customers weren't even searching for a book, rather just chatting along themselves. And some of those chatting customers used a bookshelf to lean against and well eventually enough people were leaning against it for the bookshelf to lift off the ground on one side. And well books started falling off as enough weight was taken off that the shelf became lighter and lighter, until…

"Oh no…" Jewel said slowly as she was currently passing through as people in the way noticed the shelf and hurried out of the way as Linda, at the front desk noticed too, getting up, but it was too late as the shelf fell down onto its side with a loud crashing noise.

"Okay, that's it, I'm closing shop for today, everyone please out." Linda said as politely as she could as people filed out and as soon as the shop was empty, save for Linda and Jewel, Linda, sighing, was against the front door. "I think I need to put up a "Maximum number of people allowed" sign Jewel… Jewel?" Linda asked as she noticed Jewel didn't respond, looking around the shop and that's when she realized where Jewel was probably…

"Jewel!" Linda shouted as she ran to the pile of books that fell down, taking out book after book until Linda spotted the familiar light blue feathers of her companion, and after taking out a few more books, there was Jewel, thankfully unhurt, but still a little shocked at what happened to her. "Thank goodness, I think we had enough for one day, don't you think?" Linda asked as Jewel nodded her head very quickly.

"I could use a good bird bath right about now…" Jewel said.

"Well, lets clean up shop and then we can rest." Linda told Jewel as Linda put up the "Closed" sign on the front door before lifting up the bookshelf that fell and with Jewel's help, put the books back in.

After making sure everything was cleaned up and organized right in the shop, the two, all exhausted, went upstairs to the living space above, eating a nice dinner and settling down for a goodnight's sleep, before they would need to reopen the shop tomorrow, hopeful that it wouldn't be as chaotic as today…

Back to the Present…

"That sure was a day for us…" Linda smiled. "Lets just hope our first day in our new bookshop in Rio goes better and it's a good thing we have more hands and talons to help us." Linda told Jewel as the bookshop's front door opened.

"Hey honey, we need some help organizing here, you ready yet?" Tulio asked.

"Oh… Yeah, coming in." Linda shook her head free from memories to focus on the present. "Ready Jewel?"

"I sure am, if we can handle a small town, we can handle a whole city." Jewel replied as Linda just heard squawks as on Linda's shoulder, the two went ahead inside to begin the life of their new bookshop in Rio.

And I'll end there!

And yes, before you ask, this was inspired by that image from the credits of the first Rio movie!

Hope you enjoyed and with that…

See everybird later!
