Hey everybird! What's up!?
Sorry it's been awhile, been a little exhausted and had some personal problems to deal with! But back and well since Halloween is coming, here's something for the spooky day! But scary stuff is not my thing, so don't destroy me in the comments!
However before we get to the tale, a couple of things…
First, I saw the teaser trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon and let me just say that I'm super excited for it! It looks really great and the fact that it has an Asian kind of setting means I would like it anyway!
And second, a quick thank you to CalvinFujii for another fav!
Now onto today's tale!
The Ghost of Rio
Today was October 31th, Halloween, well in America, in Brazil it was just another normal day as the last known surviving family of Blue macaws were getting ready to head on out to Nico and Pedro's samba club, for a day and night out. And while most everyone doesn't know about Halloween in Brazil, Jewel told Nico and Pedro all about it and the two party going birds decided to make it a special day for their club, with well the best Halloween decorations they could do and spooky music to go along with it. And Jewel and her family were going to go enjoy the fun, well most of them…
"Are you sure you don't want to come along son?" Blu asked his middle child, Brandon.
"I'm sure dad, you know I'm normally not into dancing and music like Carlos." Brandon replied. "I want to just stay here, maybe enjoy a movie or something."
"Alright Brandon, if that's what you want, just remember to make sure all the doors and windows are locked and if there's any trouble, you know where to find us." Jewel reminded her son as Jewel knew Brandon would be careful.
"Don't worry mom, I'll be fine." Brandon returned as both Carlos and Tia were of course impatient.
"Mom, dad, can we go already?" Carlos complained.
"Yeah, Uncle Nico and Pedro aren't going to be waiting for us." Tia added.
"We're coming." Blu called back. "See you later son." Blu told his son before going off.
"Are you absolutely sure you don't want to come son?" Jewel needing one last voice of confirmation.
"I'm sure mom, trust me." Brandon smiled.
"Oh I do." Jewel smiled back and came froward to give her son a hug and kiss on the top of his head. "Well, see you when we get back, hopefully we wouldn't be gone too long." Jewel said as she hurried to join Blu and her other kids.
As the rest of the family was gone, Brandon was alone in the small house Linda and Tulio owned, except Linda and Tulio, along with Fernando were out on another expedition in the Amazon, so Brandon was really alone inside the house. However that didn't bother him as he flew over to the living room, picking a movie from the small collection in a cabinet and put it in the TV, starting to play it as he sat down on the couch.
"So nice and quiet… No Carlos blasting his music and Tia playing pranks." Brandon smiled as he savored the peace.
In fact it was so quiet and peaceful, except for the movie playing that Brandon started to feel a little sleepy and since it was the evening time, with the sun going down, it was getting darker.
"Well…" Brandon yawned. "Some sleep would be nice…" Brandon's eyes blinking slowly several times before they completely closed and the little bird fell asleep on the couch.
It was about an hour or two until Brandon woke up again, but not from his own doing, for there was suddenly a loud thud against one of the windows of the house as Brandon reopened his eyes and the first thing he saw…
"AHHH!" Brandon shouted as he ducked down, burying his face in the couch as he started shaking, slowly turning his head to take another look. "Oh, it's just a tree…" Brandon breathed a sigh of relief as he thought he saw a ghost, but really it was just the shadow from the tree and the loud thud was the tree branch hitting the window from the wind blowing outside.
Brandon, being more interested in science and real facts unlike his brother and sister meant he didn't really believe in such things like ghosts and spirits, however alone in this dark house, on Halloween…
"Get a hold of yourself Brandon, there's no one here except you and the rest of the family will come back before it gets too dark right?" Brandon told himself to feel better as suddenly he heard some creaking sounds from above, in the attic. "Okay… Maybe I'm not alone…" Brandon doubted himself now as he flew upstairs, coming to the hatch leading to the attic.
Slowly opening it, only by an inch to allow him to peek through, at first he saw nothing since there was currently no light in the attic, but Brandon did hear sounds, different sounds this time. As he put his head a little more inside, with his eyes having adjusted to the darkness more, he could faintly make out some moving things inside, but nothing to really be afraid of…
"Nothing to worry about, I knew…" Brandon started, but then stopped as he then felt something land on his head and crawling as that freaked him out. "AHHH!" Brandon once more screamed as he fell down to the floor, the hatch closing behind him, Brandon landed down, feeling more adrenaline of fear than pain currently as he felt his head with his wings, what was there gone now.
"Maybe that was just a spider or another insect…" Brandon realized, as he looked down at his wings, nothing on them, except now they were sweaty. "Just need some water to calm down and think clearly…" Brandon told himself as he made his way downstairs to the kitchen, going to get some water and maybe a little snack as well.
As Brandon flew through the hallways, to downstairs, he passed by a window as the wind outside picked up to be a rainstorm, with now water hitting against the house as well as flashes of lightning streaking through the sky. And that only made Brandon feel more uneasy as suddenly a bolt of lightning came really close to the house, causing a very loud noise which Brandon felt compelled to turn his head towards the closest window… Which was a huge mistake… Because as Brandon turned his head, he swore he saw…
"A ghost!" Brandon shouted as he launched himself right into a closet, the sound of clothes falling following.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Blue macaw family made it back home, having arrived back inside Linda and Tulio's house before the storm got too bad, their feathers damp with rainwater as they shook as much water off themselves.
"Didn't think it would rain tonight." Jewel commented.
"And ruined the night in the end…" Carlos complained as they had to leave the party, which Nico and Pedro ended because of the unexpected weather.
"Hey son, we're back home!" Blu called out for Brandon, but no answer cam back, which was weird. "Son?" Blu confused as he didn't expect Brandon to be one to not listen.
"Maybe he's asleep, everyone split up and find him." Jewel suggested as Blu and Jewel separated while Carlos and Tia went together.
"You know, our brother's the lucky one today, didn't have to get his feathers wet." Tia said as she flew alongside her brother to look for their sibling.
"You said it…" Carlos agreed as the two kids looked for their brother.
As the two went upstairs, they were just about to pass by an open closet, with a pile of clothes having fallen down. And as they passed by, Carlos stopped, which Tia was confused by.
"Something wrong?" Tia asked.
"I thought I saw something move…" Carlos said as he went back and looked into the closet, seeing something move. "What the…" Carlos began, but stopped as suddenly a white mass rose up as once more a flash of lightning lit up the window opposite the closet, the white mass moving towards Carlos and not just moving, but floating off the floor. "It's a ghost!" Carlos screamed as he flew as fast as possible away, Tia also seeing this as she joined her brother in getting away as fast as possible.
The two little birds were so scared and looking behind them every second to see if they were being followed that they didn't see their father in front of them, the two flying straight into him.
"Woah, what's gotten into you two?" Blu asked as Carlos and Tia regained their focus, shaking their heads as they started speaking rapidly at the same time that Blu didn't understand them. "Okay, okay, slow down, one at a time." Blu told his kids.
"Closet…" Carlos got out through pants.
"And then a ghost!" Tia finished.
"A ghost, seriously, like there's such things like…" Blu started, but slowed to a stop as up ahead there was the same floating white mass, having caught up to the three as another flash of lightning lit up, creating a horrible look to the mass coming towards the three. "Right… Run!" Blu shouted as the three, now scared ran or well flew to downstairs, hoping to lose the white mass as they met Jewel, who was still searching downwards for her son.
"Oh, hey you three, did you find Brandon?" Jewel asked, but then noticed their panting state. "What's wrong?"
"There's a ghost in the house Jewel, we have to hide!" Blu was the first to speak.
"A ghost?" Jewel chuckled. "Oh Blu, I thought you didn't like Halloween at first and now you're getting into…" Jewel started, but her eyes caught something as she looked up to see the same white mass the rest of her family saw. "Okay, I stand corrected…" And with that the four retreated to the kitchen, hiding behind the kitchen counter.
"What should we do!?" Tia asked out loud.
"Quiet, you want the ghost to find us?" Carlos whispered loudly at his sister.
"I don't know, but maybe if we wait until the storm is done, the ghost will go away…" Blu thought as he turned to Jewel. "Right Jewel?" Blu asked his mate, who was deep in thought. "Jewel?"
"Something seems familiar here…" Jewel said as she remembered Halloween night back in Minnesota, where both kids and adults would go trick or treating, with some of the kids dressing up like… "Of course…" Jewel realized as she went out of hiding, flying right to the "ghost".
"Wait Jewel, are you crazy!?" Blu whispered as he couldn't stop Jewel as he, along with Carlos and Tia poked their heads in order to see what was happening as Jewel flew right up to the "ghost" and simply uncovered who it really was…
"Right, a "ghost"…" Jewel turned to her mate and her two other kids as the white they saw was really one of Tulio's white shirts and well underneath was Brandon, relieved to finally see his family back home again.
"I'm glad you're all back home, one moment I was enjoying a movie, the next I was stumbling around in the closet." Brandon sighed as he could relax.
"Wait… So it was just our nerdy brother and not a ghost all along!?" Carlos annoyed that he ran from his brother in such a state.
"Not that we were scared or anything… Just…" Tia not able to come up with anything.
"Oh… The look on your faces says differently…" Brandon pointed out as he flew down to his siblings.
"We weren't scared!" Both Carlos and Tia snapped back at the same time with red blushes appearing on their faces as Brandon just chuckled into his wing.
"Okay, that's enough, we all had enough excitement for one day, lets all get some sleep for tomorrow." Blu told his kids as the fear of a real ghost was over and the family went to go get some sleep on the couch.
"A ghost…" Jewel thought and chuckled as she joined her family. "Like one would ever show up for real…" Jewel said to herself.
As Jewel said that, outside, with the storm still blowing, with the rain pouring down and the wind howling, a small mist appeared outside with the wind, forming a sinister looking smile before moving on…
And I'll end it there!
I hope you did enjoy this and yeah… Like I said… I'm not good at writing scary stuff, so if you aren't scared, than I can't blame you.
Either way…
See everybird later!
