Chapter 1: A migrating herd
A long time ago. Before there were countries or citys or states. Before there were horses or bears or elephants. Before the first human ever walked the earth. The world was populated by strange and wonderful creatures.
The greatest of these creatures were called, dinosaurs.
But the realm of the dinosaur was changing. The weather, the plants, and the animals were beginning to transform.
Still, despite the changes happening in the outside world, life in The Great Valley remained the same.
Cera was looking around for a tree to ram. And she found just the one and got ready.
"Gerr! Gerrrr!"
With a mighty run, Cera rammed the tree and caused and knocked all the leafs off. She did a great job. Just as Ducky and Petrie arrived.
"Cera, you are good green food getter. You are." Ducky said to her.
"Let's eat." Cera said as they got to the leaf pile.
But before they could take a bite on any of the leafs, something under them was moving. Scaring them a bit. Until what popped out from under was non other than,
"Spike." They said as they burst into laughing. Just in time for Chomper to show up.
"Hey Cera. Thanks for knocking that buzzer nest down for me." He said as he was eating some buzzers.
"Don't make me laugh." Cera said to him. "But hey. You and Spike are here. But where's Littlefoot and Ruby?"
Littlefoot and Ruby were having a walk up The Great Wall. Just until they've spotted a buzzer on a flower.
"Hello." Littlefoot said to the buzzer. Until it started to fly away.
"Hey! Don't go." Said Ruby.
Littlefoot and Ruby began to follow the buzzer up the mountain. Of course, it stuck its tong out at them and flew through a small cave. And as Littlefoot and Ruby were at the other side, they almost slipped off the ledge but regained control and stepped back.
But, as they were about to turn around, they saw something coming. A herd of Longnecks were walking over to the valley.
"Who are they?" Littlefoot asked.
"Who's who guys?" Cera asked as she and the others walked over.
"Over there." Ruby said as she pointed at the herd down below.
"Hey. They are Longnecks just like you Littlefoot." Said Ducky.
"I wonder where they come from."
Meanwhile, Grandma and Grandpa were washing themselves up at a waterfall. Just as Littlefoot ran by.
"Grandma. Grandpa. A herd of Longnecks are coming into our valley." He said to them.
"Yes. We saw them too Littlefoot." Grandpa said to him. Just as Grandma began to lick his face.
"Grandma, why are you washing my face? It's only going to get dirty again."
"Because we're going to greet our guests Littlefoot. You want to look nice don't you?"
"I guess. But who are they? And where do they come from?"
"They're our cousins Littlefoot." Said Grandpa. "They're a migrating herd."
"Migrating?" Littlefoot asked.
"It means they travel and live in different places." Grandpa explained.
"You mean instead of living in only one place like us." Littlefoot asked again.
"That's right."
"I wouldn't like that. I like living in The Great Valley."
"Yes. We do to Littlefoot. Now come. Let's go welcome our guests."
"Hey, you think they have kids?" Littlefoot asked again.
"I'm sure they do." Grandpa answered. Just as he ended up leaning himself on a rock.
"Grandpa." Littlefoot exclaimed.
"Strange." Said Grandpa. "I soddenly felt so tired."
"Perhaps we better stay here." Grandma suggested.
"Nonsense. I feel better already. Littlefoot, why don't you lead the way."
"Okay." He said as he ran up ahead.
"I'm fine Grandma. Really." Grandpa said to her. But somehow, he knew that something was not right about him.
Soon, everyone in The Great Valley, both Leaf-eater and Sharptooth, met with the herd of Longnecks as they entered.
"Welcome to our valley Old One." Grandma said to the leader.
"Yes. Now tell me. How is your climate?"
"Our climate? It's fine." Grandma answered.
"Even with all those Sharpteeth?" The Old One asked again.
"They're part of a race of Sharpteeth that forbid themselves from eater other dinosaurs." Said Grandpa.
"I see. And you're land. Has it changed?"
"Why no it hasn't." Grandpa said again.
"Good." Said the Old One. "Of course, who knows how long that will last?"
"What's that stuffy old Longneck mean by who knows how long that will last?" Cera asked in anger.
"Cera!" Littlefoot said to her. But the Old One didn't seem to mind her.
"My herd was roamed far and wide and everywhere, things are changing." The Old One explained.
There was gasps from everyone. Muttering about how things were changing. Parents holding onto their children as if they were protecting them from an unknown force. Chomper was quite surprised. What was she talking about?
"Old One, are you saying changes will happen here too?" Grandma asked her.
"I don't know." The Old One answered. "All I do know is that once, our land was just like yours. Then, water fell from the sky for weeks on end. Our land grew wet and soggy. Strange creatures began to make their home on what was once a dry land. Other creatures moved into the trees that was our source of food. The once green land we have migrated across for years had become, The Land of Mists. We had no choice but to leave."
"Does this mean you'll be staying with us Old One?" Grandma asked again.
"We stay in no place very long. But you and the other Great Valley Longnecks are welcome to join us when we leave. After all, there is safety in numbers."
