How did the other Detective Boys took in Conan and Ai's relationship, especially Ayumi and Mitsuhiko? (TIMELINE: a couple of weeks after ending of my first fanfic "To Be Permanently Conan")
Note: Conan and Ai are probably 12 and 13 years old respectively (physically) and the others are probably around 11 years old at this time.
Ayumi's POV
"Ai-chan, let's go home together." Conan's usual words to Ai as he takes her to her home after class.
I looked at both of them as they left together. I feel so sad about it. I remembered the words of Ai-chan to me.
"Why do you know so much about Conan-kun?" I asked Ai-chan, my best friend. "Is it because, you like him?"
She just turned around at me and answered, "So what if I do?"
I felt so uneasy with her answer. I know I can't compete with her.
"Then, I'm in trouble..."
She looked at me and smiled. Then looked back at the path she's walking.
"Don't worry, I don't feel the same way for him."
"Really? That would be great!" I just exclaimed in joy.
As I saw them leave, I can't see clearly. Am I crying? My vision's getting blurry and watery.
"Oi, Ayumi-chan, you must be hungry. Come with me!" Genta said to me.
"Um, no thanks Genta-kun. I'm not really hungry at this moment."
What really makes me sad right now is realizing that the person I like most will never feel the same way to me. And it really hurts to just accept it.
"Aw, c'mon! My treat, don't worry." Then he whispered something. "Maybe I could help with this problem of yours, if you would let me talk to you."
"Um... ok, if you insist." I accepted his request.
He's still my friend. Even though he is thinking about food maybe he could help me in times like these. And he usually is the one being treated when it comes to food. And he always eats a ton!
We left and went to his favorite stall where he orders his favorite eel soup. He ordered for the both of us. After a few moments I still haven't touched my serving.
"Ayumi-chan, please eat your serving. If you taste it, you will forget what bothers you." He remarked as he finished his bowl. "One more serving please!"
"Genta-kun, I-"
"It's about Conan and Haibara-san, right?"
"Mhmmm..." I said.
"Hehe... I knew it." He said grinning as he still eats his serving of soup.
"She assured me. She said she doesn't feel the same way. She.. She..."
"Hush. Now, now." He started to pat my back. "That is the reason why I invited you here. Maybe to make you feel better, just like before."
"Huh?"
"You see... to be honest..." He started to fluster himself.
"What about it?"
"Look, this is supposed to be a secret between me and Mitsuhiko. Promise me you will never tell him, ok?" He said, folding his hands together.
"Uhm, ok. I won't" I said.
"You see..."
FLASHBACK - Time before they met Conan
Genta's POV
"Thanks for the time together! I have to go home now. Bye Genta! Bye Mitsuhiko!" Ayumi said to the both of us.
As she disappears from our sight, I told Mitsuhiko, "I doubt it that she likes you."
"Excuse me? Of course she likes me!" Mitsuhiko exclaimed. "She enjoyed her time with me!"
"Huh? I think not! She enjoyed the snack I gave her better!" I shouted at him.
"Well, that may be true, because I enjoyed the snack too! But she likes the snack, not you!"
"Grrrr. Hmph." We shot glares at each other. They produce electricity and it was a glare of rivalry.
FAST FORWARD - Time where they first met Conan.
"Uhm, Conan-kun, come here and sit beside us!" Ayumi said.
"Ok, Thanks!" Conan said as he prepares his stuff beside our seats.
"Hi, I'm Genta." I greeted him. "And this is Mitsuhiko." Mitsuhiko waved at him.
"Hello, I'm Conan Edogawa. Nice to meet you." He said.
Ever since we met that boy, he always stands out. He answers all questions easily and got perfect scores in our exams. He is so smart in everything. Well, except music, it is.
And I noticed something also. Ayumi has been looking at him for more than 6 times. Everytime.
"Oi, Mitsuhiko." I called him.
"Yes? You noticed it also?"
"Yeah. Looks like our rivalry ends. Another rival appears." I said as we both look at Conan and Ayumi together.
END OF FLASHBACK
Ayumi's POV
"And that is our secret." Genta said sincerely.
"I... can't believe it." I said, almost giggled.
"Yeah. So please do not tell him that I told you, ok?"
"Okay, I won't tell him." I said.
He finished his second bowl of eel soup. "You know what, how can I even compete with Conan-kun? or Mitsuhiko even?" He said with a lowered voice.
"Um, I really don't know about that." I just said.
"That's why If I feel down, or just sad, I just order my favorite bowl of eel soup in this stall. And the day that I gave up competing even, I just ate a lot of servings here and I felt better. We may be different, but I hope this will help you in your problem with both of them. You just have to simply, accept the things that had already happened. Which reminds me, one more serving please!" He said then he laughed.
I laughed. I looked at my serving of eel soup. It has been cold since it was just sitting untouched.
"Focus more on your studies, Ayumi-chan. You're still young. You will find someone who will never break your heart." I replayed Conan-kun's reminders at me.
I smiled. I started to gobble up the cold soup and boy, it was delicious!
I felt better after eating that delicious eel soup.
"Um, Genta-kun..." I said to him seriously, which made him fluster a bit.
"Um y-yes?"
"Um, could I have another serving? It was delicious!" I said.
"Um, sure.. yeah! Hehehehe."
I ate one more bowl and it was satisfying because it was shared to me by a friend. I remembered the first snack he shared with me a long ago.
"Genta-kun, thanks for the time! And the food as well! See you tomorrow for school!" I said smiling.
He waved at me as he went to the opposite direction.
Genta-kun... I hope someone will appreciate you. You are a real friend even though you always think about food.
Mitsuhiko's POV
"She is a kid-turned teen too, like me." Conan's voice is ringing in my head.
"Ai-chan, Let's go, I'll take you home."
I punched the wall beside me as I walk a long, lonely road towards home. Only few people pass by, but none of these people really care about others. The wind gives off a cold breeze filled with sadness and melancholy.
"Don't choose her please, she's too hard to handle."
As I happen to pass by a park while walking, I saw the sunset give off a melancholic feeling as well.
"So please, don't choose her, she's older than you."
It's just too hard to sink in. Tears about to start to fall.
"Oi, Mitsuhiko kun!" I heard someone calling me.
I looked back, but I looked away immediately. It was Ayumi. I don't want her to see me cry. I wiped my face.
"Mitsuhiko, let's go home together." she said to me.
"Uh, *sniff* mhmm! let's go." I said.
"Hey, are you crying?"
I looked at her trying to smile. "Uh no hehehe. I just got colds recently."
"No. Don't lie. You're crying. There's trails of teardrops and your eyes are a bit red."
"Uh no no no..."
"I know. It's about Conan-kun and Ai-chan, right?"
I froze and said nothing.
"Looks like were thinking the same thing." She said.
We sat on some stones on that park for a while and talked.
"Mitsuhiko, you've considered Conan-kun as a rival, right?" She asked.
"Huh? Wait, how did you know that?"
"Genta told me about your rivalry before. So it's likely possible that you will consider him as your rival as well. Oops, I wasn't supposed to tell that to you. Please keep it a secret that I told you."
"What? That Genta..." I said a bit angry. "But, yeah. We were rivals before until Conan-kun came in."
She giggled. "So what are you thinking right now?"
"Nothing really. I just can't really compete with him. Now especially that they are really adults." I said with a sad tone. "They won't feel the same way towards us."
"Hm, you're right." She said smiling. "I also struggled to take in these things. Especially when Ai-chan assured me that she doesn't feel the same way towards Conan-kun. But look at the bright side, Mitsuhiko. They became a part of our life. Aren't you thankful about it?"
Ayumi has a point. "Um, yeah." I said.
"Before they came, we just play and have fun. But when Conan-kun came, we got an exciting activity. Solving cases! We became the Detective Boys!" She said smiling.
Wow. Ayumi has accepted these things easily. If she can, I can do it as well!
"Yeah. I just needed to learn to accept it!" I was encouraged.
She took my hand. "Alright, let's go home together!"
We both went home and I took her home first.
"Thanks, Ayumi-chan!" I said, blushing a bit. "Um, by the way, you can let go of my hand now. You've been holding it the entire walk."
"Oh um right, sorry." She blushed. "Anyway, thanks for taking me home. See you tomorrow for school!"
I waved at her as I walk towards home.
Ayumi-chan, thanks for letting me realize that my friendship with them matters more than my personal interest. And I don't want to ruin my friendship with Conan-kun nor Haibara-san.
Thanks, I'm now able to move on.
