Chapter 3: The Circle of Life

As time went on, Ali was no longer scared of the new faces. But Cera still refused to be friends with her because she still believed that Ali was trying to pull Littlefoot away from them.

Soon after, it was time to go home for the night. Everyone except Cera said goodbye as Ali followed Littlefoot and Ruby over to his nest. But when they got there, she saw something. And it did not look very good.

All the migrating Longnecks were gathered up at Littlefoot's nest. And something was wrong with Grandpa.

"Grandma." Littlefoot said as he walked over. "What is it? What's wrong with Grandpa?"

"You're grandfather is very ill Littlefoot." Grandma answered.

"Ill? Well he'll get better. Won't he?"

"I don't know Littlefoot. Some dinosaurs do. And some don't."

Now Littlefoot was starting to worry. He already lost his mother. He didn't want to lose his grandfather to. Just then, the Old One walked over and said,

"I've seen this sickness many times in my life. No Leaf-eater ever recovers from it."

"What?" Littlefoot asked. "But he has to."

"The only way he'll recover is if he eats the golden peddles of the Night Flower."

"The Night Flower?" Ruby asked as the other Longnecks joined in.

"The Night Flower?"

"Did you hear that?"

"Golden Peddles."

"Sick Leaf-eaters eat them and are cured. If they eat them in time." Said the Old One.

"Grandma, we have to get the Night Flower for Grandpa." Said Littlefoot.

"Old One. Where can we find the Night Flower?" Grandma asked.

"In the land we came from. The Land of Mists."

There were gasps heard from everyone.

"The Land of Mists." Said Ruby.

"Cousins, who will take me to the Night Flower?" Grandma asked.

"Not me."

"I'm not going back there."

"The land has changed too much." Said the Old One. "Longnecks are not welcome there anymore."

"But what about my grandpa?" Littlefoot asked despritly.

"It is too dangerous." The Old One said again. "I'm sorry. But there's nothing we can do."

And then, the Old One walked away. Ali wanted to stay and help Littlefoot look after Grandpa. But her mother walked over.

"Come Ali. It's late."

"But Mother, can't we do anything to help?" She asked.

"I'm sorry dear. We can do nothing."

As they walked away, Littlefoot and Ruby stood where they were. And Littlefoot was worried even more. He still wanted to do something.

"Littlefoot." Grandpa said weakly. "I want you to promise that if anything happens to me,"

"But Grandpa. You have to get better." Said Littlefoot.

"You're still very young. And Grandma isn't as strong as she once was. If our valley does change, I want be here to protect you. Our cousins are strong. And the Old One is wise."

"I don't think she's so smart." Littlefoot said furmly.

"Me nither." Said Ruby.

"Littlefoot. Promise me that you and Grandma will go with them when the time comes."

"But Grandpa,"

"Promise me."

Littlefoot sighed. "Okay. I promise."

Now Ruby was worried to. If Grandpa passes away, it means she'll never get to see Littlefoot again. And she didn't want that to happen.

"It's time for sleep children." Grandma said to them.

"But I wanna help you watch Grandpa." Said Littlefoot.

"You can help me be getting some rest."

"But we have to do something." Said Ruby.

"Children. We must all learn to except what The Great Circle Of Life hands us."

"No." Both Littlefoot and Ruby wined.

"Please try to understand. There's nothing we can do. But try not to worry. The Great Circle Of Life gives us many good things to. Sometimes when we least expect them."

On the way to the Littlefoot's resting hole, Grandma began to sing a lullaby about the Circle Of Life.

(Song start)

The Circle Of Life

It's simple. Yet profound.

A quite straight forward line that goes around and round and round.

It starts at the beginning.

And it will never end.

And that to me must surely be life's secret my friend.

For the circle of life,

Continues everyday.

Nun of us can stop it from going on its way.

With each new generation,

One more circle is complete.

On and on and on it goes.

Repeating

Repeating

Repeating

Repeating

It nerches the young.

Until they're fully grown.

And soon life's magic circle brings them children of their own.

The family of natior.

Each husband and wife.

Enhances the circle.

The ever whiding circle.

The wonderful circle of life.

(Song end)

Soon, they reached the hole. Littlefoot stepped in with Ruby as both of them went into balls.

"Good night children." Grandma said as she went back to confert Grandpa.

However, both of them began to roll around and grown as Grandma walked away. Until,

"Maybe there is something we can do." Said Littlefoot.

"We can find the Night Flower." Said Ruby.

"Don't worry Grandpa. We'll be back."

With that said, Littlefoot and Ruby got up and went to find Ali.

Authors note:

I'm sorry for the long wait. Things were getting too bissy for me in the real world. Plus, I've been going through a writers block. But I'll try to keep working though.
