Weiss Schnee stretched her back, enjoying the tingles that came along with each pleasant pop. Her first day of classes was at an end, and even with some unfortunate setbacks, in the form of not being team leader, a baby taking up her teachers' time, and a certain professor who did not know the meaning of the word 'condensed', it was still quite good.
She found Ruby's mother, the fabled deputy headmistress Glynda Goodwitch, a person well able to live up to her name and accompanying fame. She was strict. She was harsh. Yet, she was also impeccably fair and well informed on every matter combat related. From answering questions related to specific weapon design, to improving the forms of each and every student who was able to fight that day. It surprised her how much the professor seemed to gleam from her own fighting style in her two minute bout against some boy named Russel Thrush. Of course, she had to perform said fight while simultaneously answering increasingly more difficult questions about aura and aura regeneration.
She could still feel the throbbing in her shoulder from when she answered a question wrong. The professor proceeded to fling a large rock at her head. Luckily, Weiss had been able dodge, minimizing the worst of the damage. Goodwitch had told her, her shoulder would be healed with a night's rest, so she was not truly concerned.
The professor had told her that with a bit more effort put into increasing her flexibility and endurance, she could dramatically improve. She also pointed out Weiss's tendency to raise her elbow before dust-infused thrusts, which would give away her movements to an enemy. It would be something Weiss would have to work on in the future.
But along with the mighty professor, came her less than mighty daughter. The girl seemed to be on the verge of shouting after every question posed to the class. After every fight when professor Goodwitch asked what had been done wrong and where to improve. She clapped too loud after every fight. She drew pictures in your notebook, flipping through coloured pencils and markers with wild abandon.
The scritch-scratching of marker on paper was greatly distracting to her when she was trying to follow the movements of each fight. Aside from the professor's added tests; from throwing rocks, to wreaking havoc on the aura gauges, to placing explosives on the field itself, just following two fighters with wildly unique fighting styles and trying to decipher each strength and weakness was challenging enough for her. The added distraction of Ruby was not helpful in the slightest. If not for her mother being in the same room with them, Weiss would have surely given that child a good talking to.
Realizing what she still had to do that day, she let out a frustrated sigh.
"Great," she muttered, turning the heads of her teammates.
"What's on your mind Weissy-Weiss?" Nora said, nudging her with her elbow, much to Weiss's chagrin.
"Don't call me that-"
"-Anything you say Weissy-Weiss!" Nora interrupted.
Continuing, "I was unable to write any notes for professor Oobleck's class-"
"Doctor!" They all heard, shouted from some unknown distance.
They looked around for the green haired professor-doctor, unable to find him anywhere.
"Moving on, I need his notes in order to study and stay on top of his lectures, so I… ugh, I need to visit the child."
Nora's eyes lit up. "Ruby?! Can you tell her I said hi? And that she is just so super adorable, I just want to wrap her up in a pancake, slather her with syrup and take a bite?"
Weiss's eyes darted to Blake's, who shrugged and rolled her own, before darting back to the boisterous redhead. "I… will take your words for her into consideration."
Hands on hips, Nora nodded an exaggerated nod, happy with the answer.
"Well, you go do that," Blake said, walking from the group. "I will be in the library reading if you need me."
Nora latched onto a blushing, crimson and pink Ilia, stated that the two of them were going on a "partner date to Vale's famous pancake house" and took off towards the bullhead docks.
Alone once more, she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath, mustering the courage to face Ruby Goodwitch once more without blowing a fuse. But for the sake of her grade, it must be done.
Ruby Goodwitch was apparently listed as having an office, on Beacon's teacher database. Which in itself was strange to see, if not for the even stranger fact that listed her office location as having been unchanged for six years. What, had a four year old been given an office to play around in? What did kids do anyways for fun? Build with blocks? Learn the alphabet?
Following the directions on her scroll, she found herself separated from the major landmarks that made up the prestigious huntsman academy and towards the more hidden aspects which allowed a school of that size to function. Custodial buildings, energy generators, professor laboratories and other essential buildings. Standing in front of a small stone building, she read the label over the doorway. "The Maria Calavera Building."
Looking back at her scroll to confirm she was at the right place; she went to open the door. Ruby's supposed office was room 1 in the Maria Calavera Building, so it had to be easy to find. When she pushed, the door would not budge.
She tried pulling, muttering about the lack of directional signs on the door. Once more, no such luck.
Only then did she notice a doorbell. Rolling her eyes, she gave it a quick ring. It was most likely a security measure. To keep unknowns away from the building. The professor laboratories likely had the same system in place. To ensure the protection of confidential projects and experiments.
Seeing no response or signal the door had been unlocked, she tried again. Then a third time, she ring growing more and more frustrated.
Finally, there were the sounds of footsteps from inside.
"I'm coming, I'm coming. Sheesh." Came the muffled female voice from inside. Likely a receptionist or security.
The door was unlocked and swung open.
Weiss, prepared to rant to the receptionist about handling doors properly, blanched.
"H-hello, professor Goodwitch." Her anger immediately sucked back into herself, hiding from the tired gaze of her strict professor.
"Can I help you with anything? Or is there another reason for you to be standing outside my home?"
"H-home?"
Oh Weiss, always getting yourself into trouble.
merendinoemelliano - Thank you!
TiberiumSnow - Thanks and I plan to.
Darknight2124 - Not a fetish, just thought it'd be funny if Ilia was a useless lesbian in this story. And what mother doesn't want to show off at least a little bit for their kids?
YuukiAsuna-Chan - Now i kinda want to write that scene... Guess we'll see!
Therecklessone - Now I really want to write a Ruby fight scene. Eventually! Ruby Goodwitch must battle her classmates and become the supreme ten-year old!
