Chapter 13: Welcomed

Nessie's POV

Jacob's warm arm brushed against my body. That simple touch made my heart start galloping. He was hot in every sense of the word. His skin was burning hot to the touch. As were his daughters as well. The two babies felt oddly warm in my arms. I looked up at Jacob and blushed when I'd caught him staring at me.

"You're beautiful, did you know that?"

I'd suddenly lost the ability to talk. "I-I-,"

"Speechless are you? You're really cute when you blush by the way,"

Heat flooded my cheeks. God if he thought I was cute when I blushed I was sure that I absolutely adorable right now.

"Um thanks?" It came out sounding like a question. "You know Jacob You're a really nice guy when you're not slamming me against the wall,"

Now it was his turn to blush. "I never did apologize for that. I'm really sorry Nessie. I was just-well I don't know what overcame me,"

"You were worried about those wolf pups. I understand. I didn't want them to get killed either. Where are they by the way? I thought you said you owned them,"

It might have been just my imagination but I could have sworn that he glanced down at Emma and Amaya who were sound asleep in my arms. "Oh they're around here somewhere. We don't keep them fenced in. I'm sure they'll show up somewhere,"

"Well you better keep an eye on them. We have a problem with poachers around here. They'll do anything to make a quick buck. Even kill innocent baby animals. They failed once once with those pups but next time they might succeed,"

He shuddered. "Believe me I'm keeping a much closer eye on them then you think,"

For me it was literally impossible not to stare at Jacob. Maybe if he was actually wearing a shirt I could look away. How was it possible for a guy to be so muscular? When he put his hand on my arm it sent electric shock waves throughout my body. I leaned in closer to him.

I shook my head. This was wrong. Jacob was a man with a family. I shouldn't be thinking about him that way. He was unavailable. I was with Justin. I had a boyfriend. Jacob and I could only be friends. But why was it that there was a part of me, albeit a small part, that wanted Jacob? Why did I feel a connection there? Why was I getting attached to his babies? Well that last question could be easily answered. There were two things I got attached to almost instantly. Animals and babies. However that didn't explain why I'd suddenly felt something sudden, intense, and strong with Jacob.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked.

"I'm thinking what lovely babies you have here," it was a half truth. The part I was not embarrassed to admit.

"They really are," he said.

I shook my head. I tried to fight the growing attraction that I felt to him. But it was a loosing battle. I felt as if I was betraying Justin even though I hadn't done anything wrong.

"Nessie are you feeling okay? You look like you're going to be sick," Jacob looked concerned. Did I really look like the hot mess that I suddenly felt?

"I'm fine Jake. I'm not sick," Well technically I was but that was beside the point. I felt fine for now.

The rest of the day went by pretty quickly after that. Carlisle had instructed me to rest and I was more than happy to oblige. My body felt physically and mentally drained after everything that had happened the night before. I didn't even realize that I had fallen asleep until I heard the rest of the family returning home from school.

I was taken aback by just how welcoming they all were. I still thought Edward was the most annoying of all of them though. Alice was easily my favorite of the bunch. She was so nice and friendly that it was literally impossible not to like her. Even if she did insist on dressing me up over and over like a three dimensional barbie doll. Only Bella empathized with my pleas to escape.

Besides Alice I'd say that my other favorite member of the Cullen family was Emmett. His sheer size had intimidated me at first. I had steered clear of him in the beginning. But then I heard him telling jokes and I couldn't help but laugh. I warmed up to him rather quickly after that.

Bella asked me a lot of questions about my childhood. She was very interested in my life's story. As a matter of fact they would all stop and listen whenever Bella would ask me something about my life. That was a little strange. It was kind of odd how easily this family had accepted me into their lives.

Before I knew it I was falling asleep at 11pm. When I woke up again they were gone. I panicked until Carlisle came and explained that they'd all left for school again. I was about to get ready for school myself when he stopped me. I hadn't had a goodnight the night before. Two hours after I'd gone to bed I woke up coughing. I was coughing so much that I couldn't breathe. Blood kept coming out of my mouth.

If it weren't for Carlisle's quick intervention I was not sure what would have happened. He'd gotten me connected to a breathing machine which helped clear out my lungs and made it easier to breathe. It was scary. So now Carlisle thought it was best for me to stay home one more day to rest.

I didn't mind as it meant that I got to spend the day with Jacob and his babies once again. I found Jacob on the couch holding both of his girls.

"Hi Jake," I'd smiled.

"Hi Nessie-" I was surprised when Emma and Amaya held out there arms toward me.

"Can I?"

"Of course," Jacob answered. "I was about to go make their bottles anyway,'

"Can I feed them?" I asked feeling stupidly excited.

"You don't even have to ask," Jake disappeared and came back a few minutes later with two warm bottles. About halfway through the feeding there was a loud howl outside. I jumped up with both babies in hand and went to see what was the matter.

"Ness wait!"

Jacob pulled me in close to his chest when I opened the door. I was shocked when I saw a horse sized wolf just outside the house. It was a large gray wolf just like the baby wolf I'd taken care of earlier. This one was the size of a horse. It was a female from what I could tell.

The wolf froze when it saw me. The animal looked at me first, then Jacob's arm around my waist, and lastly the two babies in my arms. Pure anger flashed in the animal's eyes. Her hackles raised as she poised to strike.
