Chapter 14: Leah

Nessie's POV

"Ness get inside the house. Right now," Jacob urged.

The wolf walked closer and closer to me. I held the baby girls closer to my body. "Ness I mean it. Get inside right now," when I didn't move fast enough Jacob pushed me back several feet and closed the door quickly.

First I heard nothing but a lot of growling and snarling. I was about to look when Emma and Amaya started crying. So instead I took them upstairs into the bedroom. The girls were so upset that they were trembling.

"Shh. It's okay," I rocked them gently hoping that it would soothe both girls. I heard a lot of noise downstairs. I vaguely wondered why the Cullen were going to investigate. Then I remembered that Carlisle was at work, Emma had gone out to run some errands, and the rest were at school. It sounded like two people were arguing.

"You're right I don't understand the power of the imprint and I never will. But that doesn't mean you can just-"

"Leah please I don't make a scene!" I heard Jacob beg desperately.

"I don't give a shit about what you want!" A woman yelled back. The voices were getting closer and closer.

The door flew wide open and hit the wall with a loud bang that pierced my ears. In the doorway stood a beautiful woman. She was so angry that her nostrils were flaring. She walked over to me and yanked the babies out of my arms before I was even aware of what was happening. "You stay the hell away from my babies and my husband you treacherous little snake!"

I was so shocked that I died even know how to respond. The door slammed behind her before I could even think of a comeback. I felt sick to my stomach. I jumped when I heard the door opening again thinking it was her. It was Jacob.

"Ness," he looked alarmed when he saw me. He was at my side in seconds. "Ness I am so sorry about that. I am so sorry. She just-"

"It's okay Jake," I wiped the tears away. "She thinks that you're cheating on her with me doesn't she?"

"It's a bit more complicated than that,"

"No. I don't think it is Jake. I don't know why or how but she-"

"Ness please don't make excuses for her. What she said to you was wrong and I will talk to her about that. I promise you that she won't ever talk to you like that again,"

I shook my head. "No Jake. Don't do that. You're just going to make things worse,"

He looked very confused. "I don't follow," he admitted.

I sighed in exasperation. "Jake I don't know but somehow she must have seen us together and jumped to conclusions. Then when she saw me holding her babies it must have really put her over the edge. As a woman trust me when I say she thinks that you are cheating on her with me. She feels betrayed. If you go and try to defend me its just going to reaffirm her belief that we're together. It's better if you don't. Trust me on this,"

"I don't like that Ness. I don't want her to think that she can treat you so horribly and get away with it,"

"I don't like it either but I get it. If I thought Justin was cheating on me I'd be just as angry as your wife. What I am saying is that I totally understand her perspective. Whatever you do Jacob don't fan the flames and make things worse,"

"Fine. Whatever you want Ness,"

"Where'd she go off to anyway?"

"I don't know. I've learned that when she's mad about something it's best just to leave her be for awhile. Let her cool off. Bite your head off isn't exactly a figure of speech when it comes to Leah," he laughed.

"I'm going out for awhile," I suddenly decided.

"Where?" he asked.

"I don't know," I replied. "I just need to get out of here for a little while. Tell the Cullen that I will be back later,"

"I will come with you,"

"Jake don't. Your wife is already upset enough. If she catches us together she might really lose it. Don't worry I will be alright,"

"Don't worry she says. She's only got a terminal illness that can claim her life any minute and she doesn't want me to worry," he muttered to himself.

I looked at the time as I drove into town. I texted Justin to call me when he could. I was surprised when he called only a minute later.

"Justin aren't you in school?" I asked him before even saying 'hello to him.

"Today was an early day Ness. Or did you forget? School just got out for the day. What's up?"

"Well since you're out do you want to meet me for lunch?"

"Sure," he said. "Where?" he asked.

"How about the diner?" I suggested.

"Okay I'll be there in ten minutes"

I smiled. This was exactly the distraction that I needed after what happened this morning. Treacherous snake. The words bothered me more then they should. I was not the kind of woman that would ever be with a married man. I would never be with any man if I knew he was with another woman. I was not the type of woman that would ever do something like that.

My worries vanished the second that I saw Justin waiting for me by the door at the diner. "Ness are you alright?" after we ordered our food. Damn I thought all of my worries had vanished.

"Yeah I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"Because I can't help but worrying about you knowing what you're going through. Especially when you don't show up at school for days in a row. You're not feeling sick are you?"

I rolled my eyes and attempted to downplay his worries. "This Justin is exactly why I didn't want to tell you about my cancer right away. Because I knew you'd always be worried about me and you'd just see me differently,"

"Of course I'm worried Ness. How can I not be? I'm terrified that one day I'm going to wake up and find out the girl I've loved all my life has died. But even though I have that fear I'm glad that you told me. Because I don't want you to feel like you're alone in this. Besides I still have confidence that you'll beat this. Doctors have been wrong before,"

"Can we just get our food and go sit down and talk about something more pleasant?" I got my food and he got his.

"Sounds good to me," he said.

"Good so how's-" I slipped over some water that someone had spilled and crashed right into the person in front of me and accidentally dropped my food all over her.

"I'm so sorry I-" I immediately shut up when I saw that it was none other than the woman that had yelled at me earlier. Jacob's wife Leah. The babies were at the table right in front of her. Her face had gone from angry to downright furious. She was actually shaking.

"Why you little-"

"Ness are you okay?" Justin looked panicked as he helped me up.

She glanced at my boyfriend and something strange happened. The look of pure anger that was there only seconds ago had faded. It was as if I could actually see a change happening within her. The anger within her had vanished. It had replaced by a look of love, loyalty, and devotion. It was the same look that I'd often seen in Jacob's eyes when he looked at me. One that I'd shrugged off and ignored because I was sure I was imagining things.

I wasn't imagining this. I wasn't imagining the way she'd kneeled down in front of my boyfriend as if she were ready to worship the ground he walked on.
