Chapter 16: Party
Nessie's POV
I could smell the delicious aromas of different food when I'd arrived at Royce's house. Cheeseburgers, fries, fried chicken just to name a few. Of course their was the alcohol as well. Royce's parents knew all about these parties. They were more than happy to supply us with food and alcohol. If course giving minors alcohol was highly illegal but we more than happy to keep the secret. I myself had many years of practice of keeping the very same secret for my aunt and uncle. Only difference was that absolutely no one knew about my aunt and uncle. Or at least they hadn't until now.
"Ness you're here!" Sophie squealed excitedly.
"Of course. I wasn't going to miss a good party now could I?"
"Well you have been missing a lot of school lately. I was starting to get worried,"
"I haven't been feeling well," I admitted. "So I have had doctors notes excusing me from class the past few days. The Cullens have been bringing me all of my work,"
"You don't look sick,"
"I feel much better now actually," It was the truth. Right now I didn't feel sick. I was breathing fine.
"You haven't been faking it have you?" Royce added in an accusatory tone of voice.
"Nk I haven't been-" a coughing fit erupted from my chest. Thankfully there was no blood this time. "faking anything," my voice sounded weak.
Both of them looked at me in concern. "You see? Haven't been faking anything. I was sick. I guess the cough is still lingering a little," I was surprised by how easily the lies rolled off of my own tongue now.
"Well come eat. Maybe food will help you feel better. Than after that the real fun will begin,"
The smiled that appeared on my face was instaneous. Party, food, and alcohol. That's exactly what I needed right now. I just wanted to forget everything for awhile. Just to forget that I was dying. At least for a few hours. It was with that thought that I went and mixed a shot of tequila in with a cup of soda.
Soon after that more people started to arrive and the party really started. After my second shot of tequila I started to feel a light buzz coming on. I liked it. I felt so happy and carefree. I was just here hanging out with my teammates drinking and having a good time. Not worrying about things like cancer and death. It was as if a huge weight had been lifted off of my shoulders.
"So Ness are you going to school tomorrow or have you been excused for the rest of the week?" Sophie asked as she went to sit down next to me.
"I have been excused for the whole week. But since I was feeling better I came to the game today. But definitely not going to school tomorrow,"
"Lucky you. You'll at least be able to sleep off the inevitable hang over. Not me though. But it is totally worth it,"
"Or you could just not drink at all," We busted out in simultaneous laughter.
"Not drink at all? That's funny coming from the girl who has already had two shots of tequila and a glass of Vodka,"
"Why are you counting all of my drinks? Besides if we're keeping tally here I'm pretty certain that you'll have me beat. You usually do,"
"True but I think it's my brother who wins first place in the 'who can drink the most contest' he has us all beat,"
"Hey are you girls talking about me?" Royce appeared as if he'd heard us talking about him.
"Not you in particular just about how much alcohol you can drink at one party," I laughed. "Of course that's a compliment,"
He rolled his eyes at us. "You two aren't that far behind when it comes to who can drink the most. Anyway the games are about to start,"
I fell as I jumped out of my seat. I loved drinking games. Beer pong was my favorite of them all. But of course there were other games as well that were also very enjoyable. Beer, tequila, Vodka, Wine, and many different types of alcohol were consumed during these games.
The only thing I could feel now was pure bliss. Pure happiness. I longed to hold onto this feeling as long as I could. I was barely aware of the time passing as the sky got darker and darker. By then the party was really raging on. People were so intoxicated that they were tripping over nothing but thin air. I laughed when I saw people falling and tripping. But I couldn't judge them too harshly. Because I could no longer walk a straight line either.
It was not until I heard someone say that it was almost two in the morning that I realized just how late it was. Most of the other kids were still partying. Their parents knew that they were here but they believed it was just a harmless sleepover. They never knew about all their kids consumed here.
Usually I stayed the night also but since I didn't bring my stuff with me I decided to head back. I stumbled and fell as I walked over to my car. I just laughed it off. I got into my car and began my drive back to the Cullen house.
I could barely see the road ahead of me as I was driving. Everything ahead of me looked like one huge blurry mess. I just laughed it off as my car kept swerving left and right. I heard a loud frantic honking and the sound of someone slamming on their breaks. I'd swerved so far left that I'd crossed the barrier that was the dividing line in the middle of the street. I could barely see anything through my blurry vision but headlights headed right toward me.
