It's a few days after the incident, and Jazmine had since then done her best to comprehend what had just happened.
She had done her best.
Now, she's on the path home from school with him. The autumn breeze is especially frosty, but the trees are orange and look pretty so she doesn't mind. She's wearing her furry brown boots today and likes the way the leaves crunch with her every step.
He's walking silently beside her in his huge black coat. Eyes narrow in thought, forehead creasing, even after years of friendship and familiarity, she finds that she can't read him.

She hasn't seen him since the incident either, and admittedly she's more than a little nervous to talk to him. Because come on, seriously, has he really never hit her up since? It isn't like Huey to just disregard anything as momentous as… sex, or so she thinks. The little girl in her reappears and wishes for the thousandth time that he could be more talkative or at least be more sensitive to her feelings. And, for the thousandth time, she questions why this boy still gives her butterflies.
Anyway, her curiosity gets the best of her, as it always does.
"So... what's the verdict?"
Fuck, she curses, just as she says it. She cringes at the shakiness of her voice.
He doesn't even look at her. "The verdict on what?"
"Oh, you know," she replies, not bothering to hide the annoyance in her voice. "The thing."
"What thing?"
"Huey, stop being difficult," she scolds. It's just so him to be dry when he obviously knows what she's talking about. It's that little sick side of him that toys with her endlessly, and she knows it amuses him a little to see her riled up about it.
"What am I being difficult for?"
She deadpans, casting her most serious impression on. "I woke up in your bed naked and could barely walk for days."
And with that, Huey smirks. Jazmine rolls her eyes.
"Huey, I'm being serious! And you haven't talked to me for since! Even your emotionally constipated brain would understand why I'm freaking about this."
"Don't overthink it, Jazmine," is the only comment he has to offer, and Jazmine debates smashing his face to the ground.
"I'm not! We had sex, Huey!"
"Shh," he scolds, looking around her gingerly. "Jaz, you need to chill."
"And we haven't even kissed yet! Ever! And you never act like you're interested in me! Then suddenly we screw and you act like you don't even care about it! Do you even like me?"
Huey cuts her off then, and quickly appears in front of her, catching her off-guard. Jazmine's eyes widen. She hates how he can get her to shut up life that, when really, she should still be mad at him.
Then Huey, with a ghost of a smile in his lips, lifts her hands, his rough hands running over her forearms.
And presses her lips to hers.
Jazmine cannot breathe, and when she gasps in surprise he takes that opportunity to deepen it further, wrapping his arms around her waist. She can feel his hands squeezing softly on her skin, and it sets her on fire.
Once he figures she's not pushing her away, Huey runs his tongue against her lips, and it makes her blush. Jazmine can barely process what was happening, but Huey is persistent and her mind screams fuck it.
She leans into the kiss, then, grasping the collar of his coat and getting on her tip-toes to deepen it. He backs her up across the sidewalk a little, and Jazmine moans lightly at the friction. She is not quick enough to catch him when suddenly Huey pulls back. Jazmine is left dumbfounded with flaming cheeks and frosty air.
"You can use words, you know," she says, wiping her mouth with her sleeve. She furrows her eyebrows. She wonders vaguely what got Huey so great at kissing like that.
This is unfair. Just like how he's great at everything else.
But Huey, in the smooth, unbothered way he does everything, is already walking, his arms shoved in his coat pockets, and Jazmine hates how nothing fazes him at all.
"I know."
