Wormtail Tries to Negotiate his Freedom
Harry didn't know what to expect if he ever met Wormtail. His dad haven't kept much pictures of the guy despite use to being friends. After finding out what happened between Wormtail and his parents Harry now understood why. But still, the wizard in front of him wasn't what Harry expected.
Wormtail was a very short man, hardly taller than Harry. His thin colorless hair was unkempt and there was a large bald patch on top. He was thin and pale, but Harry guess that was because of his time in Azkaban. His pale skin looked grubby, and he had pointed nose and very small watery eyes. He had a knife in one hand and Harry's wand in the other.
Harry just had hope Crookshanks understood the situation he saw and gone to get Hermione. He had a feeling Crookshanks was more than just clever. Whenever he saw that cat, Crookshanks often reminded Harry of Filch's cat Mrs. Norris on patrol, studying everything around it, keeping an eye out for trouble.
They spend a long time in the shrieking shack.
"So… If you were friends with my dad and uncles, how come you betrayed them?" Harry asked. "I mean they couldn't have detest you like Professor Snape."
"I didn't have a choice," Wormtail said. "Voldemort was going to kill me if I didn't. He was going to kill anyone that didn't follow him."
"And you use the tunnels and passages to get into Hogwarts?"
"Not at first. I thought your father had the tunnels protected using the Maurder's map. But as I scurried around, it didn't seem the case."
"Until you first attack," Harry said. "Then my dad went looking for the Map to scout out all tunnels."
"All I wanted was to use you to negotiate with the Death Eaters that avoided Azkaban," Wormtail said. "You had no idea what it been like for me the past twelve years! Death Eaters been threatening my life daily, blaming me for Master's demise. And those Dementors—they made things worse. It was torture."
"How did you overcome the magic keeping you from turning into a Rat?" Harry asked.
"That was on one of the Ministry members visiting… a new guy. The dementors was affecting him big time it mess up his spells," Wormtail said. "I-I just whispered some things to scare the guy up until one day he screwed up checking the spell."
"So you use what the Death Eaters put you through to escape," Harry said. "And you were hoping to use me as peace offering to the Death Eaters wanting you dead."
"Yes, but now I have to change my plans due to the fact I can't escape as either human or rat," Wormtail said raising Harry's wand.
Just then the door burst open. "Expelliarmus!" a voice shouted.
Harry's wand shot out of Wormtail's hand. Harry manage to catch it in midair.
Remus and Sirius burst through.
"That's enough Peter! Step down!" James demanded.
"You came," Wormtail said.
"Uncle Padfoot!" Harry responded. "Uncle Moony, what are you doing here?"
"We told him to stay back and wait for Snape with the potion," Sirius admitted.
"I wasn't about to let Wormtail take away my nephew," Remus said.
"We wouldn't have come down here after Tonks gave us your message, but Hermione Ron and Neville came to us," Sirius said. "Something about Crookshanks kept jumping on them and wouldn't leave them alone, until they followed him to us. When we realize you haven't come back from Astronomy Tower, we took out the Maurder's Map and couldn't find you anywhere. That's when we know Peter took you."
"But if you… why you come here then?" Wormtail asked.
"By chance really," Sirius admitted. "We didn't know if you were aware that Harry knew the Patronus Charm, so there was a small chance you would take him to the one hiding spot the Map can't find. Meanwhile James and Tonks are searching the school grounds for you two. Which reminds me…"
Sirius took out a mirror that Harry recognize as the communication mirror. "Prongs, we found Harry. He and Wormtail were at the Shrieking Shack."
"On my way," Harry heard his dad say.
"Harry, how did Peter get to you?" Lupin asked.
"He snuck up on me," Harry said. "And he also threatened to capture Luna if I didn't go with him."
"You little rat, threatening another student to get to Harry," Sirius snarled.
"You don't understand! I had to do what I can to keep the Death Eaters from killing me," Wormtail explained.
"And they should," Sirius said.
"Harry, please! You have to understand!" Wormtail said.
"LEAVE HIM ALONE!" roared Sirius. "You done enough to him!"
"What could I have done? The Dark Lord… you have no idea… he has weapons you can't imagine… I was scared, Sirius, Remus, I'm not as brave like you two and James. I never meant it to happen… He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named forced me—"
"That's a lie!" Sirius responded. "You always go for the biggest strongest person you can find. First us, then Voldemort. You are nothing but a traitor. And once James gets here, we'll send you straight to the Dementors for the Dementor kiss you deserve."
Sirius waved his wand and Pettigrew was wriggling on the floor bound and gagged. Remus added a full body bind curse to add to it.
"We can't have him transform into rat form," Remus said. "We bet…"
Remus stopped as his body gone rigid.
