Chapter Eight

Fitz was cleaning up the mess from breakfast since his mother cooked when he heard his phone ring. He immediately smiled knowing that it was Olivia.

Katherine was watching Fitz smile at his phone as he responded to a text. She hasn't seen that smile on his face in such a long time. The smile that meant he was talking to a woman, but she has never seen him smile quite like this. It warmed her heart to finally see her son taking a chance.

While Mira was watching some cartoons, she knew that this was the time to talk to him about what happened last night and who he was talking to.

"So, Fitz, how did everything go last night? Did you enjoy yourself?"

Fitz started to blush thinking about what happened with Olivia last night.

"I'm guessing by that blush on your face right now something good happened." Katherine gave her son a knowing look.

"I ran into Olivia last night."

"Mira's teacher?"

"Yeah…" Fitz looked down at his phone thinking about Olivia and the last text he sent to her.

"Son don't leave an old woman hanging. What happened?"

"We talked for a bit and danced the night away. We just felt connected in a way that I can't explain. It was kind of like dad would explain his feelings when he met you. We decided to go on a date on Saturday. But I'm worried that this won't be a good idea."

Katherine smiled at her son. It was about time he found some happiness outside of Mira.

"Why won't it be a good idea? You finally found a woman that you connect with. You deserve some happiness in your life. Sure, she is Mira's teacher, but she won't be forever. You have that smile on your face that I haven't seen in such a long time."

"Last night just felt like a dream that I didn't want to wake up from. We've been texting this morning and it just feels so comfortable. Maybe you're right mom and I should just take this chance."

Katherine puts her hand on his cheek.

"My boy, you have always had big heart and I've been worried that you wouldn't find someone who appreciated you enough. Maybe Olivia is the woman for you or maybe not, but you have to take the chance."

Before Fitz could say anything his phone dinged. It was a message from Olivia.

So, about this date, you better bring your A-game because I'll be bringing it! – Olivia

Fitz couldn't help but smile and shake his head. Katherine noticed his reaction and grabbed his hand before he could reply.

"Take a leap of fate and finally be happy."

Katherine gets up and gives her son a kiss on the cheek.

Fitz sighed and responded back to Olivia.

Don't worry about my game, worry about yours. Can't wait to see you soon ;) – Fitz

Olivia couldn't help but smile. She has never felt this giddy over a guy before not even with Edison. Olivia was worried though. She didn't expect to get in a relationship with a guy so soon after breaking off an engagement.

Woah relationship, Olivia thought, we haven't even gone on a date yet. Don't get ahead of yourself. Olivia shook herself out of those thoughts. She didn't even know what he was feeling or what he thought about whatever 'this' is. He also has a child to worry about and she would never want to get in the way of their relationship. His daughter should always come first.

Before she could respond to him, she got a text.

I know you might be second guessing things just like I am but maybe it's time for us to take a leap of fate. I've never felt this way with anyone else and I want to explore that. Mira does come first, and I love how you respect that. We can take it slow and see where this take us. No promises just us. – Fitz

It's like he knew what she was thinking, and his text made her smile. He was right. It was time to take a leap of fate. She couldn't let her past define her future and she wanted to explore what she had with Fitz.

It's like you can read my mind. I'm hesitant because of my past but I'll take that leap of faith with you as long as you're patient with me. – Liv

Olivia didn't have to wait long for a response from him.

I'll be patient with you as long as you're patient with me. – Fitz

Olivia bit her lip and smiled.

Deal! Now mister I must let you go. I have some lessons to plan ;) – Liv

I'll talk to you soon then – Fitz

It was hours later, and Fitz was in dire need for some coffee. Mira was at her friend's house for a playdate and he needed to pick her up soon. His mother was at her book club meeting that she had every Sunday, so he had a quiet afternoon. His mind kept wandering back to the preschool teacher who has captured his heart so quickly.

He loved the little neighborhood he lived in. It was a nice little suburb, and everything was pretty much in walking distance. He was heading into his favorite coffee shop when he noticed a petite woman with a dog on a leash. She seemed preoccupied on her phone, so she hadn't noticed him. He smiled. This day just got even better for him. He walked up right behind her making sure she didn't notice.

"Come here often."

Olivia jumped at the deep voice in her ear. She quickly turned around and saw the man who had been on her mind all day.

"What a way to make your presence known Mr. Grant. Scaring a woman half to death isn't the way to her heart. I know you have been out of the dating game for a while, but I think that would be common sense," Olivia teased him.

Fitz smirked, "Well it seemed like you were too busy on your phone to notice me. Got another guy waiting on you."

Olivia shook her head, "No other man Mr. Grant."

The two of them just stared at each other letting the tension continue to build. Fitz kept looking at her lips wanting to get another taste. He got closer and closer…

BARK!

Josie decided to make her presence known to the two of them. The two of them snapped out of it.

"So, what are you drinking?" Fitz guided them to the line in front of them.

"I'll probably get a vanilla iced latte. I need a little pick me up after spending most of the morning working on my lesson plans. What have you been up to and where is Mira?"

"I spent my morning being teased by this woman who drove me wild last night and worked a case. I'm an attorney. Mira is currently at a friend's house for playdate. Actually, I'm heading there now to pick her up."

Olivia's ears perked up when she heard he was an attorney. Flashes of Edison came to mind. She was put in the backburner to an attorney before and here Fitz was saying he was one was well. She needed to shake herself out of it. Fitz was clearly not like Edison and she wasn't going to put herself in a situation like that again.

Before Olivia could answer, they were at the front of the line.

"Can I get a medium vanilla iced latte and a medium black coffee?" Fitz asked.

Olivia was pulling out her money, but Fitz was quicker and paid for their drinks.

"Fitz, I could have paid for my own drink," Olivia said as they moved to the side to wait.

"It's just coffee and let this be the warmup to our date." Fitz winked.

Olivia giggled and shook her head.

"Order for Fitz!"

Fitz walked over to get their drinks and handed Olivia hers. The duo plus Josie walked outside with coffee in hand. They sat on the patio to drink their coffee and talked for a bit about mindless things. They finished up their coffee and got up to head their separate ways.

"What direction are you heading in?" Fitz hoped they were heading in the same direction. He wanted to spend more time with her, but he knew that it was almost time to pick up Mira.

"I'm heading that way." Olivia pointed to her right.

"Well look at that so am I. Mira's friend lives on Cherry Blossom."

"This really is a small world because I live on the same street."

Fitz couldn't believe his luck. Spending time with her was just what he needed. The duo smiled at each other and started walking in the direction to Olivia's street. Fitz decided to take a leap of faith and grabbed Olivia's hand; intertwining his fingers with hers.

Olivia took a leap of faith of her own and grabbed his face to give him a small peck on his lips. Fitz took this opportunity to pull her in closer by her waist and deepened the kiss. Olivia moaned and slowly pulled away.

She bit her lip and shook her head. He was affecting her so much.

"Let's go pick up Mira," she said as she gave him one more peck on his lips.
