Chapter Ten
Moments earlier…
Olivia had been psyching herself out for the past ten minutes, wondering if she was making the right decision in pursuing this. She was wearing a white sundress and a jean jacket over it. Fitz said that it wasn't anything formal and to dress casual. She still had no idea what they were doing because Fitz wanted to surprise her. She found it endearing that he was putting a lot of thought into their first date. A knock on her bedroom door shook her out of her thoughts.
"Hey Liv! You nervous about this date?" Abby came in and sat on the foot of her bed.
"A little; I mean it's only been eight months since the breakup and what if this ends up being a really bad idea. I'm going in headfirst and I don't know if this will work out for me."
Olivia looks at Abby causing Abby to realize how nervous and scared her best friend is.
"Liv, you'll be fine! Enjoy yourself and from what you have told me, Fitz seems like a great guy and the complete opposite of Edison. What does your gut say about this?"
"My gut says that this is going to change my life and that makes me scared."
Abby got up and hugged Olivia. She let her go but kept her hands on her arms.
"Go with your gut and follow your heart."
Before Olivia could say anything else, the doorbell rang. Abby and Olivia both squealed and laughed at their antics.
"Go get your man."
They walk out of Olivia's room. Abby gives Olivia one last hug and Olivia walks down the stairs to open the door.
"Hi."
"Hi."
Fitz and Olivia both smiled nervously at each other. She noticed the red tulips in his hand.
"These are for you."
Fitz held them out for her. Olivia smiled at his sweet gesture. She couldn't remember the last time she had received flowers.
"Thank you. These are beautiful."
"But not as beautiful as you."
Fitz couldn't stop looking at Olivia. She looked so beautiful to him tonight. She had a certain way about her that made him want to know more.
"I see you are already starting with the cheesy, mister. Come on in and let me put these in a vase before we go."
Fitz followed Olivia into her home and took a look around. He noticed pictures with her friend, Abby as well as pictures with who he assumed are her parents.
"You have a beautiful home."
"Thanks! I can't take all the credit. Abby did a lot of the decorating. She's an interior designer so she has a knack for it."
Olivia was trying to reach the top shelf where the vases was but was struggling to reach it. Fitz went up behind her and grabbed it for her. Olivia turned around to thank him but didn't realize how close he was. There wasn't any space between them causing the tension to grow between them.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
There was a silence between them, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Fitz looked at her lips wanting to take that leap and kiss her, but he knew that had to get going.
"We should get going. I don't want us to be late," Fitz said as he handed her the vase and took a step backwards.
Olivia was feeling a bit disappointed because she did want him to kiss her, but she understood why he didn't.
"You still aren't going to tell me what we are doing, aren't you?"
"Nope. You'll find out in due time, but I will tell you that you might want to pack a swimsuit. Hurry up though, we are on a time crunch."
"Okay let me go upstairs to grab it and we can head out. You can take a seat on the couch. I'll be right back."
Olivia quickly went up the stairs and grabbed her favorite one-piece red swimsuit. It was pretty and it showed off her figure but without giving too much away especially for their first date. She also grabbed a towel, sandals, and white coverup, and a bag to put everything in. She walked downstairs to find Fitz where she left him.
"Okay, I'm ready."
"Let's get going then."
He grabbed her hand and they walked out the door.
Fitz and Olivia settled in his car and he pulled out of her driveway. Olivia's nerves were a bit on overdrive but the minute Fitz grabbed ahold of her hand and smiled, she felt a sense of calm come over her.
"So now that we are here, are you still not going to tell me where we are going?"
"Nope. Can you be a little patient woman?" Fitz teased.
Olivia took a look around her and noticed Mira's car seat in the back; that's when she noticed the picnic basket.
"Well I see a picnic basket in the back, does that mean we are heading somewhere for a picnic?"
Fitz shook his head, "You really are nosey. Yes, we are but that's all you're getting from me. How about we play some music to pass the time?"
Fitz handed Olivia his phone for her to pick whatever she wanted.
"You trust me with your phone already?" Olivia questioned.
"Yeah, I mean I don't have anything to hide from you."
"Okay good to know now let's see what you have in your music selection."
Olivia scrolled through his phone and started laughing.
"Oh my god, Fitz!"
Eric Bellinger's song, Moist started playing in the background.
When the last time you had a hit like this?
When the last time you had a hit like this?
When the last time you had a hit like this?
When the last time you had a hit like this?
When the last time you had a hit like this?
When the last time you had a hit like this? (Yeah, yeah)
When the last time you had a?
I've been meaning to make you moist (woo)
Fiending to make some noise (aye)
Willing to spend the night (yeah)
So it can just be you and me (me)
"Who knew a white boy had some taste in dirty music?!"
Fitz laughed, "Hey don't judge a book by its cover. I am a man with many different tastes."
Olivia laughed and decided to do some more searching. He had interesting taste that was for sure. She came across one of her favorites in his playlist.
Dan and Shay's All to Myself started playing. It was one of Olivia's favorites that she couldn't help herself and she started singing.
I want you all to myself
Let our bodies do the talking
Let our shadows paint the wall
I want you here in my arms
We'll hide away in the dark
Slip your hand in my back pocket
Go and let your long hair fall
I want you all to myself
To myself
Fitz was shocked at her beautiful song and glanced at her while they were at a red light. He smiled at how free she seemed in this moment. Olivia was completely in the moment that she was shocked to hear Fitz singing along with her.
I'm jealous of the song that you've been singing
And the way it's rolling off your lips
It might be selfish but I'm thinking
I don't need nothing between you
Leaning for another kiss, yeah
"Wow, good looking and a great voice. Seems like you're the entire package, Mr. Grant."
"Me?! What about you!? You're great with kids, good looking, and a great voice. It seems like if anyone is the entire package, it's you Ms. Pope."
Olivia blushed at his words. This man was going to be the end of her, she thought.
"Okay enough with my music. Put your phone on and show me what kind of music you got."
Olivia connected her phone and tried to pick a song that would surprise Fitz. She decided on How You Want It by Teyana Taylor.
Tell me what you want (oh)
Tell me what you want (oh)
Tell me what you want (oh)
Tell me what you want (oh)
Tell me what you want (oh)
Tell me what you want
Tell me what you want from me (Hitmaka)
Fitz hadn't heard this song before, but he was getting into the beat. Olivia looked over to him and saw him bopping his head. She knew the lyrics very well and she was waiting until it really got into it
You're my MVP
Tonight, I plan on fucking you to sleep
To, to, to put it deep
Baby, you know I'm a different type of freak (yeah, yeah, yeah)
So what you trynna do to me?
Don't be shy, talk dirty to me
Now take a shot of Hennessy
Fitz eyes widened and he quickly glanced over to Olivia who was trying to hide her smile.
"Are you trying to tell me something, Olivia?"
She quickly shook her head, "Nope just a song in my playlist."
"Whatever you say Ms. Pope. Whatever you say."
Tell me what you want (how you want it?)
Ass up and face down (with the loving)
Baby let me know (when you need it)
Four-course meal, chopped down (when you eat it)
Make me curl my toes (toes)
"Wow Olivia I see what you are trying to say. Is it going to be that kind of date tonight?" Fitz wiggled his eyebrows.
Olivia laughed and shoved him. She covered her hands and couldn't believe this was happening. She decided it was time for a different song to ease the sexual tension that was now more present than ever. She decided to play a country song since it seemed like they both enjoyed it.
I don't know if you were looking at me or not
You probably smile like that all the time
And I don't mean to bother you but
I couldn't just walk by
And not say hi
"Oh, now this is one of my favorites," Fitz said as he started to sing. They were currently at a red light as Fitz turned to face her and started to sing directly to her.
And I don't wanna steal your freedom
I don't wanna change your mind
I don't have to make you love me
I just want to take your time
Olivia smiled and grabbed the hand that hand been on her thigh since they left her house. She decided to join him.
I don't wanna wreck your Friday
I ain't gonna waste my lines
I don't have to take your heart
I just wanna take your time
The two of them just felt so at ease as they continued the drive to their destination. Olivia felt extremely calm now and was finally excited to see where Fitz was going to take her. The time had gone by so quickly that she hadn't noticed that they were in a neighborhood and pulling up to a house.
Now her nerves were back. What was Fitz expecting from her? She shook her head. He had been a gentleman and she knew he wasn't going to push her to something she wasn't comfortable with.
Fitz got out of the car first and went over to her side to open the door. He helped her out and then proceeded to get out the picnic basket out.
"Where are we?" Olivia asked him.
"We're at my family's beach house. There's a history behind it that I'd like to share with you once we are inside."
He grabbed her hand and let her to the front door. He only let go to open the door for them. He allowed her to go in first and he followed.
"Wow, Fitz this is incredible." Olivia said as she looked around the living room. The ceilings were high and to the left were stairs that lead upstairs. There was a fireplace and cream couches. It gave off a homey vibe and she loved it.
"Wait until you see the kitchen. The view from there is amazing. We will be heading out to the backyard so if you want to put on your swimsuit you can. I'm heading upstairs really quickly. I have some swim trunks that I have left here. The bathroom is to your left."
Olivia grabbed her bag and made her way to the bathroom. She was extremely nervous but excited for what's to come. She quickly switched out of her clothes to her bathing suit. She grabbed her white coverup and put on her sandals.
She got out at the same time that Fitz was coming downstairs. He had changed into some baby blue swim trunks and a white t-shirt. Olivia tried not to stare too much at him, but she couldn't help herself. His shirt was clinging on him that she couldn't wait to see what's underneath.
"You ready?"
"Yeah let's go."
Fitz lead her into the kitchen where Olivia was in awe. The kitchen was big and spacious. The windows went from the ceiling to the floor but what really sold her was the view of the beach. You could just walk out and there you were at the beach. She would never want to leave this place after this.
"Wow Fitz, you were right about the view. This is incredible."
He smiled down at her, "I knew you would like it. Come on, I hope you're hungry."
He grabbed a blanket from the closet and the picnic basket. He handed Olivia the blanket so she could hold it while he grabbed a bottle of wine from the wine cellar. They went out into the backyard and Fitz lead her down to the beach. He laid down the blanket and helped her sit down.
"So, I have to be completely honest. I didn't prepare anything in this basket. My mom took control and packed it for us."
Olivia laughed, "I appreciate your honesty very much."
Fitz popped open the bottle of wine and pulled out the glasses he knew his mom packed in there. He proceeded to pull out the containers filled with his mom's famous lemon pepper chicken and rice. She also made some pasta. For dessert, she made them homemade brownies. Fitz looked at the time and they had plenty of time to eat before the sunset.
"Oh my god, Fitz this is amazing! Please give your mom my love because she is a great cook." Olivia said as she began eating. She made it no secret that she loved food which made Fitz happy. He loved a woman who could eat.
"So, you said the house had a story so I'm all ears."
Fitz set his stuff down and took a deep breath.
"My father built this house for my mom. Obviously there has been some redesign to it, but this was his vision. When my parents first started dating, they would constantly come to the beach because this was their spot. It was where they had their first date, their first kiss, and even proposal. My mom loves the water and my dad knew that this was her happy place. Both of them didn't grow up with much but my dad became a doctor and the first thing that he did was start building a house at the very beach they had their first date."
Olivia watched Fitz tell this story and she could tell how much his dad meant to him.
"Every summer we would spend a month here as a family. The summer before he died, I remember the sunsetting and my parents out here just dancing. No music just them swaying back and forth. I was just a kid, but I knew how in love my parents were and in that moment I knew that was something I wanted in my life."
Fitz turned his head to look at Olivia and gave her a small smile.
"I still want that. I didn't have it with Mellie, but I hope to find it one day."
Olivia smiled back and grabbed his hand, "Your parents sound amazing and your dad must have been a great man. I wish I could've met him. Thank you for sharing that story with me and bringing me here."
"He would've liked you and would've told me not to fuck it up with you. I have never brought anyone out here other than Mira not even Mellie. It just didn't feel right but with you it does."
Olivia looked away shyly. She couldn't believe he was real. "I don't know what to say other thank you. It means a lot that you think I'm worth it. How did he die, if you don't mind me asking?"
"You are worth everything. I've come to terms with his death a long time ago, so I don't mind you asking. He was coming back from work one night and he got hit by a drunk driver head-on. There was nothing they could do. My mom was devastated; she had just lost the love of her life and became a single mother, but she always kept it together. She had my sister and I to worry about. She grieved don't get me wrong, but she kept herself strong in front of us."
"I can tell your mom is a strong woman and she is clearly still super mom if she's making all this food for us. She reminds me a bit of my mom."
"What about your parents? Do they live nearby?"
Olivia sighed and looked out into the water. "They passed away when I was in college. They were so in love with each other. They would leave each other sticky notes around the house with little love declarations. My mom would sit on the patio and my dad would always bring her out a glass of wine. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and it was tough."
Fitz held her hand while she explained. She received strength from him to get through this next part.
"The cancer had spread and there wasn't anything they could do. She passed away six months after she was diagnosed. My father became a shell of himself. He was alone for the first time in so long. He passed away from a heart attack two months after my mom did. I believe he died from a broken heart. He couldn't deal with the loss. As hard as it was losing my parents, I know that they are together and happy."
"I'm really sorry you went through that Olivia. Your parents sound like they were amazing people. You're really strong for going through all of that in such a short period of time. If I could I would thank them for raising such an amazing daughter."
"Thank you Fitz. I've come to terms with their death a long time ago but sometimes it hits me that I won't have them around for big moments in my life."
"You'll always have them Olivia. They will always be in your heart and will always be watching over you."
The two of them were quiet for a moment before Olivia said, "Okay enough of the heavy talk for now. Let's enjoy some of this food."
The two of them shared a laugh and continued to eat. The sun was slowly lowering itself. They had just finished dessert and Fitz packed all the containers away. He moved closer to Olivia and Olivia got the hint and decided to cuddle with him. Both of them were just content in each other's arms. Olivia broke the silence.
"My ex cheated on me."
This caused Fitz to look down at her. She looked back at him.
"We were engaged, and it all went down the drain so quickly. His name is Edison and like I told you, he was working towards being partner. One late night I decided to bring him his favorite food for dinner. He was screwing one of his co-workers right on his desk. I broke it off with him right then and there. I moved my stuff out as soon as I could. Abby and I looked at getting a place together and eight months later, here we are."
Fitz held her close and tightened his hold on her. She deserved better than that, he thought.
"He doesn't know what he is missing. He didn't deserve you. He was a little boy in a man's body. I hope I can prove to you that not all men are the same."
Olivia looked up at him, "You already are."
She gave him two pecks on his lips, and he pulled her in closer. He didn't want to get carried away, but he couldn't help himself. He pulled her onto his lap as they continued to make out. They slowly pulled away from each other and placed their foreheads against each other.
"Please don't break my heart," Olivia said.
"As long as you promise not to break mine."
He placed a kiss on her forehead and the two of them watched as the sun started to set.
"Wow this sunset is incredible. Thank you for bringing me here."
"I knew that you would appreciate this. Want to go for a swim?"
"Right now?"
"Yeah! We both have our swimsuits on so might as well before the sun completely goes down."
Fitz pulled them up to their feet and he took off his shirt. Olivia couldn't help but check out his body. He had a bit of chest hair and a six pack that she just wanted to run her fingers up and down on. Fitz smirked as he looked over Olivia's way and noticed her staring.
"See something you like?" he teased her.
"Maybe," she said giving him a smirk.
Olivia decided to give him a show of her own. She took off the white coverup to reveal her red swimsuit. Even though it was a one-piece swimsuit, it had an open cut out in the middle, revealing her stomach and gave her a nice lift for her breasts. She saw Fitz checking her out and she decided to tease him back.
"See something you like?"
"I definitely do."
Before Fitz could reach out to pull her into him, she took off running to the water. She was giggling as she ran but she wasn't fast enough to get away from Fitz. He quickly picked her up and took her straight into the water with him.
They both laughed and started slashing each other with the water. For the first time in a long time both of them just let go and had fun. They weren't worried about what would happen tomorrow or what the future might bring; they were just focused on each other and this moment.
It was thirty minutes later and the two of them had walked back into the house. Fitz grabbed a couple of towels from the closet and handed one to Olivia. It had gotten a bit cold and decided to come back inside.
"I'm going to get the fireplace going and then head up to shower. You can use this bathroom down here. I hope you find everything to your liking. Let me know if you need anything."
"I'll be fine. You go shower." Olivia gave him a peck on the lips and shoved him to go upstairs.
Olivia and Fitz quickly showered and got dressed. They met each other back in the living room where Fitz had already started the fire. Olivia's hair was in its natural curls and Fitz loved how she was glowing right now. He had set up another blanket for the two of them as well as a couple of pillows for them to get comfortable. He sat down first and helped her down. They held each other close and enjoyed the comfortable silence between them.
"This has to be the best date I have ever been on. You put so much thought into it and you brought me to a place that means so much to you. I'm happy that I said yes."
"I'm happy you said yes too. I haven't dated in so long that I was completely unsure of what to do but I'm glad I brought you here."
The sexual tension between the two of them was building as each minute passed. They glanced at each other and slowly got closer and closer. The minute their lips met; it was over. Fitz had one hand on her neck and the other on her waist. He was trying to be respectful towards her boundaries and didn't want to put his hands anywhere just yet.
Olivia moaned and tugged on his curls. With every kiss they had, she lost herself more and more in him. She wanted to get closer to him, so she took the initiative to straddle his lap. He placed both of his hands on her hips causing her dress to scrunch up. He was feeling more and more of her skin.
Fitz wanted to take some control and started placing kisses along her neck causing her to tilt her head back. She rocked her hips into him, and he groaned. He was getting hard and he needed to put a stop to this before they went too far but he was feeling desperate for her. She kept rocking into his erection and at this moment he just wanted to be buried deep inside her.
"Olivia, we need to stop," he says as he stops her hips from moving.
Olivia was panting and flushed from what just happened. She was trying to catch her breath, but she wanted this, she wanted him.
"We don't need to stop."
"I don't want us to rush into anything and I want you to be sure this is what you want."
Olivia gave him a small smile. He was always thinking about what she felt comfortable with and she appreciated it but now she was so turned on that she knew that she wanted this and nothing else.
"I'm sure."
Fitz looked into her eyes to see if he saw any hesitation. When he didn't, he pulled them up from the floor and lead them up the stairs. This moment was going to change everything.
AN: That ending though lol...I hope their date was worth the wait! I appreciate all the love and support. Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
XOXO
