Chapter Seventeen
After her last student was picked up, Olivia quickly gathered her things and got into her car. She had plenty of time to go to Mellie's hotel and get back home before Fitz knew what she was up to. He didn't need to know about this information just yet. She wanted to take care of the situation for him and Mira. Yesterday was a big wakeup call for her. There was no way Mellie was going to get near Mira ever again.
She pulled into the parking lot of the hotel that Mellie was staying at and grabbed the documents and her purse. Olivia quickly sent Fitz a text letting him know that they were still on for dinner at her place and put her phone away. She quickly made her way to the elevator and pressed the button to take her to the fourteenth floor where Mellie's room was.
"Room 1403," Olivia said to herself as she walked through the hallway to find the room. She found the room and was standing right in front of the door. She took a deep breath and knocked. Mellie opened the door and was shocked to see Fitz's girlfriend in front of her.
"Can I come in Mellie?" Olivia asked with an envelope in hand.
Mellie was conflicted but she figured that this could be a good move for her maybe she could get rid of this girlfriend to make room for her.
"Fine come in."
Olivia walked into the room and looked around. It was a big room and looked out to the downtown area. She felt really nervous especially since Fitz didn't know what she was doing. She pushed those nerves aside and put her game face on.
"What can I help you with and how did you find me?" Mellie sat on the couch and watched Olivia as she looked around the room.
"Don't worry about how I found you but worried about what I found out about you." Olivia sat on the other couch. She pulled out the documents and pictures that Huck had given her.
Mellie's heart started to race wondering what Olivia could have found out about her. She made sure that it didn't show though and kept a straight face.
"What are you talking about?"
"Well where do I start? Should I start with the bribery or the affair?"
Mellie knew she was fucked but she wasn't going to let this woman have the upper hand.
"Listen here Olivia I don't know what you think you have on me but be mindful that I could find dirt of my own on you."
Olivia smirked, "Go ahead and see what you can find but there's nothing that will compare to this."
She laid down the documents on the table. Mellie quickly picked them up. She saw documents of where money was transferred from her mother's account to judges that Mellie had been in front of. She saw pictures of her and the guy she was having an affair with. She was boiling on the inside. She couldn't believe that this was coming to light.
"Go ahead and take those. Those are your copies and I have my own copies so if you think that ripping or shredding them will make them go away well you're sadly mistaken. Imagine once Fitz finds out all this information and he takes it to the judge. You'll not only lose your case but you'll never practice law ever again."
Mellie knew that she couldn't do anything. Not even her mother could fix the situation she was in. Losing her career wouldn't be worth seeing her daughter plus she just needed that boost but she will find another way.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to drop the suit and go home. Fitz doesn't need you and Mira really doesn't need a mother who only comes and goes when it suits her. Call your attorney right now and end this."
"Fine, I'll do it now go." Mellie raised her voice and pointed to the door. She wanted her out and she wanted it now!
"No, I'm not leaving until you call your attorney so I know that you've done what you said you would."
Olivia folded her arms and gave her a look that meant she was serious. She wasn't leaving. She wanted to make sure this was going to be over with. Mellie grabbed her phone and dialed her attorney.
"Mark, it's Mellie. I'm calling you to let you know I'm going to drop the suit."
There was a pause and then she responded, "I just feel like I shouldn't be pursuing this. It's better to leave things the way they are. Please drop it immediately…yes thank you. Goodbye."
She hung up the phone and went to the door to open it.
"There it's done now you can leave."
Olivia grabbed her purse and stood in front of Mellie.
"Now that's what you do when you want to protect your family something you'll never know. Goodbye Mellie."
Olivia didn't wait for her to respond and just walked down the hallway with her head held high knowing that she did the right thing.
An hour later Olivia pulled up to her driveway with two boxes of pizza. She figured after the day that both her and Fitz had, they needed something simple and easy for dinner. Fitz had texted her letting her know that he would be over in thirty minutes which was plenty of time for her to get changed out of her work clothes.
"Hey Liv. How did everything go?" Abby asked when she came down the stairs. Abby was the only one who knew about what she was up to.
"I got her to back off. She's going back to New York soon enough. I hope that this is the last time I ever have to deal with her," Olivia said as she set her things down on the counter.
"You went all mama bear on her and I love it! She got what she deserved."
"I just hope that Fitz doesn't get mad at me for handling this. I know he would've wanted to come with me but this was something I needed to do alone."
"He won't be mad. In fact I'm sure he will be very appreciative," Abby said as she smirked and wiggled her eyebrows at Olivia.
"Shut up. I'm going upstairs to change. Can you let them in when they arrive?"
"Yeah I'll let them in."
Olivia quickly went up the stairs to her room to put on some leggings and a t-shirt. She felt like a weight had been lifted after the talk with Mellie. She just hoped that she would stay true to her word and not come back. She heard the front door open so she quickly washed up and went downstairs.
"Mommy!" Mira ran to Olivia who quickly picked her up.
"Hey sweet pea. I missed you."
"I missed you too." Mira laid her head on Liv's shoulder.
"Hey babe. I got some news from Harrison which we will talk about when we get her busy." Fitz walked over and gave her a quick peck on the lips.
"We can set eat in the living room where she can watch TV while we talk. I bought some pizza. I figured we needed something quick and easy tonight."
Fitz went into the kitchen while Olivia who still was carrying Mira went into the living room. She set her down and put on Moana so Mira can be distracted. She seemed to be doing a lot better than the day before and she was glad.
Fitz walked in with plates and the box of pizza. He set down on the coffee table. Olivia got up to bring Josie back inside who then sat down right next to Mira. It seemed like Josie sensed that Mira needed some extra love today. Once everyone was settled, Fitz looked over to Olivia who looked deep in thought.
"Penny for your thoughts?" he asked.
"I have something to tell you but I feel like you need to tell me what Harrison said before then," she said as she looked over to him.
Fitz sighed, "he said that Mellie dropped the suit. I don't know why she did when she was so adamant that she was going to see Mira. She basically played tug of war for no reason and traumatized Mira for no reason. I'm still confused about it all and I don't know if I should let my guard down."
Olivia set her plate down and turned over to him.
"I saw Mellie today."
"You did what?!"
"Before you say anything we should move to the kitchen while she is distracted so you can calm down."
Olivia grabbed his hand and led them into the kitchen.
"I saw Mellie because I had someone find information about her."
"What do you mean information? What kind of information?"
"Information that could get her to go away. I have a friend named Huck who is able to hack into anything and everything. He is able to find out so much information about people so I called him up. He gave me documents of what Mellie has been up to."
"Why didn't you tell me and what did he find?"
"I didn't tell you because I wanted to handle this alone. You had Mira to worry about and I was protecting my family. He found out Mellie was having an affair with the married partner at her firm. Not only that but her mother has been bribing judges to make it seem like Mellie was winning more cases than she should've been. She could be disbarred if this came out."
Fitz was shocked about what his ex-wife had been up to all these years. While he was taking care of Mira every single day, she was doing illegal things and having an affair. He couldn't believe it.
"What happened next?"
"I went to her with this information and told her if she didn't drop the suit that I would leak all this information. Obviously her career would be over and when she realized that she called her lawyer and dropped the suit so she did. Please don't be mad that I didn't include you in this."
Fitz didn't know what to say but he wasn't mad. He just couldn't believe that Olivia did all of this for him. He finally had a partner that he could trust and love. Instead of saying anything, he pulled her into a passionate kiss.
Olivia kissed him right back with the same passion. He pulled her in closer to him but Olivia knew that they couldn't go further than a passionate kiss considering Mira was in the other room. She pulled away causing Fitz to groan. He gave her two more pecks on the lips before he looked at her.
"I love you so much. Thank you for doing this and putting yourself on the line."
He tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear.
"I love you too and I would do it all over again. You and Mira are my family and I'll do anything and everything to protect you guys."
Fitz felt overwhelmed not only from what Olivia did but from the past couple of days and now it was over. He never would have to deal with Mellie ever again and all because Olivia took matters into her own hands. He will forever be grateful that she came into his life.
He pulled her into a hug and the two of them stayed there for a minute. Just breathing each other in for a moment. They felt that a weight has been lifted and can focus on their little family.
"Mommy, daddy. What are you doing?" Mira had walked into the kitchen because she wanted to know where her parents were.
"Just giving each other a hug. Why don't you come here sweet pea?" Olivia pulled away from Fitz and opened her arms for Mira. She accepted the invitation and ran into Olivia's arms. She picked her up and Fitz pulled in his girls for a group hug. In that moment Fitz decided that he wanted to take the next step with Olivia. He just hoped that she would agree.
