Chapter Twenty-Seven

Two months later – July

"Babe you're not supposed to be in here while the paint is drying," Fitz said coming up behind Olivia who was currently in the new nursery.

"I just wanted to see the final product," Liv said leaning back in Fitz's arms.

The painters had officially finished the room this morning and Olivia was too impatient to wait for the paint to dry to see the final product. They had decided on a light blue and grey color scheme. The walls were painted a beautiful light blue with life-like clouds painted on the ceiling. She couldn't wait to get the all the furniture in the room.

"It feels so surreal. In about a month we will be bringing our baby boy home," Fitz said.

"This pregnancy flew by and while I can't wait to have him in our arms, I am going to miss being pregnant."

"Well we can always work on baby number three the minute we can," he said jokingly.

Olivia gave him a look, "you're insane! Let's just enjoy our baby boy and then we can discuss baby number three. Speaking of babies, where is baby number one?"

"Mira is currently downstairs playing show and tell with Josie," he laughed thinking about the sight that he saw.

Olivia laughed, "let me go downstairs and join them in the party."

"Yes let's get out of this room. What do you want for lunch?"

"Can you make some chicken quesadillas? Oh and can you also make that special sauce please?" she asked.

Fitz laughed, "anything for you babe."

When they finally made it downstairs, they saw that Mira had fallen asleep on the couch with Josie right next to her. They decided to let her sleep while Fitz fixed up lunch. An hour later the trio was eating lunch when the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," Fitz said and went to the door to find Abby and Stephen.

"Hey guys! I didn't know that you guys were coming over. Come on in," he said opening the door wider to let them in.

"Hey. Sorry just dropping in but I really need to talk to Olivia about something," Abby said.

Stephen shrugged and smiled.

"She's in the dining room. We are finishing up lunch."

"Thanks!" Abby said and made her way to the dining room. The guys followed right after her.

"Hey Abbs! What are you doing here?!"

"Auntie Abby!" Mira excitingly said.

"Hey guys! We were just in the neighborhood and decided to stop by," Abby said with a sly smile.

"Really? Is that all?" Olivia asked knowing her friend wouldn't just stop by without notice.

"Well…we just got engaged!" Abby said lifting her hand up to show the engagement ring.

"Oh my god!" Olivia slowly got up from her chair to hug her friend.

"It just happened this morning!"

"Congrats guys!" Fitz said giving a hug to Abby and then to his friend.

"We have so much to celebrate! Fitz get the ice cream please."

"Yay! Ice cream!" Mira jumped up and down.

Fitz got the ice cream out of the freezer while Olivia got the toppings out from the pantry. They spent the afternoon talking to Stephen and Abby about the details of their engagement. Olivia couldn't believe her friend was engaged. They will both be getting married and she was excited for both of them.

"Oh now that I'm here we need to discuss the last details for the baby shower. We only have one more week and I wanted to make sure that we got everything we need," Abby said pulling out her phone.

For the past month Abby had been planning the baby shower for Olivia. It was the least she could do for her friend to take away some stress from her. Between preparing for baby Mason and wedding planning, she knew Olivia didn't have time to plan a baby shower.

"Abby you know that this doesn't have to be a big thing."

"Of course it does! This is my nephew. Plus I just wanted to make sure you were okay with the decision I made for the cake and the party favors," Abby gave Liv her phone so she can look over the pictures she had taken.

"These look fantastic Abby. You've done an amazing job with this," Liv said as she scrolled through the pictures.

"I'm so glad you think so!"

The two of them continued their discussion about the baby shower while the guys took Mira outside to play. It was an eventful afternoon in the Grant house and they wouldn't want it any other way.

One week later

The baby shower was in full swing at the Grant house. Abby, Katherine, and Charlie had arrived early in the morning to set up for the afternoon party. They had invited teachers who were friends of Olivia's as well as some of Fitz's coworkers. Olivia wanted to make sure the baby shower was inclusive. Mira was able to invite three of her friends over so she would have people to play with.

Abby had picked out a beautiful blue, grey, and white color scheme which turned out beautifully. There was a balloon arch with a camera set up for people to take pictures and a table that was specifically for gifts. It was completely full which made Olivia smile. Her baby boy was going to be born into an amazing family. Olivia continued

"Hey Liv. How are you feeling?" Abby said as she sat down next to Olivia who decided it was time for a small break from being on her feet.

"I'm feeling wonderful. I can't thank you enough for putting all of this together," Liv said as she was getting emotional.

"That's what best friends do. It's what family does," she wrapped her arms around Liv.

"I'm so happy I can call you family. Our lives have changed so much but I'm thankful that we have stuck together no matter what."

"Okay stop getting me emotional! Let's go take some pictures," she grabbed Liv's hand to help her up from her chair.

The two of them walked over the balloon arch and set the camera timer on. Soon after they started Mira decided to join in. Abby picked her up and they took silly pictures. Olivia laughed at the silliness.

After pictures were taken it was time to open some gifts. Olivia and Fitz took seats in front of the table while everyone gathered around. Gifts ranged from clothes to diapers and everything in between but the best gift came from Katherine.

"Okay there is one more gift," Katherine announced to everyone.

"Mom you didn't have to give us anything," Fitz said.

"Yes I did. This is my grandchild so of course I'm going to give you something. Abby and Charlie already brought it out from the garage so just turn around and you'll see it."

Liv and Fitz were confused and didn't know what to expect so they turned around and saw a beautiful white rocking chair. It was clearly a bit old but definitely taken care of.

"Mom is this what I think it is?" Fitz asked.

"You mean your old rocking chair. Why yes it is! I had it taken out of storage. This was the rocking chair that was in your own nursey. I did get it cleaned up and ready for you guys. I figured this chair will get better use with you guys than in storage," she said smiling at the duo.

"Katherine, it's beautiful. Thank you so much for this," Liv said and she slowly got up to give her a hug.

"You don't need to thank me for anything. I'm happy to give it to you guys," she wrapped her arms tightly around her.

An hour later everyone had already left leaving with the family to clean up. Luckily the backyard wasn't too much of a mess. Abby and Charlie piled all the gifts into the nursery while Fitz and Stephen carefully brought up the rocking chair.

Olivia and Mira were sitting on the couch cuddled together watching everyone else clean up. Fitz didn't want her to be lifting a finger and for once she was happy about it. She was exhausted from today's activities and she was ready to soak in the tub. It was the only thing that helped the aches and pains she was constantly feeling this third trimester.

"Mommy when is my brother coming?" Mira asked.

"Well hopefully soon because he is not fitting in my tummy much longer," she said as she rubbed her belly.

"Good because I want to see him," she continued to rub Liv's belly.

"Me too sweet pea. He is going to have the best big sister in the world."

"Really?"

"Yes! You're so sweet, kind, and lovable. He is so lucky. You'll be able to show him how to color –"

"Oh I love coloring!" Mira said interrupting Liv.

"I know you do! And you'll show him how to read and play. But most importantly you'll love him so much."

"Yeah I will! I love him so much!"

"I know you do sweet pea and he loves you too."

She smiled widely at Olivia's words.

"Okay Liv, we are heading out. The company for the chairs and tables will be here tomorrow morning but we already set it up for it to be a quick pick up," Abby said.

"Thank you guys so much for all of this. From the party to the cleanup, I don't know what I would do without you guys," Liv said giving them a smile.

"Don't mention it! Now you get some rest. Call me tomorrow so I can help with the nursery."

Fitz walked them out the door and said the final goodbyes. He closed the door then made his way back to the couch to spend some cuddle time with his family. This day was overwhelming in the best way and he felt extremely blessed that his family was surrounded by so much love.

"Did you have a good time Liv?" he asked.

She sighed, "the best time. I just felt so loved and Mason is going to be born into such a supportive family. I don't think I could have asked for anything better."

"I'm so happy Liv. It's what you deserve babe and it seems like you weren't the only one who had a good time," he said pointing to a sleeping Mira.

They laughed quietly at her little snores. She clearly was exhausted from all the festivities.

"Come on. Let me get her to bed and let's get you in a nice warm bath."

"That sounds wonderful."

The two of them tucked Mira into bed before they made their way into their bedroom. Olivia got undressed while Fitz got the bath ready for her. He put in the lavender salts that she has been liking so much and also lit some candles to set the mood.

"Here you go Livvie. Let me know if you need anything else," he gave her a kiss on her forehead and rubbed her belly. As he was getting to leave, she grabbed his hand and smiled.

"Join me?" she asked.

"Of course," he said. He started to get undressed to join her in the tub. Olivia carefully got into the tub and left enough space for Fitz to get behind her. He quickly followed her and got comfortable before she laid back against him. After the full day they had, it felt good for both of them to have this moment together. They rubbed her belly together, feeling their baby boy move around. They only had a month left and they couldn't be more excited.

"Who do you think he will look like?" Liv asked out of nowhere.

"Well I hope he has your beautiful brown eyes and definitely your smile."

"He can't have my eyes. I want him to have yours. Your beautiful blue eyes and grin that made me fall in love with you," she responded.

"If he has my eyes then he has to have your kind heart. Your beautiful and kind heart made me believe that true love really did exist. Because of your open heart, you accepted Mira as your own and I can't wait until we get married for us to share the same last name."

Olivia could feel herself getting emotional, "Fitz, I hate you. I've done enough crying today. But if we are giving each other compliments, I just want to say that I couldn't ask for a better partner and father in this. You and Mira are everything. I've actually been meaning to ask you something."

He could feel her getting nervous about what she was about to ask.

"You can ask me anything. You know that."

"I want to adopt Mira. Mellie doesn't even have any parental rights and I feel like Mira is my own. I want to make it official but if you don't want that –"

"I'm going to stop you right there. Look at me please."

She turned her head around to look at him. His eyes were filled with tears causing hers to do the same.

"I would love nothing more than to make that official. We can contact Harrison and start the process. It doesn't matter that she isn't biologically yours; you will always be her mom no matter what."

"God I love you so much. Thank you for giving me a family."

"Thank YOU for coming into mine. Forever and always."

"Forever and always, Fitz."

"Oh god looking at all these baby clothes has my baby fever on its peak!" Abby said as she put things away.

She had arrived that afternoon to help Olivia organize the nursery. Fitz and Stephen had put in all the furniture in before the girls started to decorate and put things away.

"Abby Whelan wants a baby?!" Olivia looked over at her friend.

"Yeah maybe I want one of my own. I mean not any time soon but in the future. I'm enjoying my time with Stephen and eventually we will get to that point. I like being Auntie Abby for now," she said smiling at her.

"Well I think you'll be a great mom whenever you decide for that to happen."

"Thank Liv. That means a lot coming from you."

"Mommy! I found the teddy!" Mira came into the room.

"Thank you sweet pea. Can you put it on the rocking chair for me?"

"Yes I can!" she said and placed the teddy bear gently in the chair.

Olivia and Abby continued to fold the clothes while Mira helped with the stuffed animals and books. The room was coming together beautifully. The blue and grey color scheme gave the room such a warm vibe which is what she wanted for her son. It was a room that he would grow up in so she wanted to make sure that it would work when he got older.

"Wow this room looks amazing," Fitz said coming back into the room two hours later. The guys were grilling out in the back for their late lunch and he was sent to get the girls.

"Doesn't it?! I'm so happy how it turned out. I think Mason is going to love it," Liv said smiling brightly up at him.

"I think he will too. Now come on, let's get all of you guys something to eat."

Olivia, Abby and Mira left the room leaving Fitz to enjoy a bit of silence. He looked around the room and could picture little moments that would be happening pretty soon from Liv sitting in the rocking chair to Mira reading to Mason. He couldn't wait until his son arrived. He looked up and closed his eyes.

"Thank you dad."
