"Ooohhh, things just got interesting!" Sirius laughed and Remus looked at him as of he was confunded.
"Just got interesting? We broke 10 laws, nearly the statute of secrecy, embarrassed Lucius Malfoy, tricked a teacher, used an invisibility cloak to sneak in not paying, you-know-who probably wants to kill us and we almost got ourselves in Azkaban but now things just got interesting? ! You're insane. It's clear." Remus' voice got higher and higher, as if he was singing opera.
"Hello Lily," squeaked Wormtail.
"Hey Peter," she replied and was momentarily distracted but the frown never left her face, " Anyway," she turned back to James, "you're in my seat." James made no attempt to move.
"Oh I heard you the first time lily, but ermmm your seats taken. The only way you're sitting on this seat is if you sit on me." he said coolly.
"No way!" Lily said insolently, her face going as bright as her hair, "I paid for this seat and I will sit in it!" she attempted to push James off but he twisted her arms so that she was forced to sit on his lap or face a dislocated shoulder; though it looked like she was seriously considering it just to get away from James. "I'll tell the assistant about you" Lily hissed, hoping that James would let her go, move out the seat and preferably move to Australia, as far away from her as possible.
That didn't happen.
"You know, I wouldn't do that if I were you," James whispered in her ear.
"Why?" Lily asked, intrigued: James always had a sharp comeback.
"Because of this" he whispered, grabbing her cinema ticket and shredded it, along with her hope. if she accused James of sneaking in here not paying, the Malfoys (who if you listened very carefully were still arguing outside) wouldn't be the only ones to be kicked out.
"You…" she hissed, looking as if she was going to kill him," son of a…urugghhg gun!"
"Don't worry" James whispered in her ear so that only lily could hear, " if you dont like the next two hours I swear ill stop talking to you forever". he leaned back and seemed to be watching the previews on the screen but he watched Lily through the corner of his eye, not that she noticed it. Lily was confused: she had gotten used to James and his remarks and really couldn't imagine a world without it. The rest of the world, just saw this as her usual up tightness that always seemed to come out only when the marauders were around.
"Chill out, Evans," Sirius said, leaning forward to make eye contact with her, "we can move up." he shoved Peter so that he had to go and move forward to the next row, at which Remus frowned at them for but he didn't follow him. Remus switched seats with Sirius and James loosened Lily's arm but unless she wanted to be gulping skele-gro for the next few weeks, she had to sit in between the marauders.
Her worst nightmare.
Unsurprisingly, Lily wasn't exactly in the best mood when the movie finally started, swearing at Sirius every time he tried to chat her up and even more at James when he such as looked at her (Remus was actually quite nice, passing her chocolate every few minutes and apologising profusely about the situation).Despite the horrible start, Lily loosened up more and more as the movie went on and even stopped swearing. An hour into the film, the music crescendoed, at a moment of nearly no return, Lily suddenly grabbed James's hand as she nearly jumped out her seat. It was another ten minutes before she noticed it but she found she rather liked it and left it like that. When the lights came back on and the movie ended, she snatched her hand back and snapped back into her usual hating-James self, as if the spell had broken and nothing had ever happened. As they left the cinema, both Peter-he was still sour because of the whole seat incident- and Lily were not talking to the marauders. Outside, Narcissa and Lucius were still yelling even though it had been two hours since they started. the marauders and Lily gently backed away, in case their fury turned on them. After a few minutes, they heard the Malfoys running into a dark stairwell and after that the sound of some very furious duelling,
"Someone's not gonna get some tonight" Sirius muttered before Remus elbowed him, looking at lily as he couldn't imagine talking about such indecency in front of a lady.
"How about we go get some food? Maybe some drinks?" James suggested, looking at Lily nervously.
"You know what James," she replied, face going as bright as her hair but with anger this time, "I'm good. I've actually got to get back to school before Dumbledore worries about us and sends a search party for us and if you knew what was good for you, you'd come with me. You're head boy but you act like an idiot, you're seventh year but the first years are more mature than you and you act as if you're my boyfriend when we all know I'd rather die than date you!" she spat, the fury evident in her bright green eyes. She turned to leave and Remus, Peter and Sirius turned to go to burger king but James hung back.
"I'll see you in a minute, guys OK? I've gotta fix this. I can't lose her. Not yet" He ran after her and grabbed her hand and she turned but as soon as she saw it was James she scoffed and turned to leave.
"Wait, please," James pleaded. Lily looked at him as if he was insane.
"Wait? Why would I wait for an selfish bully like you? i hated the two hours, now you leave me alone" she scoffed, arms crossed.
"Lily," James said, "I'm different you know that. What about earlier?"
"Earlier? That was nothing!" she replied.
"You can't keep saying that it's nothing because it's not! Maybe it was a few years ago but it's changed Lily. I've changed." he moved closer to her, taking her hand until lily thought her heart couldn't be any faster.
"You bullied me James." she said, tears in her eyes.
"I know, I know, I'm so so sorry. Just answer this question." he answered, brushing the hair out of her face and moving closer.
"What?" Lily replied, ducking her head, trying to ignore the constant voice in her head that kept urging her to kiss him.
"Did you like the movie? I'm not talking about the two hours or the fact that you had to spend it with me. just the movie. " he asked, almost pleading.
"Well, its star wars, not exactly classic girl stuff." lily replied, determined to find a way to keep James without him knowing.
"Well, you're not a classic girl. did you like it?" he inched ever forward, until they were only a few centimetres apart.
"I-i liked it" Lily said, stuttering as she had never been so close to James before.
"Told you so" he said and kissed her.
Lily didn't know what to think; it was new, it was exciting, but was it right? Whether it was or not lily liked it and after she had told her brain to shut it, she kissed him back. It was the best thing in the world. When they finally broke apart, smiling like the sun, they walked along hand in hand to a little restaurant where they laughed, ate and drank. They drank a lot. Ordering the third bottle of wine was the last thing lily remembered.
