Weasley Assemble

Ginny Weasley always thought that she was lucky: she was the only girl in her family, so her parents always doted on her, and because she was the youngest, she always got what she wanted — most of the time. One of the things that she wished to do more than anything was to learn how to fly, but her parents always said that she was too young to be flying with her brothers.

Ginny always thought that it was unfair, since Ron was just a year older than her and could fly with their brothers, but just because Ginny was a girl, she couldn't do the same things. She asked her father over and over, but he never said that she could go and fly with her brothers… but thinking about it, he never said that she couldn't go flying. And that's how she came up with her insane plan.

"Please, Bill, you're my favourite! I know you can help me!" Ginny whined to her older brother, trying to make him see from her point of view. "Don't you want your little sister to be the best flier in the whole world?"

"First off, I know that I'm not your favourite, because you say that to everyone," Bill said, laughing at the face that Ginny made. "Second, I know for a fact that Mum and Dad never said anything about you flying, and I don't want to be grounded; third… I don't think I need a third."

"Bill, please! I just want to learn how to fly!" Ginny said, almost crying. She envied her brothers on their brooms, flying high and being free like birds.

"Oy, what's happening here? Why is Gin-Gin almost crying? What have you done to her, Bill?" Fred asked, entering the living room with George behind him.

"You told her a joke so lame that she couldn't help but cry?" George said, coming towards Ginny. "Don't worry, Gin, we're here to help you, and in no time at all, you'll be smiling again."

Ginny couldn't help but laugh a little at the twins' antics, even if Bill rolled his eyes. It was then that it was like a Lumos was cast in Ginny's head, and she decided she was going to ask the twins for help. She knew that Bill wasn't going to help her since he was preparing for his last year at Hogwarts, even if he tried to say that it was because Mum and Dad never said that she could.

"Uh, guys? Maybe you can help me? You two know you're my favourites, right?" Ginny said, smiling like a loon and batting her eyelashes at the twins, which made Bill roll his eyes.

"Nice try, but we heard you saying that to Bill too," Fred said with a grin, to which Ginny just groaned.

"But we know we're everyone's favourites!" George said, smiling wider. "What do you want our help with?"

"I want to learn how to fly! You can help me with that, right?" Ginny knew that if she begged now, the twins would never let her forget it, but she was desperate. "Pleeeease, pretty please, with a cherry on top?"

"Merlin, Gin, I didn't know you wanted to learn how to fly so bad," Bill said, scratching his neck, looking at his brothers for help. "I think this calls for a Weasley Assemble!"

"We'll get Charlie, Percy and Ron!" the twins yelled in unison, bolting from the room, leaving Ginny more confused than ever.

"What's a Weasley assemble?" she asked, trying to understand what her brothers meant.

"Something you'll learn soon enough," Bill replied with an enigmatic smile. "Come on, let's go to the orchard, the others will meet us there."

Ginny tried to wrap her mind around what was happening, but she decided not to think too much about it, not if it meant that she was going to learn how to fly. And in reality, that was all that really mattered to her.

"Okay, Gin, it's going to be crazy for a while, but this is the way that everyone learnt how to fly, and you know that we all were very successful," Charlie said, his chest swelling with pride, which made the twins snicker behind his back. "I don't know what you guys think is funny."

"You're so sweet, Charlie, but we are here to help Gin-Gin, not for you to make us laugh," George said, trying not to laugh.

"Guys, focus!" Bill called for everyone's attention. "We all know how to fly, so we all can help Ginny. Who wants to go first?"

"The first thing you need to learn is how to balance on the broom," Percy said in the matter-of-fact tone that he always used. "Since you don't have a broom of your own yet, you can use mine and practise."

"Thank you, Perce," Ginny said, touched that her brother was doing something nice for her. "So, I just mount the broom?"

"Since you aren't hovering yet, yes. You need to get used to the feel of the handle and everything before you can lift off, okay?" Bill said patiently, explaining everything.

Ginny nodded and mounted the broom, holding the handle like it was a lifeline — and if she was going to hover in the air, it would be. She felt a warm sensation inside her, a happiness that she never knew she would feel someday; it was not just because she was learning how to fly, but also because her brothers were helping her together.

"Now, very slowly… push off the ground, and try to hover a little," Bill instructed in that same patient voice, holding the handle of the broom, while Ginny did what he said - though she didn't lift off the ground. "That's good, Ginny, keep going."

"Just a little more force, Gin-Gin, and then you're going to fly," Fred said, standing beside her. "Look at me and Georgie."

Fred and George mounted their brooms and showed their sister how she should push off from the ground to hover just a little; Ginny nodded at them, and taking a deep breath in, she pushed a little harder, and soon, she was hovering two feet off the ground.

"You're doing good, Ginny, keep going!" Ron said from her side, giving her a thumbs-up that made her smile widely.

"I did it! I'm flying!" Ginny yelled, overjoyed at seeing that she was off the ground and finally flying.

"Yeah, Ginny, you did it!" Charlie said, mounting his own broom and flying higher, and Fred and George soon followed him.

"Do you think that someday I could fly as high as them, Bill?" Ginny asked, looking down at her older brother.

"If you keep on practising, I'm sure you'll be better than us in no time at all," Bill said, chuckling at the look of hope and delight on his sister's face. "Now, let's practise a little more."

Ginny smiled and tried to keep the broom steady without her brother's assistance, anxious to become an expert flier soon. Who knew, maybe in the future, the Weasley family could be the second Quidditch team composed of a family. They could be the next Wigtown Wanderers!
