DM When A Sibling Is Very Ill Chapter 1
Gru wasn't happy. He kept saying ''Oh Boy''. Hard times had fallen in his house. His oldest daughter Margo was not very well! Her nose wasn't running her body wasn't shaking uncontrollably like the time when she had hypothermia [Margo had left the house into the deep without telling anyone where she was going], but Margo was still unwell.
She always seemed to be having fevers and having to stay home from school, ever since she has started complaining that her legs were aching. Then one evening, Gru noticed Margo was covered in rashes. They were up her arms, down her legs, all over her stomach and back, everywhere!
Gru couldn't really understand what was happening with his daughter. Before she was ill she had been as well as her two younger sisters Edith and Agnes They would often ask Gru ''What's wrong with Margo?'' and Gru would say that he had no idea. It wasn't any easier for his wife Lucy either.
Nowadays Margo was no longer going to school and was spending all the time in bed. Gru had even lent the book "One Sick Unicorn" which he had read when Agnes had the chickenpox. Margo could even read in her father's voice!. Agnes had a good laugh with this and even Edith couldn't help crack a smile.
One day, Lucy took Margo to the doctor's clinic to have a blood test. ''Hello Margo, I hear you've come for a blood test with us today'' said the doctor. ''Yeah'' Margo admitted.
''Take off your jacket please Margo, I'm gonna rub some special cream into your skin so it won't hurt too badly when I put the needle in''.
Margo sat down and removed her jacket. The doctor rubbed the cream into her skin and stuck the injection into Margo's arm and drawled a bit of her blood which stung for a second. ''All done Margo, well done for being such a brave girl!'' the doctor told her afterwards.
''Yeah, it did hurt a little bit.'' Margo said. ''Yeah, but that was really brave, my baby.'' Lucy smiled. ''See this blood I took out of your arm Margo?'' the doctor said showing her the blood in a little tube, ''Yeah?'' Margo said, ''I'm gonna send it to the hospital laboratory to be checked out. That'll help us to find out why you're not feeling well.'' The doctor explained.
''OK'' Margo said, ''Goodbye Margo. You did really well!'' said the doctor. "Thank you, miss." said Lucy as she picked up Margo and headed out of the room.
''Now we wait and find out for further news Margo.'' said Lucy on the way home, "Yes, Mom." Margo sighed. That night before bedtime when everyone was in their pyjamas, there was an unexpected ring of the doorbell. Gru went to answer it.
There standing on the doorstep was the doctor who had given Margo a blood test at the clinic earlier on that day. ''Hello there'' she said, ''Are you Mr Gru, the wife of Lucy Gru and the father of Margo Gru?''.
"Yes, dat is me'' replied Gru. ''May I come in please'' asked the doctor, ''I need to talk to you and your wife about Margo''. "Yes of course." said Gru uneasily fearing whatever doctor needed to talk about, it wasn't gonna be good at all.
''Thanks, we need to have a serious talk'' said the doctor as she stepped inside. ''Gru what's going on?'' Lucy asked, ''And why's the doctor here?". ''She wants to talk to us Lucy'' Gru replied. ''And please can you bring Margo to join us? It's best if she knows what is wrong with her'' the doctor continued.
"Yes, of course." Said Lucy heading upstairs to fetch Margo. She came back carrying her daughter and she, Gru, Dru and the doctor sat on the crocodile couch with Lucy hugging Margo tightly.
''Mom what's going on?'' Margo groaned. "I don't know, sweetie." said Lucy. Margo put her head into Lucy's chest and cling tightly to her mom. Lucy stroked Margo's hair comfortingly.
''Ok Mr and Mrs Gru, thank you very much for your time when you weren't expecting it'' the doctor began, Gru and Lucy listened with worry. ''Well remember earlier today when Margo came in for a blood test?'' the doctor finished.
"Er, yes'' said Gru. "But we thought Margo would be fine." Lucy protested. ''Well we had the blood sent off the hospital laboratory for the tests to be done and they got back to us with the results'' said the doctor, ''And I'm afraid Margo has leukaemia. It's a sort of cancer''.
Lucy gasped. ''The cancer is spread throughout her blood.'' The doctor explained. ''What?!'' Gru said. He couldn't believe what he was hearing about Margo.
''It's best if we take Margo to the hospital, otherwise I'm afraid she could die.'' The doctor said. Gru and Lucy both gasped softly and dropped their mouths and their thoughts of worries filled up. Dru was speechless.
''I'm afraid I can't promise for definite when she will be able to come home again'' said the doctor gently, ''This is a very serious life threating illness. You must help her pack up everything she will need so she can go tonight as soon as possible. One of you can stay with her at the hospital for as long as she needs to be there''.
"I'll do it!" said Lucy at once. ''Of course honey'' Gru nodded, ''Look after her''. ''I will Gru'' said Lucy giving him a kiss, well it's time to get packing''. She packed two suitcase for her and Margo with enough stuff to last forever.
There was a fond farewell as Gru, Edith, Agnes said and all the minions said goodbye to Lucy and Margo. Then while the doctor drove Lucy and Margo to the hospital in her car, Gru got Edith and Agnes brush their teeth and get ready for bed.
At the hospital, Lucy held Margo close to her as they made their way inside and meet a bunch of doctors and nurses who would be looking after Margo. ''Let me show you where you will be sleeping'' said one of the nurses.
She led Lucy and Margo to a set of beds. ''Margo this is where you'll be sleeping and you mom will be sleeping right close to you'' said the nurse. "OK" muttered Margo dully. ''I know this isn't easy for you'' said the nurse.
"Yeah" Margo sighed. ''Now Margo'' said the nurse, ''If you ever have questions or fears or anything that makes you uncertain while you're here, talk to me, your mom or any or any of the doctors or nurses looking after you. We can answer your questions the best we can''. Margo nodded.
