DM When A Sibling Is Very Ill Chapter 2
The next morning, after breakfast, Margo's treatment for her leukaemia began. This meant having a lot of powerful drugs being injected into her veins via an IV.
By lunchtime, Margo wasn't hungry, she just picked at the food on her plate. ''Aren't you gonna eat Margo?'' Lucy asked. "I'm not going to eat, Mom'' said Margo. ''Why not honey?'' Lucy said, ''I'm not hungry, Mom'' sighed Margo, "I'm too ill".
Lucy made a smiley face on Margo's plate to cheer her up, using the eggs as eyes and the sausages for a smiley face. "Look, your food's happy to see ya!" Lucy said, ''Ok I'll try to eat'' Margo replied as she slowly began to eat. But she could only eat a small amount of food.
Later on that day. Margo was resting in her hospital bed when she suddenly clutched her crotch. ''Mom, I need to go the bathroom'' she said to Lucy. ''Margo, you're sick" said the nurse who was nearby, ''you must stay in bed and take it easy sweetie''.
"How's Margo gonna get to the bathroom?" Lucy asked. ''She can go in this bedpan'' replied the nurse bringing out a small funny looking pot. "What's a bedpan?" Margo asked. ''It's a receptacle used by a bedridden patient for urine and faeces'' the nurse explained.
"So, she's gotta put her butt on that thing?" Lucy asked. ''Yes, it goes under the bed covers'' said the nurse lifting Margo's bedcovers and placing the bedpan underneath it.
"OK, Margo, get your butt on that bowl" said Lucy. Margo's feelings were beyond words, she felt like she was going potty like a baby which was embarrassing.
She stripped herself under the covers and placed her bare bottom onto the cold bedpan which was freezing like mad! "Ogh Ah! It's cold'' Margo winced. But she managed it.
When she had finished, the nurse took away the urine filled bedpan and Lucy said, ''Well done, Margo. Good girl". ''Mom, that was so cold, my butt is freezing!'' Margo protested. "I know but you did the right thing to be brave" said Lucy smiling.
''Thanks Mom, it's hard to be brave all the time!'' Margo sighed. "Chillax. You're just like me" said Lucy reassuringly.
A week later, Edith and Agnes went to a zoo with their friends. Agnes liked the horns on the rhinos because they were similar to the horns on unicorn.
A friendly zoo keeper was showing them around the veterinary section and was taking different illnesses the animals could get and how they would stop it spreading to the animal's brothers or sisters.
Agnes piped up ''Edith is my sister, but my other sister couldn't come, she isn't very well''. ''Oh dear sweetie ' the zoo keeper said softly 'Just like some of these animals here, we always work hard here at the zoo to keep our animals well''.
On the way home, Edith was very quiet. ''Are you alright Edith?'' her friend's mum asked. Edith just said she felt tired, but really she was thinking about Margo which she found difficult to talk about.
That evening, the rain pelted down outside, Gru sat outside with his umbrella on the doorstep until Agnes came to sit beside while Edith lurked behind. "Dad, when's Margo gonna come back?" asked Agnes. ''Margo may not come back Agnes'' said Gru. Agnes's face fell, "Why?". ''She's very sick Agnes'' said Gru sadly.
''Dad why doesn't Margo feel better after a good night's sleep?'' Edith asked. Gru didn't answer, but then he sighed and pulled her and Agnes into a hug. ''Margo might not get better'' he said ''She has cancer which is a very deadly illness''.
''Never?'' asked Agnes. ''Aw I don't think so sweetheart'' replied Gru having lost all hope. ''Is Margo gonna die Dad?'' asked Edith, chewing on the tassels of her pink knit cap. ''Yes I'm afraid she might Edith'' said Gru, ''We must be very brave for Margo's sake!''.
''That's not fair!'' shouted Agnes, hugging her knees, ''I want Margo to get better!''. ''Me too'' said Edith, her bottom lip quivering. ''We all do'' agreed Gru as he squeezed his two little girls very tightly''.
''Come on'' said Gru, ''Eet's time for you girls to have a bath and get ready for bed''. He led Edith and Agnes inside and shut the door behind him. On the way towards the stairs, Gru stopped to comfort the minions who had been listening to him, Edith and Agnes from inside and were sobbing rather hysterically. ''Guys I know you're missing Margo'' Gru said, ''But it ain't any easier for myself, Edith or Agnes. We're in dis together''. Gru kissed each of the minions good night and headed upstairs to help Edith and Agnes wash, brush their teeth and get into bed.
The next day after school, Gru took Edith and Agnes to the local park to play and feed the ducks some bread. As he watched them go down the slide, who should he see sitting on the swings but no other than Margo's friends, Nia and Sophie from school who were related as sisters like how Margo related to Edith and Agnes as sisters.
''Oh hello there you two'' said Gru ''Fancy seeing you here today!''. ''Hello Mr Gru'' sighed Nia, looking down at the ground. Gru knew she must be missing Margo too. ''Are those Margo's two little sisters?'' Sophie asked, pointing to Edith and Agnes playing on the slide together, ''She's told us all about them''.
''Yes those are Margo's two sisters'' replied Gru. Then he called ''Edith, Agnes. Look who's here!''. Edith and Agnes came running over to them. ''Hi you must be Edith and Agnes'' Nia said, ''I'm Nia and this is my sister Sophie''.
''We're your sister's friends'' Sophie told Edith and Agnes, ''we hear that Margo's in hospital with leukaemia and we're really sorry about it, we hope she feels better soon. We miss seeing her!''.
Edith and Agnes nodded. ''Well thanks you guys'' said Edith and she meant it.
