DM When A Sibling Is Very Ill Chapter 4

Early the next morning, after breakfast, one of the nurses came round to see how Margo was doing. ''Good morning Margo, is your mom around?'' she asked, ''I've come to talk to her about something''.

Before Margo could answer, Lucy came over from getting drinks for herself and her daughter and said, ''I'm right here''. ''Ah Mrs Gru, mind if I talk to you about Margo for a moment?'' the nurse asked Lucy. ''Uh, sure'' Lucy replied.

''Mrs Gru, we've been thinking. Would Margo like to go the hospital school so she doesn't fall behind on lessons that she would usually be doing at school?'' the nurse asked, ''the doctors think she's well enough now''.

''Great I'll go and tell her!'' Lucy said as they headed over towards Margo who was sitting on her bed looking at a book. ''Margo'' said the nurse, ''I've just spoke to your mom and we're thinking of having you go to the hospital school now that you're in remission so you won't fall behind on all the lessons you would be having normally at school, would you like that?''.

''Uh Sure'' Margo said. ''Why don't we go there right now so you can see for yourself?'' the nurse suggested. "OK." Margo nodded. ''Your mom can come with you'' the nurse added. "Come on, my baby" said Lucy. She held Margo's hand as they followed the nurse along the corridors and up onto another floor level of the hospital.

''Here is the school hospital'' said the nurse opening one of the doors, ''Expect for being in the hospital. It works just like a normal school does''.

Margo looked around the room. It looked pretty much like a normal school classroom with a teacher and other children. ''So what do you think honey?'' Lucy asked her daughter. "Beautiful" Margo admitted. The hospital school teacher came over to them. ''Hello there, are you Margo?'' she asked. ''Hi yes, I'm Margo'' replied Margo.

''I'm Miss Slinster, the teacher here at the hospital school'' said the teacher introducing herself to Margo and her mom. "Hi, I'm her mom, Lucy" added Lucy. ''Let's go and meet the other children shall we Margo?'' said Miss Slinster.

"Yes, please" said Margo. Miss Slinster gathered the attention of the other children. ''Everyone I'd like you all to meet Margo'' she said, ''She'll be joining us while she's in remission and I want you to make her feel welcome''.

''Hello Margo'' the other children said waving at her all at once. ''Hi there'' said Margo shyly. So Margo started going to the hospital school the very next day. It was as Miss Slinster had said, apart from being in hospital, it was just like any old school. Even some of the other boys and girls had leukaemia like Margo had!

So how was your first day going to school in hospital?'' Lucy asked when hospital school was over. "I loved it, Mom," Margo remarked, hugging Lucy's bare legs.

A week later, one of the doctors who had looked after Margo came to her some good news. ''Well Margo'' he said, ''it seems your chemotherapy was a success''. Margo held her breath.

''There are no more cancer cells in your blood. Tomorrow you can go home'' the doctor said smiling. "YEEEESSS!" Margo squealed with joy. ''Not so loud honey'' Lucy said, ''there are people sleeping and they need their rest like you did''. "Sorry Mom," Margo said quietly.

"I'm really proud of you, sweetie," Lucy softened. Then she turned to the doctor and said, ''Thank you so much for the good news and for saving my daughter's life".

''It was our pleasure'' replied the doctor, ''But please be sure to bring Margo back here for regular check-ups to make sure the leukaemia cells ain't coming back'' he added, looking serious.

"Yes, sir" said Lucy. After the doctor had gone away, Lucy said, ''Come on Margo, we gotta pack all our things''. ''Yes Mom'' said Margo happily. ''Now I'm gonna phone your dad'' said Lucy after they had packed everything into their suitcases.

At home, Gru heard the phone beeping loudly and went to take the call. ''Hello'' he said, ''Oh Lucy, How's Margo?''. ''Much better! The doctor said she can go home tomorrow so please can you come and pick us up from the hospital in the morning?''.

''Of course'' said Gru, ''See you tomorrow. Goodbye!''. Bye, honey'' said Lucy and she blew him a kiss into the phone. An overjoyed Gru ended the call and whooped in a holler. ''Dad what are doing?'' asked Agnes as she walked past with Lucky the goat.

"Margo's gonna live!" Gru said. Edith came down to see what all the joy and whooping was about. "Margo is still alive!" Gru smiled at her. ''You mean she's better?'' Edith asked hopefully. ''Yes!'' said Gru, ''We'll be picking Lucy and Margo up from de hospital tomorrow morning. "Are you two excited to see your big sister?".

"YEAH!" shouted Edith and Agnes at the same time.
Lucky just bleated loudly. The minions cheered and whooped. ''Good news brother?'' Dru asked from inside the sitting room.

"Margo's cured!" Gru declared. "WHOOOOPIEEEE!" shouted Dru. The next morning after breakfast, Gru, Dru, Edith and Agnes went in the Gru mobile to the hospital. Lucy and Margo were delighted to see them. ''Margo!'' cried Gru. ''Dad!'' cried Margo. Gru picked Margo up and hugged her tight.

Dru helped Lucy carry the suitcases outside to the Gru mobile in the hospital car park while Gru carried Margo. On the way home, Edith and Agnes spoke to their big sister, "I missed you, Margo" said Agnes. ''Me too, Agnes and I were afraid you might never come back!'' added Edith. "I missed you guys, too" said Margo putting an arm around each of them. "Well, I had to go to the bathroom but I wasn't allowed to leave my bed" Margo said, ''So I had to use the bedpan which was really cold on my butt''.

"Yeesh, I wouldn't wanna do that'' Edith said. ''Your sister was very brave to deal with eet Edith'' said Gru. ''Yes Gru, Margo managed the bedpan really well'' said Lucy. ''I know Mom'' said Margo.

That evening there was a cake to celebrate Margo's recovery and Lucky came over, licked Margo's face and bleated. ''Hey Lucky!'' Margo giggled, ''yes I missed you too'' she told him. Then Kyle and Blondie came in and licked Margo too. ''And you two as well'' she said grinning.

Later on that night at bedtime, Lucy carried Margo to her own bed. ''Are you happy to be back in your own bed Margo?'' she asked. "Of course I am, Mom" Margo smiled.

''Eet's good to have you back Margo'' said Gru. ''I know Dad'' she said. ''I thought I might never see you again'' Dru finished. ''Yes Uncle Dru'' said Margo.

''Margo, can you be a brave girl about going back to the hospital for regular check-ups to make sure your leukaemia isn't coming back?'' Lucy asked. ''I will Mom'' Margo nodded and snuggled down into her own bed for the first time since she'd got back. ''That's my girl, goodnight, sleep tight'' said Lucy, giving her a kiss and soon Margo was sound asleep.

The End.
