Lady in Red

Michael hated these black tie affairs, he always had and he always would. Sometimes he thought Devon made him go to these things just because he knew Michael would not say no.

He was on his third glass of champagne, and he kept looking at the door to the parking lot thinking about Kitt sitting there by himself. Kitt hated these things also, he hated being on display and everyone talking about him as if he was not there.

Suddenly he saw something out of the corner of his eye that made him stop and glance around. Michael put his glass down as he followed something red across the room.

Half way there he realized he had never seen anyone so beautiful as this vision in red across the room, and he had to meet her no matter what.

He felt like every other man in the room, and some of the ladies as well all wanted the same thing he did. Everyone wanted to meet this stunning lady in red, and everyone was asking her for a chance to dance with her.

When Michael finally got thru the crowded room, and got within earshot of the men around her, he heard her say politely she was waiting for someone and declined their invitations of a dance. He was breathing a bit heavier when he took her hand in his and lifted it to his lips, he placed a feather light kiss on the back of her hand and looked into her eyes.

"Michael, I see you decided to join us this evening after all" she started.

"Bonnie…I you look beautiful this evening" he replied, at a loss for words.

The floor length red dress she was wearing had beaded flowers woven into the skirt that matched the small white flowers woven into her braided hair in the back with wisps of curly strands around her eyes. He noticed a small amount of makeup on her face that he had never seen before which somehow drew attention to her eyes. He then realized he was still holding her right hand, and had somehow forgotten.

"May I have this dance?" he asked her softly.

She did not reply, but she let him lead her to the dance floor and take her into his arms. Michael realized then that she had turned down every other man in the room because she had been waiting for him. The music started slowly, and as he continued to look into her eyes it took his breath away how much love he saw there that he had never noticed before.

He gently held her in his arms as they swayed with the music, and as they looked into each other's eyes, everyone else in the ballroom disappeared. Michael could not hear the music anymore, and he just concentrated on what it felt like to have her in his arms with her eyes seeming to be only for him. He did his best to memorize everything about her tonight as he never wanted to forget.

"Bonnie, I have to apologize" he told her embarrassed.

"Whatever for Michael?" she asked him smiling.

"I feel like I barely know you because we don't see each other very much, but were you waiting for me tonight?" he asked her hopefully.

"Yes I was waiting for you. I don't know you very well either, but I would like to" she told him.

"That sounds like a very good idea" he replied nervously.

They did not speak anymore until they noticed that everyone around them had stopped dancing. The small band that had been playing was taking a break.

They were still holding hands as he led her off the dance floor and onto the balcony that overlooked the garden. They both accepted a glass of champagne from the waitress that was there waiting with a tray of glasses.

"A toast" he told her, bringing his glass close to hers, and returning her smile.

She smiled at him with a question in her eyes, but brought her glass close to his.

"A toast to you, and how gorgeous you are this evening my lady" he told her.

"Thank you Michael, how very sweet of you" she replied as they drank together.

"Have you seen Devon this evening by any chance?" he asked.

"I believe he met an old friend, and last I saw Devon he was escorting them back to his office. I believe one of them mentioned an old bottle of whiskey they wanted to toast with instead of champagne" she explained.

"Excellent, then I should be able to put my plan into action" he told her with a wink.

"Oh yea, and what plan would that be?" she asked with a laugh.

"I'm not the only one that dislikes these functions. What do you say we go and see how Kitt is holding up in the parking lot?" he asked hopefully.

"I thought you would never ask. I have been wondering how he was doing" she replied.

They made their way hand in hand out to the parking area, where Kitt was parked off to the side by himself. He liked to be where no one would hopefully bump into him on the way to another car, or hit him with their car doors.

"Bonnie, vous etes belle" Kitt greeted her. ('you look beautiful' in French)

"Merci Kitt" Bonnie replied with a bow.

"How you doin' buddy? Anyone spill any champagne on you yet?" Michael asked him with a chuckle.

"The evening is short Michael, give it time" Kitt answered. They were both laughing as Kitt opened his doors in invitation.

"Aw, thank you Kitt. It has been far too long since I have danced in heels, and I am already tired" Bonnie told Michael as he helped her into the passenger seat.

Michael went around to the driver's side to join her, but they both left the doors open to let the cool air into Kitt's cabin.

"I sincerely hope I did not wear you out too much" Michael told her as he sipped from his glass.

"I was hoping after all to get to know you better" Michael continued.

"I think we have all the time in the world Michael" she answered him with her most dazzling smile yet.

Kitt had never before enjoyed over hearing a more delightful conversation than the one taking place in the peace, and quiet of his cabin between two of the most important people in his life. He quietly entered surveillance mode, so as to keep an eye out for anyone intruding on the much needed privacy of his companions.
