Anakin listens to the radio closely. "There are too many of them!," he hears the pilots say over the communication channels. In space, the Naboo fighters back away from the control ship as the droid fighters fly after them, firing nonstop. "Obi-Wan said to stay in the cockpit," he smirks, "So I'll stay in the cockpit." He straps himself in, places a helmet on his head, then begins flipping switches on the console. "Not too different from my crop-duster back home," he manages to start the engine, "Now, let's see..." He pulls back on the controls. The engines roar and the ship takes off, banging into the bay door as it leaves the hangar and drops down the waterfall. Anakin panics and grabs the controls, narrowly avoiding splashing into the water, then he flies into the air.
Darth Maul backs away into the power chamber, which contains multiple platforms surrounding a towering generator. He twists his saber around, blocking more attacks as he backs into it. He spins his saber around, brushing Qui-Gon back before he kicks Obi-Wan to the floor. He then backslips away from the pair with Qui-Gon racing after him. He blocks a few more strokes, then pushes Qui-Gon back. Obi-Wan joins and manages to press the attack, which forces Maul to the edge of a control center and a very long drop down a shaft. There is a brief lull as the two Jedi square off with Maul on the defense. Obi-Wan feigns an attack, drawing attention away as Qui-Gon strikes. Maul barely manages to block the attack and leaps across the chasm to another platform. The two Jedi leap after him, one on either side. Maul jabs both ends at the Jedi, forcing them into defense stances, before spinning around, kicking Obi-Wan once again. Obi-Wan falls off the platform, but luckily drops down to a lower area and rolls toward the edge, barely stopping himself in time. He scrambles to his feet and picks up his dropped lightsaber. Above, Qui-Gon shoves Maul's blade to the side and punches him. Maul falls to another platform and Qui-Gon drops down after him. Maul, still on his back, kicks Qui-Gon away, then rolls onto his feet before backing up toward another door. Obi-Wan Force-leaps after them as they continue toward the door. They enter a long hallway filled with a series of deadly rays that go on and off in a pulsing pattern that shoots down the corridor every few minutes. As Obi-Wan runs after them, he is cut off by one of these rays. Darth Maul pivots away from Qui-Gon just as the rays reach them. They are separated by a wall, forcing them to wait until the beams shut off. Qui-Gon sits down and calmly meditates while Darth Maul paces angrily. Obi-Wan is helpless.
In the field outside the city, the droids march toward the Gungins. Smaller slingshot extend out the front of the hovering catapults and the troops quickly load the globes into the slings and begin firing short-range. One globe rips a droid in half, another bowls over several of them. A third bounces off the grass, smashing several droids in its wake. "Jar Jar, keep loading!," one of the Gungins commands. Jar Jar scrambles to load the next sling. There are too many droids, however. They open fire, blasting the catapults and killing many of the Gungin troops. Jar Jar leaps off a catapult for cover just as it's destroyed.
Padme and Captain Panaka are brought into the throne room where Nute Gunray sits. "Ah, Queen Amidala," he condescends, "Nice of you to come."
"You're in my seat, Viceroy," she tells him.
"Soon, this throne will belong to the Federation," he stands up and moves toward them, "But before you sign our treaty, I want you to witness the futility of your little plan," he motions toward a holographic image of the dogfight happening in space. Naboo ships are being chased by droid star fighters.
Anakin flies toward the dogfight. "The Force is with me, the Force is with me, the Force is with me...," he mumbles to himself as he dips to the left and fires, destroying a few droid ships in the process. He gets excited as he continues to veer to the side, "I got `em," then he nearly hits a passing ship and fumbles with the controls to swerve in the opposite direction. He ends up diving towards the control ship canons which fire at him. He swoops up and away as the cannons continue to fire. One shot gets close enough to rock the fighter and damage his shields as an alarm goes off. "This might've been a bad idea," he says to himself.
Darth Maul paces in front of the forcefield separating him and Qui-Gon like a caged tiger. He taps the crimson rays with his lightsaber in frustration. At the end of the hallway, the rays disappear and Obi-Wan is allowed to run toward his master. The rays between Qui-Gon and Darth Maul also disappear and they quickly exit the hallway and arrive in the metal pit: a circular room with a long chasm in the center. Obi-Wan gets to the end of the hallway just before the last wall reappears, blocking him off once again. Maul twists his double-bladed lightsaber back and forth, blocking Qui-Gon's attacks. Obi-Wan becomes worried as the fight escalates to a fever pitch with both fighters becoming more and more aggressive. They lock swords and Maul spins his saber around, nearly taking it from Qui-Gon's hands. He steps back, making sure not to fall in the pit and brings his saber down in a hard swing. Maul holds his blade horizontaly to block, then shoves the hilt into Qui-Gon's face, momentarily stunning them. Then he spins around and runs Qui-Gon through.
"No!," Obi-Wan watches in horror as Darth Maul pulls the saber out of Qui-Gon's chest and lets the body hit the floor.
