607 Shadow Play
After a meeting with the leaders of Kelowna at the SGC, Jonas talked to Teal'c about his apprehension on returning to his home world of Langara. He had betrayed his country. He had stolen from them the precious element Naquadria. He surmised his people despised him although the intentions of his actions were for their benefit. Teal'c could understand. His actions too were seen as a betrayal and brought harm to those he wished to free. Yet again his actions were for the greater good. They both had to endure derision and hope they would see results of their efforts in their lifetime.
O'Neill was less than thrilled to be back on this planet. He supposed Carter and Teal'c weren't either. They couldn't help but think of the death of their friend and teammate mate who gave his life to save these people. Daniel suffered grievously and was denigrated by them.
But now Jonas was a member of his team and O'Neill would go the extra mile for his team.
The people of Jonas Quinn's planet, specifically of his former nation, wanted to reopen trade negotiations with the SGC. They were not interested in foodstuffs or medicine. They were facing imminent war with the other two nations of their world and were in the market for weapons, specifically surface to air missiles and aerospace technology. They had plans of a preemptive strike against their enemies. So much easier than negotiations. No haggling and so very decisive.
First Minister Valis dangled in front of Jonas a chance to be redeemed in the eyes of his government and country men. He could have his life back and all he had to do was a little espionage and betray the SGC for technology, and betray his beliefs by continuing the Naquadria bomb research.
O'Neill had no desire to get mired in the politics of this one nation. It seemed however a resistance was at the ready to overturn the present government and prevent the war. And Jonas' former mentor and professor was heavily involved.
The resistance's fear was, if it came to war, a Naquadria bomb would be used preemptively. This was unthinkable. Such a powerful weapon would decimate the other nations.
Unfortunately there was no resistance, it was all a figment of Dr. Kieran's mind. A brilliant mind damaged by the years of research of Naquadria and its dangerous radiation. Upon learning this O'Neill was concerned for Carter and Jonas both of who had worked with the unstable element. Dr. Fraiser assured they were both fine and extra precautions were implemented in further research of the uses of Naquadria.
The SGC continued diplomatic relations with an emphasis on peaceful negotiations with the other nations of Langara. There, however, would be no shipments of weapons.
