614 Smoke and Mirrors

Carter was agitated and pacing. "I can't believe it. They had him chained up like a criminal."

Jonas stopped himself from speaking and just looked at her. "Yes, he's accused of murder but... he was special forces in the past wasn't he. But I can't believe he's an assassin."

Carter went on "No, I don't believe that. I don't care what they say and what proof they think they have? No, not the colonel."

Teal'c finally spoke "We need not only to determine who did this, but how."

"So you don't believe the colonel did this?" Jonas asked.

Teal'c simply glared.

"Colonel O'Neill may have disliked Senator Kinsey but not this, he'd never do this." Carter said.

Carter returned to the prison and through the intercession of General Hammond was allowed again to speak to O'Neill. She apprised him of their ideas and told him what their next steps would be. His two aliens would be working together and Carter would be working with Agent Barrett. O'Neill was concerned about Barrett but he knew Carter could handle herself. But Jack had seen how Barrett looked at Carter, well who wouldn't. He couldn't help a little flare of jealousy. He was locked up in here and Barrett had no ethical problems keeping him from getting close to Carter, getting a little too close to Carter.

Later after Jack was released and had washed off the stench of prison, SG-1 gathered at Carter's house for a team dinner.

"We knew you didn't do it, Sir." Carter said as she placed the large bowl of slaw on the table beside a platter of ribs.

Jack looked at his friends and asked "Yeah, How?"

"If you shot at Kinsey, O'Neill, you would not have missed." Teal'c sagely replied.
