Hello my gooda gooda viewers and welcome back to "The unbreakable shield" now after reading some of your reviews I could tell you didn't like the last chapter all that much since not much of it was that different from the anime/manga and here's my response to that, what did you expect me to do? I'm not exactly the most creative person in za warudo and I'm definitely not the smartest, so honestly what did you expect me to do in that situation? just give a complete rewrite to the whole story just to make it different? no way! look whats done is done and I'm not changing my story just because you didn't like a chapter being so similar to the original content, anyways I'm gonna cut my own ramblings short and just say- if you don't like it, deal with it. I'll elaborate more about it in the review section.
Outside of the slave trader's tent
Walking out of the giant tent Kirishima walked with his new demi-human companion by his side.
Looking up at her new master Raphtalia was a bit nervous why he was being so nice and friendly to her in the first place, was it to make her let her guard down? or was he just generally a nice guy? either way she was going to remain wary until she could be sure.(1)
"Welp, lets get going." Kirishima said as he began walking towards Erhard's shop.
"Uh... go where master?" she asked shyly but followed him regardless.
"To my friends weapon shop of course, you need something to defend yourself after all!" he replied which only served to confused Raphtalia.
Despite her confusion she still followed him, after all even though he looked friendly at first he could still punish her.
Erhard's blacksmith shop
As the hero and demi-human duo entered the shop the redheaded teen called out to owner of the fine establishment.
"Yo Erhard! hows it going big guy?" he called out in a more friendly tone than yesterday.
"Hey kid, good to see you again. hm? and whose the little girl?" the blacksmith responded with while noticing the young demi-human.
"Her name's Raphtalia and shes my new companion, we're here to buy her a weapon, a dagger or something like that should fit her." Kirishima said while looking around to see if there was something that suited her small frame.
While he was doing this Raphtalia was just standing there awkwardly, she had never been in any situation like this before so she had no idea what to do while her master was browsing.
"Hmm... something like this should work for her." the tallest of the three occupants of the room stated as he took a short sword in a scabbard from a shelf, it was a foot and a half in length and when Kirishima picked it up to check its weight he found it relatively light(2) so Raphtalia should be able to wield it.
"Here take this Raphtalia, try a couple test swings to see if its good" Kirishima said passing it to her, as he instructed she, albeit hesitantly, took it out of the sheath before swinging it a few times, she found it easy to swing and not to difficult to move around.
"Well we should probably get you some practice with that." he said a few minutes again confusing Raphtalia, practice what? her using the sword?
Suddenly Kirishima's shield switch to its [Balloon queen shield] form and had it spit out a basic orange balloon which caused the tanuki girl to yelp and jump back in surprise and fear.
"Alright Raphtalia when your ready just stab this thing and kill it" Kirishima said with a smile and calm tone which did very little to calm her.
"B-but! its a monster!" she said in fear while keeping her distance from the balloon that was just sitting there waiting for Kirishima to give it a command.
"True, but don't worry it wont attack unless I order it to and I promise that I wont." he said while keeling down next to Raphtalia and giving her an encouraging smile.
Hesitantly, Raphtalia nodded before charging the balloon with closed eyes and a small battle cry, due to the momentum she built up she easily stabbed and killed the balloon, but also fell on her face.
"Great job Raphtalia!" kirishima said while checking on her to make sure shes ok.
"I-I did it!" she cried out in joy.
"Yeah you did! good job Raphtalia!" Kirishima said with an honest smile which caused her to smile in return and a warm feeling to bloom in her chest, she didn't know what it was but she liked it.
Off to the side Erhard was watching the duo with a small smile on his features as he was happy that the bitch's betrayal didn't turn the redhead into a heartless prick who didn't care about anyone except himself and glad he was still capable of showing compassion to others.
"So how much will the sword be Jiji?(old man)" Kirishima asked after he gave Raphtalia to use gravity to her advantage and make her attacks more effective.
"Well you have the hero's discount so I'd say around 47 silver and 50 copper." he replied as they both agreed the hero discount to be 5% off.
And so Kirishima payed for the sword and then both he and his new companion headed off for the fields in order to train and grind EXP.
'Good luck kid, I'm rooting for ya.' Erhard thought as he went about his business.
Back at the slave trader's tent
"So your saying he was here and brought a slave for himself?" the shorter of the two cloaked individuals asked Beloukas.
"That's right, and I must say I do believe he might become a regular costumer as I could tell from the look in his eyes that he wanted nothing more than to free the slaves and help them all." he replied as he took his payment for the information he just handed to them, nothing was free after all and he needed to make a profit somehow aside from selling the slaves he has.
"Thank you for this info, we shall be taking our leave now." she said as they both bowed before walking away from the shady man, he gave off menacing vibes which spooked the both of them.
In the forest outside of the kingdom
Bashing three different variations of the balloons towards Raphtalia Kirishima sighed, the two of them had gotten into a pretty good rhythm of balloon slaughter where he knocks them around before Raphtalita finishes them off with a few quick slices of her short sword, Kirishima also found out about a few things the first of which is he gains EXP from Raphtalia's kills, not as much as her but every little bit helped, another thing is that demi-humans grow at abnormal rates when they level up as he noticed Raphtalia has already gained a few inches in height, she explained this is why her kind is discriminated against and used as slaves as they are seen as unnaturally creatures.
Which Kirishima called total bullshit on, so what if they grow up really fast when they level up? if you asked him it sounds more like an excuse just for them to hate demi-humans.
Anyways aside from that unnecessary amount of exposition, it was nighttime so the shield hero/demi-human duo decided to make camp for the night, the setting was quite peaceful really and what you'd expect from two people camping outside in the wilderness, a campfire with two logs by it, a river nearby for water, and of course the two occupants of the campsite, all in all it was a peaceful setting which strangely calmed the two while allowing them to remain aware of their surroundings.
While the young tanuki girl was staring at the fire caught up in her thoughts Kirishima was adding some plants he found into his legendary weapon which earned him a few new shields, some of which gave him knowledge on medicines and the like, he didn't know how he suddenly knew how to make them but just chalked it up to his shield using magic or something.(3)
Switching to his [Leaf shield] he grabbed some of the spare plants he had and enhanced their quality, then using the medical recipe that's been put into his head he began making some medicine to cure Raphtalia of her sickness, after he finished it he offered it to her.
"Hey Raphtalia, I made some medicine which will hopefully cure you of that nasty cold." he said while holding it out for her to take which she did with only slight hesitance this time as she understood that Kirishima wasn't like her previous masters and he was actually kind and caring of her, however when she took a sip of it she immediately spit it out due to the bitter taste.
"Bleh! its so bitter!" she said in disgust at the bad taste.
"Sorry but the more bitter the medicine the better it'll cure you!" Kirishima said trying to convince her to continue drinking it.
After a bit of arguing he managed to get her to bare with it and afterwards they enjoyed a nighttime snack which Raphtalia used to get rid of the bad taste leftover in her mouth.
About a couple of hours later Kirishima was poking at the fire while Raphtalia was resting so her body could recover from any remaining injuries that might've remained, that reminds him that it may be worth looking into learning magic as for one thing it would be awesome to use, and secondly me might find some kind of healing spell to use so he could heal others.(4)
However, Kirishima was abruptly brought out of his thoughts when Raphtalia suddenly started sat up crying out in fear and terror.
"No! their dead! their dead!" she cried out with tears streaming down her and arms flailing around, quickly he got up and hugged her while patting her back and comforting her, he didn't ask what was wrong only telling her it was going to be ok and there was nothing to worry about while he let her cry into his shoulder, he could always ask later what upset her so much but for now it was time for comforting his companion.
"Ssshhh, its ok, its ok..." he said trying to calm her down and comfort her like how his parents comforted him when he had a nightmare as a child.
After a while Raphtalia eventually stopped crying her heart out but she didn't fall asleep again in fear of another nightmare, so the two companion just rested next to each other with the younger snuggled into the redheads side while both of them were just looking at the campfire in a comfortable silence, neither speaking a word with Kirishima not wanting her to think about the nightmare so soon after having it and Raphtalia not wanting to talk or even think about it, so they just sat there staring at the dancing flame.
When they both woke up the next morning both of them felt refreshed and ready for a new day, strangely enough neither of them realised they fell asleep in the first place but then again you don't tend to notice that anyways, however the strangest thing for Raphtalia is that she didn't have a nightmare like she thought she would but decided to not think about it to much.
Packing up their things they prepared when they suddenly heard a twig snap and some rusting in the bushes causing both of them to face where the noise came from and get into battle positions, when suddenly a evil bunny hopped out of the bush and immediately started to charge/hop towards Raphtalia who was to startled by its appearance to defend herself, unfortunately the rabbit forget to take into account that TWO people were there.
"ORA!" it suffered for its idiocy as Kirishima hardened fist smashed into its head full-force-throttle causing its skull to collapse in on itself and instantly destroy the brain and causing some blood to splash onto the ground.
"You ok Raphtalia!?" he said concerned for the safety of his companion who he sees is staring at the blood on the ground with eyes wide and filled with fright.
"Y-you killed it..." she said quietly, the blood was causing her to have small flashbacks to the day when her parents were killed by the three-headed dog monster.
"Yeah, I did..." Kirishima said before falling silent.
"..." silence is all that prevailed as the only two living beings in the clearing were silent, until Kirishima sighed and went to feed the dead rabbit to his shield while Raphtalia just watched him.
"Sigh, well, how about we head into town for some breakfast?" Kirishima offered with a comforting smile which Raphtalia nodded to, feeling pretty hungry.
In the kingdom of Melromarc
Walking to the inn or whatever it is(idk what the place Naofumi and Raphtalia went to was called) Kirishima walked right on in while Raphtalia was stop by a sign outside of the establishment saying "We do not serve demi-humans." which caused her to become confused as to why the redheaded teen wanted to eat here, did he simply not see the sign or was he not going to feed her?
"Uh... master?..." "Whats wrong aren't you coming in?" she tried to asked him about the sign only to be cut off by Kirishima motioning for her to enter with him, to which she did.
Walking through the room the two got varying looks from the other occupants of the room ranging from curious glances to full on glares, but Kirishima paid them no mind as he simply sat down at one of the tables in one of the corners with Raphtalia joining on the other side of the table, soon enough a waiter of the place came to take their orders only to pause as he saw Raphtalia was a demi-human.
"Excuse me sir but-" "You have a problem with my companion?" the waiter was cut off as Kirishima glared at him dangerously promising pain if they failed to answer correctly, now the waiter knew of what Kirishima would do if they refused him and it involved them, some red balloons, and a lot of pain.
"O-of course not! er... may I take your orders?" the waiter asked nervously as the red-haired teen dropped the glare and proceeded to order himself and Raphtalia some food, the cheapest meal for himself and a kids meal for her.
"Is it good?" Kirishima asked the young tanuki girl who smiled adorably and nodded in response causing him to smile in return.
After they were almost done with their meals however, two cloaked people approached their table, noticing this Kirishima turned his attention to them.
"What do you want?" he asked rudely while giving a slight glare towards them while readying himself to harden his body and fight off their potential attackers.
"Greetings shield hero, we have come here to ask you something..." the shortest of the two individuals responded in a monotone, yet clearly feminine voice.
"And what would that be?" Kirishima asked while unconsciously glaring just a little bit harden while becoming even more ready to block an attack on himself and/or Raphtalia in case these guys turned hostile on them.
With the high tension in the air the shorter of the two opened their mouth to speak...
That's right cliff hanger bitches! anyways as usual I apologise for the long update but as I continuously put in the author's notes I, AM, LAZY. also I'm business playing and talking online with my friends so there's also that as well, anyways lets get on with the numbers.
1: Raphtalia is simply being cautious because Kirishima could've simply been acting nice while he was really abusive.(hes not but she didn't know that at the time.)
2: The weapon violation states Kirishima cant wield any weapon other than a shield with the intent to fight, but if Kirishima didn't have any intention of fighting with a weapon and was merely testing its weight for a party member than the shield sees it as ok.
3: For all we know Naofumi really does get his medical knowledge from the shield providing it for him, after all its possible since we were never given a full scope of the full possibilities of the legendary weapons, only that their potential is limitless.
4: At this point Kirishima is unaware that there is an entire type of magic dedicated to healing others to he is going to find a lot more than a few healing spells. -w-
Now onto the reviews!
HiddenHero220: I'm glad their ain't no hard feelings of animosity between us!
earthdragoon: Well next chapter you are going to find out their names and what they really look like under those cloaks!(thanks for telling me what it meant)
Captain Imaginat: Holy shit that's a lot of text you put there, but I'll answer it in pieces to help, for how Kirishima is going to treat melty hes going to be a lot more friendly towards her but hes not just gonna fully trust her right off the bat, you know what I'm saying mate?(also I'm not saying anymore on their relations as that would be spoilers) as for Kirishima and slavery, well he certainly doesn't like it but he is willing to put up with it if it lets him save someone from potential death and potentially from being the slave of someone who would abuse them for their own selfish gain.
Omnipotent 18/Captain Imaginat on their mini-argument if Kirishima is gonna act like a dad or bro to Raphtalia: you are both wrong, hes going to be her boyfriend, did you guys not even look to see if there was any pairings?
Magnus9284: I personally say "Fuck that bullshit!" when it comes to the shield weakening Kirishima's attacks which don't revolve around it and denying him combat moves, so here's how the legendary shield in my fanfiction is going to work differently then in canon.
Kirishima's attacks wont be weakened when not using the shield, but instead he will receive bonus damage if hes attacking with it.
The shield will allow Kirishima to use magic items as long as their not magical weapons which aren't shields.(idk if this one is different then canon but this is how it works in my fanfiction)
And lastly the shield will eventually be able to work alongside another one of the legendary weapons, but I wont say how as that would be spoilers. -w-
myafroatemydog: Thanks.
Raphaim: Sorry man but parts of the story need to follow alongside cannon or certain events wont be able to happen unless I make up some bullshit as to why its happening, also my mind was just failing to be creative that day.
RIO23: I hope you did find this chapter interesting.
Slade01: Well first off as I said/typed in before everyone is entitled to their own opinion and your review holds yours, as for Kirishima and slavery read the third review I answered, as for his combat capability I'm well aware Kirishima is capable of defending himself and others but in the story he himself is aware that he cant tackle every problem alone and without help and that he cant be everywhere at once so having an extra pair of hands on deck will certainly help especially when there's several things he needs to do at once like defending multiple people in different areas or saving someone from a burning building while there is also a horde of monsters he would need to fight off to make sure they don't kill anyone, the point is he knows he cant do everything by himself and knows hes going to need help.
Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed the chapter.
