Mana sits in the middle of her bed with her arms wrapped around her knees that are pulled up to her chest. Her eyes are red and her cheeks are stained with dried up tears and eyeliner. She didn't expect Atem to walk out like that last night. She didn't know the situation had become this serious and how much it truly affected him.
"Knock knock," Téa says, knocking on the wall and Mana looks up to see her and Kisara standing at the doorway. She sniffles and buries her head back in her arms. They join her on the bed and Kisara places a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, it's gonna be alright," Kisara assures her magician friend with a soft smile.
"Yeah, just give him some time. He'll come around," Téa chimes in.
"But what if he doesn't?" Mana sobs, her voice muffled.
"I know he will!" Téa replies confidently. "He loves you so much. I think he's just…"
"Stressed," Kisara says bluntly and Mana lifts her head.
"But I don't understand why he would be. Does he think I'm weak? Or maybe he doesn't like when I use my magic?" Mana asks, rubbing her nose and sniffling once more. Her eyes feel heavy and tired after the night of crying she's had and her body feels numb while her mind races a thousand miles a minute.
"I don't think it's that, Mana," Téa says. "I just think you…"
"Lack good judgement," Kisara butts in once again.
Mana pouts and folds her arms, glaring at her blue haired friend. "No I don't!"
"Then why did I receive a call from you at two o'clock in the morning?" Kisara points out. "Surely you weren't just up doing nothing. I assume you were out and about all by yourself. News flash: Domino isn't the safest place there is and lots of creeps hang out on the streets at night."
"Well I was craving a specific drink and I had to get it," Mana defends herself.
Kisara sighs heavily. "Mana, you gotta understand Atem's point of view here. You go out late at night all by yourself and apparently you stood in front of a loaded gun the other day."
"Not to mention the mere thought of engaging in battle excites you," Téa adds.
Mana raises an eyebrow. "He told you about the gun thing?"
"Yes!" Kisara says exasperated. "Because he was worried you'd get hurt. You gotta make better choices. You're not invisible. Heck, I'm stronger than you and you don't see me out here facing up against guns."
"I guess I see your point," Mana says understandingly before it registers what Kisara just said about strength. "Hey! You're not that much stronger than me you know!"
"I am and it's not up for debate," Kisara replies, sticking her nose up with a smirk.
"Focus you two," Téa replies with dimmed eyes.
"So if someone's in trouble, I'm supposed to just stand there and not do a thing?" Mana asks. "That's just not in my character."
"Once again, it's all about making better choices. No one's asking you not to save anyone. But think before you just decide to leap into danger," Kisara explains to her.
Mana inhales deeply and then exhales. She hears what her friends are saying, but a huge part of her still doesn't understand. Doesn't anyone have faith in her? She's trained tirelessly for years. She has grown much stronger since all of those years ago. There's nothing they should be worried about.
Groaning lightly, she hides her face once again in her arms.
Sensing that Mana's mood hasn't improved, Téa wraps an arm around her shoulder and brings her into a side hug. "Come on. Let's get you out of this house."
"I really just wanna lay in my bed and not do a thing, Téa."
"Yeah I know. But we're not gonna let you. So get dressed," Téa commands and Mana looks at her with a look of dread. But Téa's intense and intimidating stare causes Mana to jump out of bed and she hurries to get ready.
Wearing an oversized t-shirt that reaches her thighs, light blue jean shorts and sneakers, Mana walks across the street, following Téa and Kisara closely behind. Compared to her friends, she is more dressed down. Kisara wears a white button up shirt with a long navy pleated skirt, while Téa wears a red and white polka dot dress and wedges.
"You know when I mentioned going out and getting your mind off the situation, that didn't mean to slip on whatever you could find in Atem's closet," Téa says, but Mana doesn't acknowledge her, keeping her head bowed and her eyes focused on the pavement. It's not like she wants to be out anyway, so dressing the bare minimum is all she could muster to do.
"That reminds me. Why exactly did you call me so late if all you were doing was getting something to drink?" Kisara asks, raising an eyebrow and looking at Mana over her shoulder.
Mana lifts her head, realizing that she forgot to relay what happened last night. "Uh…well I caught someone breaking into KaibaLand," she reveals and Kisara stops in her tracks, whipping around with her eyes wide.
"Say what now?" she asks and Mana twiddles her fingers. "Well thanks for telling me now!"
"Hey! I did call you know. Not my fault you're a heavy sleeper."
Kisara sighs and turns around, beginning to walk quickly. Téa and Mana exchange looks before quickening their pace to keep up with her. "Kisara, where are we going?" Téa asks.
"KaibaLand."
"Don't you think we should let Seto know?" Mana brings up, trying to be responsible for a change.
"He's got so much on his plate. I'm going to look into it myself," she replies, keeping her eyes forward.
Mana looks up in thought, placing her index finger on her chin. "Isn't that the same thing you were telling me not to do? Being reckless?"
"Not now, Mana."
"Okay. As long as you're aware," Mana replies with a shrug.
They arrive at the entrance of KaibaLand. The broken chain and lock that were previously lying on the ground are no longer there, but a portion of the gate remains open. Without hesitation, Kisara walks right in while Mana and Téa peek from behind the gate. Their eyes widen in amazement, being able to see the attractions up close. Slowly but surely they walk inside, wanting to take it all in.
"Whoa! It's even better than I imagined!" Mana exclaims, her mouth going agape and she turns in a circle, looking upward at the rollercoasters and ferris wheel.
"No kidding," Téa agrees. "Wonder when he's gonna finally open this place up."
"Well it won't be soon if we don't figure out who broke in," Kisara says.
"What exactly are we looking for? What if the goons already left?"
"Anything out of the ordinary," Kisara replies vaguely, continuing to walk forward. She knows that Seto is planning on opening the park up soon after having to delay it for security reasons. He has worked so hard on this amusement park and trying to ensure that nothing goes wrong. It upsets her knowing that someone actually broke in doing who knows what.
"Are you sure we should be doing this?" Mana asks.
Kisara looks back at her with disbelief. She can't believe those words are actually coming out of Mana's mouth, the daredevil of the group. "Look, Seto is going through a lot as it is. I'm sure if anything arises, we can handle it."
"Except I'm just a human with no powers at all," Téa points out with dimmed eyes.
Kisara ignores their protests and proceeds further into the park. So far, nothing seems to be out of place or disturbed. Everything appears to be untouched and there are still plastic wrappings around some of the tables and benches in the park. They stop in the middle, looking in various directions, coming up empty handed.
"That's strange. Why would someone break in and not do anything?" Kisara asks.
"Maybe they wanted a sneak peek?" Mana guesses, shrugging her shoulders.
"Well that's good news right? At least nothing's been vandalized," Téa says optimistically with a smile. "Now let's get outta here."
"Oh, hello there," says a soft masculine voice and the three women scream and jump, turning around to the source of the voice. Mana holds out her wand defensively and Kisara's eyes glow blue while Téa stands behind them. Ziegfried holds his hands up, blinking a few times. "My apologies. I didn't mean to startle you ladies."
Mana and Kisara let their guards down and Téa holds her chest. "What are you doing in here?" Kisara asks, raising her eyebrow suspiciously.
"It appeared someone broke inside, so I was taking a look to make sure nothing was damaged or stolen," he explains. "I would hate if Kaiba's grand opening was ruined by a bunch of thugs."
"His hair is magnificent," Téa mutters to Mana.
"I know right?" Mana whispers back.
"I apologize for my intrusion," Ziegfried says.
"Well did you find anything or anyone?" Kisara asks to which he shakes his head.
"I'm afraid I've come up empty handed like you."
"You shouldn't have come here," comes a deep baritone voice and they all turn around. Ten masked men begin to emerge from various places in their area. Like the incident at the banquet, they wield different weapons as they edge up on Kisara and the others.
"Oh great," Téa says with dread.
Kisara stands in front of the group, brushing back her hair. Her blue eyes are narrowed at the group of thugs who snicker and laugh at the thin framed woman. "I don't know what you guys are up to, but it ends here," she says before glancing back at Mana. "Are you helping or not?"
Mana flinches, poking her two index fingers. "But what about—" She yelps when Tea pushes her from behind, causing her to stumble until she stands up straight next to Kisara.
"Consider this an exception!" Téa yells out.
Ziegfried looks on with confusion. "But what can they do? There's only two of them compared to all of those men."
A few of the men begin to laugh. "Foolish girls!"
"Try not to damage anything in the park," Kisara says to Mana who nods.
"You're no match for all of us!"
Kisara grins as a blue aura appears around her and her eyes begin to glow blue to their surprise. "Don't underestimate me." She opens her mouth widely, letting out a battle cry as a large blue blast shoots from her mouth. The group of men all scatter in different directions, thrown off by her display of power.
As they scramble to get to their feet, Mana comes charging at them with her wand held back, not giving them any time to recover. "Think fast!" she exclaims with a grin, jumping in to the air and shooting a barrage of magical blast down on them. There goes that adrenaline rush again. No matter how hard she tries to contain it, she just can't. She smiles as she dodges multiple punches and swipes with ease. It's a good thing Atem isn't there to witness this.
Ziegfried's mouth goes open in shock, watching the two women go toe to toe. He didn't know they were capable of such things. He turns his head to look at Téa and takes a step back. Feeling eyes on her, she looks at him and tilts her head.
"What's up?" she asks, sensing a bit of fear coming from him. She then smiles and chuckles. "Don't worry. I'm the normal one out of the group."
He returns a brief smile before his eyes set on a nearby rollercoaster by the name of White Lightning. It is a blue colored coaster with many loops and drops and telling by its size and presentation, it is the main attraction of the park. His eyes go down to the base of the ride where a metal box lies with a blinking red light and he grins.
YGOYGOYGOYGOYGO
At the Kaiba Corp. office, Atem and Yugi sit in the empty stands where practice duels are taking place between young duelists. They occasionally coach them and offer advice on their dueling strategies. "Nice job Toby!" Yugi cheers one of their students on as the duel comes to an end. "Wasn't that clever what he did?" He looks over to Atem whose eyes are lowered, not focusing on the duel that has just concluded. "Bro?"
"Hm?" He lifts his eyes and looks at his younger brother. "I'm listening."
Yugi cuts his eyes at him. "No you're not. I know you. Something's up." Atem is typically quiet and observant, but he is even more quiet than usual.
"I'm sorry. I just have a lot on my mind."
Yugi frowns, knowing exactly what the subject matter is. He was hoping that continuing to work would keep his mind off of the things going on between him and Mana. But he can see that his attempts have failed. "You can't stay mad at her forever. Maybe she's finally gotten the point, ya know?"
"Maybe."
"Ughhh! Kisara, why do you have such a hard head?!" They hear Mana's voice yelling from a nearby hallway.
"Don't blame me!" Kisara yells. Yugi and Atem both look at each other before quickly getting up and heading toward the source of the bickering.
"Come on you two. Chill out," Téa says, rubbing the back of her head as she stands next to Ziegfried in the hall, watching the two women go back and forth after their battle. Both are sporting greenish bruises on their foreheads after one of the larger goons they faced off against lifted them both up and collided them into each other. Such a move gave the men the opportunity to run off without being captured. Mana holds a hand up to her head as she pouts at Kisara who returns a glare.
"Hey Téa, what's going on?" Yugi asks, walking up to them along with Atem.
Téa gulps and looks away nervously. "Well…we kinda ran into some trouble at KaibaLand."
"KaibaLand? But…how? It's still closed!"
"You got way too cocky and they got away!" Kisara scolds Mana.
"Yeah, okay. Says the girl that was shooting attacks with her eyes closed!" Mana exclaims and they both growl at each other, standing only inches apart.
"Well I thought both of you displayed a great amount of strength and did an amazing job," Ziegfried compliments, causing them to turn to him. "I've never seen anything like it! I wouldn't mind seeing more of these abilities of yours."
"Don't encourage them," Atem says, his narrowed eyes briefly looking at Ziegfried before turning his sights to Mana. "How do you always manage to get dragged into these situations?" .
Mana shrugs dramatically with her arms wide and her eyes as big as they can go. "You tell me! I'm a magnet to these sorts of things. But when trouble comes, I can't help but spring into action. I just can't help it."
"So our last conversation meant nothing to you."
"Hold on," Kisara says, coming to Mana's defense. "It wasn't her fault. I'm the one that brought the trouble to her this time."
Atem's eyes widen with shock. For once, Mana isn't the cause? He looks over to his wife who has a huge grin on her face, beaming with pride. She won't be blamed for the shenanigans for a change. He feels slightly relieved, but still skeptical that such a change can happen overnight.
"Hey! Don't look so surprised!" Mana exclaims, waving her arms and he smirks a little.
"So, what exactly happened?" Yugi asks.
"I'd like to know that as well," comes Seto's voice as he walks down the hall. His eyes are first locked onto Kisara before he looks over to see an individual with pink hair. He squints his eyes to get a better look and thoughts begin to swarm his mind. Where has he seen this man before?
"Herr Kaiba," Ziegfried says with a friendly smile. "It's been awhile."
Seto narrows his eyes and stops a few feet in front of him. "You've got some nerve showing your face in here."
"Easy Seto," Kisara says walking up to stand beside him. "What's the big deal?"
"What happened?" Kaiba asks, totally ignoring her questions and she blinks, taken back by his shortness toward her.
"Some goons broke into KaibaLand. We were able to prevent them from causing any damage, but unfortunately they got away."
"And how do you come into play, Ziegfried? What exactly were you doing in my theme park?"
"Seto, he was only trying to help."
"Enough Kisara." He finds it hard to believe that is the case given their history. "Tell me the real reason why you were hanging around my park, now."
"He's snappier than usual," Mana whispers to Atem who practically mirrors his cousin's suspicious gaze at Ziegfried. This seems to be the second time he has popped up out of nowhere. Who is he?
"As your dear fianceé stated, I was only trying to help," Ziegfried explains. "I was the first on the scene."
"I know you Ziegfried. There's nothing you want more than to ruin my company and reputation," Kaiba says. Kisara looks at him questionably. She has never heard him mention Ziegfried at all. When she first met Ziegfried, he made it sound like him and Kaiba were friends. But maybe that isn't the case. "I know your behind the fiasco at my banquet."
There is a collective gasp in the room and Ziegfried simple shakes his head with a smirk. "I'm appalled that you would think that Herr Kaiba. There's nothing I want more than to see an old friend succeed."
"Whatever. Let's go, Kisara," he says, turning around to leave and Kisara obliges, turning her head one last time to look at Ziegfried. He seems like such a nice person, not to mention a gentleman. She just doesn't understand why Seto is acting this way. Could he really be behind the disaster at the banquet? Kaiba taps the communication device embedded into his jacket. "Roland, see to it that our guest doesn't get lost on their way to the exit."
"Yes sir."
"Well that was awkward," Yugi comments, walking down the hall with the others moments later.
"Yeah, it doesn't like like Kaiba is too fond of Ziegfried at all," Téa notes. "He didn't seem all that bad."
"Looks can be deceiving," Atem says.
Téa smirks, seeing that Atem and Mana are walking side by side. "So I take it Mana is off the hook?" she asks, causing Mana to jump slightly at the call of her name and she hesitantly looks over to Atem.
"Maybe."
"You hear that Mana? You got a 'maybe!' You better be on your best behavior! No chaos like today, you hear me?"
Mana grunts and side eyes Téa. "You know, I somewhat remember you shoving me out there to begin with."
"Not sure what you're talking about," Téa says, walking faster.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Mana quickens her pace to keep up as they bicker back and forth.
Yugi scratches the back of his head. "Do you think Ziegfried is as bad as Kaiba says he is? Kaiba accused him of ruining his event! That's a pretty huge accusation."
"It's hard to say," Atem replies. "Kaiba thinks everyone is after him."
"Good point," Yugi chuckles.
"But I didn't get the best vibe from him when we first met. So Kaiba's reaction may be warranted."
"Guess we just need to stay on guard and keep our eyes open," Yugi concludes and his brother nods.
