622 Full Circle
After a quick check in with General Hammond SG-1 was sent off to their medical exam, a chance to clean up and eat before a more formal debrief.
At lunch O'Neill and Carter had a chance to discuss this mission.
"I hate missions like that." O'Neill said "You have an objective. When you have your hands on it everything changes. We're dealing with people who have different and occasionally shifting loyalties and objectives, the System Lords, Anubis, the Ascended, the Abydonians and, of course, us. You've got to keep repositioning on the fly. It's not that I'm not adaptable but...shit. All those people. I don't have any idea if it was their choice."
"We don't even know if they are gone." Sam said but she had seen the clothing and weapons scattered about.
They were both pushing around their food more than eating. The thought of the death of everyone on Abydos would take away anyone's appetite.
"You seemed willing to blow up the Eye. Would you have?" Sam asked
"If I got it in their hands, yeah, but they were bluffing. They needed the Eye. What was the only thing keeping them from killing all of us? C-4."
"I guess."
"And now we have to go find some lost city. I hope Jonas manages to get an address or at least directions." Jack wasn't thrilled about that. Possibly another wild goose chase.
"What do you think happened to Daniel? Do you think he's still...alive?" Sam asked
"He screwed the rules helping us. And I don't know. Can the Ascended die? Are they alive?" Jack asked.
"I'm sorry about Skaara."
"Yeah...me too."
"Daniel said the System Lords were there to confront Anubis. But when we gave him the Eye…" Sam trailed off.
"Anubis sent them packing. That's why he wanted the Eye. And what he did to Abyos."
"Did you see any of it?" She asked.
"No, felt some of it as I was leaving."
"The shock wave was massive. You weren't hurt?"
"No. But anyone left on that planet, damn." O'Neill sighed, pushed his plate away and after tasting his lukewarm coffee pushed that away too.
"We are going to continue to attempt to reconnect." Sam tried to reassure him.
"Yeah." Jack said in a voice devoid of hope. "Debrief in 15. See you there." He said and left.
My thanks to all who have read and reviewed.
