Belligerent Beast
Chapter 1: Anger and Cowardliness
The birds chirped soundly for all living beings to hear as they cut through the sky. One bird swooped down and planted its webbed feet to the ground to rest from its flight journey, but frantically flew away once it sensed a young girl's presence. Her black hair dangled past her thin pale blue hood that displayed the words "Freeze" in a bold cursive font, while her bangs covered some parts of her blue eyes; the short hoodie that squeezed around her curves also showcased her rather toned stomach for someone her age. The black boots that she wore made heavy yet hollow thuds with each step as she carried a plastic bag filled with comics. The girl continued to draw her distance closer to the bookstore's front doors. She raised one free hand and pressed it against the sleek glass, forcing a small crystalline chime to ring above her. Her hard footsteps became silent as the pavement was replaced with a sea of blue carpet. She reached her hands into the bag to pull out her books and placed them on the counter but caught a glimpse of two pale men in black suits approaching her from behind, both wearing sunglasses that hid their eyes perfectly.
"Are you Simka Azurin, ma'am?" asked one of them.
Simka glanced up at them quizzically and slowly straightened her body.
"Yes, sir...?"
They turned their heads smoothly to look at each other, then focused on her again.
"Miss Azurin, if you could come with us for a few minutes? We'd like to ask you some questions."
Simka lifted one of her eye brows, and her eyes were glazed with suspicion. The entire situation seemed unnerving since today was a school day, and being an unruly person, she just decided to ditch...yet, at the same time, it felt sketchy...if the two men whom she was standing before were really involved with any kind of law enforcement, those would not be the suits that they would be wearing for the metropolitan city, Metrica. She hesitated for a brief second then parted her lips.
"Umm...yeah, sure," answered the tentative girl.
"Good," the man smiled. "Now, just follow us, please."
As soon as they turned around, Simka pressed her hands together in a prayer position, and a long, knife-like sword stretched extensively from the space her hands separated. She gripped the handle that was wrapped loosely with white gauze and, with no mercy, swung her sword in one clean vertical cut. The man's body split open like a melon as blood oozed and tried to connect with the walls of his organs, but...it wasn't a normal red hue...instead, it was a thick grey substance.
I knew it! They're Grizzgars, thought Simka as she yanked her sword from its body.
The store owner witnessed the gaudy scene and jumped over the counter to exit the store.
"AAHHH! AHHH! AAAAAHHHHH!" screamed the owner.
The creature hissed and fell to the floor as a ghostly purple ball hovered and vanished along with its body. Simka's glare focused on the other man whose face shaped into a wide, demonic mouth that nearly stretched to his stomach. Although its wide, carnivorous teeth were enough to fuel nightmares, this didn't seem to daunt her at all. Collecting her bravery, the girl stared at the beast as it began to charge at her, screeching monstrously. Simka sucked in a breath, somersaulted to the left, leapt, and slashed through its head, grey blood spurting upwards like a sprinkler. She landed onto the now glistening grey carpet and panted softly, observing the creature writhe and disappear along with a purple orb. The black-haired girl continued to keep her icy glare where the beasts had died..then came an unrelenting noise of wings whirring closely outside. She ran with her massive sword clutched ever so tightly. Her hand pressed against the chilled glass door, and she rushed into the parking lot only to find gigantic, hairy creatures surrounding her. Their stormy grey fur flared up as their lengthy, enormous tails swayed eagerly. Their bleached claws nearly bigger and more powerful than a dinosaur's glinted in the blazing sun. Their long, pointed ears stood tall and twitched as their noses sniffed out their enemy's scent. The creatures' faces did not contain eyes at all except snouts and snarling teeth. Simka raised her eyes to the helicopter above her only to feel her mouth become full of iron. A man in a black suit holding a cane with neat, short, black hair grinned maliciously.
"Sanctum!" cried Simka.
With his cane, Sanctum hooked the tip of the megaphone, tossed it into the air, and caught it with his white-gloved hand. He lifted it to his lips and spoke into it.
"Okay, boys! Dinner is served! ATTACK HER!" Sanctum commanded.
Like dogs, they charged at her, growling. The girl just smirked confidently.
"All right, you mangy mutts."
She leapt, uncoiled the gauze around her blade, and threw the sword, gripping the cloth. Six Grizzgars jumped after her, but when they were about to attack, the blade skewered through their stomachs. Shortly, only grey puddles formed with purple orbs hovering. Simka then pulled her sword to her side as it illuminated a ghostly blue glow around it. She arched her back in an attempt to deliver a devastating attack, the tip of her weapon touching the soles of her shoes. As she continued to fall closer to the ground, she swung the blade in front of her and hit the concrete with great force. Shards of ice flew around her as they rapidly spread, freezing rows after rows of Grizzgars. She pulled her blade out of the cracked asphalt, spun it to grasp the hilt, and stabbed it into the earth once again.
"Let's see you guys dodge this!" she yelled.
And colossal-sized ice sickles sprouted from the roots of the ground, killing the creatures until the area was emptied of them. Simka's breathing was ragged, and sweat began to pour down her face. The ice surrounding her reverted into glimmering spheres and returned to her weapon. She raised her vicious blue eyes to the helicopter that flew behind a tall building. Vexed, she rushed towards it, planted her foot onto a wall, and jumped onto a red and white decorated parasol. She sank into it a little before it launched her into the air and grabbed onto a steel ladder. She skipped a few steps to reach the rooftop where the helicopter hovered in place; it was as if Sanctum was waiting for her arrival.
"Whew! You sure are one goddamn pest, aren't ya, brat?" he sneered.
Simka just growled at him, making the bastard smile.
"Huh. You look just like the woman I killed years ago when you just a kid. Oh, wait...that was your mother, wasn't it? Man, she was a tasty treat for the Grizzgars!"
...that was it...something inside Simka had snapped...something destructive. Her eyes burned with hatred. The handle that she had on her weapon dyed the flesh of her palm red. She charged at the helicopter, jumped with her glowing blade to the side, and sliced at the cockpit, letting out a ferocious roar that almost did not sound human. The shattering of windows were heard as the pilot began to hiss.
"DAMN!" Simka cursed as the aircraft swerved.
Her blade was wedged into its nose while the pilots' mouths stretched wide and climbed downward to the girl clinging onto the hilt. She swing to and fro until the sword freed itself, flung her body above the rotating wings, nearly missing her, and threw the weapon into the center of the helicopter. The sword whistled in the air until it slashed though the craft and exploded, allowing it to bounce back into her hand.
"AH! YOU LITTLE-!" screamed Sanctum as he fell with the crashing vehicle.
It was Simka's turn to smile victoriously as she fell, looking down at her work.
"Heh!" the girl laughed.
She landed on a nearby rooftop before jumping down to land on the asphalt, but her smile fell when Sanctum emerged from the heaps of metal on a circular hover board while two purple orbs floated and vanished.
"Ya know, kid, you're pretty annoying, but when I come back, I'll be damn sure to kill you!" he bellowed.
"Bite me, bastard!" roared Simka.
With that, the adversary retreated into the sky, leaving the heroin alone. She heaved a sigh as she placed the sword between her hands and pushed them together, allowing it to disappear.
"Well...that happened. Now, time to get back to school befor-"
But she was cut short as crowds of people encircled her in awe, admiring her heroic deed; she even heard one kid ask if he could have her picture, which secretly flattered her. Mutterings of appraisal started to soar, making her blush, but her seconds of fame were interrupted by a red-haired woman who wore a pink blouse and a pitch black skirt that hung barely past her knees. Her black heels clicked the pavement quite audibly, meaning she was livid. Simka expected this sort of behavior since she was the dean of her school, Knightswing Academy; every student who yearns to become a soldier studies its subjects in order to rid the world of Grizzgars. The head assistant glared at the girl through her clear spectacles, making her shudder.
"M-Ms. Sid! Look, I know this looks bad and all, but before you do anything drastic, I just wanna say that if it weren't for me cutting school, Sanctum would've totally destroyed all of Metri-"
"I don't want to hear any of it," Ms. Sid finished gravely as she waved her stick to summon a zipper to place over her mouth.
Simka tried to unzip it but failed as it was sealed tightly. The blonde assistant grabbed her wrist firmly and dragged her into a black portal she had opened, and, immediately, it disappeared, leaving the crowd dumbfounded.
"DESTROYING HALF OF THE CITY AND NEARLY TURNING IT INTO RUINS! HOW RECKLESS OF YOU, MS. AUZRIN!" Ms. Sid scolded, making Simka wince.
"Okay, first, I didn't destroy anything. Except Sanctum's helicopter. Second, everyone's completely safe from harm! It's not like anyone was killed or anything!"
"Even so," Ms. Sid pressed on, "you've managed to cause a lot of commotion among civilians. There are already newspapers with YOUR face in it. We'll never hear the end of it!"
Simka rolled her eyes in response. What a drama queen, she thought and chuckled under her breath, eliciting a cold glare from the sorceress.
" Is there something you find amusing?" she snapped.
"N-no..." she stammered through stifled laughter.
The dean growled and slammed her hands on the desk, startling Simka.
"MS. AUZRIN! PLEASE TAKE THE MATTER SERIOUSLY!"
"..."
The girl just lost it at that point and burst into laughter until tears streamed from the corners of her eyes. It was just so much fun teasing the irritated woman, and the best part was that she took her job way seriously!
"All right, all right, I'll stop!" she wheezed. "But c'mon! If I hadn't have ditched school, the city would've been crawling with Grizzgars, and you know that!"
"Yes, and what I DO know is that you're still an inexperienced child who has a lot to learn about being a soldier," she countered.
Simka's temper began to brew.
"Inexperienced? Ms. Sid, I just fought a bunch of Grizzgars and Sanctum minutes ago singlehandedly, and you call THAT inexperienced? I train long and hard DAILY, keyword, DAILY, to develop my spiritual powers in order to keep everyone and everything safe," she stated.
Ms. Sid sighed and walked around her desk to stand over her. She placed a hand on her shoulder along with a concerned expression.
"Simk-"
Simka forcefully pushed her arm away and swiftly stood up.
"DON'T TOUCH ME! I'M SICK OF YOU ALWAYS SAYING HOW I'M INEXPERIENCED, NOT READY, OR DESTRUCTIVE! I CAME TO KNIGHTSWING TO SAVE THIS WORLD, MS. SID! THIS! WORLD! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH COURAGE I HAVE TO HAVE TO DO THIS EVERY DAY?!"
"AND THAT'S WHY YOU'RE STILL INEXPERIENCED, SIMKA! YOU LACK COURAGE BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST! NO, IN FACT, IT'S NOT JUST COWARDLINESS, BUT IT'S ALSO ANGER! YOU MUSN'T LET YOUR EMOTIONS GET THE BETTER OF-!"
Simka pounded her fist on the desk.
"SHUDDUP! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!"
NO, SIMKA! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT! YOU'RE ONLY OUT TO SEEK VENGEANCE, NOT PROTECT THE WORLD LIKE A SOLDIER SHOULD! IF THAT ISN'T SO, THEN PROVE ME WRONG!"
...silence prevailed for what seemed like an eternity as the two glared at each other. Simka removed her fist from the desk, placed both hands on the back of the chair, gripped its plastic back, and threw it against the shelves where awards once sat but clattered onto the floor; some had even shattered. She then walked out of the office and slammed the door, leaving the dean speechless. She had a crestfallen look on her face and leaned forward with her hand supporting her head. She sighed heavily.
"How troublesome..."
The way I jump from story to story, whew chile! Anyways, I kinda based this idea off of RWBY and Final Fantasy, and this is what I came up with (please don't hurt me; I'm just a huge fan.) I know this story sucks so far since I wrote it in like 10th grade, but I figured what the hell, I'll just post it.
