After she was freed from her slumber from the one being known as the Dragonborn, Serana assisted him in taking down the man who was once her father, Harkon.
Isran thanked her for her efforts and allowed her to stay in the Fort Dawnguard on the condition that she not bite anyone.
While she and the Dragonborn traveled together they had developed feelings together. Unfortunately she refused his request to marry him as temples scare her. She gently turned him down and he accepted and respected her reason before telling her that he'll be heading towards Solstheim to deal with a certain Miraak.
The Dragonborn. His gruff and blunt tone with her and overall serious demeanor but he does have a playful streak about him sometimes. What she learned from him is that he is known everywhere in Skyrim besides being the Dragonborn. She hasn't seen his face whenever they're traveling due to the Daedric helmet he wore.
Although he was an intimidating sight with that Daedric Armor set of his, he's actually a kind man at heart and allowed her to speak her mind on things. He told her that he sided with Ulfric Stormcloak during her awakening. On the times where she saw him without his armor is back at his home of Winstad Manor. His blue sharp and alert eyes and muscular body that can make any woman fall for him if he wished. His white hair matching his fair Nordic skin.
Thing is, he's still single.
Serana sighed. She got along with most of the members of the Dawnguard. She tried to play a prank on Isran because he says that sleep is for the weak and got a warhammer to the throat and a threat from him when he proved his maxim of sleeplessness is true. She also bathed with the females as she hasn't done so since the whole nasty prophecy business with her mother.
Speaking of her mother, she and the Dragonborn told her of Harkon's demise, Valerica is grateful and went back from Soul Cairn. Thanks to the Dragonborn's words, Valerica knew how selfish she was with her daughter Serana.
Right now she is mixing potions at an alchemy table. She has been thinking of the Dragonborn's face since he left for Solstheim.
"Friend Serana, I have noticed that you are making more poisons and potions than I made and they're flooding the floor." The speaker to Arkay named Florentius commented.
Serana snapped out of her thoughts as she looked at him. "I'm alright. Just have a lot of thoughts in my head. That's all."
Florientius raised an eyebrow at that. "Is it about the Dragonborn and his proposal to you?"
Serana sighed and said. "Yes. I've been thinking about it and I can't clear my mind off of it." She kept grinding and mixing the mixtures with greater force.
Florentius made an intelligent guess as he picked up a bunch of potions, gave some to Dawnguard members in passing and placed them on a shelf. "I believe that it's love you're experiencing."
Serana stopped. Florentius is right, she's in love with the Dragonborn but as she explained to him, she's too afraid to ask a godly creature for a blessing and is uncomfortable in temples.
Suddenly Gunmar walked and nearly stumbled on a potion. "What's with all these potions doing on the floor?"
Florentius explained. "Our vampire friend is in love with the Dragonborn."
Serana blushed at that but before anyone can say anything the Dragonborn's normal voice boomed the halls of the Fort. She ran a little too eagerly to see him. He's in his Daedric Armor as usual but she noticed a shield and a sword that looked to be of ice.
The Dragonborn took off his helmet and said. "Hello Serana. I just finished taking down Miraak and I'll go to Isran to finish an assignment. Let's travel together."
She nodded a little too eagerly and accompanied him to Isran who told him to see Gunmar. The man told him that they must destroy a vampire in a cave.
They left Fort Dawnguard and the Dragonborn asked in the middle of their travels. "Something in your mind Serana?"
Serana didn't look at him as she said. "If we can, I'd like to visit my mother."
The Dragonborn didn't ask and simply replied. "Okay."
They went to Castle Volkihar. Whatever memories that Serana remembered were outweighed by the bad memories there. They arrived at Valerica's laboratory where Serana called out for her and she gently dropped her ingredients, ran to her daughter and embraced her.
"Serana! My daughter! You've come for me even though my actions are enough for you to hate me!" Valerica sobbed, hugging her daughter.
Serana's eyes filled with unshed tears but she pushed them back with great effort. She hugged back and told her mother. "Mother, we need to talk. It's about me and him."
She let go of her daughter and knew that it's about the Dragonborn. The man standing with his arms crossed and nodded.
She and Serana sat on the table, drinking tea while the Dragonborn paced around leisurely while holding a bottle of Black-Briar mead.
Serana started the conversation while Valerica sipped her tea. "How do I start this, he and I have been traveling together so much, I cared for him as much as he cares about me. I know that he'll do anything to protect me and I'm grateful for that but when he showed an Amulet of Mara to me, I refused his proposal."
Valerica finished her tea and replied. "He did and you declined?" When Serana nodded, she exclaimed. "But honey, he's perfect for you."
The Dragonborn fired back from his position. "Says the protective vampire mother to the vampire slayer." Valerica looked at him with a line on her lips. The Dragonborn simply drank from his mead.
Serana stifled a laugh at the Dragonborn's quips. Valerica turned to her daughter and pointed out. "If anything, I was hoping you two would settle down, form a family together and have kids. I mean it's marriage!"
The Dragonborn teased. "So you wanna be a grandmother already?"
Valerica blushed and asked him. "Do you really love my daughter?"
The Dragonborn replied unhesitatingly. "I do. That's why I presented my Amulet of Mara to her. I'd show it to you but I left it at my home. I'm wearing an Amulet of Talos now."
Valerica inquired further. "Why can't you two just be married? It's not that difficult to ask a priest to host a ceremony isn't it?"
The Dragonborn sighed, finished his mead and then replied. "It's not difficult to ask a priest but the problem lies with your daughter. She told me before I left for Solstheim that she doesn't want to go to temples as they unnerved her very much. Besides even if I can get the ceremony part right, I have to send couriers to EVERYONE in Skyrim."
He rambled angrily but not to them. "How was I supposed to put on the headlines on every letter I'm going to send to my allies and all the holds in Skyrim? 'Dragonborn and Volkihar Vampire Princess wedding at the Temple of Mara' that's one headline that no one's going to believe! Besides imagine all the talk the people are going to be whispering behind your daughter's back when they find out that someone as famous as me is married to a vampire like her! It's bad enough she's cursed by Molag Bal but she has to spend her life running and being used for selfish purposes! She will spend the rest of her life being ridiculed for being a vampire by the people! Is that such a happy ending for Serana?!"
Valerica was ready to shoot back a response in her daughter's defense but Serana said in defeat. "He's right mother. What he said is exactly what I feared. I'm too afraid of temples and now he says that. Now I'm too scared to even love him. I don't know what do.." Her tears burst over and a few let out.
Valerica went to her daughter and wiped her tears with her thumb. Then she gently lifted her daughter's chin to look at her in the eye. "You and him are right. I don't have the right to say those things after what happened." Then she cupped her daughter's cheeks and said. "But in all those things, I always want you to be happy. I know that these last few centuries were harsh on you and I cannot ask you for forgiveness but I know one thing I can do to make it up to you: I will assist you in the Dawnguard."
Serana was shocked and her thoughts were immediately voiced out by the Dragonborn. "Are you kidding!? Did I hear you say you want to help the Dawnguard?!"
Valerica stood up and walked to the Dragonborn. "Yes. To support my daughter, I will support the Dawnguard. Please take me to them, I've been hiding for too long."
The Dragonborn looked at Valerica through his Daedric helmet as if she'd grown a second head. "Are you out of your mind?! The Dawnguard will sooner pin your body to a wall with crossbow bolts than to hear what you're going to say!"
Valerica pointed out, hands waving at her daughter. "The Dawnguard accepted Serana did they not?"
The Dragonborn facepalmed at his helmet. "Yes they did but it was only after she aided them against Harkon. Believe me, they are really distrustful of her and told me to 'keep it on a tight leash'."
Valerica is still persistent as she said. "I helped you and Serana out by letting you have the Elder Scroll. That may not be good enough but I'm not changing my mind. Please take me to the Dawnguard."
The Dragonborn made an irritated sigh as he sees no point in arguing with this woman. He muttered grumpily. "Isran is going to kill me."
Valerica heard it and asked. "Isran?"
Serana piped in. "Leader of the Dawnguard, former Vigilant of Stendarr, HATES sleeping and vampires."
The Dragonborn declared. "All right, I'll take you there Valerica. But your daughter's going to have to explain why she's bringing another vampire to the Dawnguard's headquarters." He turned to leave. "Pack up whatever things you'll need then meet me at the boat."
As he left, Valerica asked her daughter. "Is he really that gruff?"
Serana only shrugged.
They met up at the boat next to the castle. There, the Dragonborn stirred it with Valerica and Serana in tow. Once they made it to the other side next to Northwatch Keep, they heard the distinctive roar of a dragon.
The Dragonborn mused. "Well, it's time to get me a ride. And you two, horses." As he looked at the dragon with a calculating gaze.
It was a Revered Dragon.
The dragon hovered over the group. Serana and Valerica looked at it, spells ready but the Dragonborn just stood there looking at it without unsheathing his sword and shield. Then the dragon made a Shout with the Dragonborn doing the same.
GAA...LAH...HAS!
GOL...HAH...DOV!
Drain Vitality and Bend Will shouts hit the dragon and the Dragonborn. The Dragonborn staggered and hissed in pain of being drained while the dragon landed softly in front of him.
"Hail thuri. Shall we fly together?" It asked in its deep voice.
To both women's surprise, he rode on top of its head. His hands turned purple and cast it near them revealing two identical skeletal horses.
"Alright girls, let's head to Solitude first. Follow me." The Dragonborn ordered as the Revered Dragon lifted off.
Serana and Valerica rode on those skeletal horses, both of them amazed that the Dragonborn can tame dragons.
Valerica asked. "Did you know he could do that?"
Serana shook her head. "I did not. He did not take me with him to this Solstheim he spoke of."
Her mother asked further. "And what are these horses he summoned for us?"
Serana answered as she galloped her horse to follow the dragon. "These here's Arvak. The Dragonborn and I encountered a soul searching for it while we were looking for you. We found his skull and the soul taught him to summon Arvak so that he can travel with him in either on Soul Cairn or here in Skyrim."
Valerica simply said. "I see." As she rode after her daughter.
The ride lasted for a full hour without interruptions. They happened to ride to a town where they found some sort of stone bridge with the Dragonborn's Revered Dragon perched on it.
The Dragonborn called out from his position. "This here's Dragon Bridge. Obviously named after this very bridge my dragon's perched on. Just follow the road and we'll get to Solitude in no time." Then the Revered Dragon flew off and headed to the Hold's direction.
Serana and Valerica continued to ride down the road the Dragonborn directed them and before the hour's out, they arrived at the hold of Solitude.
Serana and Valerica dismounted and Arvak(s) were dispelled after five seconds. They entered the city where they saw the Dragonborn slide off of the Revered Dragon perched on the city's walls.
He said as they are walking down the grounds. "Welcome to Solitude, home of the Bards College and the Imperial power. Well that's before I helped Ulfric storm the city and kill General Tulius. Now the Stormcloaks occupy this place and it's all thanks to me."
Valerica asked. "How did you take control of that dragon?" Serana looked at him as she wanted to know too.
He answered. "It's a shout called Bend Will that one of the Daedric Princes Hermaeus Mora gave me. It allows me to tame dragons enough to ride them."
Serana looked intrigued by it and asked as an idea popped in her mind. "Can't you have that dragon of yours carry all three of us at once?"
The Dragonborn shook his head. "I don't think he'll like that. You should know that dragons are not pets, they also have their own minds same as us."
Valerica mused. "You said there is a Bards College. You've been there before?"
He nodded and answered. "Yes. I even became a student there."
While walking, the Dragonborn walked backwards and ended up bumping into Viarmo and his colleagues.
"Oh hello there!" Viarmo greeted.
"Oh Viarmo! Sorry for bumping you and the teachers here." The Dragonborn apologized.
"It's alright. I'm not too bothered by the fact that Stormcloaks are here but they don't seem to like the sight of an Altmer as the headmaster of the Bards College."
The Dragonborn introduced the vampires. "This is Viarmo. Headmaster of the Bards College."
Viarmo simply said. "Pleased to meet you." They nodded.
Serana asked. "How does one become a member?"
Viarmo answered. "We usually ask applicants to perform a task vital to the college. Not many that applied actually did get in."
The Dragonborn snorted and quipped. "More like delving into a crypt on your lonesome to find a verse that may or may not be there."
Viarmo sheepishly said. "That's what I asked this man to do. Turns out he already went and retrieved the verse. It was thanks to him that an event that is most important to the Bards College is allowed by the Jarl."
The Dragonborn decided to end the meeting. "Anyway, we have to go now. See you later."
Viarmo gave his farewell. "May song speed you along."
Valerica inquired. "Where can I find a shop that sells potions?"
The Dragonborn pointed to a shop as he said. "Angeline's Aromatics. Angeline Morrard can help you."
Valerica thanked him then went inside. Serana and the Dragonborn walked together for a bit, spoke to Jarl Elisif and Falk Firebeard then went back. They met up with Valerica and walked towards the Winking Skeever.
It was evening and many people were there to take a break. Valerica and Serana sat on one desk while the Dragonborn can be seen giving some items to Galum-Ei and getting paid for it. They drank some tea together while they heard the bard Lisette singing 'The Dragonborn comes' with everyone clapping and the Dragonborn drinking alongside Belrand and holding him with one arm.
They decided to retire for the night. The Dragonborn rented a room for the two vampires while he went to Proudspire Manor to sleep.
Valerica held her daughter on her arms as they shared the same bed. She mused the events that happened during her long life. Turns out a lot has changed since her imprisonment at the hands of the Ideal Masters. All it took was her daughter and one stranger to prevent that twice-dammed prophecy from happening and she hoped that it won't come to pass. Now she had a second chance at being a mother to Serana and she isn't planning to waste it.
Valerica and Serana woke up, feeling revitalized and left the Winking Skeever. Sure enough they saw the Dragonborn standing outside and they walked to the stables. He paid the carriage driver to take them to Morthal while he followed via Revered Dragon that is waiting for him.
They arrived at Morthal where Valerica can sense a vampire presence. She noticed and asked a nearby guard. "What's with that burned down house?"
The guard shook his head and answered. "It's bad luck to talk about that place. Jarl sent someone who ain't superstitious to investigate. The Dragonborn can tell you more."
The Dragonborn landed his Revered Dragon down and said. "What he said. The Jarl has me investigate the place. Turns out a vampire named Alva intended to enslave the place to make it a blood farm. She enslaved Hroggar's mind and had him guard her coffin. Then she had her servant Laelette kill Hroggar's family. She did it by burning the house down. I found out her plans, went into the vampire's lair and killed Movarth, the leader of the coven."
Serana added. "I was there mother, helping him out against the other vampires. The Jarl formed a militia to back him up but only a lumberer named Thonnir went with him while the rest just cowered and left."
The Dragonborn summoned two Arvak(s) again for Serana and Valerica to ride on and had his dragon fly up. They traversed the marsh and went into the snowy areas of Windhelm. They are currently staying in the White Phial where Valerica is staying to collect materials and surprisingly also teach Quintus Navale some alchemy tricks.
Valerica inquired. "So this very shop is named after the very thing your master sought after?"
Quintus nodded. "Yes. My master discovered its location but he's too sick to make the trip himself. The Dragonborn here retrieved it and helped me repair it. We managed to get it to Nurelion just in time for him to see it before he died."
The Dragonborn added. "I still have it. Here, you can examine it if you want." He tossed the White Phial to Valerica and she examined it with an alchemist's eye.
Valerica smiled while examining it. It truly is a work of art for an alchemist such as herself. She read stories that it is able to refill the tonic it contains once a day. Satisfied, she tossed it back to the Dragonborn.
They left the shop and entered the Palace of the Kings as the Dragonborn explained. "See that man sitting on a throne? That's Ulfric Stormcloak. Leader of the Stormcloak rebellion. Truthfully I only joined because I want to fight the Empire."
Serana pointed out. "But you told me that Ulfric will be High King when you woke me up."
The Dragonborn shrugged. "True, I know I said that and I meant it."
Valerica mused. "I heard some people talking about Talos and the Empire. This civil war is about the murder of the High King and Ulfric's bid to be High King. It's said that he 'nearly shouted Torygg to pieces.'"
The Dragonborn replied. "That term is redundant. I know all the types of shouts and Ulfric can use only two of them and they don't do enough damage to kill. That guy can use the thu'um, not as good as me but he can use it. He just knocked down Torygg and stabbed him with his sword."
Valerica asked. "How do you know that?"
He only shrugged. "Straight from the man himself. Let's go to Whiterun."
Once again, Valerica and Serana rode on Arvak while the Dragonborn led the way with his Revered Dragon.
On the road to Whirerun, mother and daughter were attacked by random animals but there's nothing they couldn't handle. Unfortunately a group of vampires attacked them and the Dragonborn aided them a bit by ordering his dragon to take out the stronger vampires as he wanted to see how Valerica fights in battle. Her fighting style is similar to Serana's: frost and lightning spells along with necromancy mixed in. He made a mental note to forge a ring, a circlet and a necklace for her. The only thing that was unexpected was an Ancient Dragon coming in to fight.
Revered vs Ancient. Despite the advantage of Drain Vitality the Revered used, the Ancient proved to be dangerous thanks to its evasive maneuvers and its fire breaths countering the Revered's frost resistance. Sadly, the Revered died trying to bite the Ancient but it did manage to injure the Ancient enough to ground it permanently, allowing the Dragonborn to avenge it and kill the Ancient with his Stalhrim sword.
To Serana and Valerica, they watched from below after they killed the attacking vampires. It was a wondrous and amazing sight to see two massive beasts flying. It came to an end when the frog like dragon died first then the menacing bronze dragon died next. They ran to the Dragonborn who was staring at the two bodies which are currently having their flesh peeled off and then moderately turned to flames as they magically transferred to the Dragonborn, leaving behind skeletal remains.
To Serana, this wasn't a surprise as she had seen him do it a lot of times. To Valerica, this was her first time, seeing him kill dragons and absorbing their beings.
Seeing Valerica's look he commented. "From the look of your face, you don't know what a Dragonborn is right?"
Valerica shook her head and said. "No, I read about them but I never expected that you of all people would be one." She looked at her daughter. "So he's really..."
Serana smiled at her mother. "Yes mother. He's the Dragonborn."
Valerica commented. "And you killed those two dragons right? I can say that is really impressive."
The Dragonborn nodded and replied. "I killed plenty of them. They're basically flying vermin that I kill so many I lost count. I even defeated Alduin, the strongest of them all."
Valerica's eyes went wide at that. The Dragonborn killing those beasts and saying them as casually if he's done it before. She made a mental note to get to know him as he is the one Serana trusted the most.
The Dragonborn declared. "Let's keep going. We're almost there to Whiterun."
They walked towards Whiterun and entered its gates. Valerica felt a rush of freedom in her being. Serana mused. "If I ever wanted to settle down, I'd picked this hold or maybe through Riverwood."
The Dragonborn told Valerica. "I saw your combat style below the skies and it's similar to your daughter's. I'll make some jewelry with some enchantments for your benefit."
Valerica's eyes went wide again. "You are great at smithing and enchanting?"
He smirked behind his helmet. "Of course! I can smith and enchant anything. You just watch." Then they walked toward Nazeem who said. "Do you get to the Cloud District very often? Oh what am I saying-"
"Of course you don't." The Dragonborn angrily cut him off as he shoved the stunned Redguard aside as they're crossing the marketplace.
"That was quite rude." Valerica commented.
Serana just snorted. "Oh please. Every time we go here, that man always said the same exact same line to the Dragonborn every time they crossed paths."
Valerica asked. "And what's this Cloud District?"
The Dragonborn stopped for a bit then turned around to answer. "To answer that, there are three districts her in Whiterun: The Plains, the Wind and the Cloud Districts. The Plains District is where we're standing on. The Wind District is purely residential while the Cloud District is Dragonsreach where the Jarl's court resides." They climbed the stairs and then another stairs leading to Jorrvaskr then pointed at the castle. "See that? That's Dragonsreach. I'll take you girls there after I've forged the accessories."
They walked up to the Skyforge where they saw Eorlund Gray-Mane working there. The Dragonborn asked. "Is it okay if I use your forge for a bit?"
The man replied. "Sure." Then he went to the grindstone.
The Dragonborn began using the Skyforge while the two vampire women observed. He carefully made a Silver and Sapphire Circlet using the jewelry he had while looting chests as well as a Silver Amethyst Ring and then finally Silver Emerald Ring with great precision worthy of a blacksmith. Serana crossed her arms and just watched while Valerica was entranced at how the Dragonborn can easily craft such refined jewelry as if it's a simple sport.
The Dragonborn carried the jewelries still hot from the forge as he said. "Let's head to Dragonsreach. The Arcane Enchanter will enchant these for you Valerica."
The three walked towards Dragonsreach where Valerica was once again astonished at the sight of it. They went to Farenhar Secret-Fire's workplace and the Dragonborn began working on the Arcane Enchanter.
Serana just crossed her arms and waited beside the Dragonborn while Valerica looked over his shoulder to see the enchantments putting on his, on her, jewelry.
Ring- Fortify Conjuration, Fortify Destruction Necklace- Fortify Majicka, Resist Fire Circlet- Fortify Majicka Regen, Fortify Detruction
He used two Black Soul Gems with Grand level type and he pulled out an item that Valerica didn't believe that existed but have read it in books.
Azura's Star. (Currently Grand soul type)
She said in astonishment. "That's Azura Star...you have such a beautiful artifact in your hands..."
The Dragonborn ignored her as he used it to enchant the circlet and the two Black Soul Gems for the ring and the necklace.
When that is done, the Dragonborn presented the items to her. "Go ahead. Try them on."
She thanked him and wore the ring first, then the necklace and then put the circlet on her forehead. It felt exhilarating, as if she can cast more spells than she normally would. She felt like she can take on more animals or other vampires.
Or Harkon.
She smiled at him and said. "I like the enchantments you put in them. Thank you."
The Dragonborn made a slow nod then she asked. "So you put TWO enchantments on these items?" He nodded again and she was impressed. "I must admit, I didn't expect you to have a proficiency to it. I took you for a warrior type."
"I am." He confirmed and they are leaving Dragonsreach. "But enchanting can be helpful in traveling. My armor is fitted with enchantments befitting my fighting style."
She inquired. "Did you craft anything for Serana?"
He shook his head. "For the ring and necklace, I looted it off of Harkon when we killed him then I sold them for much better versions. For the circlet, I gave it to her as a gift given to me by former Arch-mage Savos Aren."
Serana added. "It's true mother. My circlet has a lot of Majicka in it. So much that I can use a lot of spells before needing to recharge."
They entered the Bannered Mare where it's evening and everybody's inside. The Dragonborn ordered Surilie Brothers Wine and asked Serana what she wants.
"I'll just take Black-Briar Mead." Serana requested.
"I don't know what beverages I want but I'll take whatever Serana's ordering." Valerica added.
The Dragonborn ordered two Black-Briar Meads and then gave them to Serana and Valerica. He sat next to Valerica in one of the benches.
Valerica inquired. "What other skills are you proficient in?"
He shrugged. "I'm quite adept in magic and sneaking if I have to but I'm mostly warrior type as I carry a sword and a shield. Used a mace too but that's if the enemy's a tough nut to crack."
Valerica nodded in intrigued. "So tell me. As a mother, how are you worthy of my daughter?"
The Dragonborn shrugged. "Aside from being Dragonborn? I'm the Harbinger of the Companions, Arch-mage of the College of Winterhold, Guild Master of The Thieves Guild, slayer of the Dark Brotherhood, thane of all the holds here in Skyrim, champion of ALL the Daedric Princes. I'd go on about my titles but I'm sure I'd bore you."
Valerica's jaw was hanging down then she brought it up to close her mouth. She commented. "That's a lot of achievements. I can't believe I'm saying this but you are more than worthy of my daughter. I suppose I don't need to warn you what happens if you break her heart?"
He shrugged as if that meant nothing to him. "I'm a werewolf. I read that when werewolves mate, they mate for life and they are devoted to their mates throughout their lifetime and they make love to their mate as if it will be their last. Besides, I can never betray your daughter. I have my Nordic honor after all."
Valerica merely raised an eyebrow at that. "A werewolf...I won't comment on that as it is none of my business."
The Dragonborn nodded as he gulped his drink. "Good."
Then they saw a man talking to Serana. Valerica asked a little suspiciously. "Who is that man talking to Serana?"
The Dragonborn replied casually. "That's Mikael, a bard here in the Bannered Mare. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that he is hitting on your daughter."
No sooner had the Dragonborn said those words that Valerica stood up and confronted the bard. She said sternly. "Excuse me?"
The bard looked around and she interrogated. "May I ask what is it you're doing here?"
Mikael replied. "Just presenting this lovely lady sitting one of my poems for her beauty."
It only angered Valerica more as she asked harshly. "Are you flirting with my daughter?"
Mikael was surprised and asked in a confused tone. "Wait? That's your daughter? But you both look of the same age."
Valerica became angry and accused. "Yes, that's my daughter and yes I believe that you are flirting at her."
Mikael tried to smoothly cool the situation down. "If that case, I must ask for your patience since I'm presenting my beautifully crafted speech to your daughter here."
At this point, all hell broke loose. Valerica grabbed Mikael by the collar and threw him around the place and pounced on him. Mikael managed to kick her away with his feet but Valerica was relentless in her assault and tried to push her Glass dagger into his chest but a hand from the Dragonborn stopped her.
"Ok, that's enough. He's beat, no need to kill him." The Dragonborn said holding her wrist.
"Are you siding with that pervert?! Do you know what he's doing?!" Valerica demanded, glaring at the Dragonborn.
The Dragonborn answered. "I'm not. I'm saying this because of you. If you kill him, the guards will come after you and a bounty will be placed in your head. Besides, your daughter's not the first woman Mikael's hit on."
Valerica looked at the Dragonborn.
He continued. "See that woman with a child next to her? She asked me to get Mikael to leave her alone. Talk to her, she knows what it's like to get hit on by that bard. Okay?" He pointed at Carlotta Valentia and her daughter Mila sitting on a chair next to a table.
While that's going on, Mikael backed away and saw Serana looking down at him with arms crossed.
Mikael asked. "I know I got kicked out of because of a misunderstanding with a headmistress but this is probably going to haunt me. Is she really your mother?"
"Yes." Serana replied.
After telling Valerica to see Carlotta Valentia, the Dragonborn lifted Mikael up who asked. "What did I do to anger her?"
The Dragonborn shrugged. "Guess she doesn't like the fact that you're hitting on her daughter."
Valerica greeted Carlotta and asked. "The Dragonborn sent me to ask you about Mikael."
Carlotta beamed and placed a plate for her daughter to eat a meal on. "When he first went here, I complained about Mikael and he got that bard to leave me alone...using his fist."
Valerica nodded and looked at Mila who was happily eating her supper as she asked. "So this girl is your daughter?"
Carlotta nodded and said. "My little Mila sometimes plays with the other kids and helps me with the stall. Why are you asking?"
Valerica confessed. "My daughter is grown up and hasn't had a great childhood because of me and that vile fanatic I once called a husband. Do you have any advice about daughters?"
Carlotta made into a thinking pose and answered. "I'm not sure about how to raise grown up daughters but I can say this: You should let your daughters make their own decisions but don't be afraid to be firm about it. Always make sure that you are always willing to listen to their opinion in matters and support them however you can."
Valerica thought of it. Her decision to support the Dawnguard has been purely for her daughter. The Dragonborn did tell her that he won't betray Serana and has proved it by killing Harkon and allowing her to travel with him so far. She said to Carlotta. "Thank you for your advice. I'll be going now." Then she joined her daughter and the Dragonborn.
Once again, the Dragonborn rented a room for him while he slept at Breezehome. Valerica reflected on what Carlotta said. She admitted that the shopkeeper's points are good and hope that she can apply them in the near future.
The next morning the two vampires saw the Dragonborn talking to Fraila Gray-Mane and Eorlund Gray-Mane. Judging from the old woman's expression that the message the Dragonborn is giving them is good news.
Valerica asked. "What's going on?"
Serana answered. "From what I hear, the Dragonborn told Fraila Gray-Mane that her long lost and recovered son has joined the Stormcloaks and helped him in several battles against the Imperials. He also told her that her sons will be coming home now that the war is over." That last part she recently added as Fraila hugged the Dragonborn's torso and happily spread the news to her husband who didn't say anything but merely patted the Dragonborn on the shoulder.
When they saw the Dragonborn walk to them, Serana asked. "So what's the deal with the Gray-Manes?"
The Dragonborn answered. "The prodigal sons are returning. I have told Fraila that her sons will be coming home before lunch, even gave her a message only she can decipher to prove it."
Later at 11 in the morning, the entire Gray-Mane family properly groomed themselves and even Vignar temporarily retired from his duties to attend. The Dragonborn, Serana and Valerica also attended. Then the gates are opened by Stormcloaks and entering the city are Avulstein and Thorald, standing side by side.
Fraila ran to Thorald with the latter doing the same and hugged him tightly, so tight that not even the gods themselves can remove her son from her grasp.
Fraila tearfully told her son. "I was worried about you, your brother and I are. I'm so glad you're home. I'm even more happy than I'm alive."
Thorald replied. "I'm glad to be home as well mother. My thoughts were of you and it helped me push through my battles with the Imperials."
Avulstein added. "Those Thalmor bastards got him mother. But the Dragonborn busted him out with our help and he told us that you missed us."
Fraila smiled at Avulstein. "Well, you both are home. My family and I are here to receive you with open arms."
Olfina hugged the brothers and kissed them. Eorlund embraced them both while Vignar declared them as family and recognized them as citizens of Whiterun.
Finally they walked to the Dragonborn who took off his Daedric helmet. They shook hands and embraced him.
Thorald thanked him. "Once again, I thank you for breaking me free from that twice-dammed prison. I owe you my life."
Avulstein added. "We wouldn't be able to free him without your help."
The Dragonborn nodded. "You are welcome. You should go to your family and spend time together, it has been long overdue."
Thorald replied. "You're right." Then he and his brother went back to their family who went by their home.
Unfortunately a Legendary Dragon started to attack the city. The guards readied their arrows but the Dragonborn merely raised a hand to stop them. The dragon readied its shout with the Dragonborn doing the same.
GAA...LAH...HAS!
GOL...HAH...DOV!
The two shouts collided with their casters. The Dragonborn staggered while the Legendary Dragon flew around and then landed softly in front of him.
"How can I serve you, thuri?" It asked in its deep voice.
The Dragonborn climbed on its head and threw a pouch of coins to Valerica who caught it. He ordered. "Use that gold inside to pay the carriage driver and tell him to take you to Riften. That's your next destination."
Valerica nodded and she and Serana walked out of the hold and into the stables.
The Legendary Dragon lifted off and hovered above the carriage. The Dragonborn saw the vampires paying the carriage driver to take them to Riften. The carriage started moving with the dragon following them.
Seeing the Legendary Dragon flying above them Valerica sat next to Serana as they make the long trek to Rift territory. On their way to Ivarstead, Serana grew sleepy and Valerica noticed and gently lay her daughter on her lap, letting her sleep.
It was a peaceful trip, plus Valerica would stare at the forests and the Dragonborn following them through his dragon. They finally arrived at Riften where Valerica gently shook her daughter awake and the Legendary Dragon landed and the Dragonborn got off of it.
"My service to you has ended." It told the Dragonborn in its deep voice and flew away.
They entered the city where Serana commented. "This place makes me nervous." Valerica gripped her arm in a comforting manner and she held it in gratitude.
The Dragonborn replied. "You're not wrong. Watch your pockets because some thief might take something from your pocket."
Valerica asked. "Where is the shop for alchemy?"
The Dragonborn answered. "Go down the canal and look to your left. There's a door where an alchemist couple can help you."
Valerica nodded and followed the Dragonborn's directions.
The Dragonborn and Serana went to the marketplace to browse. The Dragonborn was selling his stuff to several of the merchants until they are out of gold to buy them off of. Serana felt something behind her and then immediately grabbed the threat by the shoulders and slammed that threat to the wall of the Bee and Barb.
Serana assessed the thief's appearance. It is a woman wearing some sort of black armor with a hood covering her face but Serana guessed that it's an elf. The armor she's wearing is unlike any type of armor she has ever seen and has a cape similar to hers. She then put her blade on the woman's throat and then...
"Serana! I heard a loud noise a while ago. What happened back the- Karliah!?" The Dragonborn said and instantly recognized the thief.
"Nightingale!" The woman named Karliah sputtered out from her sword tipped throat.
Serana was surprised and looked back and forth between Karliah and the Dragonborn. "Wait a second, you two know each other?!"
The Dragonborn answered. "Yes."
Serana became confused and demanded. "What is going on here? How did you two know each other?! Just what group is she affiliated with!?"
The Dragonborn rubbed the back of his head as he said. "I'll tell you, but not here. Let's travel to the Ragged Flagon, I plan on passing some jobs there." Then he ordered. "Let her go Serana. She's no threat to us."
Serana put her sword away from Karliah's throat making the Dumner woman clutch it in relief. They walked to the Ragged Flagon behind the Temple of Mara. Once they went inside, she smiled at the Dragonborn and said. "It's good to see you again Nightingale. I trust that you continue your work as a thief?"
"And I you Karliah. Yes, I'm still honing my skills as a thief. I honestly didn't expect you here or being caught by my follower here."
Karliah sheepishly said. "I guess I got caught in my pickpocketing. Care to introduce me to your friend who held my throat with a sword?
"Right." The Dragonborn answered and introduced Karliah first. "Serana, Karliah. Thief, Nightingale of Nocturnal. Keep it to yourself." Then to Serana. "Karliah, Serana. Vampire now member of the Dawnguard. Please keep it to yourself." He turned to Serana again. "Karliah saved my life by poisoning me when Mercer Fray cut me and left me to bleed out. She initiated me and Brynjolf to the Daedric Prince Nocturnal and inducted us to be Nightingales."
They both nodded to each other and decided to go to their separate ways. The Dragonborn passed his jobs to Vex and Delvin, received new ones and left the Flagon with Serana in tow while Karliah accepted more jobs from the two.
They saw Valerica at the entrance waiting and they left Riften.
The Dragonborn declared. "We're walking on foot this time. The cave leading to Fort Dawnguard is east of here."
They traveled around the Rift for a bit, fending off the occasional animal and then finally arriving near Dayspring Canyon.
Once they are nearing the Fort, the Dragonborn said. "All right, we're getting closer to the Dawnguard. Serana, the Dawnguard will be coming at your mother with weapons out so you'll be explaining to them why you brought your mother here." Serana nodded.
True to the Dragonborn's words, members of the Dawnguard did charge at Valerica with weapons out. Serana stopped them and explained Valerica's role in things. Isran is suspicious of her and warned her (and the Dragonborn in a lesser extent) that whatever business she has is Serana's responsibility.
Serana just hoped that her mother and her won't get into trouble. Whatever it is.
Well, her mother assured her that this is going to be the best time of their lives.
A few hours of adjusting to the Fort and the Dragonborn commented. "Well, that gone well. Serana I'll leave you while I attend business elsewhere. You be sure to give your mother the tour around the Fort okay?" Serana nodded and he left.
Sure enough, Serana toured her mother around the Fort, even made introduced Valerica to the members who greeted her tensely. The Dragonborn came back after finishing a Dawnguard assignment. He saw Valerica examining the weapons and armored trolls. The members were suspicious as they thought that she was spying on them but they found that she was just curious.
Valerica inquired. "May I ask what are these armored trolls for?"
Gunmar explained. "During our fights with vampires, they often had their gargoyles to support them in their defense. Those nasty buggers can leech of our health in their attacks. To counter this, I decided to have trolls be our frontline troopers against them because during my fights with them, they can hit fairly hard and absorb a good amount of punishment."
Valerica mused. "So you put in this armor so that it can withstand physical damage?"
Gunmar answered. "That's right. They've been of great help against vampires and their wretched gargoyles. I should go feed them now." Then he left.
As they are having a meal, Serana asked, "So how is your time in the Dawnguard mother?"
Valerica answered. "This place is remarkable. The weapons and armor here are exquisite and their leader has the characteristic trait of not sleeping. Childhood trauma perhaps."
Seeing the Dragonborn drinking his mead in front of them she asked. "After you and Serana left Soul Cairn with the Elder Scroll, what's your next move?"
He answered. "We went back to the moth priest, Dexion Evicus to read it. Turns out he's blind from reading the first Elder Scroll so I had to be the one to read. We followed his directions to enter a cave where I have to do a procedure in order to read it. I did do it and find out that the location is somewhere within the Forgotten Vale. Serana and I traveled there, fought Falmer and found a snow elf who requests us to kill his brother."
Valerica questioned. "Wait, A SNOW ELF? As in an actual snow elf and not a Falmer? And he asked you to kill his brother?"
The Dragonborn nodded. "You heard me. A snow elf that can talk. As for killing his brother, you should know that he got turned into a vampire when one of his initiates bit him and he started this entire gods-forsaken prophecy in order to spite his god."
Valerica was stunned and Serana added in support. "He said that he needed the blood of a Daughter of Coldharbour in order to fulfill that prophecy father was obsessed with. We told the snow elf what happened and he thanked us by giving us the bow."
The Dragonborn finished by saying. "We went back to Isran who assembled the Dawnguard and then stormed in the castle. We confronted Harkon and killed him."
Valerica nodded. "I see."
The Dragonborn declared after finishing his mead. "I'll be going somewhere again. You two play nice inside the Dawnguard, you hear?"
Serana replied. "We will. Happy Trails." Then the Dragonborn left.
A few days passed without incident but then the Dragonborn came back, took off his Daedric helmet and walked to Serana with a grim face.
He said in a loud voice. "I bring you news most dire Serana. While I was traveling around Haafingar territory, twenty vampires surrounded me and get this: your father is ALIVE and told me that he knew that you and your mother are in the Dawnguard. He also told me that he is building an army of vampires to attack the Dawnguard Fort and take you and your mother prisoner."
Serana replied wearily. "I suspected as much. While you were gone, Dexion Evicus was sick. He prophesied that my father will return and he will seek vengeance at us. He also said that a massive army of vampires will be gathering at a Fort and he will fulfill the prophecy through the blood of his daughter, meaning me. He died in his sleep after that, he never saw the sun rise."
Valerica sat next to Serana as she said. "Judging from your appearance here, I take it you survived Harkon's ambush?"
The Dragonborn nodded. "They were plenty I admit. But they are just petty, weak and their powers are pathetic compared to mine and I've been fighting vampires as much as the Dawnguard."
Isran overheard it and asked. "Where is this Fort? You said that Harkon has resurrected and he's gathering an army? We must know it's location."
The Dragonborn looked over his shoulder and replied. "I don't know yet. I'll have one of my friends scout around Skyrim and tell us which Fort the vampires are hiding in." He went outside. Serana, Valerica and Isran following him and then he put on his helmet and opened his mouth to shout...
DUR...NEH...VIIR!
The dragon of a disgusting appearance appeared in purple flames. His flesh is greatly decayed and his wings look extremely weathered. He is grey-green in complexion, and his scales are constantly dripping and oozing. Flies can be seen around his body, and yellowish drool can be seen constantly dripping from his mouth.
The dragon named Durnehviir said gratefully. "Thank you for giving me this freedom of flying in Tamriel again."
The Dragonborn said seriously. "While you are flying around Skyrim, I want you to fly over every Fort and when you see vampires inhabiting one of them, go to me and tell me the location."
Durnehviir replied. "Yes Qahnaarin. Anything for a moment of freedom in the skies of Keizzal." Then he flew off.
Isran asked. "Are you sure you can trust that monstrosity of a creature?"
The Dragonborn calmly replied. "Don't worry. He's loyal to me and I'm the only person in the world that can summon him to this world, he'll do what I say."
Isran said. "I'll hold you to that." Then he went inside the Fort.
A few days later, Durnehviir returned to the Fort and landed, the Dragonborn met him outside.
"Qahnaarin, the vampires have raised up a fortification hill due north of Windhelm, located near Japhet's Folly. They have a sizable force and are now planning an assault on Windhelm. I wish I can take you there but my time within Kaizzal has ended." Durnehviir reported then he 'died' by dispelling into purple flames.
The Dragonborn nodded. "Good enough, I'll take it from here." Then he went inside.
The Dragonborn tells Isran to gather his people and meet him near the map. Once they did, the Dragonborn announced. "Thanks to Durnehviir, we have the vampire's location: it is due north of Windhelm. We'll need ships to go to the Fort near Japhet's Folly. Thankfully, I'm in good terms with the East Empire Company and they'll lend me some ships for us to use. Now, Durnehviir said that the vampires have a sizable force waiting for us. I can enlist the aid of the Companions, the College and even the Thieves Guild to even the odds."
Florentius said. "I'm not against such an idea of having your allies aid us against vampires but how do you hope to send letters to them?"
The Dragonborn replied. "I'll have couriers bring letters to them."
Durak demanded. "Why do we need the aid of thieves against vampires?"
"Because they can steal weapons and armor from vampires without being spotted. It would give us a sure advantage."
Celann asked. "How long can the requests for aid arrive?"
The Dragonborn shrugged. "Don't know. Probably a week or more at best. Assuming the vampires don't intercept the couriers."
Isran just said. "Very well, do what you must."
Agmear gave the Dragonborn a pen and parchment which he used to write three letters to his allies. To ensure that the vampires won't read the letters, he put in vampire blood (not Serana's or Valerica's but a typical vampire) on the letter's seal and attached a fire rune on the seal. He rigged the rune to explode if a vampire touches it thanks to the blood trigger.
He hired three couriers and paid them in advance knowing that there's a probability that they can die whilst traveling. He had them sent to Whiterun, Winterhold and Riften.
(Whiterun, Jorrvaskr)
The Companions are just brawling and drinking when a courier arrived and told them that he's been sent to deliver a letter to them. Vilkas thanked the courier and read the letter.
To the Companions,
I am here with the Dawnguard and I am asking you to aid me in the name of honor to rid of Skyrim of vile creatures known as vampires. I will make sure this vermin preying on the innocent people of Skyrim is rid of and I want you to join me in the glory of destroying such evil filth from the face of Skyrim. Let us bring honor to ourselves and the people of Skyrim by ridding the world of abominations. Please come to Fort Dawnguard near Riften and I will explain more.
For honor and the Companions,
The Dragonborn, Harbinger.
Vilkas read the words aloud and everyone listened intently. The Harbinger is asking for aid against the vampires!
Aela announced. "We shall all go to Fort Dawnguard and aid the Harbinger against these wretched leeches."
Farkas added. "Never liked them. I'm glad to bring honor and destroy them at the same time."
Vilkas chimed in. "Indeed. We owe the Harbinger for bringing peace, coin and honor to this land. We will all go and help him with this glory."
(Riften, Ratway to Ragged Flagon)
The courier traversed around the sewers which are safe and then arrived at the Flagon. He saw Brynjolf and handed it to him then left where he went off. The man opened the letter and read it out loud to everyone.
To the Thieves Guild,
I know that this might seem dangerous but then again it always is in your line of work. I will require your assistance in taking down a group of vampires in the outskirts of Skyrim. I am well aware that you guys are not meant for combat but I can easily place you in a role that can profit you and make your time worth it at the same time. Just come to Fort Dawnguard and I promise you, I can make it worth your while and pay you for your trouble.
See you soon,
The Dragonborn, Guild Master
Everyone was present, even Karliah. This'll probably be outside of their paying scale but the Guild Master has done a lot for them.
Vex said. "Vampires huh? I never really cared about them and usually it's not our business but we owe the Guild Master that much."
Delvin replied. "I guess we can use this moment to cash in the many favors we owe the boss."
Brynjolf nodded and declared. "Delvin, Vex and Karliah: You three are with me. I'll also handpick additional members to come with us. This Fort Dawnguard is near here so we don't have to make a long trip."
(Winterhold, near the steps of the College)
The courier was freezing himself off near the entrance of the College when Enthir is walking to it. He gave Enthir the letter and the elf gave him a fur coat for him to warm himself off while he leaves Winterhold.
Enthir walked to Tolfdir with the letter and the man took it. He gathered Brelyna Maryon, Onmund and J'zargo and read it out loud.
Tolfdir,
If you're reading this, then the courier has successfully arrived at Winterhold and has given one of the mages this letter. I know that the College doesn't involve itself in Skyrim politics and still doesn't but the threat I'm facing is concerns all of Skyrim, not just the local Nords. As Arch-mage, I ask you to assist me in repelling the vampire threat that is planning to subjugate the Nords into their blood cattle. Please come to Fort Dawnguard and I will explain the task.
Sincerely,
The Dragonborn, Arch-mage
P.S. Please ask Faralda to provide you with fire or lightning spells if you don't know already and ask Colette to give you anti-undead spells if you haven't already.
Once he finished reading, Tolfdir looked at his students. They look eager to be able to go to another trip outside of the College.
Onmund said. "I think we should go. It's our chance to test out our spells in combat. Plus we owe the Arch-mage for helping us."
Brelyna added. "I agree. We can help the Arch-mage and learn how to fight evil creatures at the same time."
J'zargo added. "J'zargo wants to show his gratitude to the Arch-mage by helping him out in battle."
Then Tolfdir declared. "Very well then, you three will follow me to Fort Dawnguard. On our journey there, please ask Faralda, Colette and Phinis Gestor to give you some new spells to study and apply during our trip there."
(Fort Dawnguard)
A few weeks later, the various factions traveled to the Fort by way of Dayspring Canyon. Isran made sure to test every single one of them vampirism by shining a beam of sunlight on each faction in the center of the Fort. Once that's done the Dragonborn announced.
"I thank you all for coming here and I said in my letters, I will need your assistance in taking down vampires. Do not worry, I will assign you roles that best suit you." He pointed at Delvin, Brynjolf, Karliah and Vex and four other thieves. "You guys will sneak into the Fort, steal armor, weapons and potions and head back to the ship."
Vex asked. "How will stealing their stuff make a profit?"
"You can give them to those Kajiit caravans for them to sell or you can give them to our fences for extra merchandise." Then the Dragonborn pointed to Tolfdir and his students. I suppose you guys have fire and lightning spells?"
Tolfdir nodded and Onmund added. "And we got anti-undead spells ready for use."
The Dragonborn replied. "Good. You and the Companions will assist the Dawnguard against the vampires."
Aela commented. "Sounds easy enough."
The Dragonborn looked at Serana. "You and I will attack first and let ourselves get surrounded. Once they did, you will fire a Sunhallowed Elven Arrow at the sun, giving us a sure advantage."
Serana replied. "Got it." The Dragonborn had her carry Auriel's Bow for this occasion.
Valerica asked. "What about me? Harkon won't be pleased if he sees me."
"You will assist the Dawnguard and fight by their side. It will infuriate Harkon and discourage the other vampires, losing their will to fight. After all, having two vampires fighting with the Dawnguard will make other vampires nervous."
Gunmar asked. "How and where do we rendezvous to go to that Fort?"
The Dragonborn replied. "Head towards Windhelm. The guy from the East Empire Company owes me a favor and I can use that to let me burrow some of the ships docked. Any questions?" Nobody did then he said. "Alright then, let's move out."
Everyone arrived at Windhelm and the Dragonborn asked Orthus Endario and Adelaisa Vendicci if they can burrow some of the ships they have. They accepted.
The Dragonborn said as the Dawnguard, the Thieves Guild, the College and the Companions started boarding separate ships. "As for us Serana, I have a special ride." Then he prepared to shout...
OD...AH...VIING!
A few minutes later, a red dragon arrived in Windhelm and then landed in the area near the river that separates the docks and the mainland. The Dragonborn used Whirlwind Sprint to reach him while Serana swam to follow him.
"I am here, Dovahkiin." Odahviing said in its deep voice.
"Odahviing, I want to ride you again as we travel to the vampires Fort. I also like my friend to ride with me." The Dragonborn requests of him.
Odahviing's eyes looked at Serana and said. "I will carry your friend too as we fly the skies of Keizzal but I must extend the same warning I have given you, Dovahkiin." He turned his head to Serana as he said. "Once we fly the skies, your envy of the dov will only increase."
Serana looked at the Dragonborn as she asked. "What does that mean?"
"Meaning you will be jealous that dragons can fly and you can't." The Dragonborn replied as he ride on Odahviing and lifted Serana onto him.
Odahviing lifted off and the Dragonborn saw the Dawnguard and his allies already boarding the ships. He called out. "You may begin traveling to the Fort now. We will follow you."
The three ships sailed through the northern coasts while Odahviing flew with them. Serana for her part felt free and exhilarating. She wondered if this is what the Dragonborn felt when he rode for the first time. The wind is often hitting her face forcing her move her head behind the Dragonborn's for comfort. She didn't think of this but she hugged the Dragonborn's waist as she enjoyed this feeling of flying in the skies.
The Dragonborn blushed a bit from this contact and thankful for the fact that he is wearing a Daedric helmet that covers his face. He saw the ships sailing to the place near Japhet's Folly and docking at an area where the vampires won't see them. As for the Fort itself, he saw the towers that remind him of some of the ones in Skyrim. Vampires, both typical and Volkihar, patrol the surrounding areas. Harkon isn't here though the Dragonborn can guess that he must be in the fort's interiors.
"Odahviing, fly over the Fort. Once we're down, fly to the ships and assist them when I give the signal."
"As you command, Dovahkiin." Odahviing replied as he hovered above the Fort.
The Dragonborn and Serana stood on Odahviing's head and fell down, killing two vampires in the process.
Everyone in the Fort saw that and gathered around the Dragonborn and Serana. They stood back to back as they engaged the vampires. The Dragonborn relied on his sword and shields to block attack while Serana used her spells and raised the occasional dead vampire to fight for her. They both got each other's backs every time : For example, the Dragonborn used his Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow to shoot a Vampire Mistwalker behind Serana while she repaid the favor by firing a Lightning Bolt at an Ancient Vampire behind the Dragonborn.
The Dragonborn used Fire Breath shouts at two Blooded Vampires and used Soul Tear at a mortally wounded Volkihar vampire and killed her, raising her from the dead temporarily and stealing her soul. Serana used a combination of Icy Spear and Chain Lightning to kill a Nightlord Vampire, Nightmaster Vampire and a Master Vampire. She raised a Vampire Fledgling to kill a vampire next to him.
(Fort interior)
While all this is going on, Brynjolf, Delvin, Vex and Karliah and a handful of thieves snuck inside the fort's interior thanks to a weakness Vex pointed out underneath it. The thieves noticed a lot of jewelry in the chests and took them hurriedly. Brynjolf stole a number of swords, axes and maces: all elves and glass type plus the occasional ebony weapons while Delvin took the armor which is standard vampire armor though some are enchanted with spell reduction enchantments. The thieves also took any jewelry that seemed valuable to the market. They pilfered everything that isn't nailed down and even pickpocket the stuff off of sleeping vampires in the coffins, even their weapons, leaving them with nothing.
Unfortunately, a vampire outside during the fighting rung a bell in a tower and it awakened everyone. Karliah had the pleasure of stripping the man with his personal sword (the same exact one the Dragonborn took to give to Serana) and then replaced it with a lousy iron sword before she snuck out. Everyone woke up from their sleep and scrambled to arm themselves. However they could not find any of their weapons, either in their holsters or on their armories. They could not find their armor either as they are stuck in the clothing they have on their backs and they don't offer much protection. What's worse is that they couldn't find any potions that can quench their thirst for blood or enhancing their magic capabilities.
They searched around whoever stole their weapons until a female Nord vampire spotted and pointed at the thieves trying to stash their loot. Harkon and his vampires confronted the Guild but Karliah used her Nightingale Subterfuge to make the vampires temporarily turn on each other and allow the thieves to escape. Brynjolf stab a male Dunmer in the throat before catching up with the others.
Vex commented once they reached the boats. "That was a close call. Nice touch with that magic you did there Karliah."
The Dunmer woman replied. "Thank you Vex. With this loot, I suppose that this is the Guild Master's payment to us in advance."
Brynjolf declared. "Karliah, Vex, get our group out of this place. Delvin, you stay with me and we'll tell the boss that our job is done."
Delvin replied. "You got it Brynjolf."
Brynjolf and Delvin stayed behind and watched as the ship belonging to the Thieves Guild sailed away back to Windhelm. They snuck back to the other ships and told the other factions that the Guild has done their job.
(With Harkon)
The man cursed as he went back to his chambers. He managed to have followers gather his remains and then raised him back from the dead. It took him around two weeks from him to get used to his new body and to compensate for the losses back at the castle, he went to every cave in Skyrim and offered to give them his blood. He stayed true to his promise and gathered them all to his side by vowing to take vengeance on the Dawnguard, the Dragonborn and his former wife and daughter.
His wife...he can't believe that she eluded him this long. She never appeared again after she ran away from the castle but here she is, with her daughter and the wretched Dragonborn. No matter, he had taken in a new wife, a female Imperial who ask to be his concubine willingly. The woman named Emilie slept with him and then became his wife later.
Harkon mused. "So that wretched dragon has brought my estranged daughter with him to battle my forces in an outnumbered position. Then again, they both have been in danger together."
During the times he was recovering, he has been keeping tabs on his daughter. Serana has been traveling with the Dragonborn ever since being rescued and even got accepted into the Dawnguard which is highly unusual. Serana has shown signs of her friendship with the Dragonborn turning into more than just friendship. She is also seen fighting vampires, along with the Dragonborn and the Dawnguard so she knows how they work, making it a disadvantage. It is however surprising to him that the Dragonborn didn't ask her to cure herself though that is only a minor detail.
The Dragonborn...the man is famous throughout Skyrim. His agents attempted to gather more information out of him but the Dragonborn is active in taking down his spies. All he could gather from the man is that he is thane of every Hold in Skyrim. The gaps in his intel were unsettling to say the least. He has no idea what the Dragonborn's strengths, weaknesses and allies are. All that he knows for sure is that the Dragonborn is a formidable enemy.
The Dragonborn and Serana worked together to bring him down. The man even had the audacity to use Auriel's Bow at him. He promised to himself that he will have the bow and fulfill the prophecy.
He moved outside with his new wife and found the two still fighting his vampires. They saw him and he declared. "Once again, you two try to derail my plans. Now I know what you are going to ask: How did I come back to life? I tell you that one of my followers managed to gather my remains and transferred them to a dead thrall. Now I live and I have made some improvements upon my blood." He looked at his daughter. "I'm offering you one last chance to come back as my daughter. If you do, I will forgive your transgressions and I will allow you to rule by my side as father and daughter."
Serana just scoffed and replied. "You won't keep your end of the bargain for the sake of the twice-forsaken prophecy. Even if my friend here becomes a vampire, you will throw him away like yesterday's breakfast. I refuse and I like it here in the Dawnguard despite my status as a vampire."
Harkon looked at them coldly. "I knew you'd say it. The bow is with you, give it to me and I will let you leave here alive."
The Dragonborn goaded. "Try and get it then!"
Harkon commanded to his remaining vampires which are still plenty. "Take care of these two nuisances and bring me my bow!"
The Dragonborn ordered Serana as he ran his sword at the gut of a vampire charging at him. "Serana! Now!"
Serana pulled out Auriel's Bow, draw it with a Sunhallowed arrow and fired it at the sun as it is passing above them in the afternoon. The arrow hit and the sun displayed brighter than usual.
Harkon saw the sun's rays hitting his servants and demanded. "What did you do to the sun you low life scum!?"
The Dragonborn only made a smug smile. "The sun is only the beginning."
Harkon quickly realized where the Dragonborn is getting at and yelled. "KILL THEM ALL!"
(With the Dawnguard, Companions, the College of Winterhold and Brynjolf and Delvin Mallory)
The group waited impatiently though the students of the College used this time to study the tomes and learned to use them through Tolfdir's teachings.
Then suddenly a bright burst of light blazed on the sun. Isran could tell that it is the signal so he yelled out to everyone, getting their attention. "Everyone! We gather once again to combat the wretched abominations that are trying to corrupt our world! The sun is blessed with Auriel's Bow and the gods themselves looked to us to take action! These blood sucking leeches will fall and they will be nothing more than mindless beasts living in caves and then rotting and turning on each other! Let this be our finest hour as the Dawnguard, the College, the Companions and the Thieves Guild for their contribution!" Everyone made war cries at his announcement and he led the charge with the Dawnguard and the various factions behind him.
The Vampire Fledglings guarding the entrance had their stomachs run over by Farkas and Vilkas and two Blood Vampires were killed via crossbow bolts by Agmear and Ingjard. The rest of the Companions charged with greater ferocity and speed and killed eleven vampires who weren't aware of them.
Brynjolf slit the throat of a Master Vampire while he was fighting Brelyna and J'zargo. Delvin stabbed a Volkihar Master Vampire while he was attacking Onmund who is outmatched by the level of that vampire. To return the favor, Onmund summoned a Flame Atronach who shot a firebolt at a Vampire Nightstalker behind Delvin and the mage fired two more fireballs. Brelyna and J'zargo summoned Frost Atronachs and charged at the three Vampire Mistwalkers while Brynjolf backed them up. Brynjolf used the Frost Atronach's coup de grace to finish off those vampires.
The three novice mages plus Tolfdir who used Chain Lightnings and Thunderbolts to repel attackers against him helped out the Dawnguard against the magic using vampires. Meanwhile the Companions used parrying and those with shields would just block the vampire's pathetic hits then counter attack when they're tired. Aela fired an arrow hitting an Ancient Vampire's head as he readied his sword to finish off a downed Athis. Vilkas saved Ria from a Volkihar Vampire who has been freezing her with Ice Storms. Farkas helped Torvar by teaming up their punches at Master Vampire and then Torvar stunned him with a mace bash while Farkas beheaded him.
Isran smashed a Volkihar Master Vampire's skull with his warhammer and then charged at a Nightmaster Vampire and then smashed his face with his warhammer.
Gunmar ordered the three Armored Trolls he brought with the help of Mogrul and Durak to focus their attacks at the Gargoyles. Sorine Jurard, Celann and Beleval supported the trolls fighting the Gargoyles by shooting the Death Hounds charging at them with crossbows.
Valerica is with Florentius Baenius tossing potions and yelling at the wounded to come to them. Florentius yelled to Valerica. "Valerica! A vampire is firing his Frost spells at one of the Companions!"
Valerica saw and then ran and threw herself at the incoming Icy Spear, saving Njada Stonearm. It didn't even hurt as she is resistant to Frost Damage. She fired her Chain Lightning spell at the Nightlord Vampire who dodged it just in time.
"Why have you turned against Lord Harkon!?" The Dunmer vampire demanded.
Valerica spat with acid as she stabbed the throat of a Vampire Nightstalker next to her. "My fanatic fool of a husband will doom us all with that prophecy he's so obsessed with. I was not a good mother to my daughter and I doubt I can make up for that but this can be a good start."
The Nightlord tried to shoot another Icy Spear at her only to be shot in the back and killed by an Incinerate spell by Florentius.
Florentius and Valerica dragged a wounded Agmear out of the fighting and then started healing. Florentius used Restoration spells while Valerica made soft and gentle assurances at the young man who surprisingly calmed down thanks to her. Agmear got back into the fighting in no time.
The allied forces overwhelmed the vampires and charged at the second gate. Isran bust it open with a kick and saw the Dragonborn and Serana facing down the remaining vampire reinforcements. He had to admit to himself that their total vampire kill count is impressive.
Harkon and his reinforcements surrounded the Dragonborn and Serana on one side, the Dawnguard and their allies on the other.
Suddenly Harkon announced. "I wish to issue a challenge to the Dragonborn!"
The Dragonborn raised an eyebrow at that and said. "I'm listening."
Harkon explained the challenge. "You and a follower of your choice will battle me and my new wife in a single match. I win, I will kill you and all the Dawnguard will die while the rest turns into vampires."
Then the Dragonborn made his own stipulation for this challenge."And if I win, every vampire will die while you will watch."
Harkon didn't hesitate as he replied. "Deal." Then he added. "My new and LOYAL wife Emilie will be you opponents. Pick a partner...if you can."
The Dragonborn looked at Serana..sure she's been with him through Oblivion and back plus she even fought her father alongside him but decided to try something new.
He called out to Valerica. "I want you to be my partner."
Valerica was shocked to say the least, she walked to the Dragonborn and hesitantly said. "I'm not sure if I can do this..Harkon is dangerous and I don't think I can match him."
Serana encouraged her mother. "Come on mother, I made peace with killing him a long time ago and I faced him along with the Dragonborn. If I can do it, you can too besides this is your chance to stand up to my father prove to the Dawnguard that you are on their side."
Valerica felt her spirits boost at her daughter's encouragement and whispered. "All right Serana, for you." Then she said to the Dragonborn. "Let's go, I'm ready."
They both walked to face Harkon and the Dragonborn pulled out another Daedric artifact from his back: the Volendrung! He is so good in two-handed weapons that holding such a warhammer is just easy for him.
Everyone looked amazed at that weapon. It made Isran's warhammer look small compared to it.
Harkon pulled his weapon out of his sheath and it turned out to be...
A puny iron sword.
The Dragonborn saw that...sputtered a bit...then burst out laughing! His laughter is so contagious that everyone on his side laughed too! Harkon looked confused then saw his weapon which it turns out that it was swapped!
He came to a realization as he shouted out. "Those thieves! They swapped my weapon with this sword while I was sleeping!"
The Dragonborn laughed and said. "An iron sword? I can snap that like a twig with my bare hands!"
Harkon heard enough and yelled. "Emilie! Deal with Valerica! I'll handle the Dragonborn!"
Meanwhile, the Dragonborn tells Valerica. "You handle that vampire, I'll deal with Harkon." Valerica nodded and shot Icy Spears at Emilie who tried to counter that with Chain Lightnings.
Harkon boasted to the Dragonborn. "While you were gone, I have enhanced myself with the Bloodstone Chalice and if I recall, one of my vampire servitors bested one of your great grandfathers during my reign. As I am their superior, I am yours."
The Dragonborn shot back. "You forgetting the time I defeated Miraak and the Ebony Warrior without Serana's help. Oh wait! You were dead when that happened."
Harkon and the Dragonborn charged at each other and clashed hammer and sword. Harkon parried the Dragonborn's downward swing but the Dragonborn kneed his side twice before smacking the vampire lord in the head with the warhammer. The Dragonborn didn't let up hit Harkon in the head with his Volendrung causing the man's circlet to fall off.
The Dragonborn gave Harkon a chance to recover and Harkon got up, retrieved his sword and used Vampiric Drain at the Dragonborn who merely shrugged it off as he made a charging swing at Harkon and the man tried to block it with his iron sword.
Only for the sword to break in half on impact. And the Dragonborn swung his warhammer and hit Harkon on the head again, sending him skidding to the ground but the man managed to get up again.
Harkon shot Thunderbolts at the Dragonborn along with the ever-present Vampiric Drain but the Nord is undeterred and shouted his Cyclone which sent Harkon flying upwards following by a Fire Breath shout once Harkon landed.
Harkon gritted his teeth and decided to activate his Vampire Lord form. The Dragonborn decided to even the odds by activating his Dragon Aspect shout/power.
MUL...QAH...DIIV!
Suddenly the Dragonborn is covered with a majestic looking ethereal dragon armor around himself. Everyone, including Serana, stared in awe at his appearance though Harkon seethed at his opponent for having such power.
Harkon flew to his opponent and tired to claw him only to be smacked away by Volendrung. He then used Vampiric Drain and hit the Dragonborn two times with it. The Dragonborn realized that the spell is more powerful as a Vampire Lord and it hurt. Harkon reanimated two vampire bodies to fight for him while he summoned two gargoyles to back him up.
The Dragonborn easily killed the zombies and the gargoyles but Harkon used Bats ability to charge at the Dragonborn. It worked and it knocked him down. With Harkon on top, he readied himself to claw the Dragonborn's helmet off.
Only to be sent skidding away by an ethereal being that somehow appeared out of thin air.
It was an Ancient Dragonborn and he shouted Unrelenting Force at Harkon making him stagger and hit him two times with his battleaxe. Harkon was enraged at being denied his vengeance and hit him with two blasts of Vampiric Drain at the Ancient Dragonborn. No effect and Harkon decided to claw that ethereal being continuously attacking him while shouting Unrelenting Force on occasion.
The Dragonborn used Grand Healing to heal himself and the Ancient Dragonborn disappeared as soon as Harkon used Bats on it.
Not that it would harm the being anyway.
Harkon used Bats again but this time the Dragonborn is ready and sidestepped it and countered it with a Cyclone shout followed by a Drain Vitality one. Harkon gritted his teeth in pain and tried to claw his enemy only for the Dragonborn to easily dodge it and swing his warhammer at his face, knocking several of his teeth out.
Harkon activated his Mist Form to regenerate his health. While waiting for the spell to expire, the Dragonborn pulled out Sanguine Rose and summoned two Dremora Valkynaz to aid him.
Harkon's Mist Form expired and summoned two gargoyles to attack the Dragonborn. The two Dremora pulled out their Daedric Greatswords of the Blaze and engaged the gargoyles. They won and charged at Harkon who used his choking spell on one Dremora and threw him to the other, causing them both to 'die' and be banished back to oblivion.
The Dragonborn shouted out Marked for Death at Harkon and it hit. The Vampire Lord gritted his teeth fired two Drain Health blasts at the Dragonborn and it hit too. They attacked each other but the Dragonborn prevailed with his hammer hitting Harkon's legs and sides. He also used his Enhanced Dwarven Crossbow to shoot Harkon's Hand when he tried to use Corpse Curse at him. Harkon shot another blast at the Dragonborn and it hit and then Bats'ed to the Dragonborn but the Dragonborn back a bit then timed his swing to hit Harkon's face.
And it did.
It broke the Vampire Lord's nose so loud it can be heard throughout the Fort. It sent him flying and landed on his back. The Dragonborn stood above him and then swing his Volendrung down at Harkon's legs which broke so bad that it showed bones breaking through the skin and damaged beyond repair.
Some of the Dawnguard members winced and the novice mages along with Tolfdir cringed at the blows and the bones breaking skin.
The Dragonborn made a smug smile and simply said. "I win."
He saw Valerica fire Chain Lightnings at Emilie who shot Ice Spikes back but thanks to Valerica's Frost Resistance, it didn't do much. Emilie pulled out an Elven Dagger while Valerica pulled out her Glass Dagger. The two scuffled for a while but then Valerica won by Dual Casting a Lightning Bolt at Emilie's face which stunned the Imperial and then Valerica charged at her and then knocked her down. Valerica tried pushing down the Glass Dagger at Emilie's chest but the Imperial grabbed her wrist. Valerica used her strength to slowly but surely overpowered the vampire and then finally dug her dagger into chest, killing her. Valerica stood up and left but to make sure Emilie's really dead, she threw her dagger at the dead Imperial's head. She can always ask Gunmar to forge her a new one.
The Dragonborn saw Valerica walking towards then looked at Harkon who is crippled. "Looks like Valerica and I won." Harkon seethed from his position and tried to cast a Lightning spell only to have his hand impaled by an Ice Spike by Valerica.
"Thank you Valerica." The Dragonborn said and he turned to the allied forces. "All of you witnessed my victory and now it's time for us to honor OUR end of the agreement. All forces, kill ALL of the vampires!"
Everyone made a war cry and attacked the demoralized vampires. They were woefully prepared and were decimated. They tried to run away but Odahviing and Durnehviir recently summoned by the Dragonborn made short work of the fleeing vampires. Anyone not burned to death by Odahviing's flame breaths were stabbed and shot by Durnehviir's Bonemen, Mistmen and Wrathmen.
The Dragonborn and allies decided to loot the Fort. The Dragonborn let Tolfdir and the novice mages take any tomes belonging to the vampires saying and quoting a certain Telvanni wizard in Soltheism that dangerous knowledge is still knowledge and therefore useful. The Dawnguard took anything that looked Vampiric and destroyed it. The Companions took any weapons that the Thieves Guild couldn't get due to time constraints which are steel and Nordic plus some arrows that the vampires forged but didn't use.
The Dawnguard took the unconscious Harkon and bound him after stripping him of his ring and necklace and then brought a platform for him to stand on.
Suddenly Harkon woke with a blow to his face, courtesy of Durak as he was bound and on his knees in a platform of sort. He heard Isran announce to the allied forces.
"To the Dawnguard, the College Of Winterhold, the Companions and the Thieves Guild! We have won a mighty victory against the enemy of Skyrim and it is thanks to your efforts that the world is grateful to you, even if it's people don't show it or don't know it! This is 'lord' Harkon, father of our newfound ally Serana and the one who wanted to instigate this twice-damned prophecy that we intend to stop! His tyranny will hold us no longer and he will serve as a message to any vampires who dare try to resurrect the prophecy or attempt any manipulations towards the people of Skyrim!"
Isran was about to ask Harkon for his final words when the Dragonborn whispered something to his ear. Isran nodded and then suddenly called out. "I have decided thanks to the Dragonborn's advice that Valerica here will be the one to execute Harkon. For those of you who do not know, Valerica was once Harkon's husband and mother to Serana and contributed to our cause by giving us an Elder Scroll and joining us. I think it's fitting that since Harkon's daughter aided us in delivering a devastating blow to Harkon's forces, it will be his wife that will cut off the head of the monster."
The Dragonborn went to Valerica and presented her Dawnbreaker on one hand and the Dawnguard Rune Hammer on another. "Choose between those two and execute Harkon."
Valerica looked at the beautiful, stunning, and shining Dawnbreaker. She'd like to use such a beautiful weapon to kill her mad husband plus the fact that it is effective against undead makes it enticing. She looked at the Rune Hammer and while she has no experience using warhammers, she can use it to make his death all the more humiliating.
(Choice 1: Dawnbreaker)
Valerica took the handle of the legendary anti-undead weapon of Dawnbreaker as she walked to her former husband. She raised the sword above Harkon's neck.
She declared. "Consider this our divorce." Then she chopped his head off, resulting in an explosion that came from killing undead with the Dawnbreaker.
Serana had to bite her lip from the anti-undead explosion though it didn't hurt her much though.
(Option 2: Dawnguard Rune Hammer)
Valerica took the warhammer and it felt heavy as she never used warhammers before. Despite that she gathered enough strength to lift it above Harkon's head as the man paled even further knowing that such a death is undignified for a noble like him.
Valerica declared. "This is for Serana and me." Then she made a loud cry and swing it down the screaming Harkon's head, splattering it.
[Canon choice is Dawnbreaker]
Valerica gave the holy weapon back to the Dragonborn. Isran gave his thanks. "You have my and the Dawnguard's thanks Valerica. As we have accepted your daughter when she helped in defeating Harkon, we will accept you."
Valerica nodded and the Dragonborn looked at his allies and they all went back to the ships while he and Serana ride on Odahviing and flew with them.
The Dragonborn thanked his allies on the way back to Windhelm and allowed them to keep the loot. They all went back to their homes, content with the cuts they got.
They went back to the Fort where Valerica became the second vampire to become part of the Dawnguard alongside her daughter. Since then, she is constantly impressed by the Dragonborn's deeds and gave him permission to date her daughter although said daughter can handle herself.
The Dragonborn proposed again and Serana didn't outright say no.
"I don't know. I'm not comfortable going into temples."
"What if you don't have to enter a temple?"
"Then I'll be happy to be with you, but I'm not so sure."
"The priest who works there owes me a favor for helping his wife. I can use that to get him to perform a ceremony OUTSIDE the Temple of Mara. Is that good enough for you?"
"I suppose it is. But only if it's night time."
"Deal."
Valerica overheard that and knew that while her daughter can take care of herself, the Dragonborn is more than worthy to be with her and the fact that he is honorable proves that he can never break her heart.
Meanwhile, the Dragonborn went inside the Temple of Mara while Serana stayed outside.
"Maramal, I'd like to have a wedding outside of the temple. I'll mark the location in your map."
"Oh? Why can you not have a ceremony in our temple? I'm not sure if Lady Mara can give you her blessings outside of our temple."
"Well, my betrothed has an aversion to temples because of her history within them. She's too afraid to ask for a blessing inside of them."
"I see. I can understand having traumatic experiences and I will accept your request and the location you marked in."
The Dragonborn went to Serana and she followed him back to Windstad Manor.
They took a break for a while and the Dragonborn looked over his porch with Serana hugging his back.
"So what do you want to wear our wedding day?" The Dragonborn asked while Serana just snuggled her face on his back.
"I just want us to wear our outfits to where we first met." She replied.
The Dragonborn walked and set on the bench. It is filled with quill and a lot of parchment delivered to him by his bard.
"Do you really have to send letters to EVERYONE in Skyrim?" Serana pouted, not liking the attention.
"And the people in Solstheim. They're my allies, Serana. They deserve to know about this." Serana whined but accepted it.
She leaned on his shoulder as he scribbled down parchment after parchment and carefully folding them and placing them on envelopes. She recognized the symbols of the College, the Thieves Guild, the Companions. She also saw that he is also writing to all of the Jarls in Skyrim. She saw that he is writing to the people of Solstheim (actually it's more about Raven Rock and Tel Mithryl, the Skaal prefer to keep to themselves). Overall, there are a total of fifteen letter to be sent. For security purposes, he made some fire seals on all letter so that no bandits or thieves or vampires might steal the letters. To her surprise, he also made one last letter which he engraved it with the alphabet of dragons.
She saw him pay a total of sixteen couriers and paid them in advance knowing that this can be quite hazardous. They went to the Dragonborn's bedroom and they laid on his bed. Serana just laid her head on the Dragonborn's arm as they reveled in the solitude of his home.
The Dragonborn is quiet and this allowed to Serana to ask. "Now that you're inviting everyone, how can our wedding accommodate this many guests?"
"I can pay the shopkeepers of the Holds and the villages to provide food and drinks to the guests. As you may or may not know, I have virtually unlimited gold thanks to my jobs in the Thieves Guild and the Companions, turning in bounties, helping out people and the College plus selling stuff to merchants."
Serana nodded. This is what she and her mother admired about the Dragonborn: he always like to boast about his achievements but he kept himself humble and didn't let it go to his head, earning the respect of authorities and the common people alike.
Serana blushed at the thought of her and the Dragonborn standing on the aisle but she made it clear that she just wanted to wear her outfit and the Dragonborn his armor. He didn't mind and gave her a compliment that made her blush to this day.
"I always think you look beautiful with the hood on."
She felt the Dragonborn lower himself and his head is lying down on his pillow. Serana still lay on his arm as a substitute pillow. For the first time in a millennia, she felt happy and content as they both slept.
They spent the next morning separated as the Dragonborn helped with the preparations at the wedding site at an area in Whiterun territory near Rorikstead. Serana decided to go to her mother who she feels like she deserves to be a part of all this.
When she went the the Fort Dawnguard, she called out to her mother and Valerica went to her.
She asked her mother. "Are you doing anything right now?" Her mother shook her head and said. "No."
Serana said. "You should know that the Dragonborn and I are going to be married." Valerica smiled and replied. "Thats great! I know you two are perfect for each other. I hope you two can have a family together."
Serana requests. "I have a request mother." Seeing Valerica raise an eyebrow she asked. "You're my parent and I don't have a father anymore so can you be present in our wedding?"
Valerica was shocked. Serana meant so much to her even if she did view her daughter as a protege. Part of her wanted to be there as her mother and stand in their wedding but the other is still wallowing in her misery of what she had done to Serana in all those years. Serana saw this troubled expression and decided to help.
"Mother are you still thinking about father and what you've done to me?" She asked. Valerica's eyes widened at this and she knew she was caught as she sputtered. "I just-" Serana gently cut her mother off. "Mother, I'm aware that you're scared. Scared that I'll probably die at the hands of Harkon. But he and all the other villains that will threaten me and the Dragonborn are gone now. They won't harm us anymore."
Valerica absorbed those words. Her daughter is right but the guilt of robbing her daughter of a normal life still there.
"Mother, there's no way for us to turn back time but since we're immortal, we can use the time forward to make new memories to outweigh the bad ones so I'm asking you as your daughter to please be there for my wedding as my mother. There you can prove to everyone in Skyrim that you are REALLY my mother." Serana said. Valerica's eyes are wet with tears as she threw her arms around her daughter. "Of course." She cried out. Serana embraced Valerica as she released her emotions out.
Tonight at exactly six. All of the Hold Jarls and the members of the Companions, the College Of Winterhold, the Thieves Guild, the Greybeards plus all of the people from around Skyrim who the Dragonborn had helped with their errands attended. Paarthurnax, Odahviing and Durnehviir are present too, landed on the ground or flying.
Serana walked to the aisle in her Royal Vampire outfit attire and stood beside her mother while the Dragonborn is fully armored with his Daedric Armor set.
Maramal announced from his stand."It was Mara that first gave birth to all of creation and pledged to watch over us as her children. It is from her love of us that we first learned to love one another. It is from this love that we learn that a life lived alone is no life at all. We gather here today, under Mara's loving gaze, to bear witness to the union of two souls in eternal companionship. And though they refused- for personal reasons- to hold this most important ceremony in Mara's temple, may she still give her blessing. May they journey forth together in this life and the next, in prosperity and poverty, and in joy and hardship. Do you agree to be bound together, in love, now and forever?" Maramal intoned.
The Dragonborn said firmly, looking at Serana's eyes through her hood. "I do. Now and forever."
Serana followed, her eyes looking at the Dragonborn's helmet. "I do. Now and forever."
Maramal declared loudly. "Under the authority of Mara, the Divine of Love, I declare this couple to be wed."
Valerica walked between them and presented them two rings. "While you were helping out at the ceremony, I returned to the castle to scavenge something. It's been passed down from the Vokihar family for generations and it is used to give to their spouse. To be honest, I wasn't even sure it's still there as they are no longer being made but I am giving these to you both to symbolize your union."
The Dragonborn and Serana looked at the rings: it is of flawless quality and is of accurate and astonishing detail. It is a golden dragon with along with a symbol of the Vokihar that is of ebony. With an enchanter's eye, the Dragonborn can tell that it can reduce Restoration spell cost as well as resist magic.
They both wore it and it fit. The Dragonborn took off his helmet, gave it to Valerica, held Serana's face in his hands and kissed her.
The whole crowd applauded at that.
Serana smiled as the Dragonborn let go and she saw him take his helmet back from Valerica as he said. "We're married now. Let's go and mingle with our guests." He offered his arm to her and she accepted.
Valerica said that she'll be talking with some alchemists and left.
The Dragonborn and Serana thanked every person who congratulated them warmly as they walked to the Companions. Torvar, Athis and Njada Stonearm were doing drinking challenges while Ria drank along and laughing. Farkas, Vilkas and Aela stood up to meet the Harbinger.
"Harbinger. You honor us by letting us attend your wedding." Vilkas said.
Aela inquired though it came suspicious. "Why marry a vampire Harbinger? What if she decided to turn you into her thrall?"
The Dragonborn answered. "Easy there Aela. She's a member of the Dawnguard now and her mother too. She proved it by helping me defeat her father and has been following me since, besides I'm too powerful so any vampire tricks won't work on me."
Aela sighed in relief. "Well if that's your decision then I won't question it."Then looked at Serana. "You better treat our Harbinger well and not turn him into a vampire or you'll answer to me and the Circle."
Serana replied. "I won't turn him unless he wants it though I know he doesn't. Worry not, I will have his back as he does mine."
Farkas exclaimed. "I may not be as sharp in the brain as my brother but I know that's really honorable to say, for a vampire." Serana didn't take offense for that and made a small bow in response.
The Dragonborn declared. "We'll be going now. You guys have fun!" Aela chuckled and they sat at their bench while Vilkas held his brother by the shoulder and shared a bottle of mead.
They both walked to the table where the Thieves Guild are eating and drinking at. Delvin is seen drinking with Tonilia and Vekel the Man serving them all drinks and drinking some himself. Many of the thieves are having fun eating the buffet and enjoying themselves as they talk of their exploits.
Brynjolf saw the Dragonborn and walked towards him. "Good to have you invite us lad. Very generous." They shook hands and embraced.
"You're my allies Brynjolf, you deserve to know about this. Although I don't like being part of the Thieves Guild, I had to admit that it does have its perks."
Brynjolf laughed as he held the Dragonborn's shoulder. "Well lad, it all started when you wanted information from me about your fellow Blades whereabouts. Then you started doing more jobs than everyone combined just for restoring us back to glory and power. I'm really proud to have you as our Guild Master." When the Dragonborn nodded, he turned to Serana. "That's one pretty lass you got there lad. I don't deal with vampires very often but I know she can be useful for our jobs because of the vampire's stealth."
Serana rubbed her jaw in thought as she mused. "Maybe one day, I'll try out a job for some coin. After all, I had to follow him as he takes things."
Brynjolf shrugged. "If the lad lets it, we'll let you in so long as you don't mess up and put us in a bad light." Then he sat down on one of the benches.
The Dragonborn saw Vex and Karliah drinking together so he called out. "Enjoying the party?"
Vex replied. "I guess it's nice to get out of that rathole every once in a while. And I get to eat and drink a lot thanks to you finishing my jobs."
"And you, Karliah?"
"I am happy for you, Nightingale and a little jealous. You get to have someone who will be with you for life while I had to live with being responsible for Gallus' death and I can't be with him while I'm still alive."
"I'm sure Gallus won't want you to mope around for being responsible for his death. I mean you redeemed yourself in the Guild's eyes by helping expose and kill Mercer. You can take comfort in them."
"I suppose you're right Nightingale. I feel at peace knowing that the Guild's and the Sepulcher's future is in good hands." Karliah replied while sipping her wine.
The Dragonborn said. "It's nice talking with you guys but we'll be going now. Behave yourselves okay?" Then he and Serana left while the Thieves Guild enjoyed their buffet.
He and Serana went to the table of the mages of the College. They saw the mages, both teacher and student, eating and drinking while some are just reading their tomes.
Tolfdir stood up and greeted the Dragonborn with a kind, grandfatherly smile. "I trust all is well outside of the College Arch-mage?"
The Dragonborn nodded. "It's been hard work keeping the peace and repelling evil but I manage. How's the College holding up?"
Tolfdir replied as he gazed around the College members. "With all the things you did for us, it treats us well. In fact, we've been getting a few new more novice mages who said that they wanted to just study magic."
The Dragonborn mused. "More mages for the College. I suppose that's alright given the College's reputation."
Tolfdir looked at Serana and asked. "Even if you're a vampire, you're welcome at the College provided you're accompanied by the Arch-mage."
Serana said. "Maybe one day, I'll go to the College and learn some new spells. Maybe I can try spells that are better than the ones I use."
Faralda said while sipping her wine. "I know that vampires use ice and lightning spells. I have a full list of both for your perusal if you're interested."
Phinis Gestor added after devouring a piece of bread. "Even though necromancy is forbidden to use in Tamriel, I have tomes about the subject that you can study and apply, even one tome that can make you raise human corpses permanently."
Serana liked the offers given to her and said. "Thank you, I'll consider them if I can."
The Dragonborn and Serana talked for a bit then parted ways as they continued to eat, drink and read. They also conversed with the Jarls and Elisif.
The Dragonborn saw Lleril Morvayn followed by his trusted companion, Adril Arano and his wife Cindiri along with an escort of Redoran Guard as well as Glover Mallory.
Morvayn went to the Dragonborn and they shook hands. "Friend, that is quite a wedding party you've hosted. We could see it for miles!"
The Dragonborn replied. "Well I have many allies and I feel like they deserved to know about this. I trust your trip is uneventful?"
Adril replied as he and his wife walked to the Dragonborn. "There were attacks sure but nothing too dangerous, just some bandits and the occasional animal. I had to kill a vampire with a sword before he could bite Councilor Morvayn."
Cindiri added. "I even had to use a bow to kill a vampire sneaking up on one of the guards. But seeing the wedding party feels me relief knowing that we arrived." She and her husband shook hands with the Dragonborn.
The Dragonborn stated. "Well, I'll introduce you to my wife and I'll let you have your own table." He introduced Serana to the Councilors and directed them to any empty table big enough for the lot of them. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Glover meeting with his brother and reunited with Sapphire after the latter told him that the Guild Master gave her his letter.
He saw Neloth and his apprentice Talvas Fathyron though the latter is dragging two corpses of vampires.
Neloth said as he and the Dragonborn shake hands. "I read your letter Dragonborn and while I don't feel the need to attend your wedding, I owe you for delivering me heart stones and Azra Nightwielder's staves and getting rid of my former apprentice. So here I am. I hope you have something in your party to make my time away from tower worth it."
The Dragonborn rubbed his jaw and replied. "You could try talking to the members of the College. Thanks to me, they have an Elder Scroll, a good bunch of Shalidor's writings and a whole library of spells."
Neloth replied. "I don't think your band of mages will be up to my level but I'll be interested in speaking to them. As for my apprentice, I hope your guests don't mind if I perform experiments on these vampires who dare have the audacity to attack me while traveling."
"Just try not to ruin the party when something goes wrong with your experiments." The Dragonborn said, introducing Serana and then they parted.
The Dragonborn and Serana watched as Neloth proudly introduced himself to the College members. They were very interested and Brelyna meekly and hesitantly introduced herself to Neloth as another Telvanni wizard. Neloth was intrigued at seeing a Telvanni with the College and asked what knowledge she had. Needless to say he was unimpressed by her apprentice level skill and said so to her face. Of course that earned him an earful from Tolfdir and her classmates.
Neloth ignored them all and asked about Shalidor and the Elder Scroll which Urag gro-Shub happily answered and provided Neloth with some of the writings which fascinated the Telvanni wizard. He had Talvas take down notes about them while he spoke to the other mages.
The Dragonborn shook his head knowing of Neloth's arrogance and disregard of people and life would make him at odds of the College. He turned around and saw a sight that surprised him.
It was the Skaal and all of them attended too.
Fanari Strong-Voice remarked. "We heard from the Dark Elves from Raven Rock that you are hosting a wedding party but you did not invite us Skaal-Friend."
The Dragonborn sheepishly answered. "Well you guys just keep to yourselves so I didn't bother writing a letter to you. But I'm still glad that you went all this way to attend for me."
Wulf-Wild Blood pointed out. "But you've been a great help to my hunters who were praising you every time they returned from their hunts. This is our way of repaying you even if we had to walk far from our home to do it."
Tharstan added, holding a book. "Thanks to you, I wrote plenty of the Skaal and the crypt we explored. I'll be asking some associates of mine to publish it and make copies. And I can spend some time in Skyrim to learn more while I'm at it."
Deor Woodcutter seconded. "You're a true friend to us all by saving a member of our village from the elves and I think I speak for everyone including Fanari that you are a trusted friend to us all and you can count on us if you need anything or we can provide you place to stay if need be."
Edla stated. "My son is happy to see the world but is content to stay at the village thanks to you Skaal-Friend. I and the rest of the village will never forget what you've done for us."
Frea for her part, just walked in front of the Dragonborn and embraced him by wrapping her arms around his torso. The Dragonborn hugged back and they let go. She did not say it but the Dragonborn can tell that she is happy to see him again. They parted and nodded to each other.
The Dragonborn introduced Serana to them and allowed them to join his increasing host of guests.
"Looks like you've been busy these last few months." Said a voice that the Dragonborn didn't want to attend the wedding reception.
Delphine of the Blades, followed by Esbern.
Delphine stomped to the Dragonborn and demanded to his face. "Why did you not invite us? We have every right to be here as much as everyone does."
The Dragonborn rubbed his jaw in thought as he said. "I would like to invite Esbern since he's decent enough but I know you'd be the one to read it and then invite yourself in."
Delphine saw Paarthurnax flying above and demanded again. "So you've invited Paarthurnax and those two dragons in your wedding but not us? Have you forgotten what we did for you and our contributions to the world?"
The Dragonborn shrugged. "I didn't forget but I just don't like you very much because of your attitude towards me."
Delphine felt insulted and spat. "Don't delude yourself Dragonborn. If I didn't like your face I would've killed you by now."
The Dragonborn wasn't impressed and shot back. "You can't and you won't because I have been keeping my skills sharp by traveling. You can't beat me at your best or at my worst and in the unlikely event that you actually do kill me, you'll have to explain to EVERYONE in my party why you killed the proud groom in his own wedding party. Bet the Thalmor'll be laughing when they find out you killed the mighty Dragonborn simply because he insulted you and will use this to damage your reputation further."
Delphine spat with barely disguised hatred. "If I could, I'd probably detain you and tell your allies that I'm doing it for your protection."
The Dragonborn fired back. "And rob the blushing bride of her soon-to-be loving husband? If it's not her that's going to kill you, it'd be her mother."
Delphine snapped. "Why you'd marry a vampire is beyond me Dragonborn. It should be destroyed."
Esbern decided to intervene by saying. "That's enough of that. Dragonborn, we come to you and introduce us to your bride and we wish you a long life and many children. We have come this far without the Thalmor trailing us so we wish you to let us in the reception to celebrate with the others.
The Dragonborn conceded but only because Esbern is the better mannered of the two. "Very well, you may enter but I'll give you a warning: If I see either one of you attack Paarthurnax in my own wedding, I'm kicking you guys out. Do I make myself clear?"
Delphine looked ready to protest but Esbern responded. "We understand clearly. We will maintain civility and respect to Paarthurnax as per your demand." He bowed and Delphine too but only grudgingly. He introduced Serana to them and left to go find a table.
Everybody attended and the stocks of food and wine held out well thanks to the shopkeeper's supplies and the Dragonborn paid for the best drinks with his own money.
Most of the civilians greeted Serana politely due to being near the Dragonborn's presence. Many of them were pleased that the wine and the food never ran out this entire night.
Isran and the Dawnguard attended and the Redguard wished them a long and happy marriage then went back to the Fort as he explained that he couldn't stay long. Though he didn't stay, the Dragonborn and Serana were just happy that he attended. Half of the Dawnguard left with Isran though the remaining half stayed to eat and drink.
It was a very long night and many agreed that it is the best wedding party in the history of Skyrim. When morning is about to dawn, the reception ended and everyone went back to their homes.
(Two days after the wedding)
The Dragonborn and Serana made love at their home at Windstad Manor. The Dragonborn gave her all the kisses and touches he could muster and claimed her as his mate. Serana for her part, felt overwhelmed and dominated by the the stronger Dragonborn. She admitted that with that stamina of his, he could wear out any woman with that thing on his legs.
Whenever they traveled together, she could see many women eyeing him and that made her feel jealous. Thankfully he was loyal to her and she appreciated that.
Serana asked him while he was turning in jobs to Delvin and Vex. "Let's go see my mother and the Dawnguard."
The Dragonborn replied through his helmet. "We'll kill the advisor in the Jarl's court and we'll do that."
They entered Mistveil Keep where they warned Jarl Laila Law-bringer of the threat with Serana pickpocketing the advisor for proof in advance. The Dragonborn killed him by running his swords through the vampire's guts while the guards did not interfere. With the threat eliminated, they both went to Fort Dawnguard.
They turned in the job to Isran and went to Valerica who is working on potions with Florentius. She saw them and dropped her work on the Alchemy Table and ran to them.
"Dragonborn! Serana! It's been two days after the wedding and you need to start working on grandchildren for me! Also if anyone causes you trouble, Dragonborn, bring them to me and I'll set them straight okay? Do you need anything?" Valerica asks/demands like mad. The Dragonborn and Serana blushed at the mention of grandchildren.
Serana answered. "We're just turning in a job and see you in the process." They conversed for a bit then left to report to Gunmar. They left the Fort after that.
After doing it but not turning it yet, they went to Windstad Manor where Serana asked while they're looking out in the east porch. "When are you going to settle down and have children?"
The Dragonborn shrugged beside her. "When my mind has finally caught up with my body then I'll retire and have a family with you."
Serana smiled. "If mother knows of this, she'll spoil our kids silly." The Dragonborn laughed in response.
Although it saddened her to know that the Dragonborn is mortal and will eventually die while she lived on, she took comfort in the fact that they have done plenty together and the memories they had together will bring peace in her mind. Adding to the fact that the Dragonborn has defeated all of his enemies means that nobody can threaten them in the future.
Serana felt at peace and leaned in the Dragonborn's shoulder while they looked at the landscape of Solitude.
[Notes]
This is my first and standalone fanfic. I will write another fic about the Dragonborn who is a male Nord and his time in the Skaal which is also standalone. In the future, I will write about a male Breton Dragonborn who is a vampire that plans to fulfill the prophecy in his own way.
