Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters you are about to meet. And I do not own Once Upon a Time
This is a crossover of Once Upon a Time, Lord of the Rings, Frozen, Tangled, and Beauty and the Beast.
Author's note: If you have never seen Once Upon a Time prepare to be confused. If you are a Once Upon A Time fan, prepare to be confused.
Author's Note: Hey, sorry I feel like I've left you all hanging. And I'm also forgetting my story and have been needing to look back on old notes and pervious chapters. Also, just wanted to answer some questions: Peter Pan will come into the picture eventually. I plan to write other 'seasons' for this story. So, you'll get a dose of your favorite characters. Also new cross-overs. I can only do so few at a time, but The Lord of the Rings will be consistent.
Not sure if I'll have Boromir revived. But I have been asked many times if Legolas will come into the picture. Yes, he will! How can you not have Legolas? ;D
I actually hope to bring in all (if not most) of the Fellowship in. I'm starting with the hobbits. The others will come in time.
I think that's all for now. Enjoy this next chapter!
Previously on Once Upon a Time:
Frodo, Emma, Anna, Ruby, and Belle have started the hunt for Elsa. Belle must travel with them because of Regina's vengeance on Mr. Gold.
Meanwhile, Rapunzel has settled in Story Brook, taking care of Quasimodo and making friends. She is still unsure where Eugene is and if he's still alive.
Episode 12
Live Your Dream
Before the Curse
"I can't believe I did this!" Rapunzel cried out in excitement. She watched as some birds flew through the trees. "I can't believe I did this…" She breathed, feeling a little overwhelmed. She suddenly felt a twinge of excitement again. "I can't believe I did this!" She screamed, then suddenly whispered. "Mother would be so furious… oh, that's okay. I mean, what she won't know what kill her, right?"
Throughout that morning, she couldn't decide if she had made the right decision or not. She went from curling up and crying, to be running through leaves, rolling down hills, and swinging through trees.
"Oh my gosh…this would kill her…this is so fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnn! I am a horrible daughter…I'm going back…I am never going back! Woohoo! I am a despicable human being! Woohoo! Best. Day. Ever!"
Flynn finally decided to approach her as she sat by a rock, sobbing. "You know…I can't help but notice you seem…a little at war with yourself here."
"What?" Rapunzel sniffed.
"I'm only picking up bits and pieces… Over protective mother, forbidden roadtrip…I mean, this is serious stuff!" Flynn replied. "But let me ease your conscience. A little adventure, a little rebellion. That's good- healthy even!"
"You think?" Rapunzel asked, managing a small smile.
"I know!" Flynn replied. "You're way overthinking this, trust me. Does your mother deserve it? No. Would this break her heart and crush her soul? Of course! But you've just got to do it!"
"Break her heart?" Rapunzel asked, her smile disappearing.
"In half." Flynn said, picking a grape off a vine.
"Crush her soul?" Rapunzel gasped, eyes widening.
Flynn squished the grape in his fingers. "Like a grape." He said.
"She would be heart broken, you're right!" Rapunzel said as Flynn helped her to her feet.
"I am, aren't I? Oh bother…" He sighed, she as much fake sympathy as he could muster. "I can't believe I'm saying this but…I'm letting you out of the deal."
"What?" Rapunzel gasped.
"That's right- but don't thank me." He continued, picking up the frying pan. "Let's just turn around, and get you home!" He handed her the pan and started leading her away. "I get back my satchel, you get your mother-daughter relationship based on mutual trust, and voila! We part ways as unlikely friends."
Rapunzel shoved him away. "No! I am seeing those lanterns!"
"Oh c'mon!" Flynn snapped. "What's it gonna take for me to get my satchel back?"
Rapunzel pointed the pan directly at his face. "I will use this!"
Suddenly, the bushes started to rustle, leaves falling from it. Rapunzel hid behind Flynn, gasping and shivering.
"Is it ruffians?!" She asked. "Thugs? Have they come for me?!"
A cute little rabbit hopped out of the bushes, making Rapunzel gasp and stiffen.
"Stay calm." Flynn reassured blankly. "It can probably smell fear."
"Oh," Rapunzel sighed in relief. "Sorry… I guess I'm just a little bit…jumpy…"
"Probably be best if we avoid ruffians and thugs though." Flynn said.
"Yeah," Rapunzel gave a curt laugh. "That would probably be best."
Flynn seemed lost in thought for a moment. "Are you hungry? I know a great place for lunch!"
"Uh… where?" Rapunzel asked, feeling a mixture of curiosity and caution.
"Don't you worry," Flynn replied, taking her hand. "You'll know it when you smell it!"
Story Brook
"Hello?" Rapunzel called into the library. The was no sign of Belle, as she expected. Anna had texted her to let her know that she had to go with the rest of them. Rapunzel figured she could take care of the library while Belle was absent. She slowly walked up the stairs into the attic. Sad memories suddenly started to pierce her. She remembered when Snow White's servant had been held hostage by those…evil queens, only to be cast out of the tower… Rapunzel and Quasi had been hiding from them in fear. They felt terrible for not being able to step in, knowing those witches were far more powerful.
Rapunzel slowly opened the door and peered around. The room seemed empty.
"Quasi? Are you here?"
"Rapunzel?" Quasi peeked out from behind the curtain that led to his room. "Oh, I should've known it was you."
"How are you?" Rapunzel asked.
"I'm doing okay." Quasi replied, stepping out from behind the curtain.
"Has anyone else come to visit you?" Rapunzel asked.
"I haven't seen Frollo, no." Quasi lowered his head. He always acted so different when Frollo's name was mentioned.
"You haven't thought of looking for him?" Rapunzel asked.
"No…no… I think he'd prefer I stay hidden, safe…" Quasi stammered.
"I see," Rapunzel nodded. She wondered if Frollo even bothered to look for Quasi. She wondered if that man even cared for this poor boy. She wondered if Quasi even wanted to be found…
Before the Curse
"I know it's around here somewhere…" Flynn said as he and Rapunzel stepped onto a path, leading to a small tavern. "Ah, here it is! The Snuggly Duckling! Very quaint place- perfect for you! Don't want you scaring and giving up on this quest of yours."
Rapunzel looked over at the tavern. A small sign was hanging on a small branch on a tree. There was a peaceful, friendly air about it.
"Well, I do like ducklings." Rapunzel admitted.
"Yay!" Flynn shouted, before leading her into the tavern, demanding the finest table.
But to Rapunzel, the Snuggly Duckling looked anything but snuggly. It was filled with ruffians and thugs. One had a hook for a hand.
Rapunzel held out her frying pan, ready to defend herself from anyone who drew near.
"You smell that?" Flynn asked, leading her into the tavern. "Take a deep breath through the nose!" He inhaled loudly. "Let that sink in. What are you getting? Because to me, it's part man smell, and the other part is reeeaaaalllly bad man smell. I don't know why, but overall it just smells like the color brown. Your thoughts?"
Rapunzel gasped as she felt someone gently grasp at her hair. She pulled a large portion of her hair close to her chest and back away, her hair sliding through the intruder's hands.
"That's a lot of hair…" He said in a gruff voice, though he sounded more impressed than greedy.
"She's growing it out." Flynn informed him. "Is that blood in your mustache? Goldie, look at this! Look at all the blood in his mustache! Good sir, that's a lot of blood!" He said loudly, before turning to look at Rapunzel. She looked around with wide eyes. Her skin seemed a little pale.
"Hey, you don't look so good Blondie." Flynn mused. "Maybe we should get you home, and call it a day." He took her hand and began to lead her back to the door. "Probably better off…this is a five-star joint after-all. And if you can handle this place, maybe you should be back in your tower-" Just as they got to the door, a large man slammed it, trapping them inside.
"Is this you?" He asked slowly, pointing to a wanted poster. Flynn looked closely at the poster and noticed they had gotten his nose wrong again!
"Oh, now they're just being mean." He sighed.
"It's him all right!" The man with a hook said excitedly. "Go find some guards!" He told someone before grabbing Flynn by the collar. "That reward's going to buy me a new hook!"
"I could use the money!" A man with a helmet cut in, snatching Flynn away.
"What about me?" The large man asked, snatching Flynn as well. "I'm broke!"
Suddenly, the men began to fight over Flynn. Rapunzel had to break up the fight by hitting one of the men in the head with a branch hanging on the ceiling.
"Put him down!" Rapunzel shouted. The men looked at her in surprise. The man with the hook only glared at her.
"Okay," Rapunzel sighed in frustration. "I don't know where I am, and I need him to take me to see the lanterns because I've been dreaming about them my entire life! Find your humanity! Haven't any of you ever had a dream?"
The man with the hook raised his ax and walked toward her. He glared at her intensely before tossing his weapon aside. "I…had a dream…once." He admitted. He began to explain his dream of playing the piano for concerts. He began to play and sing. Another man joined in. He told Rapunzel he had dreamed of finding true love, despite this scars and other flaws.
Soon, all the men joined in the song, singing about their dreams. They even made Flynn Ryder join in.
Suddenly, the man who had been sent burst back into the tavern. "I found the guards!" He said excited, then looked around in confusion as he realized his friends looked back at him in panic, or anger.
Before the man could say anything, he was pushed aside by the captain of the guards.
"Where's Ryder? Where is he?!" He demanded, storming into the tavern. "I know he's in here somewhere! Find him! Turn the place upside-down if you have to!"
Flynn and Rapunzel were hiding behind the front counter. He peeked to see they were dragging the two brothers he had worked with in chains. He knew he was in trouble up to his neck. He felt something cold and heavy on his shoulder. He looked up to see the man with a hook for a hand. He gestured for Flynn and Rapunzel to follow him. He led them to a trap door with a painted ducking on it. He pulled a lever, revealing a small tunnel.
"Go," He said. "Live your dream."
"I will." Flynn replied.
"Your dream stinks." The man retorted. "I was talking to her."
Flynn shrugged and began to climb into the tunnel.
"Thanks for everything." Rapunzel said softly, kissing the man on the cheek before following Flynn.
Story Brook
"Hello?" Rapunzel yelled, knocking on the front of Frodo's door. "Is anyone home?"
The door was finally answered by David.
"Katelyn? No wait… Rapunzel, right?" He asked.
"Yes." Rapunzel said. "Where is Frodo and Emma…and Ruby? Is everything okay?"
"Hopefully, everything will be." David replied. "They've gone to find Elsa. We're watching over the house…I mean, Snow, Henry, and me."
"So…who else went?"
"Let's see…um… Anna, and 'identity crisis- Belle."
"Belle?!" Rapunzel gasped. "Why Belle?"
"It's a long story…" David replied, rubbing the back of his head. "Things have gotten crazy. This winter needs to end before we can solve our problems once and for all."
Before the Curse
"Well, I gotta say…I didn't know you had it in you back there. That was pretty…impressive." Flynn admitted, holding the lantern high as he led Rapunzel down the cave.
"I know!" Rapunzel shouted excitedly. She cleared her throat before replying more softly. "I know." She seemed proud of herself, and more confident than before. Flynn gave her an encouraging smile.
"So, Flynn…" Rapunzel said after a moment of silence. "Where are you from?"
"Whoa, sorry Blondie, I don't do backstories. However, I am becoming very interested in yours." Flynn replied. "Now I know I'm not supposed to mention the hair."
"Nope." Rapunzel said.
"Or your mother…"
"Nuh-uh."
"But here's my question…if you wanted to see the lanterns so badly…why haven't you gone before?" The two of them paused for a moment. Rapunzel hesitated.
"Uh…well…" She trailed off when she noticed the rocks by her feet were rattling slightly. She heard hasty footsteps, running for them. "Uh… Flynn…Flynn…" She trailed off.
She spotted a group of soldiers.
"Ryder!" The captain shouted.
"Run…run!" Flynn urged, leading Rapunzel out of the caves. They found themselves cornered by the two brothers- obviously having escaped the guards. Then the very guards had followed them out of the caves. Thinking quickly, Rapunzel handed Flynn her frying pan. She swung her hair, and used it to grab at branches and swing to the ground. Flynn was left to fight off the guards with the frying pan, then to fight the horse, who had also picked up a sword. Rapunzel swung her hair again, catching Flynn and helping him soar safely to the ground. As they were running, the dam suddenly burst.
Rapunzel and Flynn ran into another cave, seeking escape. A rock fell by the entrance, trapping them inside. The cave started to fill with water. The two began to climb rocks to see if they could find a way out. But it seemed there was no escape. They were trapped, and about to drown. Flynn attempted to push rocks aside, but they were sealed tight. He scratched his hand on a rock and yelled in pain. He tried swimming around to see if there were any covered exits. Rapunzel made a desperate attempt to help by hitting her frying pan on the rock. Nothing would budge. Flynn burst out of the water, catching his breath.
"It's no use." He panted. "I can't see anything!"
Rapunzel went to dive, not wanting to give up just yet. Flynn quickly pulled her back and turned her to face him.
"There's no point!" He reasoned, gently brushing some hair out of her face. "It's pitch-black down there!"
Rapunzel took a deep breath, realizing Flynn was right…they had run out of options.
"This is all my fault…" She cried. "She was right- I never should have done this…I'm so…I'm so sorry Flynn." She covered her eyes and began to weep.
"Eugene."
"What?" Rapunzel sniffed, looking over at Flynn.
"My real name is Eugene Fertervert…someone might as well know."
Rapunzel let out a small giggle. "I have magic hair that glows when I sing."
"What?" Flynn asked, raising an eyebrow.
Rapunzel gasped, ignoring Flynn's confused gaze. "I have…magic hair that glows when I sing!" She felt slightly foolish that she didn't think of this until the water had risen to her chin, but if there was any time to act, it was now!
"Flower gleam and glow, let your power shine!" She sang, before gasping as her head was emerged in the water. Flynn also gasped before closing his eyes. When he opened them again, he was surprised to find Rapunzel's hair was glowing, completely lighting up the cave. Flynn tried to gasp in surprise, nearly swallowing a bunch of water. They looked around to see Rapunzel's hair was travelling toward a small pile of rocks. The two hurriedly swam over and began to move the rocks. Just as the light was going dim, Flynn was able to burst his way through the rocks. They fell into a river and swam up to the bank, panting heavily.
"We made it." Rapunzel sighed in relief.
"Her hair glows!" Flynn gasped.
"We're alive…I'm alive!" Rapunzel cheered, pulling herself out of the water.
"I didn't see that coming…" Flynn thought to himself. "Her hair actually glows…why does her hair glow?!"
"Eugene!" Rapunzel raised her voice.
"What?" Flynn snapped, still feeling confused and slightly afraid.
"It doesn't just glow." She said, pulling her hair out of the river.
"W-why are you smiling at me…?" Flynn asked.

"So…you're being strangely cryptic as you wrap your magic hair around my injured hand. Urge!" Flynn flinched as Rapunzel tightened her hair around his palm.
"Sorry," Rapunzel shrugged. "Just don't…don't freak out…" Flynn only gave her a confused look. Rapunzel took a deep breath before she began to sing. As she sang, her hair began to glow again, slowly, growing from her scalp and traveling through her locks. The grass around seemed to singe, and the dark air was illuminated by her light. It was so beautiful…
The glow finally reached the ends of her hair, wrapped around Flynn's scar. His hand felt warm…the warmth seemed to slowly travel up his arm and then through his entire body. Once she stopped singing, her hair quickly dimmed. Flynn slowly removed her hair from his hand. He gasped once he realized his scar was gone. There was no trace of it, or the pain it had brought. He took a deep breath, but before he could let out a scream, Rapunzel held up her hands.
"Please don't freak out!" Rapunzel urged, biting her bottom lip.
"Ahhh…I'm not freaking out!" Flynn stammered. "Are you freaking out? No, I'm just very interested in your hair and the magical qualities it possesses. How long has it been doing that exactly?"
"Uh…forever, I guess." Rapunzel replied. "Mother says when I was a baby, people tried to cut it. They wanted to take it for themselves. But…once it's cut-" Rapunzel moved some of her hair aside, revealing a small part of her hair she had kept short. "-it turns brown and loses its' powers. A gift like that…it has to be protected…that's why Mother never let me…that's why…I never left and…" Rapunzel trailed off.
"You never left that tower…" Flynn finished her thought. "And you're still gonna go back?"
"No!" Rapunzel answered quickly. "Yes…" She sighed and buried her face in her hands. "It's complicated…" She was quiet for a moment before taking a deep breath and pulling her hair back. "So, Eugene Fertervert, huh?"
"Nah," Flynn smiled. "I'll spare you the sob story of poor orphan Eugene Fertervert. It's…well…well it's a bit of a downer."
Rapunzel smiled and scooted closer to him, letting him know she was ready to listen.
Flynn chuckled before he began to tell his story. "There was this book… a book I used to read every night to the younger kids. 'The Tales of Flannigan Ryder', swash-buckling rouge, richest man alive- not bad with the ladies either. Not that he would ever brag about it of course."
"Was he a thief too?" Rapunzel asked.
"Uh… Flynn hesitated. "Well, no…actually, he had enough money to do whatever he wanted to do- he could go anywhere he wanted to go. And for a kid, with nothing, it…I don't know…it just…seemed like a better option…" He turned to Rapunzel. "You can't tell anyone about this, all right? It could ruin my whole reputation."
"Ah, we wouldn't want that." Rapunzel agreed.
"Well, a fake reputation is all a man has." Flynn said. He and Rapunzel laughed. "Well, I'm gonna go get some more firewood." He stood up and began to walk away.
"Hey," Rapunzel said. "For the record, I like Eugene Fertervert much better than Flynn Ryder."
Flynn smiled and looked at the hand that had just been healed. "Then you'd be the first…but thank you." He nodded his head and went into the woods.
Story Brook
Regina walked into the waiting room. She glanced around at the patients and families still reuniting. The happiness sickened her. She would often go around and find ways to prevent people from finding each other. The hospital was the perfect place to start. Some patients had been in comas and it was easy to check up on them and make sure no one found them.
"Regina…?" A nurse walked out and hesitantly approached her. "What brings you here?"
"Just wanted to check up on some patients." Regina replied with a sly smile.
The nurse hesitated again. "When will enough be enough Regina?"
Regina sighed. "There is no satisfaction in being wicked." She kept her smile, and locked her eyes on the nurse.
The nurse took a deep breath and led Regina to one of the rooms. Regina looked over at the patient lying in bed. His eyes were barely open, and he was breathing, but slightly. Regina wondered if he was conscious, or at least aware of what was going on around him.
"Has anyone come to visit him?" Regina asked.
"No one," The nurse said. "But, ever since your curse has broken, we found out his name. He went by Flynn Ryder. We don't know anything else about him."
"I see." Regina nodded. "Thanks," She turned and left the room. She was not sure why, but the name sounded strangely familiar… She shook her head and left the hospital. It was none of her concern anyways. She had better things to do.
I was so blocked writing this chapter. And sorry it's a "filler episode", I like to call it. And there's at least one more coming up, but if you're a Samwise Gamgee fan, then you'll like it. I was more eager to write that chapter so hopefully I can get it posted quickly. Leave a comment!
