A few notes before we get started:

The girls' uniform is the one from the live action movie because it's somewhat nicer than the anime one

Haruhi is 5'3 and Honey is 5' for… reasons

Chapter 1

Hayami Tanaka was the only daughter to the boss of the Tanaka Syndicate. Her eldest brother Ryunosuke was to take over the syndicate from their father Shiro Tanaka, when he retired. The Tanaka Syndicate was one of the largest and richest in all of Japan and as such, her enrolment to Ouran Academy was a given. She wasn't the only yakuza child to attend, oh no, she knew of at least three others in her year group alone, a one Ritsu Kasanoda especially. Hayami had known him since they had been small kids.

As much as Hayami loved her father and her older brothers, she didn't want to become a mob wife or really have anything to do with the yakuza. She wanted to graduate from Ouran and live her own life away from it all. Of course she was grateful for what the syndicate money had done to give her a great life but she sought something different, something… safer. As close as they were, she hadn't told Ritsu, afraid that he might not feel the same way about Yakuza life and turn her in.

Where Ritsu was in class 1-D, Hayami herself was in class 1-A which had made her the subject for discussion after the opening ceremony. Yakuza kids tended to stay in C or below, only really coming to school to prove that their parents had money. It was never really an education thing for them as mostly they would be either heading up or working for their family syndicate after graduation.

In the first two weeks here she'd come to realise that people were terrified of Ritsu which wasn't a surprise; the boy always had a face that suggested he'd kill you, In her case however, people were curious. Hayami was petite and pretty with a head of dark blonde hair and large hazel green eyes, a fluttering of freckles across her cheeks and a heart shaped face free of blemishes. If someone didn't know she was a yakuza kid, they'd likely mistake her for some rich businessman's daughter. Most yakuza kids were like Ritsu, rough around the edges and generally delinquents, which was the typical way to go. Hayami had never been in trouble with the law or school or anything, her grades were always exemplary and her uniform was always worn perfectly… even the teachers were surprised when they learned of her family.

Hayami had yet to make friends but she was at least on talking terms with a couple girls in her class, which the same couldn't be said for Ritsu. He'd obviously had her as a friend and a couple other yakuza kids but Hayami had made acquaintances outside of the yakuza circle and he hadn't and honestly, she'd rather they stay acquaintances for their sake.

Hayami's POV

"So Tanaka-chan are you going to come to Host Club today?" Izumi Sasaki stopped by my desk.

"Hmmm… maybe? I'm not sure Sasaki-chan" I shrugged lightly.

I'd planned on heading straight home after school, I mean sure, I'd been there a few times but I didn't understand why the other girls were squealing swooning messes. They were just boys weren't they? Sure, they were good looking and charming but… they were just boys underneath it all.

The day crawled by slowly until finally last bell rang. I'd not seen Ritsu all day so I could only assume he'd stayed out of trouble. I'd also decided I needed to go to Host Club… I needed to request Mori and Honey and talk about what was bugging me. At least Honey soothed my issues with cake and Mori was a good listener. Stuffing everything back into my bag, I slid from my seat and left the classroom.

"Haya-chan, is everything okay?" Honey asked as I sat down, Takashi helping to scoot my chair in before taking his seat.

I sighed. Honey and Mori knew I was a yakuza child, I mean how could they not? But unlike the rest of the school, they didn't seem to care. I mean sure, they were hosts, they were meant to entertain any girls who showed up at their table, regardless of who they were but there had never been that stiff conversation and they'd never brushed off my complaints.

"I… I don't know Honey-senpai" I sighed again as Honey reached for some cake.

"Here Haya-chan, have some cake" he smiled sweetly, placing a plate before me with a piece of strawberry cake perched upon it.

"Thanks…" I prodded it with my fork.

"You know you can tell us anything" Honey smiled as Mori poured me some tea.

"I know Honey-senpai… it's just…" I paused "if I say it… anyone could hear it… and I'd get in trouble"

That seemed to unsettle him, as when I looked up he had a rather concerned look in his eyes.

"Is it that serious?"

I nodded, taking a sip of my tea. I wanted to sit here and tell them that I didn't want to be Yakuza anymore, that I'd rather be poor than be feared… that I didn't want to have to someday be a mob wife… but if anyone overheard me it could cause so many troubles.

My mother had been from a prosperous background but she fell into a bad crowd when she was just out of high school and ended up marrying my father against her parents' wishes because she was pregnant with my eldest brother. Her family continued to try and support her however and finally one day she snapped… she hadn't realised being a mob wife would be so hard and in all honesty I don't think she quite realised what went on until my father became the syndicate boss. Once that happened, she saw the syndicate for what it really was and decided to leave my father. A messy divorce happened, an under the table kind of divorce that resulted in my father keeping me and my brothers and she was forbidden to ever see us again. Last I'd heard, she was living with my grandparents whom I'd only met as a small child. I'd received secret birthday cards and gifts from them that had always been delivered to school to avoid angering my father, something nobody else knew about.

My brothers wanted nothing to do with her. Seeing as they had all been old enough to already be brainwashed by the whole Yakuza syndication thing by the time my parents split, they had turned their backs on her. I on the other hand had only been about three at the time and so uncorrupted yet greatly affected by her departure.

Many times my grandparents had written to me, telling me I'd have a home with them and my mother if ever I was able to leave the syndicate and boy was it tempting. My mother's family name was Miyazaki and my mother is actually the family head. She'd remained unmarried after leaving my father to concentrate on the business side of things and when Grandfather retired, she'd taken ownership of the company.

"I just… I feel…. I need… I don't know… a mother?"I felt my eyes stinging with unshed tears and I saw Honey's face crumple softly.

"Oh Haya-chaaaaan!" his eyes were sparkling with unshed tears as he moved to wrap his arms around me.

I sniffled softly, trying to suck the tears back up, refusing to cry on his shoulder.

"Oh Haya-chan… I'm sorry" Honey pulled back to look at me "do you miss her? Your mom?"

I nodded "I miss her very much Honey-senpai" I dabbed at my eyes to rid the evidence of tears.

I managed to compose myself so I could continue.

"I haven't seen her since I was about three years old… I had to go through so many things a girl would need her mother for but instead I had a maid who didn't really care" I shrugged "She was only there because father paid her to be and because I'm pretty sure he was sleeping with her"

Honey pulled a face and Mori grunted his disapproval of what I'd said.

"I shouldn't really be telling you that" I sighed "its family business after all and not the subject for discussion with people who aren't"

Honey frowned as I pushed to stand "Haya-chan…" he said softly.

"I'm sorry, I should go" and with that I turned and left.

Normal POV

Honey watched as Hayami made a hasty exit, almost bumping into Tamaki on her way out. He sighed softly as he sat back down.

"She's really upset about something isn't she Takashi?" he asked the tall boy sitting next to him.

"Hm" he responded, his own eyes focused on the door as it closed sharply behind her.

"We have to do something for her" Honey nodded quickly.

"Mitsukuni… it isn't our place to interfere"

"But Takashi…"

"We have to wait for her to ask for help" the tall host replied.

"I guess you're right Takashi…" the loli-shota sighed, grabbing himself another slice of cake.

Hayami's cry for help would come sooner than either of them expected.

Dun dun duuuuunnnn! I hope this first chapter isn't too boring... it's likely the story wont focus hugely on the Host Club in the first few chapters but I hope you enjoyed it! Please leave me a review and let me know what you think!
