Never Alone

It wasn't right. That her mother was gone. It wasn't fair. That her father had to work so much she practically ran the house all on her own by the time she was five. It wasn't okay. That everything around her seemed to have such a glaze on it sometimes because she had so much she had to do, and so little time to focus on these other things like people. So when she died, she died alone. When she was left there, stuck on the same plane but never really anywhere.

She had loved her father. She had. She had loved her mother as well. After drifting around for long enough, you sort of lose your grip on everything though, and when everything seems to just be a slight buzzing behind you it's a little hard to feel anything. Especially when she'd been doing that for a long time. Maybe. She wasn't sure. She was sort of just floating around somewhere on the Far Shore, waiting to see if anything would ever happen.

Nothing ever did.

It was some odd day in never when she felt a tug. A tug? That was new… When met with no resistance, her essence was dragged off and away from the far shore. She was feeling something, for the first time in a long time, something was happening.

When she opened her eyes (eyes? Since when did she have those?) she was surrounded by candles "It worked! We've summoned one!"

'Summoned?' She felt heavy. She felt! She had a body! How long had it been? An infinity for all she knew, but she was here now, even if she wasn't entirely sure where here was. "It looks rather frail…" The voice was higher than the last one, female?

"Show some respect!" She flexed her fingers and squirmed her back(!) before willing a sharp intake of breath to flow in through her nose. "I thought they'd be wearing more clothes though, this is somewhat awkward..."

"Some of my spare clothes, perhaps?"

"Yes, Kanazuki, that may be in order. Though they will be slightly too large, anything is better than nothing."

"Of course President Nekozawa, one moment please."

'President Nekozawa must be the deeper voice, and Kanazuki the higher one. A man and woman?'

"Madam spirit, I ask y-"

"Haruhi" She interrupted (she decided she rather liked having a voice)

"Excuse me?"

"My name is Fujioka Haruhi."

"Oh, um, my apologies. Miss. Fujioka, I ask you tell us-"

"There's nothing to tell."

After a few blinks she took note of her surroundings, President Nekozawa was wearing a black cloak and had black hair obscuring much of his face.

"Miss. Fujioka?"

"There's nothing there. Time flows through you instead of around, and it feels like there's constantly a beehive in your head, even though you don't have one. It's existing for the sake of existing, though it can hardly even be called that. There's nothing to say because nothing happens there, you lose track of everything. I only know my name because I spent the past who knows how long thinking only of that. Otherwise I might've gone like the others."

"Gone... on?"

"Gone mad."

Kanazuki entered the room before an 'Oh' could escape his lips "I have returned!" She declared

"Ah, yes, thank you Kanazuki. Could you possibly, assist... Miss. Fujioka? I will take my leave for a moment." And he was gone

"Fujioka?"

"Yes, Fujioka Haruhi."

"May I...?" The question was understood

Haruhi stood and looked her dead in the eye "If you'd like"

Kanazuki was gentle when slipping her arms into the sleeves, she mentioned some boy while zipping the back. "Did you ever have someone like that, Miss. Fujioka?"

Haruhi blinked Had she? She couldn't remember. Then again... "Yes, yes I did. I think I loved him very much. I don't really remember anything at all, but... there was a boy once, and I can't remember, but I'm almost sure I loved him."

"Oh my, had he captured your soul? That might explain why you remember so little other than him..." Kanazuki's face had hints of worry and Haruhi felt an odd tingling in her newfound chest at this expression.

"No, I don't think so. His soul moved on instead." Yes, that much she was sure of. This boy, whoever he was, had long moved on to the next life in the next body.

"Moved on, Miss. Fujioka?"

"You can call me Haruhi if you'd like, I am wearing your clothes."

"My name is Kanazuki Reiko, you're welcome to call me Reiko if you'd like. I was simply confused by what you meant by move on?" The dress was on and the two girls were facing each other talking now

"His soul, it didn't linger at the nearer side of the far shore like I did, he moved on and was reincarnated, I'm quite sure of it. I don't know how old he would be now, I don't have any idea how long it's been since our deaths."

"You look very nice, though my uniform is somewhat large on you..."

A set of dark double doors opened and the president returned, light and a scream seeping in through the opening "I decided to take a visit to the host club, it was most enjoyable. You are done, Kanazuki?" Haruhi wanted to see that room, something about it felt terribly familiar.

"Yes President Nekozawa, she is fully clothed."

"Wonderful!" She disliked this boy, though she was unsure why. It felt like something she should know, so why didn't she...? At the moment there was a single blaring question that had been mostly ignored before now,

"Why did you bring me here?"

"Ah, Miss. Fujioka, we have brought you back in hopes of easing your spirits suffering. Due to your being trapped in an almost limbo for so many years, your essence has caused many strange happenings at the school, and as president of Ouran Academy Black Magic club, I felt the need to release you. Not to mention I am bound my familial occult ties to help a spirit such as yourself in need."

"How long was it then, that I was gone?"

"Well Miss. Fujioka, you died almost 40 years ago with 6 other students in the very room I just entered from. Now it is referred to as a music room and used for a student Host Club."

A host club?

A/N: I have 2 and a half of the planned 5 chapters completed. The pairing is up for vote on my profile. Please note that I haven't read the manga and Reiko is a manga only character but I needed her, so my apologies if she is OOC, I'm really just playing it by ear with her.
