Lucy to Susan, or
Scarlett Cash to BrokenKestral
Dear Susan,
I know that you just left, but I couldn't wait to write you, and since you won't receive this until you and Mum and Dad are off the ship, I figured it couldn't hurt to go ahead and do so. It may also come as a nice surprise to find this waiting for you since you are so far away from home. And at the very least, it will serve as a reminder of your favorite little sister even while you're busy engaging in all sorts of new activities.
I still can't believe you are going to America - how exciting! I wish I could have gone, too. I know it probably won't be too different than England, but it is still a new country and an entire ocean away. It must feel like going to a whole other world! I do miss that feeling.
I imagine the liner you're on being like our Splendour Hyaline. Certainly not as fair to look at, but still reminiscent enough of sailing the Eastern Ocean to feel like a great journey. Maybe, if you look hard enough or at just the right time, you'll catch a glimpse of a mermaid deep down in the waters. Pirates and sailors in this world used to tell stories about them and sea serpents and all sorts of other beast lurking below in the depths of the oceans! And Professor Kirk always says there's a little bit of truth behind every legend, so maybe there were some here after all. Maybe they wound up in Narnia same as we did, from this world. Or maybe they came from Narnia to our world? Imagine if you saw something! I think it'd be both terrifying and amazing. Though, certainly much more amazing than terrifying, of course.
Oh, I do hope you don't mind me speaking of Narnia. I know it may still be fresh for you and Peter. It's just that being stuck here at Aunt Alberta's and Uncle Harold's is so tiresome, I want nothing more than to go on just one more adventure!
And of course, there's Eustace. He is probably what makes this stay (and watching you and Peter leave without us) so difficult. I do not understand how one person can be so absolutely inane. We've only just started our stay here, and I'm already afraid that Edmund's eventually going to wallop off his head one of these days. Aunt Alberta most certainly won't stand for that. She'll blame Ed entirely and think nothing of Eustace's badgering. I just hope she doesn't wire Mum a list of Edmund's faults. It's sure to stir up both her and him, and even though I have to live with it, there is no reason you and Dad should. I am praying daily that Aslan grants us that gentleness of yours. Maybe then we can get through the summer with all of us unscathed.
I do hope you're having fun and don't forget to write! Please remember me while you are out on your own adventure. I can't wait to hear of all you're doing. And please give Mum and Dad my love.
Your loving sister,
Lucy
