Chapter 6
24 hours.
That was how long it took before I got a text from Honey letting me know that they had 'possibly solved the translation' that I had been looking for. Colour me impressed, I honestly thought I wouldn't hear anything back for a few weeks… but then again, they'd probably gotten help from the other members of the Host Club and boy could those guys move fast on things. I'd seen them pull a massive event together in less than a day and that was only three weeks ago, their opening event of the school year.
The fact that the text was sent in code made me feel a little fuzzy inside because it just proved to me that they really did care and it wasn't just something to fill their time. They could have outright text me saying that they had come up with a plan to get me out of my arranged marriage and not been bothered if anyone else saw it but no… Honey cared enough to do it in code.
The text had come in at lunch time along with another straight after, asking me to come to music room three next period, which was a free one. Ritsu didn't have to stay after school today, so it would have been hard to slip away after last bell. I walked with Ritsu to class after lunch and we parted ways, me to music room three and him to math class.
My footsteps subconsciously quickened as I turned down the hall, hyper focused on the noises around me, listening for anyone who might be trying to follow me. With luck, I arrived and was able to slip inside unnoticed, into the pastel pink sanctuary that held the very thing that drove all the girls in this school to semi-madness… Host Club.
Normal POV
"Haya-chan!" Honey beamed as Hayami slipped in through the doors.
"Hey Honey-senpai" she smiled, approaching the smallest host and his strong silent counterpart.
"Hayami…" Mori smiled.
"H-hello Mori-senpai" she felt an odd fluttering in the pit of her stomach as she stuttered out her greeting, cheeks flushed a little pink.
Honey giggled and hopped up from the couch to grab Hayami's hand and guide her to sit on the couch opposite them, right as Tamaki and the others arrived, taking their seats with Honey and Mori.
"Hello there princess" Tamaki smiled that charming yet genuine smile, hands resting in his lap "I understand you need our help"
Hayami had tensed when the other host club members had joined them but the gentle way that Tamaki spoke had her relax.
"Y-yes… I assume Honey-senpai o-or Mori-senpai filled you in?" she asked quietly.
"Indeed they did" Kyoya spoke up "I must say… I applaud you for wanting out"
"You… you do?" she blinked, watching Kyoya carefully
"Of course… it's a dangerous lifestyle you currently lead, not one fit for such a beautiful princess" there was a small smirk upon his lips.
His words seemed to have some effect on those present. Hayami went beet red and stared down at her hands in her lap, Tamaki's head whipped round to stare at Kyoya, Haruhi sighed, Honey blinked a few times and Mori tensed up, giving off some kind of annoyed aura which had the twins smirking mischievously. Was Kyoya genuinely hitting on Hayami, or was he doing it to get a rise out of Mori? Regardless, the conversation continued.
"It is dangerous" Hayami spoke up quietly after a moment "I've been kidnapped twice before in a bid for the enemy to get to my father"
The group stayed silent, though Tamaki had a look of horror on his face.
"I had a plan… I was going to graduate, I was then going to study law or something and build a life away from the syndicate but… well that won't happen unless…"
"Unless your arranged marriage falls through?" Kyoya asked
"Exactly" she sighed softly "but I don't know how to do that without everything falling apart"
"How would everything fall apart?" Haruhi asked curiously
"Well… my family and the Kasanoda family are the two biggest syndicates and this arranged marriage is meant to bring our families together for a peaceful future… If I don't marry Ritsu… it could spell all out war on both sides" Hayami explained, her eyes lowering as she sighed
"I see…" Kyoya had moved to his laptop and began typing "is there anything that could tip the scales in your favour? Anything you could think of that could break the marriage amicably?"
Hayami shook her head "nothing… unless…" she paused "unless by some miracle the Kasanoda patriarch is doing something shady behind closed doors to mess with my family" she shrugged a little.
"Hmm…" Kyoya's typing got faster "as I understand, your mother cannot step in and aid you, due to the divorce terms… or else I would have suggested going to live with her, where your father couldn't enforce his rule"
"Right…" she fiddled with her bracelet, eyes focused down at her feet.
A few more minutes passed in silence, well aside from the sound of Kyoya typing away and the breathing of the group gathered.
"I don't mean to be rude" Hayami looked up, breaking the silence "but… I was under the impression that you possibly had the answer to my predicament…"
"Yes, we already have the answer; I am just doing a last minute check on some details I requested…" Kyoya mumbled as he clicked through some emails.
"Never underestimate the shadow king" Hikaru and Kaoru spoke up in unison with a knowing smirk on their lips.
Everyone sat in silence for another five minutes or so before Kyoya closed his laptop and returned to the couches. He had a glint in his eye that suggested he had something good and by something good, it was something good for Hayami… or at least he hoped she would find it to be good news.
"How much do you trust the men closest to your father?" he asked.
The question made Hayami blink and tilt her head "well… my father trusts them with his life, so I guess I trust them that much also?"
"How about a certain Ryoma Tatsu?" he rose a brow, watching Hayami's expression.
"I trust Ryoma… he's been there since my parents' divorce and he was one of the men who rescued me when I was kidnapped both times… Why?" Hayami felt that familiar sinking feeling in her gut that came before bad news.
"The information I was waiting for confirmation on, was about him" he paused to adjust his glasses "Ryoma Tatsu isn't who you think he is Hayami"
Aw hell! So something BIG is about to be revealed! How is Hayami going to deal with the bombshell that's about to drop?! Ahh! You'll find out next chapter!
