Prologue
Izuku Midoriya never smiled. No one ever saw him do it. Everyone thought it fit him, not smiling. It would be weird to see. He was blank.
Izuku Midoriya's eyes never shined. They never held any emotion. Everyone thought it was rather fitting, a boy who never smiled being a boy with blank eyes. Nothing had to change.
Izuku Midoriya never talked. No one ever heard him utter a word. (If the king of the school ever heard you say that though, he would deny it and say that Izuku always talked to him. Everyone knew he was lying.) It worked well, like a puzzle with all the pieces. The boy who never smiled, whose eyes never shined, was also the boy who never talked. It worked.
And yet, no one really liked Izuku Midoryia. All the kids at his school though he was weird. It didn't matter that all his traits fit well together, because they were all weird traits. Even though he was smart, and had a pretty awesome quirk, still nobody liked him.
Except well- that wasn't all true. Midoriya did have one friend. Bakugo Katsuki. No one- including Midoriya- understood why Bakugo hung out with him, or protected him from the especially bold students. Maybe it was because they had been friends for years- since they were in diapers practically. Maybe it was because Bakugo had been there the day Midoriya lost his mother and half of his sight. Maybe it was because Midoriya was smart, and helped him keep his grades up and control his quirk.
No one knew why except Bakugo Katsuki himself, and he'd be damned if he let anyone get near his little brother. No one needed to now. And they never would.
