Izuku Midoriya frowned down at his textbook. He didn't understand the point of learning English. Americans had such a strange language, and it wasn't like he ever planned on leaving Japan. He already knew english, of course. It wasn't like he could very well listen to American songs without understanding the lyrics.
But he also knew many other languages, Izuku mused. It was a funny thing- he knew so many different languages, and yet he never spoke. Izuku never told anyone why exactly he became mute, but he always thought it didn't matter.
Izuku was brought out of his thoughts when a scream of frustration came from the seat next to him. Turning his head, Izuku saw his friend Kachan had the textbook in between his hands and was making small explosions that were destroying the school distributed book.
"BAKUGO!" Their teacher yelled in anger. His face was purple and his hand was wrapped around the piece of chalk in his hands so hard it broke and covered his hands in white dust.
Bakugo looked angrily back at the teacher and sneered.
"You can't just destroy anything that pisses you off! Jesus Christ kid…" The teacher loses steam halfway through the lecture and Bakugo smirks in victory. He tosses the smoking book to the side and kicks his feet up on the desk and leans back in his chair. Izuku just stares at him with blank eyes before sighing and going back to his assignment.
About 10 minutes later (and a thousand glares aimed at a snoring Kachan) the teacher stands up to announce that he has something to say before the bell. Izuku nuges Kachan awake.
"You're all 3rd years now, so it's time to make a decision for the future. I would pass out highschool forms…. But I know you're all going for the hero course!" Everyone in the class starts to cheer and show off their quirks. Izuku flinches at all the noise.
"Don't lump me and Zuku in with the rest of these extras! Well be the only student from this useless school to get into UA!" Bakugo exclaims loudly, much to Izuku's dismay. The class explodes with rage.
"You want to fight Bakugo!"
"Hey come at me I'll fight all you useless extras at once and win!" Bakugo yells with a sinister smirk on his face.
"Hey didn't Bakugo say Midoriya would get in?" a girl in the back row whispers to her friend. Her friend scoffs
"Yeah right! He's such a creep. He's way too scary to be a hero, like UA would even accept him anyways. He's such a loser!" Bakugo doesn't seem to hear the two girls over his shouting match with the other kid, but Izuku does, and he wants to turn around and punch them both in the face.
The bell ringing brings him out of his head. Izuku stands up to pack his backpack up, and ends up doing Bakugos as well since he was to busy grumbling about the "dumb extras" to pick up his damn pencil case.
Izuku drops the backpack on Bakugos head and calmly walks out of the room, footsteps silent and practiced.
"Wh- hey Zuku! Where the hell do you think you're going loser!?" Bakugo yells after him. Izuku turns around to wait for his friends to catch up.
"I have to go pick up some things from my workshop, you go ahead and I'll catch up okay?" Izuku signs. Bakugo doesn't look too happy about leaving him alone, but agrees anyway.
"Hurry up okay Zuku, I need your help with this damn english assignment so you can't take too long, got it?" Izuku nods then walks away from Bakugo when they get to the gate.
The walk to Izuku's workshop is peaceful, but too quiet. But Izuku left his headphones at home. Izuku doesn't have any problem with silence, but it's empty silence like this, where the nearest person is too far for him to sense their heart beat.
Izuku walks faster.
. . .
When Izuku gets to his workshop, it takes a bit of shaking to get the door open, but he gets in. His workshop had taken nearly two years to finish making, and he loved it.
It looked like a run down and rusty shed on the outside, but on the inside… it wasn't much better. But it was much bigger than it looked. It was 600 square feet, about the size of an average living room (probably) and there were built in benches lining every wall except for where it had to make space for 2 doors parallel to each other. The main room of the Izuku workshop for building and engineering. The back room was for biological work. Izuku carefully steps around stools and tools and fallen projects to get to the lab section of his workshop. When he opened the door and turned on the lights, you could see the clear difference between the lab and the workshop.
The workshop was cluttered and stained with soot and grease and other strange substances, but the lab was pristine and white and clean and organized. But all Izuku needed right now was the tall jar of mini beating hearts on the counter.
Grabbing the jar, Izuku silently wished his quirk wasn't so creepy.
