Chapter one
Mike's POV
It was the middle of November and I was sitting in my room waiting for my SuperCom to turn on to the sound of El's voice.
I had kept my promise of calling her a lot but I could tell she didn't like her new home. I didn't like her there either but I had to be strong for her. It's crazy, a year ago I had no idea where she was or what to do with myself when I had only shared one kiss with her. Now she's gone and I'm reliving last year in a constant state of agitation and sadness.
I flung my homework to the side to wait for Eleven to pick up the Walkie-Talkie. I had been waiting for only ten minutes, but a dark cloud formed at the back of my head.
What if she didn't care if she talked to me or not?
What if she didn't want to be my girlfriend anymore?
What if she was with another boy who was way better then me?
What if the bad men took her?
I was taking sharp, quick breaths and I could barely make out my room anymore through my tears. I was shaking when her voice came through the SuperCom.
"Mike?"
I threw my blanket I draped over myself aside and raised the antenna and excitedly shouted back.
"EL!!!"
I could hear her giggle and I could almost picture the adorable grin on her face.
"What have you been up to?"
" Nothing"
I smiled and wanted to hug her so badly right now.
"Are you still coming for Thanksgiving?"
"Yes"
My heart almost jumped I was so happy.
"I'll see you this week then!"
I could hear her victory cheers and smiles. Soon I'd see them for real.
"I have to go"
"El?"
"Mike?"
I wanted to tell her, but I didn't want to startle her.
"I um am happy you'll be home. Everyone misses you."
We then said our goodbyes and then I raced to my bike with my homework in hand to go to Dustin's house.
We were having a study night because of the exams we would have to take soon. I always have good grades but math became my least favorite when one number was mentioned.
Eleven.
I always had Dustin and Lucas turn to face me so they could make sure I wasn't too upset. Max took it hard, finally becoming friends with El to have her and Will be ripped from us so suddenly.
It made me feel sick that I wasn't going to see them for another six months. Nancy took it hard too, with Jonathan being gone.
My head raced with thoughts on my bike.
I normally had a conversation longer then that with El. It was then I realized I had gone around Dustin's neighborhood about ten times and he was calling me.
"Dude what are you doing?" Lucas sternly asked.
"Nothing"
"He was thinking of El again." Max came out of the garage and smirked.
"How is she?"
"She said it's still a positive for coming for thanksgiving."
"...And?"
"I might of um"
"What?"
I mumbled my phrase and everyone did a position of confusion.
"What?"
"I- *mumble*"
"You what?"
"I CHICKENED OUT OK? I F-CKING CHICKENED OUT!" I yelled in frustration.
Everyone was laughing and I scoffed and put my bike in the garage and went inside to do homework.
Everyone filled in the room with Lucas doing History homework with Max's head in his lap. He could barely concentrate but she seemed to enjoy the fact he was struggling not to blush.
Me and Dustin suppressed a chuckle and went on with our homework.
About two hours later, all of us had finished all six classes and went downstairs to get on our bikes to go to the arcade.
Just then, all of our SuperComs rang out in Eleven's voice.
"THEY GOT WILL! THEY GOT WILL!"
