Second Generation- the first year

A/N: Sorry if this is a shorter chapter than the others; it's only the 'decision'.

Chapter 4- The decision

Harry and Ginny stood shaking on their bedroom floor, both afraid and unnerved. Harry wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. He had the idea that he should take Krysta as his own, since she was his own godfather's cousin, but he needed to know what Ginny thought, which is why he had showed her the memories.

"Ginny, are you alright?" he asked her, because she was still shaking.

"No child should have to go through that," she whispered. "I don't feel so horrible about my own capture anymore..."

Harry knew seeing Riddle must have been hard for her. He hugged her close.

For a moment they just stood there like that. Then Harry said, "They were caught in a time warp when they went through that storm, and it took a lot out of Anna. The house they apeared in was that of a man named Simeon Standpole, and they were barely found there this morning. Krysta is Hogwarts' age, and her mother died not three hours ago," Harry said, looking at the clock.

"She's my godfather's cousin, Ginny... And she needs a family."

Ginny looked up at him, took a deep breath, and said, "this is going to be hard."

Harry hugged her still closer, and said "I know. But we've got to take care of her."

Ginny reached up to kiss him, then broke off to get her purse. "We'd better get to St. Mungo's."

They reached St. Mungo's in less than ten minutes, Harry having sent a warning Patronus to Seamus. He met them at the door once aagain, a little surprised to see Ginny with him.

"Why did you bring her?" asked Seamus.

"Because this concerns her too," Harry replied, "therefore we watched the memories together.

Seamus raised an eyerow, but motioned that they follow him. He led them down to a different hallway, and Harry guessed that she was waiting in the lobby. Seamus opened the door to the waiting room, and Harry saw the little girl from the pensieve, looking almost the same as before. She looked up at him with tearful eyes.

Harry looked back, unsure of what to say.

"Hello, Krysta," Ginny said to her. "We are the Potters. My name is Ginny, this is my husband, Harry. I understand you've been through a lot."

Krysta looked back down. "No, you don't... He's not your father..."

Ginny took careful steps toward her. "No, but your mother gave us memories of hers, to show us what life was like for you two. Krysta, I was once captured by him. I know somewhat how your mother felt. Harry saved me."

At this, Krysta looked back up. "My mother was the only one who ever cared, and she died..." she bit her lip. "Why did you come back, anyway? Mr. Finnigan told me you were coming back to see me."

"We were, dear, and we also wanted to ask you something. I understand your mother told you about Hogwarts?" Harry said.

Krysta nodded. "I want to go there... My mom wanted me to."

Ginny smiled at her. "You will go there, Krysta. If you agree, you can also begin a new life with us. We won't ever hurt you, Krysta. We promise."

She held out her hand. Krysta stared at it.

"He'll come for me," she moaned fearfully.

"The Dark Lord Voldemort died 19 years ago, Krysta. I killed him," Harry told her. "Don't you worry about a thing. You are safe at Hogwarts."

Krysta stared at him. "He's dead?"

"Yes."

It was as if she had been thrown into a happier, alternate universe. Krysta jumped up, taking Ginny's hand like the happiest little girl on Earth.

"I'm coming with you," she said, and they left to Diagon Alley.

Harry was only glad he was an auror, otherwise we would have to go through millions more paperwork than he did now. Ginny was helping Krysta gather her things for Hogwarts back in Diagon Alley, where Harry had left them after making sure they could do it by themselves. He had not yet contacted Hermione, or told Lily she had a new sister. The first thing he had done was owl Professor McGonnagal. As soon as he finished the paperwork, he was going to owl Albus and James too. However, he still had a couple of files left.

He knew that Krysta and Ginny had finished shopping and were on their way to Hogsmeade by then, so he hurried with the paperwork. Suddenly a patronus came zooming over, landing in front of him. It was Hermione's.

"Bringing Lily back; we can't take care of her past dinner. Ron and Hugo coming too."

Harry groaned. He hadn't expected them to come back so soon. Quickly, he finished the last bit of paperwork and owled it to the ministry. He knew they wouldn't refuse him for taking care of Krysta, but he had to do the paperwork and send it in anyway. Grumbling about Hermione's last minute thing, Harry ran outside to wait for them.

Minutes later, the Knight Bus arrived in front of his house, and he watched as Ron, Hermione, Hugo, and Lily got off, looking frazled.

"Hello, Harry. Been keeping anything from us lately?" asked Ron.

"Yes, but I can only tell you when you come inside."

"Oh, fine," said Ron. Hermione looked simply irritated.

"Ron, I left the food cooking!"

"It's OK, this won't take more that a minute," Harry reassured her, and he let them into the house. "Lily, Hugo, stay here. This concerns you too."

Lily and Hugo looked curious. Ron sat down on the couch, pulling Hermione with him.

Harry took a deep breath. "Voldemort has a daughter," he said.

Hermione gasped. "But... That's impossible, Harry!"

Harry waved her away. "Orion Black's mother ran away when she found she was pregnant with Sirius's cousin he never knew about. She gave birth in a little orhpanage, and died, but not without telling the owner of the place a little about Hogwarts and such. Little Anna Mary Black was then kidnapped by Tom Riddle, and he raised her under the Imperious curse, teaching her magic. When she turned 19, he raped her, and she became pregnant with Krysta Elfrida Riddle. He forced Krysta to drink three drops of Phoenix tears every morning until she was three, so now she has healing powers. He tortured Anna and Krysta until Krysta was 6, when they finally ran away, because Anna was resisting the Imperious. When Krysta turned 11, her mother wanted her to go to Hogwarts, and she herself wanted to join the Order. So they strapped a trunk of their possesions to their brooms, and began the journey back over the Atlantic Ocean. They were caught in a time-warp storm, and apeared so many years later in an old muggle's house, where they were discovered. They were taken to St. Mungo's when they were discovered early this morning, and I received a call from Seamus to come quick. I went, and I visited Anna, who gave me her memories of these things. I came back and watched them with Ginny, then returned and adopted Krysta into my family, because her mother died just before I had left. Ginny is taking her to Hogwarts this instant. Which means, Lily, that you have a sister. Hugo, you have another cousin. I'm about to owl Albus and James with the news; I assumed you would tell Rosie. I had to take her in; she's my godfather's cousin."

Hermione, Ron, Hugo, and Lily stared at him, then suddenly Lily burst out into a happy chant:

"I have a SISTER! I have a SISTER!"

"Ginny wanted to take her in after seeing the memories," Harry told Ron and Hermione over the noise. "Hush, Lily. She said she couldn't bear seeing a child have to live like that."

"Well, Harry," Ron said, "You've adopted the Darkest wizard of all time's daughter. What will you do next?"

Harry laughed. "She may be Voldemort's daughter, but she has her mother's heart. She hates her father."

"You'd better owl Albus and James soon, Harry," Hermione told him. "You can't keep it from them..."

"I'm waiting on Sherman to come back so I can deliver the letters at the same time. I'm afraid Candy will only take it as far as one of the boys. I'll send her to Albus; he has more patience with her than James does... He usually yells at her or something."

Hermione sighed. "At least Ginny likes this kid..." she muttered.

A/N: I had soooo much fun writing this one... Especially naming the owls...

Story behind names of the owls:

Candy was named when Lily said her first word: Candy. She looked straight at the new owl, which had just gotten a treat from Harry and exclaimed "Candy!"

From then on, that was the owl's name.

Sherman was James's idea, it just popped into his head.
