Thank you to ruthiejean who, in the first one-shot, suggested I do these stories in first-person point of view. I did that for this one, and I hope it has come to everyone's taste.
BEFORE HOGWARTS
Ron had met someone. Someone famous. Someone who I couldn't help but stare at. It became a problem. I talked to mom all the time about that person. She got annoyed, so I stayed in my room a lot.
FIRST YEAR
I didn't know what was happening. There were times that year that I couldn't remember anything. I tried to tell him, I did, but Percy came and I couldn't say it.
Then later, I went down, down into the chamber. I couldn't remember anything that happened after.
The next thing I knew, he was there, looking down at me, helping me escape. And there was Ron and Gilderoy Lockhart. They made a hole in the wall of rocks, and Ron helped me through and brought me into a hug. Fawkes the Phoenix brought us out and we were saved. All because of him.
SECOND YEAR
I ran through the halls to get to my next lesson. It didn't help that my mind was somewhere completely different from schoolwork. As I raced to Defense Against the Dark Arts that afternoon, only one thought was on my mind. And it definitely wasn't learning how to do Protego.
"Miss Weasley, you're late." Remus Lupin said as I sat down. I could tell he wasn't mad though.
"Sorry," I replied as I took my book out.
"Have the Wrackspurts gone into your brain?" a voice came from my left. I instantly knew who it was. One, because the voice was that far-off, not-really-paying-attention sort of voice; and two, no one other than Luna Lovegood talked about Wrackspurts. I turned my head to look at the calm face with long dirty blond hair. Her silver-blue eyes had the concerned look they always did when someone seemed hurt.
"Uh, no…" I reassured her. "It's just something else."
Luna nodded knowingly and looked back at Professor Lupin.
"Protego is a spell that gives you a great shield…" Professor Lupin started.
I tried to focus on class, but my mind kept wandering away. And Luna seemed to know exactly what I was thinking. It's a mystery how that girl does it.
"Gin!" a voice called from behind me as I walked out of class (Luna had somehow disappeared). I turned around to see the bushy brown hair of my other best friend, Hermione Granger.
"Hey, Hermione," I said. "How was potions?"
"As terrible as ever," Hermione replied. "Snape's told us we need to do twelve feet of writing on the Draught of Living Death."
"But you love homework."
"Yes, but not when I have to do Harry and Ron's too." There it was again. The word that kept me distracted. I must have been distracted then too, because a few seconds later, Hermione was waving her hand in front of my face saying, "Ginny? Gin, are you okay?"
"Wha—yeah, I'm fine," I told her. "Let's go."
"Oh, hey, Luna," Hermione said as Luna came out from around the corner.
"Hello, Hermione," Luna replied. Hermione, Luna, and I all walked to the Great Hall together for dinner. Luna made her way to the Ravenclaw table as Hermione and I walked to the Gryffindor table.
"Hey, Harry. Hey, Ron." Hermione said as we sat down. And there it was again. The word that was in my head.
"Hey, Hermione. Gin." Harry replied. I nodded at him in acknowledgment, then started to eat very fast.
"Gin? Are you sure you're okay?" Hermione's anxious voice came from beside me.
"What makes you say that?" I asked.
"You're sweating and your hand is moving super fast," Ron replied.
"I'm fine. I'm gonna head to the common room." They all nodded slowly as I got up and walked as calmly as possible out of the loud Great Hall. As soon as I got outside, I practically sprinted to the common room.
"Flibbertigibbet." I breathed in front of the portrait of the Fat Lady. She opened the door to the familiar red and gold decorated common room of the Gryffindors.
I ran upstairs and quickly changed into my PJs.
Later that night, at around midnight, I was sitting in the common room, trying to do my homework. But my mind wouldn't go off that word. I was thankful for a distraction when Hermione came down. She had done up her hair and had a dress on. I didn't think she would do that for nothing.
"Hermione?" I called, getting up. "Where are you going?"
Hermione stopped suddenly and turned to face me. "Uh—I'm…" she stammered. "Going to… the library."
"At midnight?" I contradicted her. "Dressed like that?"
Hermione looked down at her clothes and straight back at me. "Okay, fine, I'm not going to the library."
"I know that. Did anyone ever tell you that you're a pretty bad liar?"
"Yes."
"Where are you really going?"
"I'm going to see…"
"Malfoy?"
Hermione nodded. She and Malfoy had been secretly dating for a few months. Hermione only told Luna and I.
"Make sure to be back in two hours. And don't have too much fun." I told her sternly.
"Yes, mother." Hermione rolled her eyes and walked out of the common room as I slouched back in my chair. There was no use trying to do my homework. There was only one thought in my head, and that was Harry Potter.
THIRD YEAR
"Hey, Hermione, you can go with me," Ron said in the common room that afternoon.
"I'm already going with someone, Ronald," Hermione replied. I knew who that someone was. Draco Malfoy. Hermione was still dating him and no one knew. But I guessed they were going to show people. Because there was no way they could go to the dance together without people knowing.
"Really?" Ron said disbelievingly. "Who?"
"You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?" Hermione answered mysteriously. She winked at me and I smiled.
"Fine, but Ginny, you can go with Harry," Ron suggested. My heart stopped.
"Do you want to go with me, Gin?" Harry's soft, careful voice said. Of course, I wanted to go with him! But I had thought that he would never ask me. So I had said yes to Neville Longbottom. He and I were going to go to the Yule Ball as friends, but I wanted to go with Harry to the Yule Ball. Maybe as more than friends.
"I—uh…" I started. Hermione gave me a look that said 'Why aren't you saying yes?' "I'm already going with someone too…" I finished. Hermione then looked at me weirdly.
"Why didn't you tell me?" she whispered. I shrugged helplessly and faced back to Harry. He looked sad. I was kind of happy to see that. Not happy that he was sad, happy that he was sad he wasn't going with me. Maybe he did like me. I was hopeful, but there was nothing I could do at that moment.
"Ginny! I thought I told you that Harry was bound to ask you! Why did you say yes to Neville?" Hermione cried that night when the common room had been deserted.
"Because… I thought Harry wasn't going to ask me. And besides, no one was going to ask Neville, and I felt bad for him." I replied. It was the truth, and Hermione knew that.
"Right. But if you like Harry, you should tell him."
"I can't!" I confessed. "Every time I see him, I choke up and can't talk. And I'm scared he doesn't like me in that way."
"Ginny, he does. I can tell."
"I don't know. I'm going to go to bed." I got up and started to walk upstairs.
"Good night," Hermione called uncertainly from behind me.
The day of the Yule Ball came a little too quickly. Before I knew it, Hermione, Luna, and I were in Hermione's dorm room, getting ready.
Luna was wearing a purple/grey-ish kind of dress, black leggings, and golden shoes. Her hair was pulled back with a clip at the back and she had on earrings that looked like stars.
Hermione was wearing a turquoise ruffled dress, with small little sleeves. She had a bow around her waist. Her shoes were blue and black heels (the heels were only about an inch). Hermione managed to tame her hair and had it in a pretty ponytail.
My dress had a pink top with green sort of shoulder blades. The bottom was green and flowed nicely. I had a choker on my neck that was also green, with a pink pendant. My red hair was pulled back and stuck in place with a clip.
"I think we're ready to go," Hermione said.
"Who are you going with Luna?" I asked as we walked out.
"Seamus Finnigan," Luna replied.
The Yule Ball was torture. I saw Harry and Parvati Patil dancing on the dance floor and I felt a pang of jealousy. Eventually, Harry went to sit down. I thought about going over there and asking him to dance, but I didn't want to be rude to Neville.
FOURTH YEAR
Hermione, Harry, and Ron were organizing a group to properly learn DADA. The teacher who was supposed to be teaching us was terrible. Dolores Umbridge. She had us learning the theory and we weren't even allowed to take our wands out.
"Alright, so you know why you're all here." Hermione started once everyone had gotten into the Hog's Head in Diagon Alley. "We are starting a group to learn proper defense against the dark arts. And Harry here is going to teach us." I noticed that Cho Chang was looking at Harry and when he saw, he blushed. It really got me angry, but I guess it was my own fault for not telling him that I liked him.
"Where are we going to do it?" someone asked from behind me. "We need to do it somewhere secret, right?"
"Yes." Hermione replied, "I can't tell you all right now. But if you do want to join, please sign your name on this sheet of paper. It has a jinx on it so I will know if anyone snitches." Everyone signed their names and we were all given what looked like a galleon.
"Why are you giving us money?" Fred asked.
"It's not really money. It's charmed. You see, there are numbers across the edge." Hermione traced her finger over the part she was talking about. "If Harry changes it on his, it will change on all of ours. That will be the time we'll meet."
"Woah." a Ravenclaw named Terry Boot exclaimed. "How come you're not in Ravenclaw, with your smarts?"
Hermione merely blushed and said, "Well, the Sorting Hat almost put me in Ravenclaw, but decided on Gryffindor the last second."
A few weeks later, Harry was teaching us the Patronus charm. We had been practicing many different hexes and counter-hexes over the past weeks in the Room of Requirement. It was the only safe place we could go without anyone else knowing. The name of our organization was DA, standing for Dumbledore's Army. We thought that that was the Ministry's worst fear (that's where Dolores Umbridge was from), so it was fun to do that.
"The incantation is Expecto Patronum," Harry explained. "You have to remember to think of a happy memory. Otherwise, it's not going to work. Also, keep in mind that it will be much harder if there are real Dementors around. We'll get a boggart later to practice on." He didn't explain how the boggart would turn into a Dementor, but I figure that at least one person in the room was afraid of them.
I tried to think of a happy memory. It was much harder than I thought it was going to be. I thought of the time Hermione, Luna, and I were walking in the moonlight, just talking and laughing. I felt safe and loved at that time.
"Expecto Patronum!" I said. A silvery wisp came out of my wand and then disappeared.
"Very good, Ginny." Harry clapped, coming over to me. "Much better than I did my first time."
I blushed and turned away from him. I then focused on what he just said, shouted the incantation, and a majestical, silvery horse burst out of my wand and pranced around. The whole room started applauding. I felt really proud of myself, and in that moment, I realized, Harry was the happiest memory I could get.
FIFTH YEAR
Slughorn had invited me to another one of his parties. The only reason I was going to those was that Harry and Hermione were. I was getting late to the Christmas party. I walked in and instantly saw him. Harry Potter. The only free seat was to his left, Hermione sat at the seat right next to the empty one. She hadn't sat next to Harry, and I thought I knew why. As I walked to the seat, I practically glared at Hermione. She just smiled.
"Why didn't you sit next to Harry?" I hissed when I sat on the blue leather.
"Oh, you know. Reasons." Hermione replied.
We had won the Quidditch game, but Harry had been doing 'remedial potions' with Snape. Hermione, Ron, and I all knew that was a lie. Harry had been going to Snape for Occlumency lessons.
Harry walked into the common room, and, without thinking, I ran up to him and hugged him while saying, "We won!"
Two seconds later, I felt his warm lips on mine and the rest of the world disappeared. It was just him and I, nothing else. Could this really be happening?! Harry Potter was kissing me.
A few days later, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and I were all in the Gryffindor common room. Harry was sitting on a chair and I was sitting at his feet, leaning back on his legs.
"Some girls in class were asking me if you really had a Hippogriff tattoo on your chest," I told Harry.
"And what did you tell them?" he asked.
"I told them it was a Hungarian Horntail. Much more macho."
"Thanks."
"And what did you tell them I had?" Ron asked from the couch across from us.
"A Pygmy Puff, but I didn't say where," I replied mischievously. Hermione and Harry burst into laughter and Ron just glared at me.
I felt that I had finally found the happiness I was looking for.
SIXTH YEAR
Harry, Hermione, and Ron didn't come back to school that year, they were off doing something Dumbledore had told them to do. Hermione and I both had matching necklaces that were charmed kind of like the Galleons. (A/N: I got this idea from 'Truth, Lies, and Storytelling' by BreathOfThePhoenix, you should read it if you haven't already, it's amazing.) If we tapped them with our wand, the message we were thinking about would appear. If we got a message from the other person, the necklace would grow a little hot and we would know. It was how we were communicating, but we didn't tell anyone else.
Death Eaters had taken over the school. Luna, Neville, and I all started the DA again. We wanted people to know that we would keep fighting. Lots of people did join. The three of us were the heads, and at one point, we tried to steal the Gryffindor sword from the Headmaster's office. It didn't work, but at least we tried.
Neville had gotten detention so many times that he had to spend a lot of time in the Room of Requirement. He was practically living there. Lots of other people joined him later. Seamus Finnegan, Dean Thomas, Lavender Brown, the Patil twins, Terry Boot, Ernie Macmillan, and many others.
I was worried about Harry. He was Undesirable No. 1. Hermione was Undesirable No. 2, for she's a muggle-born.
I knew they had taken the Marauder's map with them. They could see the whole school and the people in them. They couldn't see the ROR though.
While I was trying to steal the sword, I kept wondering, Is Harry looking at me right now?
I hoped so, I missed him more than I could say.
A few months later (early November), Hermione wrote something that got me super worried
Ron's gone. He left us.
What?! Why?!
I don't know. Just stay calm, we'll find him.
I know you will.
It was true, I knew Harry and Hermione would not rest until they found him.
Harry, Hermione, and Ron were back. It was mid-May and most of the DA were in the ROR practicing spells. They came with Neville out of the portrait. As I saw Harry's jet black hair and brilliant green eyes, the rest of the world was forgotten. I wanted to run up to him, but I knew I couldn't. He had broken up with me at Dumbledore's funeral the year before, but he did it for my 'protection'.
"Ron!" I heard someone scream from behind me. It was Lavender Brown. She and Ron had been dating before the trio had left. Ron ran up to Lavender and pulled her in a big hug. Hermione was looking around at everyone in the room, and as I looked at Harry, I saw he was looking at me. I smiled at him bigger than I had smiled in months. They were finally here.
"You stay in here, Ginny! I can't have you running out there when there's a war happening!" Harry yelled.
"But I want to fight!" I complained. I knew I wasn't of age yet, but I was probably more capable than plenty of people much older than me.
"Ginny…" Luna's soft voice whispered behind me. "We have to stay here. We can go out later, okay?"
It was not okay, but I sighed and said, "Fine." anyway.
A few hours later, I was out of the ROR. Luna had tried to stop me, but I couldn't take it anymore, I ran outside and started to fight. I randomly hexed Death Eaters anywhere I could see them.
Suddenly, there was a sound, a voice it sounded like. It came from outside. "The war is over!"
The war was over? It didn't sound like Harry's voice. Or Hermione. Or Ron. Or anyone else that was on the light side. It sounded like Voldemort.
The only way the war could be over was that either Harry or Voldemort had been killed. So if that was Voldemort, then… no.
I raced outside with my family, Hermione, and many other people from the light side.
There, lying limp in Hagrid's arms was Harry Potter.
# # #
I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. Harry couldn't be dead, he just couldn't.
"Ginny…" Hermione's voice was calling softly. I could barely hear her, I wasn't paying attention to anything else. My eyes started to fill with hot tears of sadness.
"Gin, I need you to be strong, okay?" Hermione said once more, "We're all here for you."
I turned my head. My whole family was standing there, looking at me. I knew they were there for me, but…
Then there was the movement from the front. Harry's body was gone. I searched frantically, then it dawned on me. The only way the body could have disappeared was either someone had cast a Disillusionment Charm on him, covered him with his invisibility cloak, or… he was alive! I sincerely hoped it was the last one.
Harry was alive! He and Voldemort faced each other in the Great Hall. It almost seemed like they were having a civilized conversation. But of course, they weren't. They were enemies. And one of them was about to take their final breath.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Expelliarmus!"
The red and green smashed into each other, and then Voldemort fell in a heap on the ground. The war was over, and we had won.
LATER
Three years after that, Harry and I got married. Two years later, we got our first kid named James Sirius Potter. In two more years, I had Albus Severus Potter. And two years after, Lily Luna Potter came along. We were one big happy family. It was like a dream come true.
