A/N: This was inspired by Raphael Havok Blake's WWE: Immortality, a fanfic revolving around the mobile app WWE Immortals. However, where he is writing backstories for each of the characters in the game, I'm striving to flesh out a full story since one isn't really given- other than the brief Prologue Scene featuring Bray Wyatt, Triple H and Stephanie. Do keep in mind that any origins, should I go into them, will not match up with any found in WWE: Immortality.
When thinking up what roles each character would play, I came up with a dilemma, of sorts. Who would be my hero? Going through all of the different superstars and their multiple alter-egos, it came down to John Cena and Daniel Bryan, with Triple H being the stories' main antagonist.
In the end, John Cena was the logical choice. But don't fret, members of the "Yes Movement", Daniel Bryan will have his day as well.
This is simply a teaser chapter, to see if this idea is actually worth pursuing as its own fic. Needless to say, it will be a long time coming and I will probably post other snippets of this new universe whether I pursue this as an actual fic or not.
Chapter One: John Cena
"ke-up!"
"Wake-up!"
"John, we have to get moving!" shouted a frantic female voice.
John Cena couldn't figure out what was going on- his head felt like it had taken one too many chair shots. The last thing he remembered was leading a group of Superstars to try and stop The Authority and Bray Wyatt from using the lantern, fighting the Big Show right alongside Dolph Ziggler when there was a sudden flash of white light that seemed to engulf everything.
"John, we have to hurry," said the voice once more, growing more frantic.
"What's going on?" he asked groggily.
"No time!" the voice snapped.
"Trish!?" Cena asked in confusion.
"C'mon!" Trish admonished.
He didn't understand why she was there. For one, she hadn't even been present when the melee between the WWE Army and the Authority's thugs broke out. He also didn't know why she was dressed like Emma Frost from the X-Men. Still, he acquiesced to her demands only to stop when he heard a roar behind them. It was then he took stock of his surroundings. They appeared to be in a dark cave that was illuminated by fire. He wasn't sure how he'd missed it before, but now that he noticed it, the acrid smell of smoke and brimstone filled his nostrils and made him want to choke.
"Cena…" growled a nearby voice. It nearly looked and sounded like Kane- not the Authority lackey he'd become, but the feared demon he once was. Its body was heavily muscled and it had craggy protrusions sticking out of its hide, its voice brimming with power, seemingly dual harmonized with another. "BURN!"
Suddenly, the demon's hands burst into flame and it lobbed a fireball at him. Frozen in shock, Cena didn't bother too move out of the way. Fortunately, Trish was not shocked by the display and thus was left free to act, throwing up a translucent white shield, on which the fireball dissipated.
John looked at Trish in shock.
"How…!"
"No time! We have to leave, NOW!" Trish shouted at him frantically. "Or else all will be lost!"
As she said this, she brought her hands roughly six inches apart, a star-like light appearing between them, with others forming in midair and coalescing with it. She then flung the star-like mass of energy at the demon who bore Kane's visage, however it raised its hands in the air and then brought them down, a wall of fire coming between the demon and the White Witch and her charge. Using the distraction, she grabbed Cena and began pulling him further into the cavern, away from the demon. John, thankfully got the hint, though he still had no clue as to what was going on.
She led him through the twisting caverns with surprising ease, as if she'd had intimate knowledge of the layout. More and more, the further they ran, were various questions running though John Cena's mind.
'What's going on here?' he asked himself. 'I need answers and soon!'
It wasn't long until she led him to a secluded dais with strange markings on it. Whispering words he couldn't understand, Trish wave her hands in complex gestures, her eyes glowing white with raw power that he could almost feel within the very air he breathed, as foul smelling as it was. Another white star-like light appeared, lightning shooting from it. With one last gesture, there was a bright flash and a portal opened up.
"How are you doing this!?" Cena asked.
"No time," Trish told him. "Once we are safe, I will answer all of your questions, but for now just trust me!"
Seeing no other choice, especially since he could hear the demon not far behind them, he steeled his resolve and jumped through the portal.
The experience was like nothing he'd felt before. He was completely oblivious to his surroundings as he dropped to his hands and knees, dry-heaving, struggling not to throw up on the pristine white marble floor. He was vaguely aware of Trish standing behind him until she kneeled next to him.
"I apologize, General, I should have warned you that portal travel would take getting used to," Trish apologized.
"It's… It's okay…" Cena heaved. "What's going on, Trish? Where are we?"
"Those are questions that are easily answered, but the answers are not easily believed," Trish told him. "You are in my home, the Crystalline Tower, the nexus point of all magic that is good and holy and though I am 'Trish' I am not the one you know. I am Patricia Stratigias, The White Witch. The Dark Lantern was a true artifact of old magic, a dimensional key. How Bray Wyatt and The Authority learned of it, let alone gained possession of it, remains a mystery to me."
"You really expect me to believe all that!?" Cena asked incredulously.
"Can you not see the truth for yourself?" Trish asked as she spread her arms wide. "Despite your best efforts, and those of the WWE Special Forces, The Authority and Bray Wyatt were still able to use the lantern's powers. It is both problematic and fortuitous that Triple H betrayed Wyatt whilst he was channeling the power of the lantern."
"Why is that?" Cena inquired.
"If used properly, Wyatt and the Authority could have rewritten reality as they saw fit, The Authority's betrayal, however, caused the already chaotic magic to react violently- giving us a chance to fight against the coming tide of darkness," Trish informed him. "Unfortunately, the dark magic of the lantern has begun to degrade the barriers between dimensions- fracturing reality as we know it- merging some worlds, while destroying others."
"So what do we do?" Cena asked her, looking to her for guidance. After all, she seemed to have all the answers.
"I… I am not sure…" Trish said hesitantly. "It was for that purpose that I retrieved you from that demon dimension. As the White Witch, I am a protector of good magic. However, magic is in a state of flux, too much of it is wild and untamed- my powers are no longer what they once were."
"Why me?" Cena inquired.
"Though changed by the magic of the lantern, you are one of the very few who retain knowledge of Earth Prime. It is my hope that your knowledge of the first world, combine with the innate skills of soldier, with whom you have merged, will be enough to overcome the chaos and act as my champion."
"No pressure, huh," Cena commented.
"You must beware," the White Witch warned the soldier. "The Dark Sorceress is also aware of the anomalies plaguing our worlds. Like myself, it is likely she has already chosen a champion, you must move with caution and haste."
"Sounds like we're gonna need a bit more help," Cena told her. "Can you locate any of my friends?"
Trish closed her eyes for a moment. When she opened them, she frowned in sadness. "I'm afraid I cannot. My powers are unable to pinpoint any of your former allies."
"Former allies?" Cena asked in concern.
"While there are, no doubt, others who also remember Earth Prime, most will not. They can no longer be trusted as they once were," Trish informed him. "Many of those who were once your former allies might be again, others may choose another side. Others still, once foes, may be more inclined to ally themselves to our cause."
"Hopefully we can put together a decent team before the Dark Sorceress even knows what hits her," Cena commented.
"I know of two possible recruits," Trish informed him. "Twins of great magical power, separated at a young age so that they might better use their powers in conjunction with one another. Once resides at the Solar Citadel, while the other resides at the Ice Palace. I have watched over the Ice Witch for many years. Though she has learned in darkness, she has a kind heart. I suggest recruiting her to our cause before the Dark Sorceress and her ilk sway her to our cause."
"What about the other one?" Cena asked.
"The Pyromancer has learned and flourished in the light. Her fiery spirit will be a great asset to us in the coming battles," Trish stated. "Her heart is strong, her will indomitable. No doubt she will join us if we arrive with her sister in tow."
Cena wasn't so sure, but decided to give the White Witch the benefit of the doubt- for now.
"Send me to the Ice Palace and I'll get it done," Cena told Trish.
"Very well, I shall open the portal," Trish said. When Cena groaned she reassured him. "Between having experienced this form of travel before, and having more time to stabilize the portal, this trip should be much smoother and pleasant."
Cena wasn't sure he could believe this either, but opted not to argue. "Whatever you say."
"General," Trish addressed Cena. "Take this trinket," she handed him a necklace with a small diamond pendant. "Rub the stone and I shall open a portal so that you may return. Do keep in mind, however, that there are many locations where I will be unable to open any portals, Fortunately, I should still be able to communicate with you through the stone's power."
"You're not coming with?" Cena asked concernedly.
"I cannot. The Ice Palace lies within the realm of darkness- the domain of the Dark Sorceress. My presence would alert our enemies to our plans. You, as a Champion, however, can move relatively undetected through her realm with little impunity," The White Witch told him. "I also cannot leave the tower for too long with magic being in its state of chaos. I am at the height of my power so long as I remain in the tower. Outside these walls, however, and I will be a liability to your quest."
"You came and got me," Cena pointed out.
"A necessary risk- one that's left me drained of my powers more than I'd've liked," The White Witch explained.
"Fair enough," Cena sighed. "Send me through."
Trish opened up another portal, sending Cena into the unknown.
