Damon was ready. He was going to do it? No. Yes. He pushed his thoughts aside and reached for her.

DING! BONG! DING!

The startling sound of the bell broke him out of his trance and all that was left was his wife. His terrified wife. Getting some distance from her he quickly went back to where he was sitting and continued to row to the city.

She could have died. He would have killed her. He glanced a peak and quickly looked away as he saw how she was retreating to herself. She was hugging her knees to her chest. Her head down crying. He made his wife cry. He hurt her.

His eyes focused on the wooden board in front of him instead as he rowed his mind struggling to understand what would have happened if the bell didn't knock some sense into him.

'He is going to kill me. He he is going to kill me.'

She couldn't understand what was going on. What she did wrong! She had always been good to him. Always! Maybe they weren't how they were in the beginning, but did that really lead to him wanting to get rid of her from his life permanently.

'He is going to kill me.'

He doesn't want me. He wants to get rid of me!

The tears kept falling like a stream rolling down her cheeks. She could taste the saltiness of them. Had already started sniffling. She swallowed and wiped at her eyes. Why did he hate her?

'He is going to kill me. He wanted to dr-drown me!'

She felt the boat come to a stop and looked up noticing how they had reached land and he was tying the boat to a large rock so it wouldn't drift off.

'He wants to kill me.'

She sees as he looks at her his arm reaching out to help her get of the boat but her fear mistakes it for another attempt at wanting to hurt her. She won't let him. If he doesn't want her fine!

She got up and off the boat and ran.

Damon stopped and saw as Caroline flinched away from him and was now running. She was leaving him. She had to catch her.

"Caroline!" He yells and gives chase after her. He watches as she trips but quickly gets to her feet and rushes to catch up to her.

"Stop!" He pleads, but he knows she won't. It was only by luck that she managed to trip over a root that he was able to catch up and pull her to him.

"Don't be afraid of me!"

Caroline screams and pushes him harshly away from her before getting up and running. There was a train nearby and she could hear it coming. Could see the tracks. She had to get on that train.

She sees the train and yells waving her arms to catch the conductor's attention. The train slows down, and she quickly jumps on board taking the first sit available.

Then she sees him.

Damon had just made it as the train started to move and jumps on grabbing the rail and knocking to have one of the passengers open the door for him. The conductor slows down and opens the door.

"Cutting it a little close their pal." The conductor said shaking him head pointing him to take a seat as he goes back to the front of the train.

Damon turns to Caroline but stays standing one hand on the rail. He catches her eyes and tries to convey his apology, his regret, through his eyes. She is quiet her mind running a mile a minute shifting from sorry for herself to angry at him.

'He was going to kill me! He wanted to get rid of me. I stood by him and he was just going to throw me away like I was nothing.'

She stews for a bit, anger and sorrow fighting it out. She would probably yell at him, but she couldn't. He didn't deserve it. He didn't care so why should she. She just needed to get away. She'll find some one to take her back home. She'll get her things and leave. If that's what he wanted she would grab her things, grab Bonnie and Tyler and go. She could probably stay with Stefan tonight at his guest house on the property. Or does he want her gone too? No, she'll go to Lexi. She always trusted her friend and she always said if she needed anything, she was welcome. Yes, she would go to Lexi's.

She turns to look out the window making sure to avoid his gaze as the train starts entering The City streets. The next stop would be coming up.

Damon sighs. It's all his fault.

"Why do you hurt her?"

"I've never hurt her."

"You have. She's here taking care of you. Loving you, Lord only knows why, taking care of your child… and you do this. You go behind her back. You bastard."

Stefan was right, she didn't deserve the way he treated her. He betrayed her in the worst way and then he goes and does this. He needed to explain. Needed to make her understand that he didn't mean it!

'But I did. I meant it. I was going to go through with it.'

Well then, he would just have to get her to understand that everything was going to be fine. He wouldn't hurt… kill her. He would not lay a hand on her in that way ever. She had to know that she could trust him. It was just a blip. Yes, a blip in judgement and once he told her it will be fine. It would be fine. Caroline didn't hold grudges. She wasn't capable. Especially with him. She always forgave him.

'She has always forgiven him, and he always hurts her. She shouldn't have to keep forgiving you.' A voice sounding suspiciously like Stefan said in his head.

He pushed it aside as the train came to a stop. Once he gets her forgiveness, he'll make it up to her. He'll make sure that he will never hurt her again.

Damon steps off the train as the door opens and turn to her extending his hand out begging her to take it and come back to him.

"Don't be afraid of me!" He repeats, "Please Caroline."

Caroline shakes her head her body still trembling slightly where from the shock or crying or anger she didn't know. She just ran past him not caring that she was running to oncoming traffic as she dogged the automobiles on the road. Tears escaping her again as she heard his footsteps following her. She flinches when she feels his arms around her as he starts quickly leading her to the sidewalk.

"Blondie?"

He could feel her shaking as he got on the sidewalk and crushed her against him standing still as people passed them. She refused to look at him.

They had to get out of here off the road. He starts looking around and spots a restaurant. He starts moving towards it half guiding half dragging as she was struggling against him.

They enter the restaurant he nods and smiles the last thing he needs is for them to ask if they're okay. He finds a small four-person table in the back and pulls out her chair for her.

"Caroline? I won't hurt you. I promise."

She looks away and he reaches for her and she takes a step back out of reach.

"Please. Just sit."

Caroline looked at the chair then at him. She wasn't just going to do what he told her to. He had no right! Who does he think he is throwing her away one minute than dragging her along and forcing her to this situation? Without thinking her hand swung, slapping him across the face.

Damon reached for his cheek frowning and looking around making sure no one was looking. There was a couple in the table near the entrance, but they were more focused on each other than their surroundings.

"I deserve that."

She just glares at him. Her snide 'You think?' obvious on her face. As she takes a seat. He won't hurt her in a restaurant. Even if no one was paying attention he was smart enough to know not to commit crimes in front of witnesses. No, he would just take them to the middle of nowhere and try to drown them.

He takes a seat next to her instead of across. He could see her shaking her face was furious. Her eyes red and puffy from crying a with a watery glint as if she was still trying to hold back tears from rushing out all over again.

"Hello there. I'm Vicky I'll be your server for today."

He turns to look at waiter. He didn't even hear her coming. "Hi just some water for now."

"Alright. We also have some bread rolls I'll bring them over. Here are your menus if you need anything just call."

"Thank you, darling." He said with a smile and then flinched as he heard Caroline scoff beside him. He wasn't saying it as a flirtation. He doubted Caroline would believe him. The waitress gave him a look that said he should probably start groveling now and left to get them the breadbasket.

The pair stayed quiet. Caroline not having anything she wanted to say. She knew if she tried, she would start crying again. Damon was just waiting until the waitress was out of hearing range as he already saw her returning with a small basket filled with the rolls and little container of cinnamon butter to dip them in.

Vicky places the basket along with two glasses and fills them with the pitcher before telling them to call her when they were ready to order.

"Talk to me. You can yell or slap me again just please don't do this. Don't give up on us!"

A small sob escaped hear. She has never given up on them, it has always been him. Always. He was the one who gave up when he wanted to kill her! He was the one who stopped caring first. He was the one who started distancing himself. Gosh! She was so stupid. She had known since the beginning. It started a few weeks ago, at first, she pushed it aside but then it kept happening. He kept leaving and coming back late at night. Or he would be there when she fell asleep and then when she reached for him in the middle of the night he wasn't there. She would wait for him for hours only for him to come back in the morning. She never questioned him, but she knew. She knew what he was doing. He cheated on her. So many times. And she just let him.

The tears were spilling again one after another. Another sob escaped her, and she brought her head down on the table shielding her face from him.

"Don't cry. Please. Please Caroline. I won't hurt you. It was a mistake okay. I can't kill you; you know that."

'I can't kill you.' Another sob came out. He can't kill her, but he had wanted to.

Sighing Damon looked at bread rolls and picked one up. Maybe she was hungry. She waved the bread, a white flag, in front of her smiling.

She stops for a moment reaching for it but then stops and starts crying again.

Breathe Caroline. Just breathe. In. Out. In. Out.

Calming herself she wiped at her tears. She couldn't be here. She stood and started making her way out. Still wiping at the stray tear that escaped her as she left.

Damon sighed following her. He put his hand on her back trying to calm her, but she kept flinching like a startled horse. Looking ahead he saw an old couple selling flowers and rushes over swiping a bouquet from the stand and taking them to her.

Caroline looks at the flowers then looks at him. She can feel the sting of his betrayal and flowers won't fix how she is feeling. Damon sighs noticing and reaches for her hands placing the flowers in them gently and looking into her eyes. "Please talk to me."

Caroline takes another look at the flowers and hugs them to her chest.

'Why won't she just stop crying!'

She scolded herself.

Damon frowned and turned to the couple who was looking at him probably wondering if he was actually going to pay for the flowers or not. He sighed and walked over pulling out his wallet from his suit pocket and taking out the cash and handing it to the man.

"Are you two alright?" The woman asks sounding concerned.

He smiles sadly at them, "No. We're not. Thank you for the flowers."

The woman smiles back in sympathy as her husband puts an arm around her.

"Don't give up," the man told him, "If you love her, it will work out. If it could for Amara and me, it will work for you and your love." Damon didn't know what to say to that, but he just nodded politely. There was something about the man's eyes that seemed familiar. He shook it off and went back to the blonde wrapping an arm around her in a hug and sighed at her reaction.

'Six. She has flinched six times in his arms.'

He decides to guide her to an alley between two buildings and she starts trembling. He caresses her hands till she looks up to gaze into his eyes.

"I swear to you I won't hurt you. Please just give me a chance. One more chance. I know. Okay I don't deserve it after what happened in the water, but. I didn't go through with it. Shouldn't that count for something."

That was it. She pushed him away from her watching as winced when his body slammed against the wall.

"You want me to talk fine! I hate you!"

He looked at her, "You don't mean that."

"You wanted to kill me. You wanted to ge-get rid of me."

"But I didn't!"

"O my gosh! Do you hear yourself. You wanted to get rid of me. You were going to throw me overboard and watch me drown." "I- ""No. Don't lie to me. How could you. I love you! I fucking love you and you wanted me to die! Why? Why?" She starts shaking tears falling down and she wipes at the snot and tears with her dress not caring of how horrible that she probably looks.

Damon reaches into his breast pocket and hands her a handkerchief which takes and blows her nose into. He didn't know what to say to her.

"Do you not love me anymore? Why do you hate me so much?"

"I don't hate you."

"But you don't love, me."

"I do. I still do. Please I made a mistake. One mistake and I promise you I will never do it again. I will never lay a hand on you or hurt you. I swear please."

SLAP!

"Don't LIE to me! I don't deserve this! If you want- If you wanted me gone. If you wanted to leave me. A divorce whatever. You could have told me! But don't worry once we get home, I'll leave. That's what you want right. Well fine. I'll leave and this way you don't have to get your hands dirty."

"Please. Don't leave. I don't want that I swear. I want you. I want to be with you."

"Then why! Tell me why would you do this? What did I do?"

Damon took a breath he couldn't tell her. What would he say? 'Oh, Caroline I just wanted to leave you and go live with my mistress in the city.' Gosh why did he ever listen to that woman.

"Well?"

"Elena. I did it for her. I shouldn't have, but she lured me in. She tricked me she- "

"Elena?" She spoke softly tears falling down her face. "The woman staying at the bed and breakfast. It was her."

"I am so sorry."

"How many times?"

"Caroline, you don't really want to know."

"You cheated on me. Oh gosh I knew it. I didn't want to admit, but I knew. Do you love her. Of course, you do. She's beautiful… You were going to kill me to be with her."

"Yes."

Caroline stayed quiet. He admitted it he loved Elena, loved another woman enough to cheat and lie and kill for her.

"Yes, I cheated. And I was going to leave with her. But I didn't. I don't love her. I thought I did, but I don't she. Elena was just. She was just there okay."

"I was there too."

"You were always working and focusing on the farm and the baby. You didn't have time for me- "

SLAP!

"I would have done anything for you. Everything. I was working to save our farm. Your family's farm. I was raising OUR baby. I was busy, but I was always there for you! You could have talked to me! So, don't, don't you dare make me the bad guy."

Holding his jaw, he nodded, "You're right. I should have talked to you. I should have never cheated on you. And I am so so so sorry I didn't. I am an idiot okay. You know that. I am stupid and I'm impulsive, but you know what? I am also in love with you."

SLAP!

"Gosh Caroline, will you stop hitting me woman!"

"You don't love me. You don't know what love is. If you did you would have never hurt me."

"Give me one more chance. Give me the rest of today. Let me make it up to you. Please."

"You can never make this up to me."

"No, that's not true, because I won't give up. I will try forever to get you to trust me again. To believe me just please give me today to show you."

"What's the point. I don't believe you. I don't anymore. I really want to, but I don't trust you. I don't believe you love me. And I already made up my mind. Once we get home, I'm getting my things. You wanted to get rid of me."

"I don't want you to leave me."

"I'm going to take Bonnie and I'm going to go stay with Matt and Lexi. You will still be able to see her. I'm not going to take her away from-Oh god!" She cried, "You were going to kill me. You were going to take me away from my daughter!"

"But I didn't."

"But you wanted to. Guess you are getting what you wished for after all. Go be with Elena."

"I don't want Elena! I just want you. Please Blondie. Give me one day. If I can make you happy for one moment today stay. If you can still find it in yourself to love me. Stay. If I can't make you happy. If you can't look past this then, I'll let you go."

Caroline stayed quiet. Of course, she still loved him. You don't fall out of love with a person in a couple of hours. But she can't stay with him. She'll just get through today. Then she will tell him to let her go. She might go back to him one day, but she needed time.

"Okay. You get me for the rest of today. Then you let me go."

Damon looks like he wants to object, but nods. He could win her back he knew he could.

DING! BONG! DING BONG!

They hear the bells and look across the street at the church seeing a bride and groom entering. He let out a smile. A wedding, Caroline loved weddings.

He nods over to the church and offers her his arm. She gulps and reluctantly takes it.

A/N

Hi everyone, so this story isn't really picking up, but to be honest I love writing this fic so I hope for the few of ya'll actually reading this it was good for ya'll too.

So about this chapter. It went waaaaaaaaaaaaay off point from what I was going to do. I was gonna follow the film, but I hated how the couple never talked about what happened or the other woman they just flew past the grovelling and went straight to the woo-ing. So this split off from canon, but I still love the film and I am kinda rooting for Damon even though I really hate his guts for hurting Care. So we will see what happens cause tbh like I said I had a plan but this chapter just proves that I am willing to throw the plan out the window.

Okay also Damon is hurt obviously he wants Caroline, but he isn't hurt enough so I'm going to knock him down a peg or two then throw him down the well filled with vervain water and throw in flashback to why he married Caroline as well as maybe a brief bit of him meeting Elena (IDK bout this yet I want to keep this strictly Daroline. No more Delena! lol unless yall want whatever lol).

One last thing. Updates for this fic. I literally posted the story two days ago and I really want to keep writing and finish the story tonight but I have been procrastinating on my homework I have four articles to read for one assignment, a flipgrid post, a prospectus that I don't really know how to do, an essay, plus I need to watch more films for my film class so with all that said I prob won't post till next week maybe on Thursday probably earlier considering almos everything I mentioned is due on Sunday. So after I finish I'll keep writing and I'll post right after I'm done.

Anyways thats about it. Please let me know what you think and thank you all so much for your reviews and favorites/follows. Hopefully you'll stick around.

Till Next Time!
