(AU post-HTTYD 3) Here's my take on how Astrid and Stormfly reunited in the ending of THW. Mainly Stormstrid with background Haddock family interactions and a hint of Hiccstrid. I had this headcanon where in the ending of THW, the dragons of the OG Riders (Toothless, Stormfly, Hookfang, Barf and Belch, Meatlug, Grump, Skullcrusher, and Cloudjumper) return to New Berk for a visit just after Snoggletog.

My Good Girl

Hiccup and 4 y/o son Nuffink rode on Toothless during their expedition to find the entrance to the Hidden World, a 7 hour journey by ship from New Berk. The Night Fury approached the ship with caution, being a wild dragon for almost 10 years now. But nevertheless, he instantly recognized his rider's scent and signature outstretched hand.

Meanwhile, Astrid and her 8 y/o girl Zephyr stayed behind their ship to anchor it down. She and her husband have agreed that he'd first take their son, then Zephyr, and then all of them together. But there are two things she wished she could do after reuniting with the Night Fury: first is a romantic flight with just her and Hiccup and second, if a certain Deadly Nadder would show up.

"I hope you'll remember me, Stormfly." she muttered to herself.

Zephyr overheard her mother and went asking who she was pertaining to, even though she had a good idea on who it was. "Mom, is Stormfly gonna appear like Toothless did with Dad?"

Astrid had told her kids about her countless adventures with her Nadder, from their first meeting to their countless battles over at Dragon's Edge. Astrid turned back to the ship's cabin to collect some fish when she heard a thud from the bow. At first, she didn't flinch, thinking it's just her husband, son and Toothless returning from their flight.

"Oh, is it Zeph's turn no-" she turned around and instead of the Night Fury, she was greeted by a familiar blue and yellow Deadly Nadder. Her spines from her back to her tail are sticking out, ready to fire at will, but she only growled in caution. Zephyr froze in her spot, which is by the mast, as her mother inched closer to the wild parrot-like dragon.

"Hey girl." Astrid coaxed, hand reaching out to Stormfly's beak. "Remember me?"

The Nadder growled a bit, then turned her head to look at the outstretched hand. When she smelled that it's her former rider, Stormfly's pupils went wide and pressed her head against Astrid's hand. The latter, trying hard not to cry on the spot, gave her dragon a warm hug on her snout before scratching her chin, a Deadly Nadder's soft spot.

"I'm glad to see you too, my good girl!" Astrid choked, overjoyed that her dragon still remembers her. Stormfly squawked happily, running around in circles aboard the Haddock's ship, before turning her attention to Zephyr, who was in awe.

"It's okay. She remembers me!" her mother giggled, nuzzling her cheek against Stormfly's chin.

"She's not gonna hurt you, Mom?" Zephyr said nervously.

"Nope. She's a little spiky but she's not gonna hurt you." Just like Hiccup did earlier with Toothless, the blonde chieftess made her daughter raise her hand to gain the Nadder's trust. Stormfly smelled the foreign hand, but she turned her attention to Zephyr's eyes. She inherited her mother's sapphire orbs and Stormfly knew she saw a lot of her rider in the young girl. The Nadder pressed her beak against the younger Haddock's hand, and Astrid felt proud at that moment. Gods, if only we could still have you along with us.

"Here, put your other hand down here." she guided Zephyr's free hand to Stormfly's chin. The dragon purred in reaction to the touch and when Zephyr started scratching it, Stormfly loved it even more. She missed the feeling so much that she started licking Zephyr's face, covering her in Nadder slobber.

"Ugh! This doesn't wash out!" she cried. Astrid snorted, trying hard to contain her laughter. Like father, like daughter. she thought, recalling the times Hiccup got licked by Toothless whenever he's excited.

"Alright girl, what do you say we fly along with Toothless? For old times' sake?" the chieftess asked her dragon, to whom replied with an excited squawk. She lowered her wing to let her rider and Zephyr ride on her back before setting off. When they reached cruising altitude, Zephyr was having the time of her life.

"Momma, does she know a few tricks?" she beamed as the wind crashed through her face.

Astrid smiled, stroking her daughter's auburn braids. "Yes she does." She picks up her axe and made sure Stormfly catches the scent.

"Alright girl, you wanna play fetch?" The Nadder squawked excitedly at the sight of the axe.

Astrid threw the weapon out to the sea below and without warning, Stormfly went into a vertical dive, eyes and talons on the falling axe. Zephyr screamed in delight as the G-forces were getting her good. (the sensation is like riding a roller coaster on a steep downhill) Stormfly picked up the weapon using her beak before shooting skywards.

"Good girl! You really didn't change much." her rider commended, prompting a trill of squawks from her.

They circled around the caldera for a while, then they zipped past Toothless, the Light Fury and their 3 offspring. (to which Astrid called Night Lights). Just then, Zephyr heard a myriad of squawks and growls from behind and turned to see four smaller Nadders of various colors; this happened to be Stormfly's babies and they're about the size as adult Scuttleclaws. Another Nadder of her size also appeared on her right hand side, which Astrid could only assume to be Stormfly's mate.

"So this is what we've been missing on?!" Zephyr gasped at the wonderful sight of Nadders and Night/Light Furies flying. Her mother nodded, giggling like a teenage girl who just got asked out by her crush.

"Yes darling. But you also know why we had to let them go, right?"

"Because of the bad people who wanted to trap dragons?"

"Exactly" Astrid sighed at her reply.

Deep inside, she wanted the new generation of New Berk, especially their children, to experience what they've had in the 6 years where dragon and Viking become united. However, she also knew that by doing so would put their tribe at a high risk for dragon trappers once again. And with the rise of pirate ships lurking about the seas of the archipelago, who knows what untold damage they can potentially cause.

Returning to reality, Astrid commanded Stormfly to slow down a bit, matching Toothless' cruising speed, as she and her husband exchanged children: with Zephyr now riding her father's Night Fury and Nuffink aboard his mother's Nadder. Just like his older sister, Nuff loved the speed that Stormfly had to offer and Astrid couldn't picture a better scenario than this. She often dreamed of training her kids to become dragon riders, and boy did she get that one scratched off her bucket list.

When it came time to part ways again, Astrid and Hiccup guided their dragons back to the ship. Their kids were more than ecstatic with the experience, so were the dragons. As for the two elder Haddocks, it's another bittersweet moment for them; Hiccup was more composed now whereas Astrid was the one bawling her eyes out. Ten years ago, she'd never properly felt the pain of letting her beloved good girl go. Back then, she was the tough Astrid Hofferson who rarely cried over anything; now she's a 30 y/o Astrid Haddock, who was more open in showing her emotions.

"I..I'll see you soon, Stormfly." she sighed as her tears started to fall from her freckled cheeks.

Stormfly grunted sadly at leaving Astrid again but like her, she's also a mother, and she needs to take care of her hatchlings. Hiccup wrapped an arm around his wife's waist to comfort her.

The Haddocks bade their goodbyes to Toothless and Stormfly, as they flew up and below the caldera waterfall, into their safe haven. Hiccup hoisted the anchor and sails and set course back home; his wife clinging onto his arm with a dreamy look on her face. The full moon reflected against the calm seas they were sailing and that reminded Astrid of her moonlit flight with Hiccup back on the Edge. Ten years of marriage and two children later, their love for each other was as strong as when they first experienced it at 18 years old.

"You think we should visit them again, babe?" she asked lovingly.

"Perhaps we should. Let's bring the rest of the gang, and maybe they'll be greeted by their dragons too." Hiccup replied, before planting a kiss onto Astrid's lips. For now, this little expedition is their family's secret and only time would tell when they'll tell their friends about their reunion with their winged companions.

A/N: Here's a little question for y'all, if the Light Fury didn't show up and Toothless and Stormfly become mates, what would their hybrid offspring look like and how would they be called? I personally think Deathly Fury sounds sick, and would probably look like a Nadder but with Night Fury dorsal fins and tail.
