A/N:This was a nice little bit of X-Over that I have been itching to do for years when I first saw Stargate: Atlantis years ago. Everybody and their grandmother injects Harry in some way onto SG-1, both the show and the team. Very few, if any, actually have Harry on Atlantis and even fewer have him as himself as I have seen ones where he is either John Sheppard or Rodney McKay. If he is not one or the other, some magical malady has accidentally sent him to Atlantis and he's not part of the team. This was my attempt at doing something different. Since Harry is more action oriented than Elizabeth Weir, many things would have been much different with Harry at the helm. For one, he would not have wanted to hesitate going after their people in an effort not to start hostilities with the Wraith. Not saying things would be better or worse, per say, but they would be different.
As for pairings... Widely undecided, though many of the canon pairings would have remained the same, like Rodney McKay/Jennifer Keller. They were a favorite of mine. As for Harry... I was leaning towards pairing him off with Dr. Kate Heightmeyer. But unfortunately, I haven't had the urge or inspiration to carry this on. While I wouldn't call this a dead idea just yet, it's definitely on hold indefinitely.
Chapter One: Atlantis Rising, pt. 1
Having settled into his hotel room for the day Harry Potter sighed in relief.
It was mostly over, except for a few formalities. Despite being a renowned diplomat and negotiator he hated politicians whose posturing more often than not, got in the way of actual progress for all parties involved. Still, everything had finally been resolved in record time and he was left with a content feeling of a job well done.
He doubted Elizabeth could have done a better job in the same time frame, though he envied her, as she got to sit in a bunker and play administrator to the most classified project on the planet since the Wizarding World separated itself from the Muggle World.
Just reading over the highlights astounded Harry, despite everything he'd experienced in the course of his life. He knew Hermione would definitely kill to get in on the action he was currently apart of, too bad he couldn't breathe a word of it to her. Harry would have to change that as much of her recent research would likely help the expedition- something that would likely be well within his power to do since he was a representative to both Great Britain and the Magical World as a whole, and there was little doubt he was going to be volun-told to be a big part in the formation of the International Oversight Advisory.
He'd already forwarded some of Hermione's notes on Atlantis and Merlin to Dr. Jackson knowing if anyone would be able to get anything out of it, he would. The man had acquired quite the reputation within certain circles of the classified world of cloak and dagger operations, especially with the Stargate Program being at the pinnacle of that particular pyramid.
As he had kicked off his shoes, loosened his tie and rolled up his sleeves, Harry relaxed into the chair provided to him in his suite as he perused the room service menu. He was considering several meal options when there was a knock at the door.
Sighing, Harry tossed the menu on the table as he went to see who was coming to see him. It was quite the surprise to him when he opened the door and saw Dr. Elizabeth Weir on the other side.
"Elizabeth," he said in shock.
"Hello, Harry, it's been a long time," she greeted.
Shaking his head he gestured for her and her companion to enter. "Sorry, it's been a long day. Politicians, you know…"
"Yes, I know the feeling. Harry, this is Dr. Daniel Jackson, he's the one who's made most of this possible," Dr. Weir introduced her companion.
Dr. Jackson blushed slightly at the praise while shaking Harry's hand. "I wouldn't go that far…"
Harry snorted. "YOU wouldn't, but others aren't so reserved about your accomplishments. George Hammond in particular speaks very highly of you. The only other person whose name I've heard thrown around as often as yours is Jack O'Neill's- and that's mostly due to the fact that he's the leader of SG-1 and has had the Alteran data repository downloaded into his brain- twice."
"Oh," Jackson looked surprised and a little uncomfortable that he was apparently that well known to those in Washington, especially a foreign diplomat.
"So, Elizabeth, Dr. Jackson, what brings you guys out of your Colorado bunker to see me?" Harry asked wanting to get to the point.
"The newly formed Department of Homeworld Security wants you to head up the Atlantis Expedition," Elizabeth answered.
It was Harry's turned to be shocked.
Last he'd heard the project was to be headed up by the woman offering him the job while the SGC would revert back to military control. "What's brought this on? Last I'd heard President Hayes was pushing for you to lead the expedition and with your short experience in the SGC; I figured you were a lock."
"There are some that are concerned with my rather vocal anti-military stance," Elizabeth replied. "They said that despite my experience with the SGC, I may not be able or willing to work smoothly with the military."
"That's a load of garbage," Harry replied in utter disgust. "Sounds like something someone like the Vice President would say."
Both Dr. Jackson and Elizabeth looked at Harry in shock, though Elizabeth's didn't nearly last as long as Jackson's.
"I've read up on most of the reports about the Stargate Program. Anyone with half a brain can read between the lines," he told them honestly. "There have been more than a few classified operations that I've been involved in that's required me to work with Kinsey and people like him. It's a shame that Dick is mixed in with him. Despite how he might seem, he really is just an honest bloke trying to do the right thing."
"Who?" asked Dr. Jackson confusedly.
"Mr. Woosley, Dr. Jackson," Dr. Weir clarified.
"Sorry, I forgot you're not actually one of us," Harry said with a smile. "Much like the military's upper ranks, we diplomat types know each other pretty well. From everything I've heard and read about you, you'd fit in pretty well- though you'd likely clash with the academic types, being a field man."
"I'm not sure I follow," Daniel replied with a frown.
"Dick and I are friends solely on the basis of mutual respect due to the fact that we rarely ever see eye to eye on anything. More often than not, we're on opposing sides of any conflict we've been called in to mediate or oversee," Harry explained, "People like Richard Woosley are 'by the book' type of people, who believe the rules are the 'be all, end all' of any situation and that each individual situation should be handled in the exact same cut and dry manner, with little to no room for improvision. Having been 'in the field', people like you and I both know that there are times when the rules hinder more than help and that sometimes it's necessary to bend the rules and do what needs to be done- consequences be damned. Something your team has done on more than one occasion."
"I've never really thought about it like that," Jackson replied honestly.
"I rarely do myself, to be honest," Harry responded before turning back to Elizabeth. "So how did my name get thrown in the pot for the Atlantis Team Lead?"
"Aside from the fact that you lead the Antarctic Treaty Negotiations?" Elizabeth asked him. When Harry nodded, she further explained. "I personally recommended you to President Hayes. With your work in both the UN and the ICW in various operations, I felt that you were both the best qualified and the most reasonable choice for all parties involved."
"Thank you, Elizabeth," Harry said gratefully. "So what's next for you then? Staying in Colorado?"
Elizabeth Weir shook her head. "No, I'll be the Lead Civilian Supervisor- I'll be the head supervisor of all civilian operations and your overall second in command, while Colonel Marshall Sumner will be Commanding Officer of the combined military contingent, answerable to you."
"I see... Then who's taking over Colorado?" Harry inquired.
Elizabeth glanced at Dr. Jackson who instantly caught the hidden meaning. "It hasn't been formally announced yet, but Jack O'Neill will be promoted to General and given command of the SGC."
Harry turned to Jackson at this point. "Any chance he'd be willing to part with either yourself or Colonel Carter? We could really use the foremost experts on the Ancients and the Stargate, your knowledge would be invaluable."
Jackson actually chuckled at that idea. "Doubtful. Besides, as much as I desperately want to go to the Lost City of the Ancients, I think I'll be more useful here and while I can't speak for Sam, I think she'd feel the same way."
Harry nodded with a sigh. "It was a long shot anyway. Who do you got so far on your short list Elizabeth?"
"Colonel Sumner, for the most part, is vetting the military side of the expedition, subject to your final approval, of course," Elizabeth replied handing him a few folders. "So far, on the civilian side of things, I've got Doctors Carson Beckett, Peter Grodin, Radek Zalenka and Rodney McKay."
"I've heard of McKay, what about the others?"
"Dr. Grodin and Dr. Zalenka are recent acquisitions from the UK and the Czech Republic and are at the top of their fields," Elizabeth commented. "Dr. Beckett, however, has been working out of Area 51 since the Antarctic Ruins were discovered and will be joining us in Antarctica when the facility is up and running. It was he that discovered the ATA Gene."
Looking at through the files briefly Harry then commented on them. "An astrophysicist, a medical doctor who specializes in genetics, an engineer and a scientist who specializes in theoretical technologies... Quite the group you've assembled so far. Any recommendations for other fields of expertise? We may have to become self-sufficient if we end up trapped on Atlantis."
Elizabeth nodded. "I have a few already recruited for our agricultural department, but there are two I have in mind to head up the department- Dr. Katie Brown who's been working out at Area 51 for the past year and a British professor named Neville Longbottom."
Harry snorted. "You won't get Neville out of Scotland."
Dr. Jackson gave Harry an inquiring look. "You know him?"
"Went to school with him," Harry replied. "Not only did he just land his dream job teaching at our Alma Mater, but he just recently found out his wife was pregnant with their first child. Speaking of which, Elizabeth, my friend Hermione has uncovered some texts in her research which I think would be invaluable to the program. I'd like to get, at the very least, hers, Dr. Jackson's and Col. O'Neill's clearances upgraded to facilitate a sharing of information."
