Damon looks at Caroline in wonder as she takes in the various games and rides at the fair.

"We should go get you a snack and then we can walk around and try some of the games."

Caroline nods and they made their way to the line of food tents varying from hotdogs and hamburgers to funnel cake and cotton candy.

"What do you want?" Damon asks as she scans the line for each tent.

Caroline's eyes zero in on the hotdog tent then flash over to the burger and fries in the tent next to it. She was really hungry it was already nearing 6:00pm and the last time she ate was around 7/8 in the morning for breakfast.

"We could get one of each?"

"Then we will be too full to eat at dinner," Caroline says then sighs deciding to head over to the funnel cake tent instead. It wasn't as savory as a hot dog or burger, but it would tide her over till dinner.

"One funnel cake with powdered sugar, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce please," Caroline said to the man preparing the funnel cakes after he asked.

Damon paid, taking the plate and guiding her to a small table nearby where they could sit while they ate. He smiled as the second he set the plate down her hands reached for the cake tearing a piece and dipping it on the dollop of whip cream then dropping it in her mouth humming happily.

"Did Alaric tell you about the fair too?" Caroline asked as she tore off another piece.

"No, I saw a flyer when we passed the flower cart earlier." He told her his finger swiping at the whipped cream and placing it in his mouth then taking a piece of the cake as well.

Caroline nodded blushing, "I left them at the church."

"It's alright. At least you held on to them instead of throwing them away when I gave them to you."

Caroline tensed slightly but turned to look at the nearest game. It was a balloon dart game.

Damon noticing turned to look at the game, "You know there's a trick to that you just have to- "

"Throw the dart high so when it comes down in an arch it pops the balloon." Caroline finished with a smile.

Damon looks at her remembering a similar conversation with her, "Yeah. I've told you before, haven't I?".

"When the fair came back home a couple years ago."

"Right."

"You can go show off and win me something and I can pretend I don't know." She said smiling as she saw the man who just won choose a stuffed bunny and gave it to his daughter.

"I'll win you that unicorn near the top."

Caroline laughed as she saw the white unicorn with the pink glittery horn.

"What if I don't want a unicorn?" she asked taking in all the different animals.

"Well, then I'll get you whatever you want."

Caroline shook her head as she reached for more funnel cake.

"I will you know." Damon said softly as he got her attention, "Whatever you want I will give it to you."

Caroline gulped, "You don't have to keep apologizing. I've already forgiven you."

"I know, but I want to. You deserve to be happy, Caroline."

Caroline's eyes fluttered trying to keep her emotions at bay. "Damon."

"I mean it."

"I know. I'm just saying you don't have to win me anything. I don't care about stuff."

"I know."

"I was happy. I'm happy. I am." She said softly more to herself than him the words sounding weird on her tongue. She knew she should be happy, but she wasn't sure if she was.

Damon bit the inside of his cheek and reached for her hand.

"It's okay if you're not, yet."

Caroline nodded wiping her eyes she wasn't crying but if she started thinking she knew she would start again. Pushing the half-eaten cake away she got up motioning for him to do the same.

"Let's see if you can get me that." She says pointing to one of the brown horse prizes in the dart game.

Damon nods standing, grabbing her hand, and letting her lead him to the booth.

She smiled as Damon won her the horse and they started walking around looking at the other games they could try.

Damon kept looking at Caroline he knew despite how she was trying to hold herself together she was still upset. He reminded himself that if she didn't want to be there, she could have left. She wanted to stay. She was giving him another chance and he had to prove to her that she was making the right choice. He couldn't let her get on the boat to head back home having any doubts about them.

She wanted to be happy. She wanted to go home and go back to how things were. But was she stupid for wanting that? She never thought she would be in a situation like this. One where her husband cheated on her. If it was any other woman asking her for advice on the situation, she would tell them to leave. That they deserved better than a cheating husband who lied to them and if they cheated once what was to stop them from doing it again? But this wasn't any other woman wondering about any relationship. This was her and her relationship with Damon. She loved him and she hoped that he did too. He kept reassuring her that he did, and she believed him, but then she also believed him when he promised he wouldn't hurt her. She pushed those thoughts to the side. Damon was trying to make it up to her and she didn't care if what she was doing wasn't rational. Damon was her husband and although she didn't owe him anything after what he did, she wanted to stay.

Damon and Caroline notice how one game was drawing quite the crowd and they headed over to check it out. It involved a ball a target and piglets. It was similar to a dunk tank however instead of a person falling in a tank a piglet would go down a slide and land on a pillow below. He let out a chuckle as he saw the pig squealing as it went down. It was amusing and noticing the crowd he obviously wasn't the only one who thought so. His eyes narrowed as he saw the man at the booth nodded him over. He pointed at himself and at the man's nod went over taking the three balls the man gave him telling him to try and win. Caroline smiled at him knowing that he could probably hit the target blindfolded and turned until her eyes land on several couples slow dancing she could barely hear the soft jazz music from the sound of the people laughing around her. Damon looked at the target aimed the ball and threw it smiling as he hit the target on the first try hearing the crowd laugh and cheer as another piglet went down the slide.

He turned to look at Caroline a smirk on his face prepared to see roll her eyes at him, but her attention was on Rousseaux's. The restaurant was right across the fair with grand glass windows. He could see her looking at the couples in the ballroom dancing and turned to the man handing him the remaining balls before guiding her out of the crowd.

"We should go dance."

Caroline looked at him with a gleam in her eyes and nodded.

Damon guides Caroline to an empty table taking off his coat and placing it on a chair saving the table for when they come back watching as Caroline places the stuffed horse on her chair. She said she had wanted to give it to Bonnie, sure that the little girl would like to have another member join her tea parties with Uncle Stefan.

"We haven't danced since the Fell's Welcoming Party." She says softly hearing the music change the band starting another song.

Damon, "I'll try not to step on your feet."

A laugh escapes her lips, "I'll believe it when I see it."

"It was an accident."

"You stepped on my toes twice!"

"The first one was on accident the second one was to get you back when you stepped on my foot."

She glared a smile on her face in amusement as he glared back to see who would crack first. Annoyed she stuck out her tongue making a face causing him to snort in laughter.

"Ha! I win."

"Real mature, blondie."

"Pot meet kettle."

"I'll give you that one. Well then." He says extending his arm for her to take. As she took it the couple heard yells coming from the ballroom. Caroline took his arm and the pair went to see what the commotion was. The music had stopped abruptly and in the center of the room was a pink pig staring at the crowd.

"Oh, my" Caroline muttered as she saw a pair of waiters and one of the musicians make a dash to catch the pig. All three failed as the pig maneuvered under their legs and ran fast-paced to an open door leading to the kitchen.

"How?"

Damon nodded towards the man from the fair who was running around trying to find his runaway pig. "It must have escaped."

Caroline nodded flinching as she heard a yell and a crash of glass coming from the kitchen.

"You should go and help."

Damon looks at her eyes wide, "Why?"

Her eyes narrowed as if to say 'seriously' and he raised his arms in defense. "It's a fair question."

"They obviously have no idea what they're doing. Besides don't pretend like you and Stefan don't run around chasing the chickens like a pair of children."

"You have no proof that actually happened."

"Stefan and Kol told me everything."

Damon growled under his breath about his brother and Kol's lack of ability to keep a secret from his wife. "Fine, I'll go catch the pig."

Damon shook his head as he headed towards the kitchen only to be stopped by a group of men barricading the door in an attempt to stop the pig from running out. He rolled his eyes shoving them and stepping into the kitchen closing the door quickly behind him and took a look at the scene in front of him.

The crash he had heard earlier must have been the bottle of wine currently on the floor with the piglet lapping it up. Shaking his head, he went towards the pig carefully wincing as his shoes squelched as he stepped on the wine on the floor causing the pig to make a break for it. He feigned to the left then went right catching a stroke of luck as the pig started stumbling on the wet floor its hooved feet unbalance before it slipped onto its belly leaving an opening for Damon to grab a large cloth napkin and swipe the pig up into his arms.

The pig squeals and Damon laughs as he goes out the kitchen door heading towards the pig's owner several of the other men applauding.

"Here you go." The man takes his pig thanking Damon.

"Excuse me." A black man says interrupting the pair. He is sharply dressed in an all-white suit and white pants.

Damon nods at him as the man turns a look of fear on his.

"Monsieur Gerald, I apologize for the disturbance."

"Don't let it happen again," Gerald says waving his hand dismissing the man then he turns to Damon.

"That was impressive. Marcel Gerald, you have my gratitude for putting that circus act to an end, even though it was quite amusing." The man tells him introducing himself and offering his hand for Damon to shake.

Damon nodded, "It was nothing."

"That was not nothing mister?

"Damon Salvatore and I was just trying to help no thanks necessary."

"Damon," Caroline says grabbing his arm, a wide smile on her face proud of him.

"Ah this is Caroline now I promised her a dance so- "He tells the hoping to end the conversation feeling a bit embarrassed at the attention for doing something like catching a runaway pig.

Marcel smirks, "Of course I shall tell the band to start up again. Have you had dinner I'll be sure to cover your tab on the house?"

Caroline looks at the man in front of them about to thank him, but he quickly leaves to talk to the jazz band on the platform and soon music starts up again.

"Who was that?"

"My best bet is he owns the restaurant. He was thanking me for catching the pig." Damon says as he leads Care to the center of the dance floor watching as another couple followed.

"Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I think with all the excitement of the night something livelier would be better suited. Men." Marcel says speaking into a microphone as the music becomes more upbeat.

"Think you can do this?" Caroline says as she takes a step away from him and raises her arms palms facing him. He smirks and copies her as the music picks up in speed. They flowed on the floor following a series of quick steps and turns. Eyes never swaying from the other. Damon grabs her hand and spins her in one direction then grabs the other to spin her the other way. Caroline sighs as he brings her to his chest where he holds her for a moment swaying slightly before releasing her and watching as she turned to face him. He raised his palm and started to circle her.

"We should do this more often," Caroline says a little out of breath as the song comes to an end and another starts.

"We should." He agrees making sure to stay in step with her.

She hums as she turns to look at the band her eyes in awe as the gentleman from earlier Gerald starts singing.

"He's good," Damon admits as he pulls Caroline to him the song slower than the previous.

"He is." Caroline turns to Damon; a questioning look in her gaze.

"What?"

Caroline bit her tongue as she glanced back to the singer on the stage, "How grateful do you think he is?"

"He offered to pay for our dinner why?"

"Maybe you could talk to him about the farm?"

Damon shook his head as he looked at her and kissed her cheek, "You're always thinking about work aren't you."

Caroline blushed, "No, but well it couldn't hurt having two restaurants to deliver products to."

"I'm only teasing, I could ask, but there's no guarantee I saved a pig it's not like I saved his life or anything."

Caroline nodded that was fine. "Alright."

Caroline and Damon clinked their glasses of champagne smiling as they enjoyed their dinner. Rousseaux's was a surf and turf restaurant and with Mr. Gerald being originally from New Orleans his surf was a mix of several Creole/Cajun meals. They had decided to have calamari as their appetizer and Damon feeling a bit adventurous decided to get the gumbo as his main with Caroline getting the surf and turf which included crab legs and a small sirloin as hers. After a while of Damon eyeing her steak, she rolled her eyes and cut it into pieces pushing the plate towards him.

"This is amazing," Caroline says as she uses her fork to take out the meat from her crab legs while Damon helps himself to the steak.

"It is." Damon agreed sticking another piece of steak in his mouth before picking up his soup spoon and slurping at his gumbo causing Caroline to restrain her giggle. Usually, she would scold him about doing that in public, but she honestly didn't care. Mr. Gerald had made sure to give the couple a private table upstairs away from the crowd. Marcel had also agreed to a meeting with Damon to discuss business in a few days.

Caroline smiled as she looked at Damon already getting into how he was going to pitch his plan to Mr. Gerald.

"You should take Stefan I can tell Marcel has a soft spot for family businesses."

Damon nodded, "Or we can all go. It's been a while since we have all spend time together. While Stefan and I schmooze, you can take Bonbon for a stroll out here. The park is quite lovely we can meet there for lunch."

"Sounds like a plan." She reaches for her champagne finishing the liquid in her glass then nods for Damon to refill it for her.

"I'm surprised you're drinking." He says tauntingly.

She rolls her eyes at him, "I drink in moderation besides we haven't shared a drink together in months."

"I meant what I said. I will cut back. It will be hard, but I'll do it for us."

"Okay." She told him and he knew that she didn't believe him.

"Feel free to call me out on it. We always avoid talking about it. You and Stefan stopped pushing me to stop and I know I'm not a child I don't need you two to always scold me for drinking, but if I start to fall. If you are worried about me let me know."

She nodded a genuine smile on her face this time, "Just promise not to push us, push me away."

"I'll never do that again. Ti amo, mi bionda."

"I love you too." Caroline raised her glass and smiled at him "To being there for each other from here on out."

"To being there for you." He acknowledged clinking his glass to hers.

They talked about how their day was going. They forgave each other yet again. They laughed at the fright they had at Klaus's studio and wondering how they would explain that the next time they saw him. He told her about how he wanted to invite Alaric to the country to introduce him to Miss Sommers, her and Stefan's old schoolteacher, thinking they would complement one another quite nicely. They finished the entire bottle of champagne and had ended up sitting next to each other rather than across and he held her hand under the table as they looked into each other's eyes.

The pair finally decided to head out complementing Marcel's chef on the lovely meal and thanking Marcel promising to meet him again later in the week before heading out into the night. Damon pulled out the rose he had swiped off the table and handed it to her. Accepting gratefully the kiss she gave him in return. They held each other up as they went to the train station so they could head back to the boat and make their way back home.

They finally board the train happy and laughing in love and far from the couple that boarded that same train in the afternoon when they rode into the city.

"We'll sail home by moonlight_ _ another honeymoon," Damon told her noticing how the full moon was already above them.

They get back to the boat Damon attaching a sail to the boat letting the wind guide them back as he sat with her in his arms planting kisses on his wife's lips before laying back and gazing at the moon and the stars in the sky. Both a bit drunk off the champagne and one another.

Damon caresses her blonde curls smiling as he notices she has dozed off and kisses her cheek. He rises removing his coat and places it over her shoulders as he feels the cold chill in the air.

He had to grab onto the boat quickly sitting across from her as the winds picked up. The air howling. Thunder crashed loudly behind him and he notices the nimbostratus clouds covering the moon. Rain started pitter-pattering on the wooden boat. The waves splashing around them shaking the boat roughly and he makes sure to grab the rough gray blanket he has stashed in the boat and goes back to Caroline making sure to cover her. He bring down the sails knowing they would be no help and would likely cause them to tip over.

He grabs the ores and starts rowing fighting against the waves towards the shore they had passed the halfway mark a while back. Lightning started flashing repeatedly in the night sky, thunder roaring shortly after. Waves splashing and the wind howling around them. The boat shook as Damon tries to make sure they both make it back home through the storm together.

A/N

So yeah late again but the story is quickly coming to an end only a few more chapters to go. What do you guys think? I feel like I managed to finally clear the air between them officially and finally brought them together.

I really like Marcel and wanted him to save the day whether by helping them with the farm or just making sure they enjoyed themselves. I wanted to add him singing some jazz song since he's an amazing singer, but decided no to go in that direction. Also I hate fish and seafood in general so I would never eat gumbo or crab legs and calamari eww, but my family loves it and since Marcel is from New Orleans and now in a city by the water it just makes sense for them to eat that.

The whole thing with the pig is a part of the film that part is super cute and adorable and I didn't write it exactly like the film but enough to get the point across for Damon to come out as a hero.

I have also never chased a pig before but I have chased chickens before so I assume it isn't that different. I also thought it would be funny for Damon to show up all the City boys lol.

I am planning to post sometime between the next two days but I really need to finish off some school work first so I'll probably end up posting on Tuesday night at the latest. I will also post a new story tied to this one which I will be calling 'Before Sunrise' it will just be a series of short stories about events in the Salvatore brothers and Caroline's life in this universe before the events of this story. Each story will be one chapter long before moving on to another story in the next chapter. I'll make sure to add the web link if you guys want to check it out. And one more thing I will be posting is a new chapter update to my other tvd story 'Hunter' feel free to check it out. It's klaroline but hopefully you'll like the plot enough to stick around.

Okay so let me wrap this up by thanking all of you for reading and a special thanks to daroline and Cheerygirl014 for reviewing. Thank you both so much!

Till next time!
