And here is part 2 of How to Get a Prom Date!
Hiccup and Astrid go to prom together. Would this be the start of a new relationship?
A Magical Night to Remember
In the days leading up to the seniors prom, Hiccup and Astrid became closer than ever. They exchanged phone numbers and Facebook chats and every night, the two would video call for hours, whether it was about schoolworks or personal stuff. Being in the regular section meant an early dismissal time compared to the science sections, and Hiccup would often text Astrid if she'd arrive home and had dinner. For Astrid, she felt giddy on the inside that someone besides her girl friends thinks about her, not that she would admit it out loud.
"So you're telling me that the reason he's called Fishlegs is because when he was a kid, he thought fish can walk?" Astrid was baffled. Her auburn haired friend was telling her a story on how Fishlegs got his nickname.
"Yup. He was with his mom buying at the wet market when he saw some of the fish 'walking' when the fish vendor tried to kill it." Hiccup confirmed, "To be honest, I'm surprised that nickname lasted as long as it did."
"Sometimes I feel bad about your nicknames sound so insulting, like do you get ticked off when everyone calls you Hiccup?"
"Yeah. But that's the reason why only the gang call me that." At the mention of the gang, Astrid pouted a puppy dog pout. "Present company included." Hiccup added.
"Hiccup, I'm gonna go sleep now. Thanks for helping me with the calculus assignment!" Astrid let out a yawn, proving her point.
"Don't thank me Ast. We finished it together, may I remind you."
The blonde teen giggled. "Good night Hiccup!"
"You too Astrid, sweet dreams." Hiccup smiled as he ended the call.
*prom night*
Hiccup pulled in front of the Hofferson residence in a beige 2016 Hyundai Starex that his mom owns. He already picked up the Thorston twins, Fishlegs, and their respective dates. He got off the van, collected his bouquet of sunflowers for Astrid, and rang the doorbell, nervously waiting for someone to answer. Alright Hiccup here goes nothing. A moment later, the door opened, revealing a woman who looked like Astrid except her blonde hair was bleached and her body build was bigger than Astrid's.
"Hi! You must be Hugo." Hiccup nodded. "I'm Anastacia, but please call me Anna. Come in." Anna directed Hiccup to their living room as they waited for Astrid.
"You want some juice, kid?" she offered.
"Just some water, please. Thank you." Hiccup politely responded as Anna disappeared towards the kitchen. When she returned with a glass of water and a ham sandwich, the older blonde sat down beside Hiccup.
"So, are you dating my daughter?" she inquired.
"No ma'am, well not yet." Hiccup backpedaled. "We're just friends that wanted to see how this goes."
Anna smiled at the young man's revelation. "Well, I'm glad you're not 'one of those boys' that Astrid rants about. She keeps telling every time some boy flirts with her, those who would treat her as a trophy."
"Ma'am, I can assure you that I'm not one of them. If we simply are meant to be just friends, then I'll take it like a man." Hiccup answered.
"That's good to hear, but please don't address me formally." Anna chuckled.
"Sorry….uhh…Aunt Anna." Hiccup blushed.
"Now that sounds so much better." Just then, they heard footsteps coming down the staircase. Hiccup glanced towards the stairs and his jaw dropped at the sight of his prom date.
Astrid was wearing a light blue off-shoulder gown with a slit on the right, exposing her slender leg, a pair of silver bracelets on each wrist, and blue 4 inch heels. Her makeup was not too fancy, with a basic mascara and her lips highlighted with pink lipstick; her hair was wavy on the ends, draped on her left shoulder and back. One thing that stood out to Hiccup is the necklace Astrid was wearing – a sapphire amulet that matched her eyes.
"Hey Hiccup." She greeted flirtatiously, snapping the auburn-haired teen out of his reverie.
"Astrid….I…wow, you're so beautiful." Hiccup stuttered. He then collected the bouquet from the couch and gave it to the blonde.
"Thanks," she blushed at the compliment and the flowers, "You look handsome yourself." She glanced at Hiccup, who was wearing a black coat and pants, with a blue long sleeved polo inside, a red tie, and a pair of black dress shoes. They gazed at each other for a moment when Astrid's mom cleared her throat.
"Okay lovebirds, I think you have a prom to catch. You don't wanna get stuck in traffic." Anna interrupted, causing the two teens to blush heavily.
"Shall we go, Ms. Hofferson?" Hiccup offered his hand and Astrid graciously accepted.
"Lead the way, Mr. Haddock." she giggled.
Hiccup opened the front passenger door for Astrid; since she was wearing heels and the stepboard was a bit high, she held onto Hiccup's hand for leverage. Once she was settled inside, Hiccup pulled out of the driveway, en route to the hotel.
"Damn Astrid, is that you?!" Heather commented from the rear cabin.
"Yes it's still me Heather. I just dress up nicely and y'all don't recognize me." Astrid feigned hurt at her best friend's remark. The raven haired girl rolled her eyes in reply.
An hour later, they arrived at the hotel and Hiccup opened the passenger side rear door. He decided to let his friends disembark first and once they were in the hotel lobby, he opened the front passenger door, revealing his date. Letting the valet park the van, Hiccup and Astrid made their entrance to the lobby, where his friends were. Together they all headed for the ballroom.
The ballroom itself was quite extravagant, worthy of a five star hotel. Once everyone had settled in, the program began with the waltz the seniors have been practicing for the past month and a half. Since there were six sections overall in the senior year, the performance had to be split up into three batches; Hiccup and Astrid happened to be in the same batch. Dinner came and went, then the program had a mini-pageant where the crowd was to vote who would be the king and queen of prom. That went uneventfully as well, until the DJ announced the first song of the night.
Hiccup got up and offered his hand to Astrid. "May I have this dance, milady?"
"Of course." she held his hand and allowed him to lead them to the dance floor.
Hiccup placed one hand on Astrid's waist, the other holding her hand. They talked about the usual things to make the atmosphere less awkward, since both of them felt tense in their bodies. The two remained silent for the rest of the song, swaying to the rhythm nonchalantly. It wasn't until the following song when Hiccup decided to confess about his feelings for the blonde girl.
"Astrid." Hiccup whispered.
"Yes Hiccup?" his date replied.
"I know we've only been like this for over a week but I'm having these strange feelings for you. I feel like I wanted you in my life and I couldn't imagine my life without you. So Astrid, would you like to be my girlfriend?" Hiccup confessed. When he noticed Astrid's expressionless face, he immediately though he blew his chance. Oh no, was it too soon? Did I mess it all up? he mentally berated himself.
Astrid's jaw dropped at Hiccup's confession. She's also feeling stronger feelings for the auburn haired man, and was shocked that he'd ask her this soon. But then again, he feels the same way as I do. Who cares if we became close recently?
Returning her eyes to Hiccup's, she smiled at him lovingly. "Hiccup, I don't care if we became close just recently. I've known you for a few years now but it only took a promposal to realize that I have feelings for you. So my answer is yes, I'd love to be your girlfriend."
To her surprise, Hiccup inched closer before his lips met hers, while feeling her arms wrapping around his neck. Surprisingly, his tongue wanted to meet hers and Astrid willingly complied. The couple had a little tongue battle and the blonde nibbled his tongue in defeat, before gasping for air.
"So, are you officially my boyfriend?" Astrid asked, still ecstatic at the make out session her and Hiccup had.
"Yes, yes we are." her new boyfriend flashed his signature grin.
Hiccup and Astrid had a wonderful night, both of them dancing with other girls and guys respectively. They also danced to some of the upbeat party songs that made the atmosphere more lively; it's a senior prom after all. When the DJ announced the last song for the night, the couple decided to dance somebody else; Hiccup went with Ruff while Astrid was asked out by Tuff. It ended in a good note for everyone, some moreso than others.
Midnight had passed and Hiccup and Astrid pulled in front of the latter's driveway, after dropping off the rest of the group in their respective homes. He walked her up to the front door, sighing at having to end the magical night they've had.
"So, I guess this means goodnight." Hiccup sighed.
"I guess it does." It was there that Astrid pressed her lips on Hiccup's. "That's for giving me a wonderful time, babe." Hiccup froze at the last word. She just called me babe! Does that mean we're…..stop it! Don't overthink Hiccup.
"Hiccup?"
"Oh…I..uhh..sorry about that."
"What's the matter? Not used to the kissing or being called my babe?" she asked in a flirty way.
"Not really, but I...I could get used to it. The kissing I mean...and you calling me babe." He rambled and Astrid giggled softly. Gods, he's so cute when he get all worked up.
"Now that we're together, how about we go out sometime, just you and me?" she continued.
Hiccup suddenly became tense. "Are you asking me out Ms. Hofferson?"
"You did ask ME out tonight, Mr. Haddock. Let's call it fair play. I'm not one of those women who should be treated like a princess." Astrid smirked.
"Hmm, I'll concede that." This time, Hiccup pulled the blonde in for a warm kiss, to which Astrid involuntarily kissed him back. Her hands cupping his cheeks while his arms wrapped around her slim waist.
Once they pulled out, he sighed happily. "Good night milady, I love you."
"Night babe, I love you too." Astrid smiled as she watched her new boyfriend depart her home.
It was that night that both Hiccup and Astrid found something special in one another, and that was love. In a span of over a week, the couple went from being complete strangers to potentially sharing a future together.
