As Callie had pointed out, there really weren't many places for her to meet Teddy at lunchtime. They'd considered the diner, but figured alcohol would probably be in order, and so the bar it was.
Arizona had been nervous. Although Teddy had been kind to her after the funeral, she was still unsure as to how her old friend would really react to her once they were alone.
It turns out she needn't have worried. She found her own nerves reducing after her first drink, and after two, Teddy was already transported to the fun-loving teenager that Arizona used to know. It was easier with Teddy, their teenage memories weren't tainted, and so before long the pair of them were in fits of giggles.
"That time…" Teddy struggled to even get out the words "Dr Webber's class…where April Kepner's frog escaped and started hopping around the classroom"
"Oh my god, I'd completely forgotten about that!"
"Considering half that class were cheerleaders, they were really damn slow at jumping on their chairs"
"And as if George O'Malley was the one that came to everyone's rescue"
"Oh George. He used to follow Izzie Stevens round like a puppy"
"He never stood a chance"
"Nope!"
The two women laughed to themselves as they finished off their next drink. When Teddy almost slid off her chair, Arizona suggested getting some bar snacks to soak up the alcohol. A few chicken wings and nachos later, and Teddy was good to continue.
"So I hope you don't mind" Arizona started, having made sure Teddy had another drink in her hand "but I invited Callie to join us in a bit"
"Why would I mind? It's the old gang back together!"
"Thank you" Arizona smiled.
"So before she gets here…do I ever get to know the truth about what went on between you?"
"There's nothing to tell"
"I'm not blind Arizona"
"I know, but…in the circumstances, it's not really my place to say anything"
Teddy scowled, but couldn't hold back the smile for long "You're as infuriating as she is, you know?"
"I'm not sure which of us would find that more offensive"
Sensing that Arizona wasn't comfortable from the way that she started to fidget with the hem of her shirt, Teddy allowed the subject to change.
Ten minutes later, the door to the bar opened. Teddy had her back to it, but by the way Arizona's face lit up, she could be in no doubt as to who had just entered.
"Fancy bumping into you pair of reprobates here" Callie approached them with a grin.
It was Teddy who got to her feet first, pulling the brunette into a hug "Well look what the cat dragged in"
"What, this cat here?" Callie nodded towards Arizona.
"I'll have you know there was no dragging involved" the blonde grinned, standing up and hugging Callie lightly.
"So what can I get you ladies to drink?" the brunette asked.
Teddy pulled a face like she was about to refuse, but one stern look from Callie and she acquiesced "Fine. But this is my last one. Don't give me that look Torres, I'm serious. I'll have a beer"
Making a mental note of the fact that Teddy was the second person to refer to Callie by her maiden name in the last twenty four hours and saving it up as a question for later, Arizona indicated that she too would have a beer.
When she returned and placed the drinks on the table, the three childhood friends clinked glasses and took a long swig. Well, Teddy's may have been more of a sip.
"So…" Callie settled down, taking off her jacket "what did I miss?"
"Well, before you arrived we were just reminiscing about your seventeenth birthday" Teddy informed her.
The brunette shot a questioning look at Arizona, who quickly responded "You know, the beer pong story"
11 years previously
Callie's parents had gone out for the evening and agreed that she could have a small gathering to celebrate her seventeenth birthday on the condition that Aria was there to supervise. The younger Torres had wanted to point out that it was her sister and her friends that were more likely to cause trouble, but felt that would have backfired and so happily accepted their terms.
The party was in full swing, with the number of guests probably not quite consistent with her parents' definition of small, but in fairness to Callie, half of them were technically invited by Aria.
As teenagers danced around the house, with Mark having designated himself responsible for the playlist, Arizona grabbed the brunette's hand and led her up to her bedroom. Closing the door behind them, she turned to Callie with a dimpled smile.
"I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. And…I kinda wanted to give you your present with nobody else around" she said shyly.
Callie smirked and slowly stepped closer to the blonde "My present, huh?"
"Yeah" Arizona reached into her pocket and pulled out a small envelope "like an actual gift I got you"
"Oh" the brunette blushed, taking the envelope.
"Why, what did you think I meant?"
"Nothing" Callie replied, refusing to meet the blonde's gaze as she opened the envelope to reveal a pair of rose shaped earrings, one yellow, one red.
"See, I figured, the rose symbolises so many things, so I got you a yellow rose for friendship…" the blonde stammered.
"…and a red one for love" Callie finished, smiling from ear to ear.
"Yeah"
"Thank you" the brunette put the earrings down and stepped closer to Arizona again, taking hold of her hands and waiting for her to meet her gaze "that's the most thoughtful gift anyone has ever given me"
"Are you sure it's not too corny?"
"If it is, then I'm corny, because I love it. Thank you, honestly"
Her nerves put to rest, Arizona closed the gap between them and let her lips meet Callie's. As they kissed, she could taste the sweetness of the punch that they had mixed earlier. Feeling the brunette's tongue brush against hers, she let go of her hands, bringing one hand up to cup Callie's cheek. The other hand grazed the brunette's hip before sliding its way up between their bodies until she was cupping her breast over the layers of the lacy vest that she was wearing.
Callie groaned, and now that her own hands were free, she ran them down the blonde's back until she was groping her ass. Keeping a firm grip, she walked them backwards until she was pressed up against the wall.
"Arizona" she breathed, tearing her lips away from the blonde's for a second, before reconnecting them with even more vigour than before.
Arizona moaned into the kiss. She could feel the brunette's nipple hardening through the layers of fabric, and she'd never felt anything so erotic in her whole life.
Feeling the encouragement of Callie pressing their lower bodies even tighter together, she moved her hand away, only to slide it back under the brunette's top and bra so that her fingers made contact with Callie's breast for the first time.
"Fuck!" the brunette gasped, as Arizona began to play with her nipple, tugging on it gently.
The blonde pressed her hips against Callie firmly, desperately seeking any bit of contact between their two bodies that she could get.
And it was at that exact moment that Mark burst through the door, and they were vaguely aware of him shouting something about beer pong and teams.
The two girls jumped apart, their eyes darting between Mark's and each other's.
"If anyone asks, I saw nothing" Mark told them both "but we need you downstairs for beer pong, and yes, people will notice if you're missing"
Without waiting for an answer, he left the room, and they looked back at each other, wide eyed.
"We should go" Arizona said softly
"Yeah" Callie agreed, not taking her eyes off the blonde.
Arizona gave her a peck on the lips and then smiled sweetly, heading for the door.
"Wait" the brunette stopped her "let me put these earrings in first"
And so, with her new earrings in her ears, Callie followed Arizona down the stairs to subtly rejoin the group that was gathering for Mark's game of beer pong.
In their absence, someone had set up the table and filled up the necessary red cups. Teams were then assigned, and Callie and Arizona were disappointed to find themselves on opposite sides of the room, although both reflected that it was probably better to create some distance between them in order to keep their hormones in check.
As Teddy stepped up to take the first shot, Eduardo interrupted by stepping up to the side of the table.
"So guys" he started, with a massive grin on his face "just to make this game a bit more interesting, I peed in one of the cups. But you won't know which one until you drink it! And there's no backing out now…"
Present day
"I am so fucking glad that Mark got that cup" Callie laughed, shaking her head "I feel like if it was one of us, we totally wouldn't be looking back at that and laughing"
"Well obviously" Teddy responded "but I mean, you did then marry the guy who peed in a cup"
The brunette blushed and raised her hands "Alright, point taken. But you were the one who brought it up"
As she spoke, Callie's eyes met Arizona's, and both of them immediately knew that the other was thinking the same thing. That their personal memories of that night meant that the fact that Mark had drunk Eduardo's pee was of little consequence to them.
"Do you reckon that's the worst thing he's ever had to drink?" Teddy mused, the way that she was vaguely staring up at the ceiling an indicator of her lack of tolerance for alcohol.
The other two women looked at each other and replied in unison "Nope!"
All three of them laughed, and finished their beers whilst keeping the topic of conversation light.
"So guys" Teddy turned to them both after putting down her empty glass "I should probably go, I'm meant to be skyping with Owen later and I am totally not in the right place to be talking to anyone right now"
They said their goodbyes, and after putting Teddy in a cab, Callie turned to the blonde.
"So I was thinking, maybe we could take a walk on the beach?"
